and empowering because we had some contagious christians who are about sharing the word of god and so you're going to see some activity coming out of the 1500 project the bible is clear it says that once you begin your spiritual journey once you begin and make a decision towards falling following and growing closer to god that is when your greatness begins and so we want you to become a lifelong learner and that's learning the word of god and so it begins by inviting your children inviting your friends i'm doing it now uh as as i do it i'm hoping you pull out your phone and you just type into disciples out of all nations i'm going to pray and then we begin our bible study come on let's have a word of prayer god i continue to pray for those in haiti who now the news is no longer focused on them but many of them are still living under rubble and rocks god i pray for our soldiers who were crippled by bombs in afghanistan some 20 of them lost their lives praying right now for those right now who are in hospitals right here in the dmv i'm praying for covet patience i'm praying god for family members who have lost loved ones i was talking to a friend just today who lost his mother took over just on yesterday i talked to a friend who lost his sister to copenhagen god please send your anointing send your blessing send your healing to those who were in mourning now god take me and move me out of the way so that they may see and hear you as we seek to do your will in your way in jesus name at the church say amen today what we are dealing with is the righteousness by faith righteousness by faith righteousness by faith as you know last week we talked about uh chapter four of the book of romans we're walking through the book of romans and we know that chapters one through eight deal with doctrinal uh understanding that in other words what we believe nine through eleven we know deals with the challenges of integration and jews and gentiles blacks and whites and and then twelve to 16 is the application of the book of romans 12 to 16. for the next few weeks and months we're going to be dealing with the book of romans we're going to teach the book of romans we're going to teach it but today we're going to recap what we talked last week we're going to introduce you to the lesson and the video we have two videos for you today we're going to focus in on the book of romans chapter 4 verse 13-25 please hear this now please hear this if you're part of the 1500 project you would have received by now the powerpoint presentation which means you're better informed to understand what we're teaching so that's why we want you to be a part of the 1500 project all you have to do is write us at biblestudy.orgbiblestudy.org at read temple i'm sorry bible study uh read temple.org bible study at read temple.org bible study at readtemple.org and you will receive the powerpoint presentation in advance so that you're better informed about what is teaching number five we'll deal with the righteousness of faith and then we'll teach you the application of the text we'll teach you the application of the text and we're praying amen that you will have questions at the end so that we all may be informed based on what we have learned to date what did we talk about last week well last week we really shared in chapter 4 how paul was really looking at abraham and sarah we shared how abraham and sarah who becomes the father of the multitudes the exalted father and then of course sarah sarai originally is known as the noble lady why would god choose ones two that are very old well because we know that if there's any bragging it's not because of young vibrant people but he's really suggesting this is god and god all by himself so they were nearly dead when god chooses them hallelujah to become the great patriarchs of three movements they're the patriarch of judaism they're the patriarch of of islam they're the patriarch of christianity so when we look at abraham he is the patriarch of three religious movements as well as as well as several sarah and please understand that i i don't want to differentiate i don't want to maximize sarah and not maxim maximize abraham and not maximize sarah because they were both responsible for making this movement a reality they faithfully move their family from the earl of chaldeans to the land of promise genesis chapter 12 verses one through three god makes a great promise to them they faithfully move the family to follow hallelujah following a great famine in egypt you remember abraham did not do well when it comes to sarah said he was his sister which means that those jews who looked at abraham as someone who followed the law although there was no law for 700 years we do know that abraham did go against the law went against his teaching and sold out his wife they faithfully believed god blessed them with would bless them with children they faithfully believed god would bless them with children and they were barren they were impotent they had nothing that they were in they had nothing and yet god did bless them with children as a matter of fact god only blessed uh uh sarah with chile he also blessed hagar with children and we do know the tension between hagar and sarah we know the tension between ishmael and isaac we know the tension between the jews and the palestinians we do know the tension as a result that started because of abraham's lack of faith abraham's lack of understanding because he did not have to be with hagar if he just simply depended on god abraham believed god and he was credited with righteousness that's genesis chapter 15 verse 6 he was credited in other words god credit him with righteousness please that's important that's a foundational belief in the teaching that we have been trying to share with you that's a foundational belief because we do know there was no law at the time but god credits abraham with with with righteousness why because abraham was what faithful to god please hear that please hear that please hear that because if we miss the foundation of the abrahamic movement the abrahamic covenant it is based slowly solely on faith and not obedience to the law or obedience to work no god changes his name from abram to abraham in 17 because we do know it was at this moment that he has this outward sign the the circumcision of the of the penis and when he circumcised that's an outward sign of the covenant between he and god but we know the promise was made in chapter 12 but the circumcision and the righteousness takes place in chapter 17. so what are the the major learnings or the major teachings that we have the major teachings are one i want you to write this down the righteousness from god righteousness was given to abraham from god we we are given we are we are credited with righteousness only from god god accounts or transfers the righteousness of christ to those who trust in him romans chapter 4 verse 3 through 22 we also know that there's a justification by faith that's number two justification by faith the lord jesus christ paid the price for our justification for our forgiveness for our rightness with god it is through our faith that he is received and his righteousness is experienced and enjoyed romans chapter 3 verse 25 through 30. in other words only one that can make us just the only one that can forgive us the only one that can make us right is god because god is just christ is just and because of our faith in christ and the resurrection and the blood of christ we are then made right justified and then finally righteousness is by faith and that's what i'm going to spend a great deal of time on tonight we did not become righteous because of an inherent goodness no there's nothing that we could do to become right with god because god is holy all by himself so therefore god must impart god must must credit god must make us righteous how do we get there it is by faith alone that we are made right that's what we taught last week this week i had to wrestle with myself because as you deal with these foundational texts these doctrinal texts and i want you to write that down it's the doctrine anytime you hear the word doctrine it says what do you believe what what is it that you stand on what is the hooper stasis what do you stand on what do you believe and that's what paul who's writing this letter to this church in rome who he never visits and he's making sure that they understood what they believed because the church was made primarily of gentiles and then of course they had these judaizers who wanted them to become jewish and before they become christians they met these gnostics who think was mind over matter mine might in other words jesus body doesn't matter because only his his spirit matters but no jesus was all man and all god and so paul had to make sure that number one the jews were not trying to make the gentiles feel inferior so he was giving him them instructions on what they believed how many of us when we were younger did not know what we believed did not know who we are so we were caught up in the whims of everybody whatever they believed we believed am i talking to anybody here today whatever haircut was the popular haircut whatever hairstyle was popular whatever outfit was hopper whatever shoes were popular whatever car was popular well we would go with them often we would find ourselves doing things not because of what we believe but because somebody who had a stronger belief we followed them did we want did we were we born wanting to drink were we born wanting to smoke weed were we born wanting to do cocaine were we born being promiscuous no what do we believe i know for me i didn't have the belief system for me had a wrong relationship with god had a wrong relationship with family didn't understand family because we had no spiritual underpinnings no spiritual grounding mama took us out of church when i was in the fourth grade never to go back to church until i got saved by christ had no spiritual foundation so therefore our family was tore up our family was divided wrong relationship with friends how can you treat a friend in a manner in which you're treating a friend if you call them a friend the bible says a friend is closer to you than a brother or sister so how can we mistreat friends let me talk to the men how can you mistreat a woman she may not be your wife but you should not mistreat her you should not treat her like some type of sexual object you should not mistreat her like some punching bag you're not mistreated with some mind game it's because we had a wrong relationship with god if you have a wrong relationship with god then you can't be righteous with anybody else because you don't understand the righteousness that god is talking about because the foundation the structure the box of moral of the moral boxes were created by god if your moral box is out of line with god then it's going to be out of line with your family it's going to be out of land with your friends it's going to be out of line with your community so i can do what i want when i want how i want whenever i want because i don't have the moral foundation that's established by god who created the world right relationship so as a result of that you have a lack of faith in other words you will not act right until you get right with god you will not act right until you get right with god and when you're not right with god you're going to be acting any way you want the question is do we understand what righteousness is let's watch the video and let me show you what righteousness is what is righteousness we're gonna answer that question dictionaries define righteousness as behavior that is morally justifiable or right such behavior is characterized by accepted standards of morality justice virtue or uprightness the bible standard of human righteousness is god's own perfection in every attribute every attitude every behavior and every word thus god's laws as given in the bible both describe his own character and constitute the plumb line by which he measures human righteousness the greek new testament word for righteousness primarily describes conduct in relation to others especially with regards to the rights of others in business legal matters and beginning with relationship to god it is contrasted with wickedness the conduct of the one who out of gross self-centeredness neither reveres god nor respects man the bible describes the righteous person as just or right holding to god and trusting in him the bad news is that true and perfect righteousness is not possible for man to attain on his own the standard is simply too high the good news is that true righteousness is possible for mankind but only through the cleansing of sin by jesus christ and the indwelling of the holy spirit we have no ability to achieve righteousness in and of ourselves but christians possess the righteousness of christ because god made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of god that is an amazing truth on the cross jesus exchanged our sin for his perfect righteousness so that we can one day stand before god and he will not see our sin but the holy righteousness of the lord jesus this means that we are made righteous in the sight of god that is we are accepted as righteous and treated as righteous by god on account of what the lord jesus has done he was made sin we are made righteousness on the cross jesus was treated as if he were a sinner though he was perfectly holy and pure and we are treated as if we were righteous though we are defiled and depraved on account of what the lord jesus has endured on our behalf we are treated as if we had entirely fulfilled the law of god and had never become exposed to its penalty we have received this precious gift of righteousness from the god of all mercy and grace and that answers the question what is righteousness you never act right until you get right with god and only god imparts or credits or makes you right and we become right through our faith in god in jesus christ and once you have faith in jesus christ who's the author and the finisher of our faith then you can't help but emulate act like perform like and try to be like jesus christ because he is the author and the finisher in other words he teaches us how to get right this is what paul's trying to teach because righteousness is by faith i believe in jesus so i want to be like jesus let's take a look at the scripture in romans chapter 13 verse in romans chapter 4 verse 13 it says it was not through law that abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world but through the righteousness that comes by what faith for if those who live by law are heirs faith has no value and the promise is worthless good god almighty i can stop right there and shout right there uh let me just say that one more time for if those who live by law or live by work were heirs faith has no value and the promise is worthless because there was no law when abraham was alive and it didn't come for 700 years because law brings what wrath guilt shame and where there is no law there is no transgression you got to hear what we're saying 16 therefore the promise comes what by faith so that it may be by what grace that means you didn't earn it you didn't work for you didn't pay for it it was just freely given by god that it may be by grace and maybe what guaranteed to all abraham's offspring that includes me and you because abraham was not a jew until he converts and goes with god so therefore amen he is speaking for both jew and gentile not only to those who are of the law because the jews would consider themselves of the law but to those who are of the faith of abraham so the gentiles would be considered of the faith the jews would be considered of the law he is the father of us all i'ma say it one more time he is the father of us all 17 as it is written i have made you a father of many nations he is our father in the sight of god in whom he believed the god who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were underline that because i got a video for that verse 18 against all hope abraham in hope believed that's when you hear the word hope that's the that is the constant expectation of god abraham in the constant expectation of god believed and so became the father of many nations just as it had been said to him so shall your offspring be that's why we got to be careful about amen who are offspring all and without weakening in his faith he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead he was an old man barren unable impotent he was good as dead since he was about a hundred years old and that sarah's womb infertile was also dead yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of god remember he says i'm going to make your name great i'm going to make your your family so large as far as the stars will say here that's that's it's that's i believe that's genesis chapter 12 verse one through three but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to god in other words he couldn't take credit he had to give the credit to god he had to give the glory to god being fully persuaded that god had power to do what he had promised 22 this is why it was credited to him as righteousness 15 16 that's genesis chapter 15 verse 6 the word was credited to him were written not for him alone but also for us to whom god will credit righteousness for us who believe in him who raised jesus our lord from the dead and he was delivered over to death for our sins and raised to him to life for our justification good god almighty that thing gets me excited so let's teach it we're teaching tonight on righteousness by faith by faith alone not by work not by law so what you see on the right side of your screen is the law and so the jews felt special because god gave them the law there's nothing wrong with that feeling because it's wonderful to have been given something by god but that did not make them superior because god gave them the law because moses is known as the father of faith and they would often look at moses then moses abraham was the father of faith and they would look at abraham as if he was the keeper of the law yet he did not have the law because the law was given 700 years later after abraham was dead and gone so they immediately began to say things and talk about things and would credit themselves wonderful because i come from the lineage of abraham but they would think of themselves superior yet they were not superior because abraham was a good gentile until the jewish conversion with the with with the uh circumcision of the flesh and so here we find that paul says your premise is not a good premise it is not a good theory and why the bible says it was not through the law that abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world but through righteousness that comes by what faith for if those who live by faith are heirs faith has no value and the promise is worthless because law brings wrath and where there is no law there is no transgression if i am going to be obedient to the law and the law is good and it is good but then i must have faith because if i don't have faith then i can go against the law without any sense or out without any without any trespass without any feelings but if i have faith then that means not only do i respect the law but i respect the god who gives the law and then i must have enough faith to know that if i have faith in god the promises of god will follow if i have faith in god then the promises of god will follow faith has no value if god's promises are achieved by works but god is saying i i it doesn't matter how much work it does no matter how much law it is really about how much you value the promise and how much you value your faith that's found in first corinthians chapter 15 verse 10 and 58. abraham and sarah were imputed righteousness they were impo they were they were credited righteous the word improved means to credit in other words they were given righteousness by god based on their faith what does that mean reverend well how would you like it if somebody told you to leave your house to leave your family to leave your traditions to leave everything that you have because i'm going to promise you something to make your name great but wait a minute you're 100 years old you can paid the mortgage off you didn't pay it off your camels for those of you who may have missed it you didn't pay it off the bins you didn't pay it off everything you don't have any bills and now god is saying leave all that behind and do what i tell you you've never met god you can't see god you don't know him but are you willing to make that step and guess what else you've been having relations with your wife over all these years but now you're getting ready to have a baby wait a minute god i ain't had no i ain't had a baby and now you're telling me i'm not only have one baby but i'ma have a baby that would show the stars in the sky come on now that's why he's accredited righteous that's why he is the father of faith god's promise in genesis chapter 12 verse 3 preceded the giving of the law i will make your name great i will make your numbers wonderful i will bless you beyond your wildest imagination how many times have we disagreed with that thought righteousness is being right with god he is accredited righteousness because he's right with god he wasn't trying to be right with his dad he wasn't trying to be right with his wife he wasn't trying to be he was right with god if you put god first everything else will follow gentiles and jews believers jewish believers are the abraham seed we are the seed of abraham the same promise that he made to abraham is applicable to you and i for they enjoy the spiritual blessings right justification which he enjoyed galatians chapter 3 verse 29 hmm if i'm the seed of abraham then i must have faith like abraham and i'm going to stand on my faith because if i don't stand on my faith then i have shown no value for the faith that i stand on but god i can't see faith i can't touch faith but didn't i tell you that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen what good is it if you see it jesus says bless you thomas for what you've said and what you see but he says blessed are those who have never seen those who will never experience me that's what we're trying to teach tonight how is your faith look at the next one the bible says in romans chapter 4 verse 12 therefore the promises come by faith listen so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all of abraham's offspring not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of abraham that's just me and you he is the father of us all as it is written i have made you a father of many nations he is our father in the sight of god in whom he believed the god who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as they are good god almighty now please know that there's over 8 800 promises of god available to us faith and the prerequisite for those faith for those for those promises is faith faith is the prerequisite for receiving god's promise that's why when we talk about the 1500 club we want to increase your spiritual growth we want to increase your faith we want to make sure you understand that the hooper station is the foundation the substratum of what you stand on is your faith that's what i loved about reed temple when i walked in they had mark 22 11 it says have faith in god when you have faith in god you can tell the mountain to move when you have faith in god you know you can get a job when you have faith in god you can tell that which is not what she is what do you mean by that pastor god promises or by grace alone we can't pay for it we can't go to school for it we can't earn it since the promise is by grace then the res the promise can only be received by faith watch this video as you understand romans chapter 4 verse 17 this is big today's question is what is meant by call those things which are not as though they were in romans chapter 4 verse 17. in this video i'll answer that question from a biblical perspective then afterwards as always i'll share some helpful resources so stick around to the end [Music] [Applause] the context of romans chapter 4 is salvation by faith paul uses the example of the patriarch abraham to show how our relationship with god is based on faith and not the works of the law romans chapter 4 verse 17 states as it is written i have made you a father of many nations abraham is our father in the sight of god in whom he believed the god who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not the truth that god calls into being things that were not is expressed various ways in various translations god calleth those things which be not as though they were kjv calls into existence the things that do not exist esv calls into being that which does not exist in asb and summons the things that do not yet exist as though they already do any t it is possible to understand the last part of romans chapter 4 verse 17 as meaning that god has the ability to create ex nihilo this idea is brought out in translations that say that god creates new things out of nothing the nlt or simply creates new things the cev the nothing in this context would be the deadness of sarah's womb mentioned in verse 19 and the new things that god creates would be abraham's offspring mentioned in verse 18 god gives life to the dead and creates something from nothing the other translations emphasize the decree of god the fact that he calls or summons when god speaks it's as good as done he changed abram's name to abraham father of a multitude while sarah was still childless god spoke of abraham's descendants when as yet there were none god truly has the ability to speak of impossible things and in the speaking make them possible abraham heard god's promise and believed it that faith was credited to abraham as righteousness genesis chapter 15 verse 6 and provides the example for all who would later exercise faith in god romans chapter 4 verse 11 looking into the future god can speak of things that do not exist as if they do exist god has power over death and the ability to create life abraham believe this and so do we if we are spiritual descendants of abraham see galatians chapter 3 verse 29 some word of faith groups misused romans chapter 4 verse 17 to teach the name it claim it doctrine according to this false doctrine we can speak god's word over our finances our bodies our automobiles etc and see miraculous results to our benefit all we need is a confession and enough faith and god will transform the physical realm into an environment of blessing we can speak those things that are not as though they are sit back and enjoy the fruit of our words of course romans chapter 4 verse 17 is not remotely about the power of our words it's about the power of god's promises and his faithfulness to keep those promises isaac the son of promise was not born because abraham confessed or declared certain words but because god promised he would be so simple i think accidentally oh which means i i take something god took nothing and made the world god took nothing and and planted the animals god took nothing and planted the fish in the sea god took nothing and shaped heaven and earth god took nothing and made adam then he took from adam his rib and made eve nothing he took nothing without adam asking for anything it's god it's god we have to put our faith in god not in our words we have to put faith in god's word not in our word otherwise we're equal to god we're getting ready to build a tower to babel it is about god's word look at what the text says the text says against all hope abraham in against all hope abraham in hope believed the constant expectation of god and he became the father of many nations i'm talking to you today just as it had been said to him so shall your offspring be without weakening in his faith he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old and that sarah's womb was also dead yet he did not waver through the unbelief regarding the promise of god but he strengthened but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to god i'm talking to somebody here today being fully persuaded that god had power to do what he had promised this is why it was credited to him as righteousness he had faith in god and god credited to him god god put it on his book god said you have faith in me so therefore you are made righteous because we can't make ourselves righteous only god can make us righteous abraham and sarah did not doubt god but had hope in god hope is the constant expectation that god will deliver i'm talking to somebody here because you saw that in genesis chapter 15 verse 5 and verse 6 abraham and sarah faced the fact that he was impotent she was infertile and they had no life hallelujah in that womb they had no life in abraham there was no medical there was no aid for abraham no he was a hundred years old and she was older yet and they were aged but they had faith and looked what god did god blessed them not just with one baby but two god bless them to have abraham and then isaac and jacob hallelujah we see that we are the seeds of abraham genesis chapter 17 verse 17 21-5 god responded responding to abraham's faith i'm talking to you today empowered him him and sarah physically to generate the child of promise i'm excited about this text why because i want to make sure if you can hear anything that i'm talking about we are made righteous by our faith in god abraham and sarah gave glory to god that is he praised god by exalting or exclaiming his attributes i know i'm talking to somebody here because you may want to take credit for your job but god gave it to you you may want to take credit for that little car that you drive but god gave it to you you may want to take credit for your house but god gave it to you you want to make take credit for the babies that you have but god gave it to you don't you understand that everything that you got everything that you have everything that you're responsible for is from the lord and when we understand good god almighty that even if we are born in reproach even if we're born and down even if we're born in hatred even if we're born with sadness even if we're born with sickness they told jay bass that i'm getting ready to increase your territory i'm going to bring you out of darkness into the light i'm going to expand your life i'm going to expand your horizon i'm going to expand your experience that's why our faith is what makes us abraham was fully persuaded i want to know if you're fully persuaded i just want you to write in the text i want to be like abraham i want to be fully persuaded that god is able to deliver us when you think about when you think about harriet tubman when you think about the fact she couldn't read nor write and she was able to take men and women out of slavery she could not see she had challenges even with her physical health but she was able to move through the severn river and move them from the south hallelujah to canada when you think about a when you think about frederick douglass could not read or write taught himself how to read taught himself how to write went before congress and began to argue for freedom began to argue for making sure that the friedman bank the first black bank in the united states that would make loans to folk who couldn't afford to open up a business couldn't afford to have a to have a farm couldn't afford to make their children go to school but the freedmen's bank was the bank that that frederick douglass was the president of who had he made sure that he kept records of the slaves kept records of the money that they had kevin records of who they are and that same freedmen's bank is used today to track our people back when you think about ancestry.com they're going to free men's bank that was run by frederick douglass when you think about the the the the abolitionist movement you can't help but think about frederick douglass when you think about frederick douglass you can't help but tie it into harriet tubman but both of them had faith in god so we would be able to be where we are here in the dmv because it was right down the street in saint james hallelujah i believe it was jamestown virginia that the first slave ships were dropped where they dropped us right down the street yet we are free right here in the dmv and we have one of the richest counties called prince george's county because of the faith of people who did not have the same educational opportunities that we have what's the application i'm glad you asked because the application is simple if we look at the text the application is in the text because the word it says it was credited to him we're written not for him alone that's the application it was written for me and you but also for us to whom god will credit righteousness are you right with god for for us who believe in him who raised jesus our lord from the dead and he was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our forgiveness for our righteousness here's what i'm teaching first you got to believe in the resurrection of jesus christ number two we got to bless somebody bless somebody blessed means that i am doing what i am sharing my power i'm sharing my strength i'm sharing my life i'm lifting up one another when you bless somebody too often we think the blessing is always financial but it's really about sharing your power sharing your knowledge sharing your strength sharing your life when i talk to my sons and i got three i don't talk about how great i am at read temple i don't talk about what i did in los angeles the fact that this in fact did that no i talk about my life i talk about how i failed i talked about how i was homeless i talked about how i hung out with the wrong people i talked about how things were tore from the floor but when i met jesus it changed my life when i met jesus when i was 29 it changed my life and when i met jesus i let go of the ugly things i let go of the bad things i let go of them and do you know my sons are christians now my sons have never been to jail my sons are not are strung out on so my sons don't have children all over the place why because i told them about my failures how do you apply this thing when you bless people you affirm our solidarity with one another and wishing them well you affirm your solidarity with one another you affirm the relationships that you have you don't put people down you don't know you don't desecrate their name you don't gossip behind their back you don't stab them in their back but you affirm one another that's what reed temple is about right i read temple is about affirming one another encouraging one another and loving one another because most of us are sometimes one paycheck away two paychecks away from being in trouble most of us are one decision away from a sin one decision away from a challenge one decision away from a bad day we must what affirm one another that's what blessings mean blessings means sharing your wisdom sharing your knowledge sharing your finance and sharing the love but wait a minute i got one more i got one more because if you give a blessing you're going to receive a blessing somebody write it in the chat if i give a blessing the reciprocal the the reciprocity the the what's going to come back to me is i'm going what receive a blessing somebody shout on to the lord somebody just give god a glory praise because you're getting ready to receive a blessing i'm about to share with you how you're going to do it one must be wrecking righteous by god good god almighty i don't said it i then said it if you're righteous with god then you can expect a blessing from god and when you're righteous with god you're righteous by faith hallelujah i'm talking to somebody here today you got something in the mail that you didn't expect to come i ain't talking about a stimulus check i'm talking about you just got a blessing that you didn't know was coming your way you got a job that you didn't know was coming your way you got a friend that apologized it didn't come your way you got a blessing that came your wealth and i know i'm talking about because you are the righteousness of god we must believe in god's promises let me share just a few of those problems slow down reverend so they can hear what you're saying we must believe in god's promises don't you know that god promised never to fail you god promised never to let you go god and promise hallelujah never to fail you that's why joshua in 2145 says not one of all the lord's god good promises to israel failed everyone was fulfilled even though he won in the battle of jericho we know that he got that not whip like he was fighting mike tyson george foreman and muhammad ali all at the same time he knew that he got tore from the floor and literally bruce lee walked him upside his head hallelujah but we know that god promised good god almighty that that he would never fail but he failed at ai he lost the war because he failed to take god with him a-i-a-i you'll find it in the book of of joshua chapter seven we know that he failed but when he took god with him god did not fail him wait a minute here's another promise god is always good ain't god good because god is good and god is good what all the time we know that in psalm chapter 119 verse 68 it says you are good and do good teach me your statues the only thing good in life is god god is good when we're bad god is good when we're trying to be better god is good when you understand the goodness of the lord you can't help but shout i dare you to write into the chat how good your god is don't you know he woke you up this morning don't you know he gave you food in your stomach don't you know he protected you from covet he is good wait a minute i got another one god is what faithful god is faithful even when we're not faithful to god i said a word there god is faithful even when we're not faithful to god when we doubt god when we give up on god when we dismiss god god is faithful to us how do i know because the bible tells me so it says in hebrews chapter 10 verse 23 let us hold unswervingly to the hope we possess for he who promised is faithful my hope is built on nothing less than jesus's joy and what come on somebody you know what i'm talking about wasn't god faithful to you wasn't god the one that pulled you up out of that challenge that we had when everybody else was losing their homes but you didn't lose your home when everybody else was losing jobs about about almost a year and a half ago but god was faithful to you you got to understand i got one more and then i'm done god's designed me for a purpose oh good god almighty i'm done with this one because you got to get the text for the rest of them but i want to know i want you to know one more thing that you were created for god and for god's purpose good god almighty if you don't write that in the chat you're gonna missed it you were created by god and for god's purpose i want you to write it down because when you understand that you were created for god by god and for god's purpose then you understand that the steps of a good person are ordered by the lord so you're going to ask god to step for you and step before you so that you won't find yourself misstepping alleluia or not stepping that's why the bible says in ephesians chapter 2 verse 10 for we are god's handiwork created in christ jesus to do good works which god prepared in advance hallelujah for us to do don't you understand that greater is he that's in you than he that's in the world don't you understand that god says i've already predicted i already have a plane i already have a street paid for you and all you got to do is align your life with my life don't you understand that god has got a perfect plan for you when you understand that you live according to the purpose that god has already written for you god is already preordained for you god is already delivered for you but the challenge is we want to be right for ourselves but i've got some news for you you got to get right with god i know i'm a living witness because when you get right with god god's gonna get right with you i believe i'm finished i'm done and i want you to know that if you get right with god your life is gonna get right when you get right with god your family is gonna get right when you get right with god your children gonna get right when you get right with god your family is gone your finances are gonna get right when you get right with god you become the righteousness of god you're justified by faith hallelujah because god has justified you god has made you right come on give god a glory praise i dare you to write into the chat that i am better now hallelujah than i was yesterday because all things work together for the good for those who love the lord and have been called according to his purpose and i have been purposed by god and i'm purposefully aligning with god because god is the foundation that i stand on god is the purpose that i wake up for god is the sustainer of my life and i thank you jesus for giving me life i thank you jesus for giving me salvation i thank you jesus for giving me my sin i thank you jesus for doing it before i even ask for thank you lord in jesus name we are the righteousness of god we are the righteousness of god but we're right by faith let me open up the doors of the church dear god there's somebody here today that tuned in because they had some problems because some things weren't going right because life was going sideways if they're anything like me nothing was working family had disappointed you health was bad people were taking advantage of you but when you bring your surrender to god when you take it off your shoulders have your way god i'm willing to leave everything that i thought i valued but i value my faith in you more than anything else in the world i want you to pray this prayer with me dear god i confess my sins by thought word and deed against your divine majesty the memory of them is grievous unto me and i submit to you god that i believe in jesus christ as my lord and savior i submit to you god till i know that you lived died and rose again on the third day and because of that faith i am saved in jesus name amen if you type into the screen www.readtemple.org cares from are you just simply online and you're asking for prayer or salvation or to join the church we have ministers on staff right now reverend dubai reverend whitby reverend kim reverend deck on staff right now waiting for you just touch that button receive jesus christ i'm going to ask you also for those of you who want to be a part of the 1500 project just type in i want to be a part of the 1500 project i want to be a part of the movement of god to share this word while you're typing that in it's offering time thank you for being obedient to god thank you for being part of the movement of my chisel deck through jesus christ who says bring your offering to god don't question don't argue about it just bring your offering to god because jesus is part of the high priest through the lineage of machis deck not aaron but my children so i'm going to pray for your offering you know what we're doing at reed temple we're we're feeding people we're clothing we're providing temporary housing we even have the woodlands project which provides housing and we still have some apartments available providing chromebooks for seniors just yesterday we provided donation to a school in africa but right now organizing things for haiti we need your help god is saying bring your gift into the storehouse and i will bless you the blessing comes through faith in a righteous relationship with god don't run away just bless him with your gift let me pray dear god for those who text read temple to 833-715-3318 we thank you for those who mail it in thank you for those who bring us to the church thank you but whatever we do god let's not just do nothing let's not expect it just to happen because we said it let's be faithful to god let's do what god tells us to do in jesus name we pray amen thank you for those who are joining thank you for those who are giving this for me is the q and a time this is this is a critical moment right now this is where uh we really get into the meat of the word it's it's not just a bobble head talking it really is about answering your questions that you may have because we talked tonight about the righteousness of god we talked about justification by faith we talked about the righteousness by faith we talked about getting right with god and we dealt a lot with faith so tonight and i know my 1500 project participants my bible study disciples will have questions and we invite you to ask your questions and even make comments and we want to answer those questions for the next yes for the next 15 minutes hello g if abraham's faith in god comes before the law and it did what was the act of circumcision that led abraham to believe and have faith in god wholeheartedly wholeheartedly heart so let's so let's wrestle with that because paul would say that the circumcision certainly i didn't see these circumstances you said circumstance what was the act or circumstance that led abraham to believe good question i've read circumstance as circumcision abraham's faith was unquestioned and it was tied to his belief in god it was tied to the promises of god it was an unwavering hope in god so in other words sheila the ground didn't open up the red sea didn't split manna didn't fall from heaven in my research he heard from god and he believed god it's so simple because if it were anything else then it would be work the jews felt that your work and please some people say james says faith faith without works is dead please know that james the brother of jesus would say you first have to have faith then you do your work abraham had faith with no work to prove or no law to prove that he was accomplished that he did what god told him to do he simply believed woo so god then credits him with righteousness because he literally steps out on faith there's a story as i prepare for my next question when moses his name is nakshama when moses has all of the israelites at the re at the red sea reecy and he's telling them i'm going to pull up my staff and the sea is going to split nobody believed him nobody had enough faith to believe after the ten plagues after the blood on the doors after fire by night cloud by day all of that had taken place and he says i'm gonna lift my staff and when i lift my staff the red sea is going to split nobody believed it except one man his name was naksha naksham naksham heard what moses said and he immediately ran into the red sea everybody else was looking at him like what is wrong with you i know what the prophet said i know what he's done but this crazy man told us that the seas gonna split and they split now charm ran into the water up to his eyeballs and guess what the water did it split intellectual faith is one thing but when you activate your faith that's another we can talk about faith all day long that's not activating your faith no naksham activated his faith by going into the water head deep abraham activated his faith by stepping out on faith paul is saying activate your faith there should be some manifestations there should be some physical evidence that you truly believe that your hope is built in god stop waiting that's why in verse 4 17 this this x nilio that only belongs to god speakers speak as if it is although it's not but don't you use your word stand on the promises of god oh that's good next question hey bill heard and believe have not asked not that's good speak to the mountains and we'll speak hear speak and believe by faith alone but the first thing bell is you have to have faith and in that faith we have to then be tied to god here's the priority and the primacy of prayer so often we are praying to god but are we listening to what god is praying to us but i did what i i did what i thought i was supposed to god did you talk to god sometimes we don't even talk to god we just move forward and that's what she said first i heard god and then i believed god i'm not bragging here i heard god tell me move from california to maryland i heard it and i moved best decision i ever made her god but the only way you're gonna hear god is that you have to position yourself you have to you you have to purpose your life you have to have a prayer life it has to be prime i know why because my wife and i and and and and reverend debayer and reverend deck we have been doing a 6 a.m prayer call every day monday through friday since march 15 2020 every day and and when we see the manifestations we see the miracles we see the we see the response we see that we see the movement of god today when we had our first 1500th project meeting some 37 people on there and they're excited about building this this platform for spiritual knowledge and right now i'm looking and i see 1500 people i i i see it i i i'm speaking it as if it is although it's not because god gave the revelation that there will be 1500 people here by march 2022 but i believe it so you have to first hear and then believe the man sees his daughter who's blind in the water and she's drowning and he runs out to the shore she can't hear she can't see him and she says to her listen to my voice she immediately stops panicking listen to my voice she settles down and he was able to pull her onto shore but she could not see faith is the substance of things hope for the constant expectation of god and the evidence of things not saying do you hear him faith comes by what hearing and hearing by the word of god last question and we will go home hey jb wise i'm better and my sons are better today because god is our purpose that's good pray for our young men and and surround them with good examples positive mentors protect them from bad influences that's why i love me some joseph deck brethren joseph deck he's the minister to men and young men at re temple as we pray for our men we also must pray for our women i thank god jb that your sons are good i'm talking to a good friend of mine reverend deborah manz and there's so many women who are being abused sold human trafficking not by black men but by men who come into prince george's county and take advantage of them god in the name of jesus for young men who have been tempted by drugs and tempted by gangs and tempted by violence tempted to drop out of school tempted to not do well in school for the same women our young girls our young women have moved away from reading writing and arithmetic now i've gotten caught up in the rhythm of the streets the rhythm of sex the rhythm of drugs the rhythm of idolatry the rhythm of money god give them a sound give him a sound give her a sound that shouts and declares that he is the way he is the life and there's no other way through him but through christ to him but through christ help us god to surround our young people and stop judging them help us god to teach them and stop ignoring them help us god to become their parents and their and their uncles and their aunts and their play daddies and their play mamas instead of trying to be like them and try to be as young as them help us to lead them but let us listen to them let's not ignore them because they've dealt with more death than we've ever dealt with they've dealt with more drugs than we've ever dealt with they've dealt with more challenges on social media than we've ever dealt with honor thy mother and father then your day will be long but honor our children raise up a child in the way they go and when they grow old they will not depart from it as solomon as let's give them wisdom let's not give them four or five hundred dollar tennis shoes but let's give them wisdom let's not give them mercedes and bentleys and bmws but let's give them wisdom let's not dress them in designer clothes but let's give them wisdom in jesus name amen i think that's it i don't know if there's one question i hate oh boy okay jen you really got to be the last question pastor [Music] there are some who believe that you cannot get to god unless you work what would you say to that and i know they're referencing faith with our works is dead that's why paul writes in the book of romans chapter four i'm not chapter four but the first eight books of the book of romans is based on doctrinal beliefs so the jews would say that works would be tied to the law and the law is tied to wrath or the law is tied to guilt and shame and when we know that it's tied to guilt and shame we never feel good enough we never feel worth and worthy enough i don't know about you but i get an annual review by my bishop but when i was in corporate america i used to really hate getting annual reviews by my supervisor because i always thought i did better and the supervisor would always say i didn't do as well maybe you're better than i am but that's what that's what would happen to me and so i hated reviews i don't even like to give them because i know that people don't like to be put down people don't like to feel like they're not good enough so if you gotta work at salvation you have to work at a blessing you have to work at it [Music] you'll compare your work to somebody else you'll compare your life to somebody else you'll compare their blessing to your blessing that they work harder yet the blessing comes by grace is unearned [Music] it's not a meriter meritorious group blessing but it's just a blessing it's not based on merit christianity is not a meritocracy it is a theocracy so therefore i must put my i must have faith in god because my entire salvation is built on faith in the book of romans chapter 10 if i if i believe in my heart confess with my mouth that jesus christ is lord then i am saved so it is based on faith not law not on work my salvation is based on faith so therefore i stand on faith not on my work i i'm not suggesting that work is not good we must do the work we must volunteer we must become servants of god we must take care of the homeless we must take care of the the hungry we must take care of the heart we must take care of those who are housed we must take care of those who are hurting that's work but don't make sure we don't supersede the work without having faith i didn't get here by work i came here by what faith it is faith that we stand on it is faith that we're grounded in that's why when we say the ministers who are coming into the gospel who want to be preachers for the first time don't allow somebody to call to misrepresent your calling don't allow somebody to tell you you haven't been called because you've been called based on your faith they may not like you they may not agree with you but that faith is personal i don't care what your measurement is i don't care how you evaluate it it really doesn't matter because it's between me and my god because what you're doing is being like the law you giving me a bad review nobody likes to be put down didn't tupac say only god can judge me that's what he said so your faith is what strengthens you your faith is what gives you the confidence your faith is what grounds you your faith is what keeps you humble [Music] how many arrogant people who have money have little to no faith when they lose their money they've lost everything i hope that answers thank you for listening tonight next week we're going to teach on uh romans chapter 5. romans chapter five is exciting and then once we get through five through eight and i'm only gonna teach you on five next week um and you'll get that if you write me and you want the slides these slides you can go with some screen and you can go to our website or to the
