Mike Mandel - Breathing with the Hand Hypnotic Induction

once again i'll be working with a volunteer one of my students andrea who's a phenomenal hypnotic subject and a really good hypnotist as well the best hypnotists are the best subjects the two go hand in hand so i'm going to use an induction here which is i call breathing with a hand and this one i learned many many years ago from derek bomber at nlp canada and i love this induction it's got milton erickson all over it andrea are you ready to go into a nice hypnotic state okay now normally i would build a considerable yes set and compliance set but we're just going to presume that's all being done in a moment i'm just going to let you rest your hand your wrist on my finger here and then i'm going to ask you to take a deep breath okay you're cool with that all right so let's just have your hand rest there and you can close your eyes now and i want you to take a nice deep breath and exhale in a relaxing way and continue to breathe at the perfect rate for you that's right and as you breathe you can really begin to enjoy at the perfect rate of breathing the trance that is ideal for you and continue to go deeper as you notice all the sensations in this hand and all the changes in feelings that are going on now so what's happening is i've created a catalytic limb and i've done this by automating her breathing to the motion of her hand so i just get her to breathe and after just a few breaths and lifting it each time over a considerable distance suggesting eye closure um taking my finger away it just automates and typically you will get this causing a trance or at least an inroad trance within about half a dozen breaths and this will just continue it'll float on its own now where do i go from here you hypnotists out there who want to know how to use this set this induction up in your practice it's a great thing i can do a great opportunity here because i can now either have her hand rise up to her face to cause her to go into a deeper trance and recall a pleasant memory whatever i can cause her hand to become rigid and firm and locked in the air for whatever purpose or i can simply say that your hand will sink down at the rate that you go deeper so i just utilize this catalytic limb so in this case we're going to utilize the catalyptic limb just to bring her back andrew your hand begins to sink down now as you awaken feeling refreshed comfortable and alert hi nice postural reorientation good trance it just takes you a couple of minutes use it you'll like it
