oh my god [Music] so sharks have been an apex predator on this planet for 450 million years now the reason being is because they can adapt so well to any environment that they're put in and some species like the bull shark this includes being capable of venturing into freshwater creeks and rivers over the next week i'm gonna be attempting to track down some monster sharks to learn more about them and see where these river monsters are really lurking but before that we're gonna try to get a better understanding of these animals and try catch some juvenile bull sharks in a small creek running through the australian bush so i actually found this place about four years ago and straight away i was amazed by the amount of bull sharks that are living in this creek system and this creek system right here is literally a sanctuary for these sharks because they've got no predators they've got endless amounts of food so what they are doing they are just feeding and getting bigger so we've come down to this creek system today we're actually doubling on my dragon kayak in this creek filled with bull sharks but i say we launched the kayak and hopefully we can get a couple up close to the camera how we going there molly shark infested creek the nose is nearly in the water yeah we just need to get like a couple kilometers up this way a couple of no no i'm getting like 100 meters see that tree right there yeah that's the one that i jumped out of on top of a now i don't think either of us quite realized to the extent of how infested this creek was with juvenile bull sharks from the place where we launched the kayak to about 100 meters up the river we no joke would have seen 15 to 20 bull sharks already some of them even turning around to follow us as we kayaked past so after that we decided to pull up on a log and set some baits for these little bull sharks so this is the first place that we're going to be shark fishing and as you can see the setup that we got going so i've just blown up a balloon i've actually tied it onto the line and what we're using is about 40 pound wire trace about 30 centimeters of it and big 7-0 circle hooks now we're going to put a chunk of eel on cast it out and when we see this balloon going let it run for a couple seconds and then hook up so that's the plan anyway let's see if we can get one of these jungle bull sharks up close for the [Music] camera can't believe what i'm seeing right now look at this shark's just swimming right around me finally they're back look there's two right there it'll be interesting to see what the smell of blood in the water does to these sharks because they can smell blood from ages away there's three of them right there oh if i was standing here i could have grabbed that then so we've been fishing at this log for about half an hour we have seen a lot of bull sharks swimming past it's starting to get a bit overcast so the weather is on our side we're going to head down to a little deep corner that the tide pushes through it's created this really deep pocket and i'm going to get the drone up in the air get the rods out and hopefully this corner will produce a nice bull shark but after fishing for the rest of the day what was strange was we had countless sharks swim up to our baits then turn away at the last minute which led me to believe that what we were missing was some fresh eel and not the month old frozen eel that had been sitting in the sun for days that we were using this eel is actually borderline not okay oh lovely so that following morning i woke up early and attempted to catch a monster eel in a big freshwater dam [Music] there we go hooked up to something here yep this is an eel we're on we are on here oh i cannot lose this one [Music] yes it's a good deal we are on to a good eel here yes if we catch this we have a good chance of catching some big sharks look at that yes [Music] oh this is so good look at that eel look at the patterns on it wow that is crazy you reckon i can just lift them up here yes there we go that right there is a long finned eel that's not only shark bait for this trip that's shark bait for the next couple trips none of this guy will go to waste you don't know how much effort has been put in to try and catch an eel over the past couple days there we go that is an eel we need this if we're gonna go shark fishing oh there is no way that just happened then we got the eel now let's go catch some sharks [Music] you can run hook him hook him yeah you're on you're on rod up run up run up that's a shark right there all right loosen the drag a bit loosen the drag a bit you're getting a run you're getting a run yes banjo yes oh he's going quickly walk around walk around dave's right he's right there he's right there and you're onto a bull shark right now he's gonna eat our feet most likely look he's right there i can get him up bring him around into this shallow area bring him around there what's happening is we got a little uh little bull shark look at that so i just lost mine just before and banjo's rod just took off he's actually quite relaxed yeah he's quite relaxed um bring him bring him up around that way i reckon look at him look at that so he's got this bull shark in the jungle here take a look at that good size of fella so yeah he's pretty nice looking good just bring him right into here bit shallower oh that is awesome there we go hooks out easy still got my bait too and take a look at that right there that is a jungle bull shark that banjo just caught right there we just gotta run in the first five minutes on my rod it literally got off so it's so good that banjo got a run a couple minutes later and we were able to catch this little bull shark right here now the reason why there's so many bull sharks up this river is because the big females will actually drop one to 13 live young at the start of these creek systems and they will venture all the way up here into these safe havens where they don't have any predators and they don't have to worry about food or anything so they can just stay up here get bigger and then travel out to the sea once they reach that big size so the reason why sharks in general have lived for over 400 million years is because they can adapt to so many environments extremely well and believe it or not these bull sharks can actually travel up into fresh water and how they do that is they've adapted their kidneys and special glands in their tails so that they can store salt inside their body because sharks actually need salt in their bodies if they want to survive now this one is probably about 70 centimeters long but these guys can get way bigger the big females can reach well up over three and a half meters long and that would just be crazy to see up here and this is a warm up for what we're going to be trying to catch later on in this video we're going to be going for some big bull sharks but before that tomorrow we're actually going to be heading out to an island one and a half kilometers off shore where we're going to be hopefully swimming with some massive tiger sharks because there's been heaps of sightings around that area but i reckon we get this guy back in the water keep on fishing we've got one wire trace left so let's use it well get this rod back out there and hopefully we can get a couple more jungle bull sharks because these guys are such awesome creatures right let's get this guy back in the water that is so good there's literally a shark swimming down this way at the moment shall we swim out to the balloon at least this is a paper rock loser does it scissors paper rock oh true best out of three scissors paper rock oh next one the next one whoever loses the next one has to swim out to the balloon and we literally just saw a shark swimming down here scissors paper rock this is paper rock thumbs up oh he's full of good ideas miller all right get me out of here cruising i know that there was like a thousand bull sharks swimming around before but i think if you don't really bother them they won't bother you all right so we've been fishing for the last couple of hours and banjo did end up catching that little bull shark it was so cool to finally get one out of this creek system so what i'm going to do now we're going to pack up at the moment it's so hot today but what we're going to do tomorrow is kayak 1.5 k's offshore to an island that's notorious for holding big tiger shots a 12 foot long tiger shark 3 meter tiger shark [Music] oh i'm not oh all right i think we're cats i don't know about molly though what do you reckon i don't know but this is sick this is so cool no better way to explore an island than bare feet we are climbing that cliff we are literally the only people on this island today how cool is it just exploring it it's sick it's actually so cool people used to live here that's crazy what a place this is mental why have we not come here before uh [Music] hey bud this is mental after exploring the whole island on foot i decided to get my snorkeling gear and see if i could find any big tiger sharks swimming off the rocks [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so this island that we're actually on at the moment is known as majimba island or more commonly known to the locals as old woman island now it's about a 1.5 kilometer kayak just off majimbo beach and it's less than five acres in size it's a pretty small island and we've got it to ourselves for this whole day which is so cool and i've just been snorkeling just out there and there are so many sea turtles out there and that's what these big tiger sharks are feeding on that's why they're drawn to this island these tiger sharks are called the garbage bins of the ocean because they literally eat anything so i'm gonna go back out there go a bit deeper this time and hopefully we can find a tiger shark just cruising in the shallow water so what [Music] [Music] so [Music] up so we're just getting a run here we're about to hook up yeah there we go and take a look at that we're on to a shark right now let's go look at it it's way over the other side there we're bringing it in let's go let's go we haven't even been here too long and we've already hooked up to a bull shark here it's running back up that way what do you reckon about the rods um as long as it's not running too hard um i've got to go get the food the food who cares about the food it's coming soon oh my god are you sure it's not very big yeah maybe it is this could be pretty big go out as far as you can just be careful on the rocks oh that's good back up on the surface yeah he's back out there this could be a big shot come on oh my gosh this thing's got some go this thing does have some go this is a big shark right here hopefully over 1.5 hopefully i'll take anything though it's so cool to get him in this little canal right here it proves that you don't have to go out to remote locations you want to get a look he's right i'll get him in i'm guessing that he's definitely over a meter it's just whether he's reached that 1.5 meter mark which i hope he has would be so cool to get one that big up close to the camera hasn't gone or tangled with any of the other three rods either which is perfect yeah yeah look at him alright this is going to be very interesting getting him in oh yeah good shot that right there is a big bull shark right in this little canal right here and this just proves that the sharks in here can get very big now we're going to get the hook out we're going to release him quickly because these sharks are definitely my favorite species and it's so cool that we can come down here and just catch him just off the bank look at that all right let's get the hook out and get this guy back in the water is that a good shot all right all right we're going to get this guy back in the water right now we don't want to stress out these big sharks too much so just swim like this for a minute and then one big push and off he goes there he goes back into the deep right there and that right there is a big river bull shark that is so cool high five marley now let's get you one we got the rest of the day that's so good yes [Music] you
