Monsters, Inc. & University Characters: Good to Evil

Pixar's monsters University completely changed the way we look at the creatures that are lurking under our beds and in our closets while Monsters Inc introduced us to the monster world monsters University gave us a bit more backstory for our favorite characters I have an extra toe not with me of course using the fact that many of the kids who saw the first film would be attending college at the time of the sequel's release but with the chance to see the characters grow and learn where do they stand at the end of their journey are they good guys gone bad or are they bad guys gone good I'm Brad with wicked binge and it's time to get your is my capper jerseys on for the Monsters Inc universe good to evil hello starting out with our purist character we have boo this should come as no surprise she's an innocent kid who was now involved in a world that she doesn't quite understand she just wants to play in color pictures while growing close to Mike and Sulley in the process she does grow as a character more than expected especially considering she has little to no lines and little comprehension as to what's happening she becomes braver for Sulley saving him from the things she's most afraid of and is the inspiration for making a new version for the company laughter is ten times more powerful scream had nothing to do with it there are some online theories that this eventually destroys their society but we won't get into that happy thoughts people the second most good character is Scott Sebastian Squibbles or squishy as he's better known as a sweet kid who wants to do his best in school and be taken seriously he has no problem befriending people he loves his mom without embarrassment unlike most college kids and wants everyone to have fun and be included he insisted on helping Sully relax during the party and he tries to have everyone get along during the games even when Mike and Sully were clearly too competitive I'd be a great friend but we agree he needs a bell okay use miss yeah well we need to get you a bell the bronze medal of good goes to miss Squibbles Scott's mom an adorable and supportive woman it would have been easy to place her above her son on this scale I'm going to ruin your eyes she allows these college students to stay in her home helping to care for them and provide emotional support she adores her son and is there to cheer them on the whole way everything about her is just so pure she does make her son uncomfortable when she starts dating Daan but let her be happy uncomfortable next is Karen graves Mike's elementary school teacher we only see her for a short moment but like the teacher we saw in the first film she's sweet and attentive when it comes to her students she realizes Mike is left out in class and does her best to make sure his spirits aren't dampen any well Michael it looks like it's you and me again moving on to the upbeats salesman Don Carlton mature students optimistic and welcoming he's simply a friendly guy he doesn't put on a fake voice or act like most people in sales and puts his own success and reputation at risk for the betterment of the team a couple of times once when he took the librarians attention off of Sully and another time when he was trying to get Dean hardscrabble to take her focus off the door arrest him pardon he does pursue a relationship with the mother of one of his frat brothers but it wasn't done out of any malicious intention we're brothers who share the same mom slash wife there's also something refreshing about someone older and more experienced still willing to learn from someone quite a bit younger next we have Frank McKay hey there kids if you want to tour with your school most likely you won't know him by this name but you'll recognize him as the employee that gives Mike his hat and gives the youth the aspiration to go to monsters University in the first place I learned everything I know from my school monsters University in the short time we see him he's friendly with the kids and encourages their interest in scaring he also is an awe of Mike being present in the room without his knowledge it makes Mike feel like he has a real shot of being a successful scared wow I didn't even know you were in there a sweet guy who it would have been nice to see more of next we have Terry and Terry twins sharing a body but not sharing the same passions Terry with an I introduces himself as a dance major while his brother Terry with the Y simply states that he is not I'm not we can only guess that it's why Terry that has the most interest in scaring since they're both on the scare games team we rank them together because despite their arguments over what to pursue they realize that they need to be adults and compromise they support the team and do what they can to help even if they doubt they will be successful and it says a lot that they're willing to let the other try something the other doesn't exactly agree with why Terry is more negative than I Terry but they both make a great effort for one another it's all about misdirection the Yeti called the abominable snowman by the locals is next he claims he's a nice guy and we have to agree ok snow cone he saves Mike and Sulley from freezing after being banished and sympathizes with their plight he shows a media concern when Sully goes to the village to try and reach home again and tries to break the ice offering lemon snow cones never go out and a blizzard we aren't sure why hence he tampered with the mail though and will hold judgment on that until all facts are presented next is one of our heroes James P Sullivan or Sully or Kitty in the first film he's the monster of a bleeding heart he cares about boo and only boo for a good portion of the movie putting his career and reputation on the line and even being banished but in monsters University we see more of a selfish side of him he rides his father's name and thinks everything will be handed to him bill Sullivan the scarer he's my dad he treats Mike like garbage and sees himself as superior right off the bat he does eventually recognize Mike's passion and knowledge makes more of an impression than just a family name and does make an effort to get to know the members of lose my Cap'n it's time there he cheats for Mike but does take the fall when the other finds out it was all me I cheated cheating wasn't the right call but at least he and Mike teamed up to get back home and in the process surprised their Dean and everyone else you surprised me he puts his pride aside eventually and grew from this experience which we appreciate we can chalk up a lot of his faults to just being younger and ignorant Sully is a big hero and he certainly come a long way kitty has to go next we have Mike he's first portrayed as vain critical and obsessed those seem to be traits he grew up with that grew worse the older and more reputable he became he doesn't care for Boo at all at first only becoming bitter after they're banished ever since that kid came in you've ignored everything I've said he does come around helping her and Sully flee Randall and waternoose and helping them discover a new source of energy for the city great job Mikey you filled your quota on the first kid of the day seeing him grow up he does try to stay optimistic and friendly training the other members of their house to be better a competition in the scare games it's through his determination that they were even given a chance and it was his wit that helped him escape the human world and move up the ranks starting as male clerks he's stubborn and not willing to compromise at first but he grows to realize that everyone has their strengths Mike I can't not being a Sullivan stop being you it was also touching how he spent all his free time reassembling boozed or sorry tips along pal it was a lot of wood to go to which really shows that mike is a compassionate and caring friend next is brought Pierson the amped up scare games announcer you would think at first glance he would be a typical jock trope that is looking to demean the underdog any chance he gets but in a nice twist he actually doesn't seem to favor one team over the other he has nothing but passion and excitement for the games and he wants everyone else involved to feel the same way he calls out cheaters without any bias and he only wants everyone to have fun he tends to have too much energy most of the time but overall he's a good guy encouraging people it's worth it to die during the games is the only thing that knocks him down to this placement George Sanderson is next on our list mainly known as the monster who can't catch a break he's a victim of being cleansed over and over after being exposed to children's clothes and toys we have to give the guy props though even when he's shaved and publicly humiliated he still comes to work and doesn't take his frustration out on anyone else well except for Charlie but Charlie was directly at fault speaking of Charlie is next on our list oh come on now George I know you can do this why is he right lower than the man who shoved a sock in his mouth George and I are like brothers well Charlie is a career man and it's pretty on the ball so that being said you would think he would figure out that the children stuff wasn't harming his friend in fact what was harming George was Charlie announcing the contamination every time George clearly feared out that the stuff wasn't toxic so why didn't Charlie and there's no way Charlie turned himself in for having a sock in his mouth next we have two characters rank together Needleman and Smitty staff in the first movie their jobs range from cleanup two-door demolition to fanboying I told you call me Sulley they take the job seriously when it comes to the safety of the scares rushing to quickly get rid of doors deemed too hazardous they praise the scare for their work scolding each other when they think they're being too distracting they straighten up the Employee of the Month pictures and they're obviously trying to make a good impression to move up in the ranks now we have bio he's the first monster we actually seen the first film he becomes scared and nervous going into a child's room his only act that could be considered bad is when he doesn't grasp how dangerous the job is the monsters are taught that children are toxic and can kill a monster easily a single touch could kill you so in that sense he should have been far more educated on his work and made more of an effort to do his job safely and sensibly can you tell me what you did wrong next we have cilia Mike's girlfriend in the front face of the company she's sweet and welcoming oh one might think she should be higher in this list but she's also proven to be short-tempered by the end of the movie not that we blame her for being exhausted but screaming at your partner in the middle of the hall at work isn't the best way to go about getting some stuff off your chest next is Flint we can't say much since she's really only the woman in charge of keeping everything running on the scare floor running the training simulations she's a no-nonsense woman who wants everyone to stay on task which can make her seem unapproachable can anyone tell me mr. biles big mistake we don't really see her when they convert to laughter but whether that was because Sully gave her a different job or because she didn't believe in being friendly to kids remains a mystery since we don't know much about her we can't really rank her higher or lower next on the list is art the hippie of the oozma Kappa house he makes a weird introduction excited to live with you and laugh with you and cry with you his energy is all over the place he doesn't seem to understand personal space at all and while he's great support for his friends there is a possibility he's unstable he wants to touch things he's warned our dangerous putting the safety of him and his team at risk and he makes the odd declaration when they are caught on company property that he can't go back to jail what are you doing up there I can't go back to jail what'd he do professor Knight is next you're in my town now and I do not scare easily he may appear condescending at first but considering scaring is deemed a dangerous and needed a profession in their world his demeanor when approaching lessons makes sense he has no time for joking around and while he knows Sully's family name he refuses to play favorites when Sully's not performing well in class one frightening face does not a scare a mate mr. song he rewards hard work and discourages no effort he's not the most motivational speaker but he is a good instructor you are a hope next we have clear wheeler the more critical announcer she has clear favorites in the scare games and is upfront with her lack of faith in the okay frat she's usually bored and has a hard time dealing with her co announcers energy but she does take her tasks seriously and calls out anyone not performing well next is the watcher from the shadows and the observer and plain sight Roz we don't know much about what she does except that she's willing to do various jobs to succeed in her undercover work her attention is focused on Mike and Sully once they make the show of returning from the human world and she keeps that focused through their careers as scarce it's hard to say what she's had to do in her investigations against water news since government work can be shady but she does root for the good guys and she displays sympathy when they have to send boo home I'll give you five minutes next we have Dean hardscrabble the woman in charge of the scare program at monsters University she is the embodiment of intimidation most might expect her to be lower on this list but we have our reasoning she's driven in her work in states that she's only interested in producing the best scare as possible it's my job to make great students great job after all college is a business got that right and she has a reputation to protect she does take delight and seen the okay frat almost lose warning Mike it's only a matter of time before she wins their bet and forces him to leave campus your luck will run out eventually but in our interaction with Sully we see why that is she merely believes that Mike isn't scary and it doesn't matter how much he tries he's the heart and soul of the tease do you think he's scary she does come around by the end giving them support after their impressive display she's frightening but it's far more reasonable than a lot of characters portrayed to be bad guys keep surprising people next we have the lackey of the roar Omega roar house Chet now why is he this low well he contributes nothing but abuse he kisses up to who he considers the best which is likely a large part as to why he's in what is considered to be the best Fred on campus he latches to what he thinks will provide him success and he part takes him bullying Lou's macapa this party only he's just an annoying sidekick that needs to grow up next we have Carrie Williams and her crew of clones seemingly sweet at first glance she her friends are merciless and intimidating those red glowing eyes and sharp teeth along with that blinding pink makes her and her crew a cross between Barbie and some sort of lanky demon not to mention being the ones to lure the oozma Kappa house to the party so they can be humiliated is a low blow next is the head of roar Omega roar Johnny Worthington this guy is a weird beefed up monster version of Bradley upper-crust a third arrogant abusive and controlling this guy is a prime example of what not to be after you lose no one will remember you we don't know his home life to give any sympathy towards him but he was clearly raised to think he was better than everyone else yeah I have a member getting shown up by a beach ball he pressures others to join him and radiates smug our bronze medal of evil we have to give the fungus Randall's aid in the first movie he may not be the most intimidating monster in the room but he built a machine that he knows will harm human children handle set I'm not a lot to fraternize so the victims of a Siva plot he allows Mike to be tortured for information and he has no issue with having the same done to a child terrible and we're glad he got a taste of his own medicine now our silver medal of evil goes to mr. waternoose there is nothing more toxic or deadly than a human child this shouldn't be a shock at all he's a businessman putting his company above the needs of his employees or the human children they interact with he has no issue using boo as an example and banished his Sulley and Mike just to get them out of the way the only morons losing them knowing that Sullivan is his best scare and not caring for the others personal safety because of you I had to banish my top scarer he's caught confessing he'll destroy anything and anyone that stands in his way which leaves us to wonder what else has he done behind closed doors I mean there has to be a track record if Roz has been investigating him for years right I suppose the only defense he has is the fact that the monster world needs energy and someone has to provide it but finally our gold medal of most evil goes to Randall himself a shame since he started up as such a sweet kid too afraid to use his invisibility sorry if I do that scaring class I'll pinch yo he dumps mic to be associated with the cool crowd and actively participates in knocking the okay frat down a few pegs not that there were high in the ranks to begin with he then goes on to be consumed with destroying Sullivan and resorts to tormenting children to get ahead he's glad to be the villain and enjoys being a har to both humans and his fellow monsters his punishment of being beat with a shovel is well-deserved he strives to be the best scare even though he claims to mic it was no longer about the record you still think this is about that stupid stare record it's hard to believe that he's over it entirely since he was the one who built the machine and he was frequently threatened fungus when frustrated on the scare floor he even growls at waternoose when reminded that Sullivan is still better than him he's consumed with petty revenge all because of a competition in college it's the last time I lose to you Sullivan but let us know who you think is the most evil character in the monsters ink universe who's the most good and who do you think is the most evil don't
