Minnesota State Trooper Ryan Londregan appears in court on murder, manslaughter charges

Hundreds of people spent an emotional morning at the Hennepin County Government Center as Minnesota State trooper Ryan Logan appeared in court on murder and manslaughter charges for the death of Ricky Cobb. The second last summer, supporters wearing T shirts declaring his innocence, prayed and sang at the same time, counter demonstrators challenged and chanted Cobb's name all while major developments happened inside the courtroom. Michelle Beck has been covering the story for us all morning long and has a live update for us. Michelle. Good afternoon, good afternoon to you Alexis. Now I got out of the courtroom about 45 minutes ago but still here in this lobby, I can still see quite a few number of supporters out here. We'll take a look at the video from earlier today. People from both sides of the story have been waiting there in the lobby. About 300 people supporting trooper Ryan Landrigan cheering for him when he walked into the room. Others supporting the second their chance for justice echoing through these halls when the hearing wrapped up. So let's talk about what happened inside that hearing that went on for more than two hours first. The new face in the room. Managing attorney Chris Freeman, who hasn't been the lead on this case. He said he will be at today's hearing only. He also revealed there that there will be a team of at least four new attorneys, former federal prosecutors from step to L LP who will be taking over this case. And as for the outcome here today, the judge denied a motion to dismiss the second degree murder charge after defense cited, the judge doesn't have the legal authority to grant the motion. And Alex says there is no trial date set just yet. The parties will decide when that trial date is when the new prosecutors show up when they appear in court.
