just about set to go and on the hill Lucas Sims just a three pitch mix in his Arsenal which you know it's not a lot for a starter so always very important for him to have a good feel and command all three sometimes you can make that three look like four if you add or subtract a little bit of velocity on one but you know one thing about it it can be easy to get too predictable out there on the mound so ERS are aware of that mixing those three pitches in all counts is going to be a big key for him in this one Alec Thomas leading things off and takes a strike the 01 just off the Inside Edge that misses two balls in a strike two ball one [Applause] strike righty to the plate slider misses outside and the pitch chopped to the right side whips it to first on the run out on a bang bang play defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most and the first pitch misses for ball one well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there's certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it [Applause] away two down nobody on yeah that's a little high and what makes him even quicker is the fact that he's so F in on the pitch as it's moving through the Hitting Zone he can see how that hitter is lined up what he's trying to do and where that pitch is going to end up which gives him that really quick first step and that's why he makes so many great plays Clips the outside corner two and [Applause] two hard hit right side what do you have on him Chris well that 12 to six curveball explodes out of the hand because he's able to throw the high fast at the top of the strike zone for strike hits commit to that pitch and before they know it they're swinging over the top of that Cur in now for the Reds TJ frel swing and a ground ball out to short what a stop throw to first low throw and he can't take it out the effort from both players involved in this play just really stands out to me I mean you got the diving stop at Short which was outstanding and how can you not love the hustle flying down the line that's just great baseball at an extremely high level Noel V the next to hit for the Reds now snap throw to first and he's back in on a dive sizzling on its way to the Outfield throw holds him at second but the goahead run now in scoring position and still nobody out there's nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield that was RI cut out in front and didn't get under it like he would have liked but definitely put a good swing on first and second no outs Matt mlan the next to hit for the Reds check swing appeal to First no he held [Applause] up that one is absolutely belted and out of lineup for the Cincinnati Reds they're dealing with a scker specialist on the mound which can be a big time challenge when he's right and working mostly from the knees down well I think the approach you take is really try to lay off of those pitches down in the zone and until he gets some called strikes and then forces you to go after that pitch until then make him elevated because guys that throw those sinkers those two seamers really hard for them to be effective up in the zone those are pitches you can hammer and when you get a cookie you don't want to miss it swings and misses strike one good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand looks so good and then by the time he gets in The Hitting Zone hard to get the barrel to it well he missed a hitable off speed pitch right there not sure exactly with the timing sometimes you get a backup breaking ball you're expecting it to make its move at the end it never does and you're tied up goes down swinging for the strike out couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees well that's always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding The Zone guys become defensive and all of a sudden for the that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is and that's what leads to the strikeout now here is Tyler Stevenson just missed one ball no strike that misses the zone two balls no [Applause] [Music] strikes there's a swing and a drive that's back there G that one felt good and they tack one on the board it's four nothing knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this hit bad was very patient and it paid off toy lell is out of committed and you know you're going to have no chance of touching it tell you what sometimes you just have to tip your cap an outstanding hitter in catel Marte and the one0 and that one is lifted in second and ready to hit now for Cincinnati Ellie de Cruz sing you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays first pitch just misses and because of that big Power arm he's able to play a little bit deeper make throws from The Outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that's impressive the pitch swing and a high Fly ball pretty well struck right field that's back there and that one's gone he flexes his power with that swing and they add to the lead it's five [Applause] Z looks like this guy was looking out over the plate but he was ready to turn on the inside fast ball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ball par will Benson the next to hit for the pitchers utilize the top part of the strike zone we see a lot more of that in today's game with guys going up there with hard stuff Keller definitely an Umpire that isn't afraid to call strikes up in that slider didn't move till the very last moment incredibly difficult to pick that up just kind of have to tip your cap on that pitch and the righty deals and that's outside it's a good take the one popped up foul territory behind the plate and he makes the catch ball game and the Reds use two pitchers to combined for the shut out whether you're a season ticket holder or you just come to a couple of games a year to see your team win at home there's just something special about that good job by these guys to get it done for the hometown fans five nothing the final in this one for Chris
