hey guys um do i have this working i don't see anybody in here um oh oh that's not good i don't see anybody in here anyone hey wait ah there he is ten of slug first what's up man nice what's up guys okay cool for some reason it says zero people on the on the thing i can't see it um so hey hello everybody my name is mike thompson i'm a little disheveled uh but i am uh i'm here i got my water today um not too much water i'm gonna chill out because i learned from my last lesson but uh if you're new to the stream uh hey andrea hey uh sit up to sin um yeah if you're new to the stream i'm a artist i sculpt and paint do stuff for people for money so um today i'm gonna be showing you uh we were working last time on a stylized version of iron fist and uh and luke cage so um from the last time that i was here i kind of went from that to this uh here um so i'm going to show you today how i did it and i'm going to keep going on on luke cage and get down with the sculpt or the pose rather for him because they're all in like a relaxed pose alright so behind this uh you can see on my reference thing i have a lot of a lot of reference here for my my guys a lot of reference whole lot of reference um you can never have too much so i wanted the um the new version of iron fist to uh to look a little more along these lines um and uh and also uh like a game of death um bruce lee because i was dope too and in fact he's got his trainers that he wore when he was fighting uh kareem in there so i was like it'd be dope to put the trainers on him so let me get this out of the way uh thank you thank you guys uh so yeah um so i've got this going on right here i did a few renders um i think i started off with it looking like this uh last time cancel uh with it looking like this was as far as i got with you guys last time so i went in and revised the um the anatomy on him cleaned that up uh went in and detailed his shoes and uh i want him to have like a very stylized look right so so that's that uh i put this little flame thing um on his fist that's in the sculpt and um and i want that to be on my print on this and then just started kind of detailing it up so this is a little bit of post in photoshop basically just some color correction um everything else is in the sculpt and you can see that i poly painted him as well uh so that's it all right so tied photoshop uh like i said before i have this one which is the current uh luke cage this isn't even like the most recent one i have one where he has a beard and um and then i have like the old school luke cage also right so let's get these out of the way and get into zbrush all right what's up motion bug nightbot nightbot is a bot i said just just said hello to a bot what's up bot all right so this was the um this is kind of what i took into keyshot and did the render you can see that i have my let's turn off that light [Music] um go to my sub tools and down at the bottom here i have this light right it's just a sphere that i brought into keyshot and designated it as a light to light them up but you can see i probably painted the flame thing and have it going around him right now that's just done with sculptures pro i think i might as he remeshed it but i went and stylized it a little bit so if we turn on uh something so you can see it a little better i'll go to like a skin shade yeah so you can see i just went and hit it with a little hard a little h polish and gave it a little bit of wrappiness and some color and then on his fist uh gave that a little bit of color all right so let's go back to basic material and set this for uh let's just turn off the color actually and you can see this is the scope okay i had to do very little cleanup after i posed him i mean i had some kind of uh crimping and stuff that i had to fix but for the most part it's uh pretty much what we're how about i just show you and stop talking about it and doing a lot of talking all right so cut the color on and let's load my luke cage i think this is the latest [Music] okay well he's huge all right so i have the version of him i didn't paint that yet so i have the version of him with um old school right old school cage let's fill that [Music] color fill all right i don't know why it's not doing but anyway uh this seam here is what i'm trying to get a hold of [Music] color fill solo let's make it black color phil there you go all right cool so yeah i have the old school version of him um let's bring back the reference and go to uh this so this is like the old school one but um i'm gonna do two different poses right so uh today i'm on modern cage which is kind of like the netflix version uh this one this one here all right um so like that right so let's open up that version now how much time need to practice we first do this uh i've been sculpting for like six years so it depends put in your hours hundred thousand hours ten thousand hours if you wanna be lazy ten 100 if you want to be like really really dope so uh i'm uh i'm still working on those those hours and my son is blowing up my phone all right so let's go back to the retro loop i'll turn that off and turn on current loop [Music] and as you can see i have it separated into parts boom boom and the belt and the buckle and the shirt all right cool so now we're going to pose him and what i'm thinking for this pose is i want it hold on let me tell my son i'm busy hold on one second uh let's see streaming blood he's sending me all the nike drops so it's important it's very important when you have a teenage son nike drops are very important and i'm probably missing them right now but it is what it is uh so the pose i'm thinking about for this is um where is it um this one this is dope so i'm gonna do this and i think him standing next to uh to iron fist is gonna look good first let's do this i wanna make a couple of images let's see i'm gonna bring in my um my renders so that i can see what i'm working with also so let's just hide zbrush for a second come over here open this up and let's bring in this one this one and this one all right now i have them and uh and i want to do this pose right here luke okay so let's minimize this a little bit and move it over here all right so if you see me looking over there that's because i'm looking at my second monitor all right uh let's check out some of the chat um [Music] yeah so thanks bobby i got that uh ruler from um a friend of mine um but um i mean i guess you could just sculpt it too and then just size it using um the using the uh z scale what is it scale master you can do it that way too all right hey how's it going hey hello my son has a cool dad hey thanks alex tell him that right now he's a teenager so some days i have a good day some days they're bad days what's up ej marika hello all right cool so let's do the cool part which is um getting into the post i'm gonna leave his actually no i'm not gonna leave his arm separated from uh from him um so i'll tell you what i did at first let's start off by soloing out some of these parts and i want to group them um do a live boolean and then clean up the parts so this is kind of what i do when i'm doing statues for companies uh so i'll turn this on i want his eyes and his pupil and his mouth to all be part of this and let's throw in the hands for good measure all right so i want all of this i want all this to be one thing so i'm going to turn on my boolean i'm going to go down to my uh let me know how the sound sounds on this too i was up all night trying to get the sound to sound good let me know if uh if it if you dig it if the levels are good [Music] let's see hey sir new to zbrush can you suggest tips yeah absolutely stick around that's what i'm that's what i'm here for that's what i'm gonna be doing for the next three hours is tips a ton of tips alright so now i have a live boolean um thanks man uh set up and i will hit make fully and mesh [Music] nice thank you maricat all right that's going to take a minute and then hopefully it should work it's doing the union remesh i have a sip of water i'm gonna pace myself on the water this time i think last time i ran out of here if you were with me it wasn't a good scene so um that didn't do what i wanted okay the eyes are separated from the body let's turn off the color [Music] why are the eyes separate from body let's see do i have them there's nothing hidden those are grouped it did a weird kind of flippy thing that's not good all right i'm gonna go through and try this again let's go up to the eyes those are my pupils frame and here are my eyes here [Music] dynamic is not turned on on these but let's just see what the polygroups look like [Music] teeth okay size so maybe what i'll do is i will because i'm going to be z remeshing all this anyway i'm going to delete the lower [Music] um you know when i post him i might want to move his eyes so this might necessarily not necessarily be a bad thing go back to this union mesh frame it up turn on the body let's just delete the eyes in the mouth for now all right we got we got luke his poly paint got messed up but that's okay and i think that's because i was using layers to paint him [Music] so let's go ahead and go back take a look and see if i have layers turned on here [Music] to bake all maybe i had a morph target on this probably let's see more target nope no more target let's go to his arms they don't have a more target do they have layers they call they don't have layers all right i'm going to try this again without the eyes now [Music] the gauntlet i'm gonna apply the subdivision see if that makes a difference in the hands [Music] i'm going to leave those as they are maybe one more subdivision body's good arms are fine all right so let's try this one more time let's clear out all this stuff and mesh again oh can't and solo turned on alright let's try it again turn off the eyes one more time all right well let's do it i'll answer a question let's see ej what up mike um [Music] you're welcome bobby i love the music good do you ever have artist block what has been your greatest failure that's a hard one i've had so many uh artist block does happen i generally get up and do something else or i'll work on something else i'm very fortunate in that the kind of job i have i'm doing a bunch of different things and so usually if i step away from something long enough and come back to it um i kind of work through it so most of the stuff i work on is for clients so i can't really afford to get too much artist block but if it's my own stuff absolutely all the time greatest failure is probably [Music] i don't know i don't know about that i'm about failure um i've had times where i haven't been super happy with stuff but uh i don't think i've ever given up so stay in school and don't give up that's my advice to you [Music] all right how can i merge two subtools because every time i tried to do it it became wrong um let's see let's see if mine worked and it looks like okay it did i don't know what's happening up here in the face um but is that in the mesh okay that's just the poly paint all right i can live with that so let's do this um this is cool uh i will just reproject the poly paint onto his face but for now i'm going to duplicate this this is how i always do this thing all right i have poly groups they're a little jacked up right now but um let's go in solo out this part oops i want to [Music] group this is one thing the arms look cool the hands um hands look all right let's see all right i'm just gonna i'm gonna try to z remesh this first turn on symmetry and then try to z remesh this uh the way that it that it is maybe for the torso what i'll do is um go through and make a couple of groups so let's do this i know i probably want to bend his torso some so i'll group this i'm using the slice curve and wherever i run that it's going to give me a group all right like that so i think that's cool and turn everything else back on again i also want to have this part here i want to be able to isolate from the bottom so i'm going to slice curve this as well so i have a nice bottom piece when it uh z remeshes it and um let's try it now let's go to geometry remesher i'm going to turn on detect edges keep groups i have my symmetry turned on my polygon count i'm gonna turn it down to one you know what let's start with five i don't want that face to get too crazy so start with five and uh turn the adaptive size down to zero turn the curve string up and uh smooth groups i'll turn that down like halfway and let's try this see what happens i just saw you pull up a gridded pick of your sub tools while hovering oh um i'll show you in a sec it's in on your keyboard um wow that's crazy up there i don't like that everything else is okay face is a little jaggy right here why is that okay let's do this i'm gonna grab this and use my mask lasso w all right all right let's give this another shot and i believe i'll turn the polygon count up to 10 this time and let's do adaptive size of one fancy reach sometimes it takes a few times and i even have to go to legacy first then go to the new algorithm well let's see if this works yeah if you press n on your keyboard it will pull up your uh it will pull up your different subtools that face everything else is okay maybe let's try doing it this same this time and doing a z remesh see what happens now i didn't keep i did wait a minute i do have keep groups on do that key groups to remesh that's not cool um okay all right so let's do this i'm going to try the legacy algorithm and uh and then let's set this to half and then zero mesh and see what happens if you had to recommend one single book for learning anatomy what would be that's easy um [Music] i would recommend [Music] um okay that's a little bit better i would recommend let's go here and scale this to full screen [Music] fit the screen i'd recommend this book this book is the bomb anatomy for sculptors and uh if i were to thumb through it you can see it's dope it's got a lot of stuff this is like the quintessential book for for sculptors it's not cheap it's like 50 or 60 bucks i think but anatomy for sculptors is a fantastic book all right enough big headed mike let's go back to regularly mike um so that's that let's see always thank you hannibal what's up when you stop for a character they give you a color guide for the character and give it a sculpt paint it or just sculpt about poly paint sorry [Music] no i get that stuff on my own so all this reference is just stuff that i've collected um online so we come over here and look at this it's just basically i typed in iron fist luke cage power man and uh and then like bruce lee game of death and picked up these pictures um then i add in my own stuff like i knew i wanted it to kind of be stylized like this black dynamite i did where i have like some hard surface stuff mixed in with the organics and like stretched out his proportions and things like that the chunky fingers are all kind of like disney infinity style so yeah i just collect reference from all over basically all right what's that okay all right cool so back to my dude this is a little better now i use legacy for this so i'm gonna go back to um i'll turn off legacy now i want to see if i can do this again maybe with half turned on z remesh hopefully it keeps my groups let's see what happens [Music] the thing is i want to keep these grooves if not i can i can just make them again but it makes posing a lot easier alright that's better that's better yeah so i don't know why sometimes you got to do legacy first let's try half again [Music] and uh okay so you see the nose kind of got lost there um maybe i can bring it back there's a weird pinching thing going on in his face here too that i don't like yeah that's a mess all right let's undo that and maybe try to uh uh tony leonard what's up dude i'll talk to you in a minute tony leonard is a fellow streamer on here and long time friend oh mine let's go back to legacy i'm going to try this one more time with half the legacy and see what happens z remeshing is fickle like i was working on something for sideshow one time and it was crazy intricate and i did one zero mesh and it was perfect um so sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and sometimes you get better effects [Music] with uh with the legacy um algorithm here so you know whatever i'm gonna say this is probably gonna work for me so let's go back and do a project from the original let's go to the original turn that on here's my original dude um i'm going to set a history point by holding down my alt and clicking on the timeline up here and then go back down to this guy and i'm going to project uh project history okay it's a little better i can see right now his eyes gonna be a problem so let's uh divide this one time yeah the eyes are best [Music] maybe it'll resolve divide it again reject history okay it looks like it's like it's fixing itself i was expecting a whole bunch of uh spikes i see some here oh yeah yeah that's not good let's do this um i'm going to isolate the eyes and let's see what's behind this i'll turn on double so i can see behind the geometry the opposite the opposite side of the geometry and i can see that this is just doing some terrible stuff here that's not good oh man that sucks [Music] yeah this is not this is not good i don't know why i did that step back i just let's try that and project so i need for this head to be attached to the body which it is uh the arms don't necessarily have to be attached so let's do this i'm happy with what i have here that's cool arms don't have to be attached anyway because they're under his shirt so if i turn on just his arms and i turn on his shirt and i turn off solo you can see that i don't even need his shoulders right so let's go to the arms um what i can do is go to the uh let's see everything basically has got something that divides it so his wrist bands divide his fists i can leave this just like it is y'all i'm tripping all right i'm just gonna turn on everything and let's do some uh let's do some posing on him on the belt and turn on the buckle and we have his shoes on and let's get his eyes back in the mix and his mouth okay all right cool so remember my pose is going to be based off of this dude all right so i can make this bigger [Music] shoulders up hunched over so now i'm going to take this into i'll hit all low first although okay so that's a good size like this is perfect for sculpting actually and go back up all high i'll go to my um plugin go to transpose master and t-pose mesh and what that'll do is it's going to go through and grab each one of these sub tools bring it in and group them so that it's all one sub tool and i only thing with this is i think i lose my i still have polygroups all right they're not exactly the way they were but this is okay [Music] so now what i can do is i can start posing [Music] first thing about this is i want him to be bent over some right now i have him kind of angled back so i'm going to separate his upper body from his lower body mask it [Music] okay grab my gizmo and kind of position it where i want it to turn now the thing about doing posing if you're new to uh posing with transpose master it's very important where your gizmo is lined up because wherever this little yellow box is in the center here that's your pivot point um sometimes you want it in the center sometimes you don't uh for this guy let's see what happens if i rotate in the center here right and the great thing about this is it's separated so the upper body is separated from the lower body so i don't have to worry about a whole bunch of deformation going on uh this is actually going to work out better for me i believe this way so if i'm looking at the picture i think he is kind of like this right now and let's move this back a little bit okay all right i unmasked i want to pitch this whole thing back like this just bear with me i know it looks crazy right now okay i'm gonna isolate his legs and let's get some polygroups going on here so you can probably group inside a transpose master the same way you can uh outside so i'm just gonna select the shim and group it okay i also want to isolate the thighs from the uh from his crotch so let's hide that part and i already have a loop here which i want to use so i'm going to go through and try to get it right on that line okay it's close but no cigar oh also i need to make sure i have um make sure that i have my symmetry turned on so let's come here okay don't want to have his blood in here sorry his gluteus rumpus let's get rid of that all right and group these all right oh man almost perfect almost perfect i was about to get all excited um oh come on dude [Music] [Music] close almost got it let's turn this around all right sweet that's and sometimes if i miss some polygons like in between his legs there's a spot here that i want to be separated what i can do is i can just mask this and group oh my gosh i don't know if zbrush is doing the thing where it makes it just a slightly different shade let's try this essentially dude give me this all right so i have those two that's all i really care about i can see that i also got a little more that i don't want so i'm going to uh [Music] i'll glue those now if i go back to my piece here i can kind of isolate this together and group it i can go back over here and just isolate the legs and i can do a auto group because i want each leg kind of separate same deal for his uh his calves auto group and i have two different groups for each of those now they can move independently let's do it for the shoes while we're at it auto group and um let's do it for his arms too come on baby there's his arms so first thing i do before i do the auto group is i want to separate the uh the forearm from the bicep so scoop that good i gotta see i got a ring that goes all the way around that's what i want because i want these to perform properly okay hide the shoulder and bicep and i will auto group these and then i'll get just the bicep by itself and i'll auto grip these all right so if you're asking yourself why is he doing all this this is this little bit of prep is going to allow me to um [Music] to select these things really easily and move them on their own i want everything to have its own group if it is uh gonna move independently all right so that's that let's check chat real quick i don't know much i don't know which is more engaging satisfying eyeballing for creating logic i don't know i don't know both why choose tony yes sir yeah um so crown is on the old school one i got an old school one and a new one tone and i'm gonna do different poses for all those yeah we pose and hannibal i know you hit me up on that the other day uh thinking about thinking of an unwrapped approach when you poly group well not right now but you know what yeah later on yes yeah so then i can kind of go into substance if i want to all right so now let's um i want to have both of basically i want to have everything below his knee selected so i'm just going to select this like this and i'm going to mask it like that and invert the mask and i'll do a little bit of a blur all right by tapping on it [Music] all right and now i want to kind of bend these legs back i want to kind of get it on the joint make sure you have it on the joint and angled with the leg and then i can just rotate this back kind of like he's got a pretty good bend going on all right i'll do it a little bit like this and i'm going to move this forward because i really want that knee to be straight i don't care if the calf goes into the thigh because i can always straight fix it fix that later all right so now he looks real weird he's doing the limbo right now um but that's okay we'll get it back all right so now i can let's let's actually do this i want to grab his feet [Music] so i'm going to hide these pieces and mask just the feet invert the mask come over here move this down to his ankle and kind of square it up okay and then rotate it up like tony what are you doing here you never come to my streams man i'm gonna like stream 1 billion tony must be bored you guys he stays busy all right thanks for coming brother we go way back so i can say these things all right that's that and um okay so now i've unmasked everything i'm going to center the gizmo center the gizmo and kind of straighten it out and i want to rotate him back a little bit right like this okay now i want to hide oops i want to hide the thighs mask below the legs and then mask the thighs as well like that okay and now what i can do is i can start to rotate from his waist back up now this is going to be a little tricky let's see what happens here because i'm going to get some deformation basically let's try it anyway usually if it happens in his butt it's cool but you see what's happening is i'm getting it in the thighs as well so let's do a soften that mask a little bit all right i'm just gonna soften it and then i'm going to try again okay more than likely this is one of the parts that's gonna have to be re-sculpted when i do it [Music] okay so i tend to make little moves i don't make like giant moves when i'm sculpting because you'll get like serious deformation if you don't um think about how you're gonna do these these uh transformations alright so now he's like this [Music] let's get that head up okay so what i can do now is start to make some polygroups the neck is probably going to get a little wonky but that's okay like blend that a little bit soften the mask and group this is why you really want to have um low a low version of the of the mesh right the topology and also like going in if you're like my friend tony gore you go in and re to apologize everything and then it's like amazing because it all deforms exactly where you want it to be shout out to tony gore all right so this works for me i'm going to mask the head i have his teeth in his eyes also masked i'm going to blur this mask a little bit and get my gizmo kind of in where i want it probably like here center it this is one of those things where again really important where your gizmo is and then i can rotate the head up a little bit move it okay so i don't want to do all of the bending in his neck i kind of want to bend his head as well so i'm going to leave that there um and uh i'm going to mask let's do this i'm going to mask everything under his chin also blur that a little bit his you'll notice his skull starts to get a little compressed here but that's we'll fix it make sure that you when you unhide everything you have the mask where you want it all right so now the only thing that's exposed is his head let's just make sure i've definitely had parts on mask that i didn't want and then i get something exactly how i want it and uh and his fingers are off in space or his toes or whatever all right so let's take that and bend it from there like this and the good thing about this it's stylized so if it's a little bit like somebody's head really wouldn't do all that but you can on this guy i'm gonna bring his shoulders down too a little bit because i think that they're super far back but uh for now that's a good start um maybe a little less go back in and this is all basically to me this is kind of like a rubik's cube so i'll get aside and then realize that everything else is kind of out of order so i just go back and tweak the pose until i have it where i want it eventually it'll get there spin that straight back like this i do want to have like an extreme kind of a stance on him so i'll move that it's okay that my uh that my my geometry is starting to penetrate itself a little bit it's all right okay now let's go back up to the uh let's go back up to the torso so i'm gonna grab his torso and a shirt isolate those and i wanna i'm gonna mask this part all right then i'm gonna come back to his legs and i'm gonna mask those as well all right so now just the upper body right under his pecs is unmasked oh i almost forgot to tell you guys so i finally got my own personal private uh multi-stream worked out let me do a little promo for you cause i'm gonna start streaming weekly on fridays so tomorrow i'll put this up here and uh shrink it down i'm gonna leave this on [Music] so yeah if you want to join me i'll be on youtube twitch and facebook live and uh all my information above you can follow me and uh and see me on those yeah tomorrow night i'm starting for real for real this time you guys it'll basically basically be kind of more of this but i will be able to stay on probably um i don't know maybe a little longer or take more questions i don't know it's like this 2.0 so what i think i want to do is blur this because that was not what i wanted just try it again that's better and you see when you blur the mask you get a nicer like kind of a transition okay so getting there this is kind of like a hulk kind of a pose but you see what's happening is i'm starting to get penetration of his chest through the shirt [Music] an easy way to fix this is i'm just going to isolate the chest because we're not going to see it and i'm just going to mask everything else make sure symmetry is turned on grab my move brush and i'm just going to kind of push that back in to the geometry a little bit like that all right so another good thing about having all of this stuff separate is those parts are very easy to fix i'll probably delete all of that geometry later on because there's really no need to have his chest under the shirt you're not going to see it when you print it all right so that's cool um i want to now kind of bend his arms a little bit so let's go and check the chat in a while let's see um [Music] yeah watching another artist's work is therapeutic [Music] see thanks tone [Music] let's see can you share anatomy reference board yes all right do this um if you're not already mike mike t artworks is everything for me right so let's just put that in the chat at my t art works or mike tart works if you like um so go to my pixel not my pixel logic go to my uh pinterest page look for at mike t artworks i have boards for everything anatomy um posing hard surface all that stuff cloth everything's on there so follow me on that and um and you have all the stuff that i have all right let's see um [Music] the time zone will be streaming on fridays all right so i'm on the east coast i'm uh like not far from dc new york so um i'll be streaming probably let's pick a time you gonna hold me to it let's do it now um let's say friday night at um wait a minute classes on friday night um friday night at 10 o'clock how's that 10 o'clock friday nights subject to change but for now friday nights 10 o'clock thanks for holding me to it by the way all right uh is that because topology of the shirt is less dense than the chest so it moves faster nah nah um this shirt is what's going to be visible i'm definitely going to go in there and kind of resculpt his pecs and stuff so uh the the chest underneath of it doesn't matter because you can't see it i mean maybe i'll have some bullet holes in there so maybe i'll keep some of it i don't know uh all right cool so that's that what was i gonna do oh his arms let's get back on his arms all right just hide the forearms just mask that smash that invert the mask and uh [Music] line this up i want it to be in the center of his arm and i wanted to kind of follow the path of his arm okay so that looks pretty good make sure it's lined up with the elbow it's probably a little more like that and now we can't bend it okay definitely going to get some penetration between the forearm and the bicep but i'll clean it up later it's okay [Music] all right so that is not bad maybe a little less from now i want this to be the one thing about the reference image is it's super symmetrical i don't like symmetry at all i hate symmetry i said it i didn't call because i'm not talking to you bixby um my phone has this thing where it over overhears me now and speaks to me but uh anyway yeah so that's why like for iron fist it's out of symmetry i i like these poses a lot more i do notice with him there's a lot of things that are just kind of i don't know kind of like museum poses this one's kind of dope i might revisit that on the classic actually definitely going to do this one for the classic so but i'm going to tweak this after i get it kind of where i want so this is okay shoulders back head back i definitely want to tilt his upper body forward more so i have this friend brad who i have to like by contract mentioned in every one of my streams um brad is an animator and uh and a teacher and a really cool dude and brad is the guy who taught me everything i know about posing and pushing the pose um so i want it to be very exaggerated because it's boring otherwise so let's kind of keep that in mind and really push this pose okay um [Music] so once i start to get it uh i think i want to push his feet apart yeah yeah his feet are way too close today all right so let's uh let's now we'll go and grab you all right grab the legs would you just grab the legs symmetry is off turn some tree back on okay invert the mask and let's line up the uh the gizmo with the legs [Music] so i have friends that that rig and then they pose i notice that unless you spend a ton of time uh doing your um weight painting you get deformation that is just it's just easier for me just to do it in zbrush um so i just do an empty brush i do everything as you brush i'm not really a 3d guy anybody has heard me talk before i'm not definitely i'm not a 3d dude oops let's not do that come on dude um so that being said i i generally do my hard surface stuff using z modeler um you know i'll do uh my posing with transpose master i'll do my you know if i do have to remesh i usually use z remesh to get it good enough um and then i might take it to another application but that's just me okay so that's pretty good i think i want those legs to be up higher like this okay and you can see i'm getting some serious definition now in the back so maybe what i do at this point is i can uh i can smooth a little bit [Music] and that's going to fix some of these areas and i'm going to have to resculpt this anyway so it's all good and then just invert the mask i don't want to mess up my pockets too much the crotch can be re-sculpted all right so i'll fix that i don't want to mess up the pockets on the back either but that's cool so now if i go and i do a little bit of a blur to the mask and then blur it the other way maybe let's do this let's bur blur the mask this way yeah and that way i don't deform the uh undeform its waist now i flip the mask back the way i had it before and now i can go all in on bending it up i also want to uh [Music] i want that fold to be more towards the front than uh then then stretching out the back so i'm moving the gizmo back you'll notice i'm moving that center pivot back further and then when i bring this up you see that i get that natural kind of a wrinkle that would happen if you were to wear jeans and lift your legs up now because i've blurred the mask so much it's giving me a little bit too much of a wavy kind of a form here so maybe what i'll do is i'll sharpen that mask let's come over here masking and uh sharpen sharpen mask a little bit a little bit like that okay all right now let's try it [Music] okay you see it's it's actually those polygons are going up over his waist but that's okay because he's gonna have wrinkles there anyway and i can smooth that also so i'm just going to invert the mask and uh smooth because i have symmetry on it smoothing both sides all right and that gets rid of that undercut kind of a thing that's happening but i still i want to keep i want to keep a wrinkle here i'll sculpt it back in anyway but i just don't want the deformation to get too crazy all right i tend to do these little fixes as i'm doing the pose because it's less stuff that i have to do when i come out of transpose master all right so that's okay all right um the back got wonky so let's uh soften this up a little bit okay this is all getting sculpted anyway [Music] the thing is if i can not be too destructive at this point then the work i have to do later is much easier that iron fist it was not hard at all because i had most of my uh details intact when i came out as all right so that's cool uh let's now i'm gonna turn off symmetry center the gizmo line it up and rotate him back see this is about a bunch of back and forth right so i want him to be up over his knees a little bit so i'm going to move his calves now [Music] this over here like that [Music] i want these calves to come in some because they're like [Music] like he's riding a horse right now so let's line up the gizmo [Music] and i can tell already here that i have a little bit of a [Music] okay turn the mask back and do a little bit of a blur and let's bring these down [Music] just trying to rotate them and make them feel a little more natural [Music] [Music] okay once i have something that's kind of close to what i want i can grab it around mid-calf make a mask and blur it move my gizmo down to where that's going to be this is very important to make sure that this is lined up right because i'm going to do a rotation here and if the center line isn't right it just goes everywhere and it looks whack let's move this here something like this making sure to look at it from all the different angles okay [Music] and even maybe you could do a little bit of a rotation back i want to keep those s curves where i would keep them because that's going to make the piece feel more dynamic but now what i can do is i can go in and i can line it up and gizmo up on the feet and rotate them because they're independent from the body it's it's really easy let's get those lined up so these will kind of stay in symmetry because i just realized that i didn't um i didn't really finish sculpting the shoes here i did on the other one but not on this one we want this thing to be able to stand up on its own even though i'll probably make some type of a base for it all right so that's closer and now see now is where it gets interesting now i want to take this thing out of symmetry uh first let's do this i want to do a quick save [Music] hello hello hello what's up santa brad who that's uh his last name actually brad who my man brad groping oh there he is his ears were burned uh everybody calls him brad who though i actually need to buy a drawing pad for zbrush how can you choose a pad from pressure level so i have a wacom pad cintiq and i have a little small one but uh you definitely are going to want to get something that's a a good one um some of the cheaper pads are actually they do a really good job now so you can look at other alternatives if you can't afford a walking pad um i would not sculpt with only a mouse in zbrush that's just like uh lots of love from india what's up india here he goes being modest hannibal is my student so i let him get away with certain things i wouldn't let anybody else get away with i would kill any other man just kidding the importance of splunk that's exactly right all right brad brought it up i'm gonna address the elephant in the room uh being that he is a a rigger and sculptor and i am not uh we have a little gentleman's wager going back and forth where he tells me how i cannot get a dynamic pose without using a rig um and so i have become top of my form by doing what we call spite sculpting it's where i do something to prove brad wrong and i've come a long way with that that's i've really improved trying to prove bad wrong actually all right so let's turn this this way how'd you get the edge which one was talking about homie mike liz what's up andy [Music] little known fact my middle name used to be andy changed it because you got to be very confident to have my name i'm not that confident can't hear you cause the music really really um let me know if the music is too loud shouldn't be because i was up until 3 a.m working on making sure the music was not too loud all right i'm gonna have him like this so let's start breaking symmetry this is gonna be fun you guys oh that that sucks i don't like that sorry oh that what the heck um what happened to my music [Music] that was weird okay right after i just said my music was fine proved me wrong all right i'll mask this like that and now go back to [Music] here and i want to rotate if you're just joining me by the way guys um [Music] the piece that you see in the lower corner of the screen there uh is going to be the end result when i finish posing and render this right so if we go over to photoshop real quick and uh turn these on this is what i was working on last time if he joined me and i just kind of posed him and added a fire thing from his fist that i'm going to print as well and let them in keyshot i didn't even add a whole bunch of really interesting materials this is just basically the normal shader uh in key shot i did use um uh for the fire i did use one with an emissive um property so it looks a little more glowy and then i did a little post processing with uh photoshop i just added like a little glow on top so you can see that's photoshop right there all right so that's it go back to zbrush okay so i like where that leg is maybe i'll bend the knee a little more maybe let's do this actually i want to twist this i want to twist this thigh a little bit i'm definitely going to be doing some some re-sculpting because when you make extreme changes like this um it really kind of just bends up the mesh [Music] let's end it that way actually let's do this i want to i'm going to mask it here then i'll blend our blend soften the mask and let's try to center it [Music] brad i think we need to uh we need to get a trademark on that spike sculpt thing [Music] because we're onto something with that let's rotate that that way maybe like that and then bring it up a little bit [Music] we just need enough of a symmetrical break so that it doesn't look boring because who wants a boring statue not me and i love statues maybe this is bent back like way more like this yeah okay so when i line these feet up and i'm gonna do a little something different with his uh his thing i don't want this to look too much like an iron fist though iron fist has got one leg way out so just make sure i'm not doing that okay mask the foot it up on the ankle okay that's cool and um for this other one let's see let's grab this other one i'm just gonna get rid of some of this masking and then blend it like i keep saying blending i'm going to uh blur the mask and then invert and now let's uh center that up on the leg and get this gizmo pointed in the right direction so the one plus about this that i will give uh to the rigging people is that if he had a rigginess i wouldn't have to do any of this masking i'd just be grabbing the rig points and moving it around the [Music] and you can do a whole lot more experimentation so in that kind of uh you know because of that i can see why you would want to rig this instead of doing it this way but again i'm hardheaded and i don't want to do that so take that bread do it my own way okay i'm actually going to soften that and invert it and then bring this down to the knee like repositioning the gizmo is a bit of a pill but i'm used to it so it's whatever so say something [Music] all right so now let's uh counter balance him a little bit from the upper body swing that mass back over center this up [Music] and let's see what it looks like a little bit of a twist to it see breaking symmetry man that makes all the difference oh my gosh so much more interesting when you do that i see all these really amazing models um that people do in the relax pose uh with all the detail and everything but it's like finding that perfect pose is is the thing and this is not i mean obviously this would not be perfect but it's better than it was all right let's turn this this way i don't want to get that contrapposto going on where he has you know his body is is not static is more kind of uh doing s shapes everywhere so um let's let this save that's a good idea i haven't saved in forever let me look at chat see what's looking on the chat wait 32 inch baby yeah yeah that 32 inch cintiq is what i have and we got one two my boy um uh brian got one too um wacom one is dope i uh my daughter has that um and she uses it for college it's very good very good and i have a uh what's it called the 16-inch cintiq pro i think a little portable joint x-men is a good product yeah there's a bunch of really good ones x-pin um huion has some good ones audio's been fine most of the audit's been fine that tiny bit was awful but yeah it wasn't bad that's weird where would you start if you wanted to learn about the fundamentals of sculpting in 2021 yeah so go to pixologics page and go to zbrush classrooms zbrushclassrooms has tons of free information on all of the tools all of the you know the interface everything it's really really great all right so let me mask now his torso a little bit and i'll blur it yeah and now i want to get a little bit more of a twist here so let's see if so how do i have him going now is let's see his body's that way and i'm turning his upper body back this way so let's see [Music] maybe this way okay his shoulders are super squared right now so i don't really want that do something like this [Music] and we'll take everything now [Music] let's see right now it's a bit of back and forth until you find something that's good but uh let's see maybe let's do this oh now you see i didn't have that centered again gizmo's got to be centered up on what you're going to move or else you're going to have a bad day all right okay so don't pay attention to the feet [Music] yet um we'll get them we're gonna get it you guys you hang in there with me 227 all right so looking like we have about another [Music] hour and a half i'm going to run an applause for that math that math skills you guys very good very good with the math uh let's move this out a little bit so now let's see what this looks like over here do [Music] do [Music] [Music] okay [Music] it's starting to get closer now it's normally around this time that i would uh go and get out of um transpose master just make sure that there are no problems because i have definitely had times when um [Music] when i've gone through all of this i've gotten the perfect pose and um and then when i get out of transpose master something is turned off or something was masked or something and i get an error and like half of the sub tools don't move and that is that sucks really bad all right so i want to pop out for a minute and let's see what we have first i'll save it quick save and um [Music] let's see something real quick still still looking a little too straight on for me so let's do this let's see what he looks like at different angles that upper body i'm not i'm not really [Music] not feeling the angle of that upper body hold on one second let's do this real quick [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] wow all right you know what's gonna help this if i take this back leg and maybe swing it back a little bit let's see something [Music] [Music] hmm um okay let's do this too i don't want him on both balls of his feet or on both heels rather so what if [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] all right let's see what this looks like [Music] so this is what i do when i'm when i'm posing is i'll look at it and be like [Music] what about if it was the other way and then that leg was down so i'll probably end up messing with this some more but for now let's get out of here and see if it even kept what i wanted it to keep first of all um i do want to twist his hands inward a little bit let's see [Music] so yes and then same thing for this one [Music] [Music] uh one more thing i know i keep saying this is like this is it i'm like steve jobs over here and another thing all right i want to grab that arm and bring it back a little more than the other one i wanna get that right on my shoulder joint let's pull the peck with it um i wanted to form the pec just yet he's about to let loose on the dude [Music] so remember when i said this is like a rubik's cube so now that i'm looking at this i feel like this leg needs to move a little bit this uh calf rather [Music] i don't mess with that knee i just saw it this way oh also while i'm in here i will take uh two seconds to be tom petty shout out to the same two people that have given me consistent thumbs downs on the past 30 videos that i've done i have two thumbs downs on every video i've ever done and at this point i wear it as like a point of pride that these guys will tune in and and just like give me the thumbs down i'm just going to say the same two people unless people are taking turns but a big shout to those folks taking time out of your day [Music] all right um so i think that's gonna be okay for now i see now that like this part up here is gonna be resculpted it's a whole lot of re-sculpting it's gonna have to be done up here this kind of got a little whack fix that a little bit and um over here whenever there's pinching going on i can just fix it here or i can fix it outside but while it's all kind of one thing it's a little easier to attack it in here and have to hunt and pack for everything all right um doing now is just kind of what i was talking about earlier and pushing that back through his shirt the chest stomach and all that okay that's looking better i think okay um [Music] it's bothering me this is bothering me right here it's the last part i'm serious serious time but this is kind of what this is what it is it's a whole bunch of the wind stuff revising it all right okay all right feels a little less boring than he was before i don't know if this is what i'm gonna keep but let's try to let's try to take it out now for real this time see how do you make your own reference float there uh what you talking about was the the image of uh iron fist that's that's just through obs that's just a picture i have an obs i wonder who that you're making yeah luke cage what tips would we pay attention to when closing model look at dynamic posing um there's a ton of great stuff on pinterest there's books on it stuff like that but um animation's really good man i just went back and watched what was it the latest grinch movie and uh it was beautiful man the colors and the animation and all that stuff was amazing that hence perfect size ah tony tony tony was like yo your head is too big last time i fixed it um that's my friend don't don't i don't want everybody giving me all notes tony and brad are allowed to tell me that my stuff sucks every day um they don't they're nice guys yeah the iron fist is just uh that's just a promo image that i have on obs yeah yeah let's uh let's get this guy out of here i'll fix it i've got some music's too loud music's good people music's perfect people thumbs down and badges on yeah exactly yeah whole lotta hey hey hey hey patty labelle tom petty okay living rent-free in their heads yeah no doubt lg hey mike can you refer me to any good tutorials some wrinkles within the furrows uh on the face i will do one how about this if you haven't already give me a subscribe on my youtube or my twitch um the links are above and um and i'm gonna start streaming tomorrow i figured out my multi-stream finally so um i'm gonna do that tomorrow and you ask me what you want to see and i'll do it real time for you kyle g how about that and anybody else can't live without haters hey uh just remember yeah screenshot sculpted vector image number just remember you're the guy to ask any way to screenshot a sculpt as a vector image no background um i'll show you what i do i'll show you what i do in fact let's do it so in photoshop real quick if i come over here or any of these the photo yeah okay so this one is when i was in uh zbrush i um nazi brush i'm sorry when i took this to keyshot i did what's called a clown pass and this is the clown pass all right and all this does is it makes your background a different color than your guy you can do it in zbrush too by just changing your background color to something like i choose that that what is it the green that they use for green screen and then when i bring it into photoshop i can just click on it with my with my wand just click on it oops make sure you're on the right layer click on it and then you select uh similar alright so now i have just the guy selected so now what i could do is i could take all my stuff and group it and then i can make a layer mask and now what it's going to do is it's going to mask the inside so all you do is you select the mask and you invert it and now i have just the guy loading on his own thing so that's how you do it all right um very easy so yeah it's a disable layer mask and let's get out of photoshop boom let's now get out of the modeler or i'm sorry transpose master and everybody cross your fingers that this thing works because sometimes i have stuff hidden and it screws up everything so let's go over to z plug-in t-pose i want to go t-pose to sub t and let's see if this works come on baby come on baby oh snap it worked all right cool cool all right so here's our dude all right if we turn on a little uh perspective it starts to look a little more interesting right uh it's still super clean there's i mean these joints could be a lot worse honestly so um let's turn off the poly group and i can start fixing stuff now i'm going to start by um i like i like the way his waist looks the upper body so i think i'll i'll move the belt instead so let's just select the belt on its own and uh step down in subdivisions you can see it's super super low i'm going to hide legs actually go to sub tools and hide the legs all right cool so now i have just his upper body and i can go and uh turn off symmetry and start to let's see i'm gonna use the infinite move brush uh that's my new jam because that will it'll move through the mesh to move infinite depth so now what i can do is if i grab the top part of or let's start from the bottom let's grab this piece it's going to grab all the way through instead of only grabbing the parts that are um lined up with the camera which is pretty dope right so now if i turn back on dynamic you can see it's starting to look a little more like what i want [Music] that belt kind of where i want it and uh now move back to my regular move because or uh select my regular move brush because now i want to bring out the top of that belt but i don't want to move the bottom like that and i want to move this part i just want to conform it to the body as best as possible and then i can line up the legs all right so that is okay i'm not worried about the fact that his shirt is penetrating the belt i am kind of worried about the fact that that buckle is off center now because it doesn't line up with his center line on his chest but that's easy enough to fix all right so there's my pants and my loops all right i'll worry about the loops last but let's now switch to the pants step down and start to move them as well turn off symmetry and uh let's get these kind of where they're supposed to be this is why i love to keep the low subdivision levels because it makes life so much easier when you pose even when you're going in and sculpting things um it just makes life a lot easier right so that's the pants now if i step back up to the highest subby level they are looking okay i'm gonna move that belt down um let's center on the belt kind of rotate that's the way i want it to go here and slide that down some like here is fine [Music] do i want to move back uh all right i'll use the move brush because the front is up too far that back a little bit okay kind of pull out these areas that need to be pulled out see this is the fun part for me is now that i have the pose worked out getting everything to work okay so that's cool not really worried about the shirt just yet let's bring this buckle down line that up solve it out turn everything else back on and now i want to move that over and rotate it so it fits on the pants maybe make it a little bit chunkier okay like that all right let's get those um belt loops back and fix those because i know those are all kinds of whack now let's grab these now i want to save how about we save that'll be good i'm going to call this luke cage posed you can see i save a lot of these because if i make any mistakes i can just go back and get into it alright let's see let's see skin wrinkles in the face yeah cool what time uh 10 p.m eastern so i'm on the east coast 10 p.m and anybody that wants to check out my new stream please subscribe above to my youtube uh or my twitch or both and then um and then tune in tomorrow night and i will do this but for me and i'll also be like taking questions and stuff so you know unlike here where i'm not taking questions i don't know it's more the same method it's free what are you gonna do all right so that's that let's line this up and please tell a friend i'm also gonna bring back the mic drops if anybody has been following me for a while you know that on my youtube i have these tips and tricks for artists and uh i did a couple of them and ran out of steam i didn't do any more because i didn't know what to do so what i'm going to do is on my streams uh friday nights at 10 pm eastern what i'll do is i will be taking suggestions for tutorials and the mic drops are very short they're like bite-sized tutorials um that i am gonna put on my youtube and uh and so you know how to do stuff it's gonna be like hey mike how do you do wrinkles on the forehead and skin and i'm making my drop spot boom so that's that uh front ones are lining up so now at this point i'm going to start masking out and moving some of the other ones uh in fact it'd probably be better to move than one at a time so let's kind of get this [Music] gizmo okay let's do this one [Music] [Music] okay auto save sure the youtube link for me is right above if you look above on the screen there where it says uh mike t and has all my social media that's that's the link um but for youtube instead of mike t artworks it is uh mighty art work without like yes model thank you thank you thank you kyle maybe one question but is there a center pivot key to center the move manipulator e on the sub tool so i usually use the little thing that looks like the google maps deal to center it but it kind of just puts it randomly on the sub tool i know that there's a way to get it more in the center without doing the work but i'm not sure i'm sure it's on i'm sure it's on the pixel logic page never took the time to learn it all right that's that one so [Music] um let's turn off this floor let me let these polygroups real quick come on baby do not switch polygroups okay let's do this i'm gonna auto group and then making selections is a lot easier so now i can just grab my gizmo hold down oh sorry hold down alt and click on it and everything else is masked except for the one that i want and it's kind of centered on there this is the way that i i normally do it's much faster smarter [Music] okay and i can see they all kind of shifted around so i know that's going to be in the center so now let's go back over this one and do the same deal move this over oops rotating not stretch all right cool all right that one's all right um these all have to really move especially this one let's move this up rotate a little bit like moving stuff around is one of the few instances where i i just do it with a mouse so let's do that let's go grab this one bring this guy over uh [Music] [Applause] [Music] the thing about this too is you you definitely get better the more you do it like anything else i mean it's kind of a silly statement but it's true um so if your first attempts at doing this are not great just stick with it i remember the first time i tried to uh i tried to pose with the back then it was a transposed line oh my gosh it was a travesty i was not good at it at all but you know the more you do it the better you get i like the gizmo better than the transpose line i know people are still using the transpose line but gizmo is my joint i like it i feel like i have the same number one two three four on this side one two one two three oh i see what i did there all right that explains everything this is not a center loop this other one belongs on the other side so let's get this one here rotate it grab this one and let's move him over here like this now all right so i guess i don't have a center loop that's okay [Music] i was like why are these not lining up to myself i didn't say that loud until just now i set up looks better [Music] okay and then this one [Music] all right [Music] so now at this point what i could do is i could just move them by hand [Music] [Music] okay so that is uh that's the buckles and the things the little you know the things the loops let's get back down here and get these shoes straightened out all right i have the pants selected right now so now what i can do we can start getting into the wrinkles now which is going to be fun i already have a lot of this sculpted in but now i can do some uh some individual wrinkles to make it feel a little more unique [Music] so i like to look at the silhouette of this guy too just to see what's going on so [Music] let's take a look here what we got just gonna do a few screen grabs holding shift s to look at them from different angles maybe let's look this way [Music] [Music] okay all right [Music] [Music] and going in and finessing this part is really what what um you know makes it look finished [Music] i remember thinking to myself when i first looked at the iron fist um at a transpose master that i was like oh man i barely have to do anything and uh the more i looked at it the more they were like little subtle things that once they were done it looks so much better [Music] all right [Music] give it all these penetrating edges here where the mesh folded over onto itself [Music] that knee is looking crazy so let's soften that out i can resculpt it easily turn off color too because i'm having a hard time seeing uh seeing everything [Music] all right if i isolate this and solo it you can see what i was talking about with the uh with the mesh penetration so it just kind of folded up into itself here where i did the bend so what i'm going to do is just soften this out but i don't want it to form around it like i like the fact that those two edges are are pinched up against each other because that's what would happen if your leg actually was bent to the knee i just don't want to be i don't want to have any gaps in there basically [Music] how am i doing a lot of times all right i got one more hour you guys [Music] i'm just using the pinch tool to kind of flatten [Music] where that thigh meets the cap on the inside and the other thing i can do is let's see i can mask if i grab the gizmo hold down alt and drag i can mask parts of this right so like now i have just his calf mast i don't have the i don't have the thigh [Music] or i have the the have the thigh mast and not the calves and i can flip the mask inside out and i can do a little bit of smoothing here like this okay this stuff isn't totally you know you don't have to do this but i do notice that by going in and you know given the extra time here the model just looks way cleaner at the end and what i'm going for here is a very stylized like i don't know like almost like me knocking off shane olsen you know like this is my take on shane's stuff shane is like dope and disney infinity figures are really really cool so i wanted to i wanted to do something that felt like i'm paying homage to him basically shane's also on here by the way if you're new to the channel you can uh you can watch his videos he does a lot of cool guys and if you don't know better ask somebody all right so i can see that this knee kind of got twisted a little bit don't get it twisted don't get it twisted fix that uh let's bring this forward [Music] so i do all this at a low sub d level and then i come up and i start making the uh you know the revisions it's gonna it's gonna make my life a little easier so now if i step up that knee is still gonna be penetrating where the back of the back of the knee is gonna be penetrating back there um so you get pinching uh now i just need to go through and take a look and see how bad it is all right so it's it's pretty bad here let's go in and smooth this a little bit not too much also i can take this piece here and kind of move it out okay so now see fixing this means that when i go in and sculpt the wrinkles it's not going to do any weird topology things where it stretches all over the place so now i'll step up an even higher subby level and then i'll smooth again this is how i do it like i'll start low make a change and fix it and then step up until i have what i want it's a lot easier and starting at the top subdivision level which could have you know millions of polygons and trying to work your way down okay i see that the back of his leg got a little twisted and uh we don't want that [Music] so so all i'm doing is i'm just quickly rotating around this guy looking at it from different angles seeing what parts need to be addressed um so that it it actually looks like a leg under there with the muscles and everything and it doesn't just look like you know just a stretched mess basically [Music] i always keep reference near me right like physical reference too so i have like this dude and i have a much larger anatomy for this guy and this is the head so you see how big he is but having a crochet models around me makes it uh makes it easier for me to tell how my anatomy is going i can constantly check it in addition to looking at you know pictures um having an actual 3d thing that you can look on all the sides makes it like even much that much easier all right i don't like what's happening with this butt here [Music] all right i'm gonna get to the chat in a second you guys i just wanna figure this out real quick sometimes if i stop i lose where i am i'm old when i was younger i could stop and answer chats left and right these days not so much all right oh uh also you know i don't get paid for this but um if anybody is interested in concept art i'm teaching at uh cg spectrum it's an online school and uh i teach both 2d and 3d concept art um if you like my style of uh kind of breaking things down you can uh holler at them maybe take some glasses if you're new to it there's a lot of professionals in here too you don't need me quite frankly but uh yeah there's a lot of people who are just new to the whole thing and want to either do video game work or work on movies or you know i do movie posters and things of that nature toy packaging blah blah blah so come on bye okay i just did that technique i just showed you where you pulled the gizmo along an edge and you can mask because what i want to do is i want to have that thigh uh back of his thigh just kind of inflate into the calf where it where it meets because that's kind of what would happen anyway and then i can invert it and do the same thing [Music] but i can control it [Music] see how it's kind of tucked here [Music] okay so that is that part 318. let's see let's get to this chat because i missed a whole lot of chatting there you go you know what not mad at this pose it's all right i gotta fix his his you know his lats but you know other than that not too bad all right let's see um what i miss how did you block out the character so watch last week's episode um last week last my last stream rather it's on my youtube uh it's on the pixelogic youtube but um so i was working on iron fist and um when he started he looked way less detailed um but i had a just a relaxed pose let's see if i can open it luke cage base let's look at this one no that's that's too old uh luke cage whip let's look at this one um all right so originally i jumped the gun and had him posed first uh that's not the one hold on so everybody just calm down for a second here this is the only thing about having terrible naming conventions which brad never lets me forget is that my naming conventions are terrible and i have like stuff that doesn't mean anything [Music] i don't know what this means let's see with three okay there you go cool so i had him this is the classic cage and i have him in the uh i started without the clothes obviously right i just kind of had the arms before i deleted them i had uh i had them looking like this and then i did another version which is modern cage which is not in here it's elsewhere but anyway it's the one i'm working on now so that one is is this guy because what i want to do is have two different poses i'm gonna have two different poses for original and current cage and two different poses for original and current uh iron fist danny rand that's a whole lot of talking let's get back to these knees because they look mixed oh okay all right so now let's get into um fixing his upper body because there's parts on here i don't like [Music] so i'm going to [Music] step down on his upper body i'm going to step down on the shirt and i'm actually going to hide the upper body and now let's move some stuff i got symmetry turned on don't do that he's no longer in symmetry there's nothing more comforting than a pair of floating eyeballs and teeth you guys if you know that it's true it's very relaxing to me [Music] all right let's look at these picks because they probably are a little huge [Music] all right so before i do that let's mask let's mask the arms i want to move only there you go i only want to move the lats i don't want to mess with his arms and shoulders and i want those lats to kind of tuck in nice and tight back there [Music] okay i definitely want one of these shoulders to [Music] see what this looks like oh yeah other thing i want definitely want the spine to line up with his with his uh his butt crack there we keep it real here you guys as a butt crack and it's not lining up with the spine which is not good so let's get into the pants and move those as well a little bit because that's not a good look and i think the hip boots come out some [Music] i don't want that crease here so like i said it's easier to step down and smooth and then step back up again to the higher simply level [Music] i can see right here that there's a whole lot of overlap going on right here so let's kind of isolate this solo it turn off the color so i can see what i'm doing yeah look at that actually let's grow it out step up a little bit pinching pinching y'all it's not good let's fix that yeah it's that little bit i don't want a crease there at all i'm going to sculpt that out actually because i want it looks weird outside of your leg doesn't do that so probably my pocket's gonna get a little jacked up but let's first fix this big glaring problem with pinching and then i'll sculpt it out so this is what i was talking about like from far away you didn't even see this i know i didn't see it but you know when you zoom in you see these little problems all right let's see what i miss follow you here thank you it's a great thank you all right your work is getting more stylized yeah so i wanted to do something that was a little out of my comfort range comfort zone q zone um so like i said i'm a big fan of uh i'm a big fan of that disney infinity style and i did this piece with brad a while ago for black dynamite so um so i wanted to do something like that with superhero characters and actually this is kind of like this luke cage iron fist was another collabo with my buddy brad and uh and it's kind of you know taking on its own thing now where i want to do a whole lot more [Music] so this is getting all right cool so the the crease is gone now so now what i can do is i can go in i can see i'm gonna have to redo these wrinkles here compression folds so i just flat them out just re-sculpt them it's a whole lot easier just to re-sculpt all that stuff um i don't want to mess up my pocket because i like the pocket and it's clean y'all so let's leave that alone [Music] and uh now let's see everything i'll grab my clay buildup pass the pocket i don't want to mess it up did i mention i don't want to mess up the pocket because that's awesome [Music] [Music] all right uh so let's see something here let's get some of these [Music] [Music] so i did a video for kind of how i do this stuff um just a little quick thing that they showed at the zbrush summit so if you go to uh go to uber you brush youtube's zbrush live zbrush pixel logic page and look at the little quick tips on the summit um you'll see i'm in there i got a thing that wasn't a shameless plug i'm just doing it it's easier to look at it than it is for me to redo it here or explain it again also with a plug lazy mouse choosing a little inflate okay this is all crazy over here that's gonna be sculpted all right so usually what i do for my uh folds is i don't want to take a chance on messing anything up so what i'll do first let me grab my h polish [Music] i'm going to keep some of these little hard surface details on his muscles so i'm just going to bang those in a little tighter it got moved around [Music] [Music] okay this looks like some color geez all right the uh not to redo that that uh the seam on his pants also so let's step down [Music] size this up a little bit [Music] hit that did the other one get all wrinkled up that one looks okay [Music] so again step down smooth step up a layer subdivision level smooth [Music] and just keep doing it until it's gone it's a good way for me all right so that's gone let's get a few more these wrinkles in here little compression folds [Music] and if i really want to punch it in i will switch between the brush i'm using uh which is basically a variation on the on the uh the standard brush with an alpha and um and the damn standard and then that will allow me to get some nice uh you know some nice definition to these and just go back and forth actually no for this one these um [Music] which means that this this wrinkle up here is no good anymore it has to follow the contour actually let's see something ah man okay glad i'm not doing this on his face all right so when i'm smoothing i'm also smoothing the color and i don't want to do that it makes it harder to see what i'm doing so let's how am i doing um let's turn off this bounce light that i have back here turn that off let's move this down here and switch to i think i'm on yeah i'm on the basic material now let's switch to my like little changed basic material here i just tweaked it alright so now i can see what i'm doing [Music] oh my gosh so much easier so much easier you guys all right i got a divot going on in his leg that i don't want so i'm gonna fill that and just smooth it out and if i notice i'm having too hard of a time smoothing i'll just step down smooth step back up again which is kind of the theme for today's stream stream theme hashtag my [Music] okay all right so like that let's save uh save as loophosed yes yes all right let's see what i miss oh yeah i got to leave maybe no is the center pivot e a center key to center the move let's see the home thing let's see i don't know let's see yeah i i use a little google map thing to center it on the tool so the other one i think centers it on the world space maybe uh what did i miss all right there's an icon gizmo is basically yeah yeah yeah 10 p.m at night uh watch this and yeah cool all right people do it that's true hey mate i met you in argentina in argentina argentina argentina in a walkable hey what's up nice side note argentina if i could say it right has the best beef in the world you guys my hotel hamburger was like probably the best hamburger i've ever had in my life and the steak there is crazy so big shout big shout out to argentine argentinian beef um thanks for stopping in man i'm gonna be streaming tomorrow too so um but on my site so uh give me a subscribe on twitch or youtube above and uh and i'll see you there all right why don't you choose from the top of the y if you wanted to use transpose line type what yeah all right i love that post thank you thanks dope thank you which buttons missed a lot of stuff which buttons duplicate the whole character model um so if i'm doing a screenshot it's just shift s and then you can rotate move it around however you want and then um uh what is it all in to to clear it out or option side effects what's up oh cool you did one of your cd spectrum that's nice man very cool very cool um hey mike long time no see billy lord billy lord is a beast two things i've never seen two things that i've never seen two ready best friend and very hit [Music] oh gosh sorry i i gotta delete that but that one is not good see [Music] that's weird friend of the eye is transparent and bpr and rare i heard it's broken yeah no i did that i did do that um but i'm gonna be taking this in the key shot shortly i gotta do that before i oh my gosh 342. all right so let's get a couple more wrinkles i'm gonna move y'all let's see let's get a couple more wrinkles and then we'll hop over to keyshot i'll do just i'll just show you how i do it um but it's not going to be the final obviously because i got to do a lot more on this on this feather that okay i like that mask bottom part just using the h polish flatten this out a little bit all right so i have a natural seam i'll use my move kind of cinch it up on that line flip it flip it up rub it drop it down oh no uh and then uh grab the happy trails here this is my little wrinkly brush thing here and here that okay actually i want to keep that crease all right so that's fine let's go back to uh his upper body and bring bring that back uh where is it here it is oh nope not that one [Music] what's that's retro the current areas okay so step down on him let's get him covered up get rid of all these parts that are pushing through the mesh that and step them back up again let's grab the arms and fix them i actually i want to bring those down a little bit here like that okay let's bring that up to the highest subbed level grab the shirt step that up let's just do all high actually [Music] okay i can see i have a little bit of the skin coming through [Applause] [Music] okay just making sure everything is tucked [Music] uh let's get back on these 346 all right actually now i want to move these loops around a little bit so what i'm going to do to these probably tomorrow night is start to detail them like right now they're just squares or rectangles rectangles if you want to be a jerk about it i'm going to call them squares um you know they're rectangles right now but what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna detail these uh and basically i'll show you how to do one right now this is a teaser if you come tomorrow night to my stream you get to see me do six more how about that for an incentive to spend your friday night with me as opposed to doing what you would normally do on a friday night all right um okay now the reason that didn't work is because i have dynamic subdivisions on so if i turn them off you can see they're super super low so let's turn them back up again actually let's not because it's dynamically subdivided what i can do now which is pretty cool is i can go in and start using my z modeler and uh and getting kind of interesting with it so let's do this grab the modeler um quickly do a poly group by poly loop and i'll grab the center pieces of all these okay all i'm doing is i'm just grabbing the centers of all of these belt loops like this okay and i'm going to see it's going to get a little wild on some of these because they got moved around real quick good news is it's so low poly that i can just kind of drag these parts back where they're supposed to be without being too much of a hassle all right so this is how i did um iron fists um his belt right so if we look at his belt here this is all using z modeler and same thing with the uh the collar on him when it was low poly i went in and did this detail around the edge of it and that allows me to uh that allows me to bake in the you know the the transition which makes it look like there's just some extra detail there okay the head is all like the mask on the head is all sculpted but everything else is is kind of in there so let's do it real quick the modeler um i think i have everything done here okay cool so now what i can do is i can hide all these pieces these well for real i can hide them one at a time okay there you go all right so i hide those now i can just group these bring back everything for whatever reason it didn't do everything hold on a second all right group those okay now this is where it gets this is where it gets interesting you can be glad you waited the entire time for me to do this one little thing uh i guarantee it alright so now what we can do is i can um crease uh let's do crease real quick freeze edge loop complete i'm just going to do it on one the other ones i'll do later but now i can go to this polygroup on the middle do an extrude by poly poly group um all probably rubble and then i can push this in a little bit like that right just a little bit now if i go and i turn on dynamic now it looks like this which looks more like a loop and less like a block right so what i could do is i could even let's um let's go back to this i'll turn off dynamic because these are all poly grouped what i'm going to do now is i'm going to do the same thing but outwards or the other polygroup so i will go to extrude and i'll drag that out make sure it's a different color so i can see what's going on and drag it like that now if i go to dynamic it's even more kind of extreme and you can see it on the one that's creased better than you can on the ones that aren't uh so anyway that's the loops 352. all right let's quickly jump into this might crash my machine i don't know because i'm streaming but let's jump in a key shot real quick um i'm gonna make a sphere i'll just grab the sphere actually from iron fist let's see do this over here where's my iron fist um much smaller i got to go to my skill master obviously let's copy that because i want to put these two guys together in fact hold up let's see what they look like together because they don't work together then what's the point of this whole damn thing um i'm going to first um let's see let's get the things that are dynamically subdivided divide divided divided and say apply to subdivision go to my loops i'll undo this because i'm not done with those but anyway let's say apply this as well um i think the the um bracelet things oh no they are subdivided okay and uh so now i'm gonna do merge visible and what this should do is make everything ah the belt wasn't done let's do this i'm going to grab the belt now apply that subdivision now start visible boom all right so there's my guy copy him i'm over to [Music] uh iron fist i'm gonna paste him again size is crazy wow where the heck is he is that him ah okay zebra scaling is crazy okay look at this he is like ant-man let's scale him up actually let's just go to uh defamation and unify him okay and then scale him down down down like this like this all right so he is gonna be bigger like he's like this compared to iron fist iron fist is a little dude compared all right so now we can take him we can rotate we're just gonna do this real fast and throw it to um key shot because i want to see what these guys look like fighting back to back basically let's see all right so what time is it 3 55 all right maybe i can't do key shot today i'll do key shot tomorrow on my personal stream if you guys coming back come in back come on back come on back now you're here let's turn this off a little bit get some light on let's move this to a more interesting location let's turn back on our rim light and boost that up a little bit cue let's uh turn on some perspective maybe turn it down i like to do like 85 okay and now let's do a couple of renders all right let's do this one see what it looks like all right so we got that angle uh let's oh you know what let's do this and i'm gonna move him over actually so you see more of iron fist okay so now if i wanted to do a um if i wanted to do a multiple up like sometimes what i do is i do more than one uh render bpr on the page so now i have that i can say um bake and create and now i draw this over here t this is an example of a mic drop i i did this on one of my episodes with thanos alright so now i can take take this and put them together like this and now i can do a uh do another render render like back to back is where these guys are going to look kick ass i think um and now i can say uh layer and bake so now you can see both of them and under my render what i can do is go to my filters and make sure that f3 is turned on that's the sharpen filter which it did um [Music] i don't know why it hit the other one show both okay so there they are so now if i take this the actual size again i can go uh document export okay still doing okay desktop desktop this is going to be the money shot this is for this is for uh this is for the youtube joint here um test test epr and say save let's jump back over to photoshop now it's not going to look as good as these because this is keyshot if you can't nobody's messing with keyshot but uh it's going to look pretty good though so let's say grab this let's solo this frame it and go open my desktop i got a lot of crap here all right desktop test ppr open okay so in fact you know what hold up let's go back to zbrush i'm going to show you guys what i was talking about earlier so if i go back to a half go to my um color sorry um draw draw layer how is it oh here it is all right go to my document go to my back and grab like this kind of a color let's do something like this okay now go to actual and do export [Music] export save it as the same thing save yes go over to that automatically updates it i'll double click this and make this a floating layer right turn it off come over here i will grab a lighter gray like this grab my gradient tool and do something like this okay drag that down come back over here and if i um select this green color and do select similar it will grab all of the areas that uh that are the same and then i can just make a mask and you can see the mask is headed the wrong way so what i'll do is i'll just invert the mask now we have this so come over here this is actually satisfying because i'm finishing with a a renderer which is pretty pretty good for me right and we can solo it out and here's our thing all right here's our guy so anyway let's see what i'm missing um hey mike side effects long time no see what's up yeah yeah it's crazy over here nobody takes mass seriously brother um lord send us up alex awesome thank you render the eyes transfer okay i couldn't do that what the hell what was that we had um thanks billy small performance pa speakers as well yeah sorry about that stuffy pup also best name of the day stumpy pup for the win [Music] uh happy 3d day i didn't know that was a thing is that a thing okay um look okay that's crazy nice i look still okay cool so here is the thing it's four o'clock i hope you guys liked it um if you want to see more of my stuff there's my youtube i'm gonna start streaming tomorrow uh 10 a.m or sorry 10 p.m east coast time so i don't know where you are in the world but if you can join me that would be great just for me to follow give me a follow on instagram uh youtube twitch and i will see you and we can do more of this kind of stuff all right that's it you guys be safe be careful nobody knows when this vaccine is coming so wear a mask please all right slow the testing down please peace
