Michigan State vs Iowa Football Game Highlights 11 7 2020

a.m a glorious day for football at kinnick and a michigan state team coming off of a huge win in ann arbor last saturday against an iowa group that would love to get their first win of the season it's a big coughlin sends it deep and we are underway and this is going to come out to the 25-yard line a little tunnel screen to tyrone tracy he shakes and fakes his way for a first down much last week and it was put on petrus's shoulders he's got a play action fake here on second down five wide open he finds a crosser it's the tight end sean easy throws on the move for the [Applause] quarterbacks jet sweep to charlie jones he turns the corner charlie jones down the sidelines stays in bounds enterable on offense first goal at the 11th makai sergeant fighting his way inside back in for sergeant a bullet to the goal line driven back in they'll give it to goodson and he will steamroll his way into the end zone for an opening drive iowa touchdown they made dominant on the offensive line look at the left side all those reach blocks great job by nights of getting up into that linebacker navigating this protection from michigan state five-man rush he's well protected and a really nice throw right to the first down line to third down and six lombardi shirts off a sack the rush coming from the backside he's still able to launch one down the sideline and throws an interception to jack kerner a giveaway it's a great job by lombardi of getting off that initial contact and he thinks naylor is going to go downfield he snaps his route off and a huge turnover for this hawkeye we picked on those corners over and over and over again [Music] third down and seven here petrus finds a crosser that's an easy pickup to nico regani for a first down and more he's all the way down it becomes number two he's changing their responsibilities pressure coming off the edge flips it to kelly martin he's got a first down in the red zone and he's inside the 15 [Music] this yet michigan state's defense five-man rush they set up the screen and it's dropped by tyler goodson [Applause] in the end zone is hauled in by brandon smith for the iowa touchdown what a great adjustment by smith you see the leak right there decation two possessions for the hawkeyes two touchdowns four-man rush lombardi short of the line to gain seth benson port is a great option for this offense deep safety beatrice with a tipped ball at the lock and michigan state is able to force the three and i've got to think ball has to get pushed outside swing pass down the sideline and that looks to be good enough for a first down fighting inspiration to give great perspective gentlemen this is year four of the 41-yard punt but then a 26-yard return boy that changed his field position for petrus kick ball and it finds its way to brandon smith that throw just a little bit of touch on those shallows to get on the receiver so quickly this time he shows the arm strength brandon smith had it knocked out of his hands sergeant no gain on he's there for your [Applause] defense [Applause] there's motion again you're trying to gain leverage for something here tracy out in the flat that's where petrus goes with the football and that's a really nice pullback here big part of this iowa offense [Applause] tyler goodson for the touchdown the fullback and then check out the left tackle eric jackson that is a pancake block scrooge and a 21 to nothing lead actions and struggling michigan state offense isn't doing it right now [Music] [Applause] and he bulldozes his way down quarterback vision on the quarterback ball comes out let me go find football seems like some miscommunication on this michigan state offense with gillison but just the vision the ability to do both things take on your block and keep your eyes where the football back to the offensive tyler goodson petrus looking for the tunnel screen and michigan state was ready for it they'll play it conservatively and they will set up the field goal group is kelly martin you at least have the chance to turn into three points and now it looks like some trickeration for this field goal group and maybe a time out called by michigan state from there's three more on when i look at that dance the word gritty is not comes to mind now the more conventional field goal opportunity and a little bit of a wobble on the hold there seem to throw for their offense see the brace on the left knee [Applause] rocky lombardi when he's communicating at the line of scrimmage [Applause] iowa trying to disguise where the pressure is coming from lombardy long throw short the longest offensive play i think sam laporta up in the slot finding that matchup that you love danny in motion and he drops the ball michigan state the long field out in front of rocky lombardi now starting at the eight-yard line throwing from the end zone here's the first shot down field man-to-man coverage and that's what they've been looking for jalen naylor gets it all the way down inside the 40-year shot look at naylor just run let that db have bad nosey eyes and adjust to the football outstanding adjustment hands catch and it gives this offense life we called through and committing purdue and then went there and okay i went to uconn collins turned aside now what do you do if you're michigan state now it's fourth down that coughlin will try [Music] a line drive that ben's wide no good from 48 yards out four-man rush beatrice well protected that's a tipped ball almost intercepted on the carom tray these are the end zone throw again on the out route just dirts it after that lack of comfort shows up when that ball looks like that going to the receivers with a line drive jones has been a weapon changing field position so far for iowa and he has a head of steam here inside the 10 yard line to the pile on and in for the touchdown 28 to nothing drive punt he makes one guy miss look no one is even remotely close to where he is he gets 40 yards in the return without every game getting touched [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and it's another interception riley moss it was thrown right to him and it is a pick six good job by rocky lombardi no one's open okay i gotta leave the pocket and this is the moment panic what do i do with the football moss just hanging out in his zone and then the ability to not only get the turnover but turn it into six for this football team it's better come to defense and special teams playing their part jump ball it's intercepted it's like a long punt [Music] [Applause] you know my buckles squat you getting corners down at the field i think you just take your shot downfield for a jump ball [Music] he almost threw another interception matt hankins jumped in standing by with jesse palmer joey galloway full of all the highlights and scores the halftime report you ran the football you got defensive scores special teams but you still want to keep your gas down and continue to play good football for the iowa hawkeyes well let's take a look this isn't with his feet and right up the middle simmons for a first down three plays in the second half of over 30 or 40 yards to get back into this [Applause] game and throwing it to nowhere is lombardi are they going to say that's a loose ball he threw it forward davion nixon takes it into the end zone the officials on the field fake they've got a big play down the sideline and into that ball starts to move as he hangs on to it for just a second look at the pump fake now does the ball start to move i don't know it seems like he's still got control of that football throws it forward the nano second line lost it down at that spot second down please reset the game clock to 13 minutes it was an interception so that was something i learned during my time in the nfl with gary kubiak protected here and here's the bomb down the sideline on third and long drops it into jalen naylor for about 10 12 yards he just runs right by him hankins can't help himself at defensive back right now play action alive into the end zone looking for ricky white and that one's [Applause] inside the 10-yard line what option you're gonna get man-to-man covers on the outside you find your guy you like the most here comes the blitz lombardi off his back foot and that'll be a first down it's caught by tyler hunt in one end zone [Applause] toss sweep simmons tries to turn the corner looking for the pylon reaches the ball out quarterback sneak and lombardi get it in it looks like he will be about a half yard shot from him in the ball third down and goal it's a handoff to the tight end hunt he tries to turn the corner and does touchdown michigan state hunt watch him come on this jet sweep handoff and the defense for iowa was there gulstan's there stiff arm and then go find the pylon great effort by hunt to hear about this game getting close and yet they have had difficulty in the center miss iowa football team today [Applause] breaking tackles he's inside the 30. still on his feet inside the 20 all the way down inside the five-yard line before kalyn girvin saves a touchdown watch the motion watch 45 right there harvey pulls back side to follow that tight end goodson a great job of seeing that hole in vision shutting off that tackle go find the end zone 107 yards rushing for tyler goodson and a couple of touchdowns as well play action end zone and complete trying to find and separate i'll try and run for it down to about that fullback this is what iowa does offensively and this one the sergeant and he's in for the touchdown so just like that after michigan state gets sweep motion and then watch pada bomb that left side of that offensive line worked together a great job by the fullback and then sergeant used to play really well at the line of scrimmage and that forces some of these jumps from michigan state so on third down and 12 lombardi long throw to the sideline again it's over the head of ricky white [Applause] jet sweep motion beatrice fakes it to him and that ball bobbled and dropped by tyler goodson super bowls and the michigan state quarterback is named after the legend and dan we were talking about returning after vietnam to play football it's incredible when the rocky breyer obviously uniquely happened beatrice flips one to sean box state beats michigan last week and now indiana putting it to them today as petrus goes over the middle to go to on some third down situations offensively wobbly throw to the sideline and that is incomplete so that'll bring up seven bobo shoes with dan orlowski and paul carcatera spencer petrus opens up the fourth quarter with a bullet to the sideline intended for brandon smith yeah very good five seconds of summer or whatever tip ball incomplete on the slant did we bring you the game we thank you for your service and hopefully we're a distraction on a football saturday for you back here in the states the end around charlie jones he's had himself a day so the hawkeyes scoring their first offensive touchdown in the second half in their last six big ten games they had another just gaining the edge watch alert jackson gain the edge then turn back brandon smith get in the blocks goodson doesn't even have anyone to really block his hawkeyes today tyler goodson has two touchdowns on the right way passion execution they're going to be watching this tape with a keen eye long throw by lombardi a sliding catch made between the safety that's playing cover two in the corner that's playing cover two there's a ten yard hole there that you have to have that ball placed into and he just missed it there check down to brandon how hard it was to catch those deep balls until i actually did it myself and realized how impossible it was especially over the shoulder as down goes rocky lombardi he ends up that we never get the call on offense [Applause] padilla wobbly throw to the sideline it'll be fourth and fourth but they're going to start learning as the weeks go on quarterback sneak for padilla listen i when i was making that decision i was still a little bit young as competitive as i was like i was still a little bit young and i was just going like man this kid is a true freshman i wanted to play right one about drew stanton then rips one for a first down to credit and critic well northwestern we had them last week and they outside of a couple of early big turnovers against iowa did a pretty good job of dominating a hawkeye team that today against michigan state no he hasn't especially at home he's been so good against ohio state no he hasn't he's been great a quarterback that can play at michigan in what seems to be forever [Applause] indiana and indiana is really good and they're having a good season but you're getting dump trucked by indiana a week after you lost to michigan state no speaking of which that was a statement today by iowa that they may have gotten off to a mistake-filled 0-2 start but they are not to be taken lightly as they beat michigan state the week after the spartans beat
