[Applause] well just to get the ball rolling welcome back to Arizona because you I know you spend a lot of time here as a kid and what uh yeah I grew up and I was born in Alabama then I grew up in a Lincoln Nebraska and then I moved to Lake Havasu in high school and I wasn't like to have a su when it was really small about 6,000 people and it was just absolutely a incredible place to grow up and it's kind of a lot bigger now so keep beyond the Arizona thing then first one they had that since I get one question right I had to ask about the tombstone about tombstone yes absolutely [Applause] villains up to that is the guy next to the big guys always more interesting so Darth Vader's marching to the Emperor and Johnny Ringo was one of the best villains as like but he wasn't the main guy but he was way more Sigma code no offensive for the belt powers Boothe amazing guy but Johnny Ringo was well you know that was a very interesting experience doing that movie first of all Kevin jar who wrote the original script which was about 130 pages which is a long movie lot a lot a lot of very very big people ask me you know for I be interested in playing the role so I read through it immediately said I want to play Doc Holliday exact us know rolls are and I Kurt was already cast and they said well I thought they're probably gonna go a different direction without that that you know that part might not be available and then and then they said would you be interested in any other part and I said Johnny Rico right away because there's an actor you can tell for me it's not that you can tell that's really you know what the good roles are when roles come up in Hollywood you know actors look at them and they buy for them and they say you know they they they know that a good character and I see one the way he wasn't shot where he wanted and everything was you know just perfectly done to that time it was a much grayer movie than what you see and they brought it and in a another director who was very good visually as name was George cosmatos and he had directed Cobra which was like a stong movie Leviathan it's movies that looked really really good so what we had is we had a great script we had great actors and we had been finally somebody that would make the movie look really good and a lot of stuff got cut out of the movie a lot of stuff got cut out of the movie and mostly the stuff about you know the fact that it was a greater story there weren't really heroes there weren't really good guys and bad guys for instance Johnny Ringo never shot a priest that just just came out because they wanted to have a bad guy yeah and that was not originally when I went to Tucson to shoot the movie that was not in the script but once once once Kevin got fired they Disney you know came in and made some changes along with Kurt who helped keep that movie together and Johnny Ringo really was not really known for anything other than being drunk very smart very bookish knew Latin and he called out wider at one point and said to a gunfight and wider declined and I don't know exactly what the circumstances were but what happened was when we shot the movie Kurt Russell who's the star of the movie you know didn't want you know this guy comes out and challenges to a gunfight Kurt didn't want to be like that's okay I wanna you know he was Moody that's very understandable you know that he would not want to do that so what he did was come changed it that he didn't he said I'm not healed and again there's that vernacular that Kevin wrote throughout the entire movie which is just incredible wouldn't be healed meaning he didn't have his pistols on he didn't have the 6006 just shooter on so that's the way they handle that see that scene that it was a very fun experience because there was so many great great great actors on that movie and I really enjoyed it and had a great time making it we made it right outside of Tucson in a little town called mezcal the movie really that Kurt was the hero powers was the bad guy okay and me and Val were kind of like they're you know they're underneath guys you know and by the time they gave it to Disney and they got done cutting it it really kind of turned out that Val and I had really kind of stole the show tell you the truth a lot of respect so I have a little trouble saying that I'm not sure that's exactly what happened but people ask me a lot about Val Kilmer a lot of people here is really difficult to work with and I just have I've done two films with him now and that just is not the case it's certainly not the case with me and just to give you an example Curtis I mean the fellas very uh like he wants to run right he doesn't suffer fools well and either do I you know I mean if it's not right then like I'm gonna I'm not gonna be happy about it that's the same with him and so to give you an example Val and I went out while they were shooting a day before we shot that final scene the gunfight scene under the oak tree and down and I basically choreographed that scene and we worked that scene out over and over and and we really came up with the idea of like instead of the guys standing here and the guys standing here you know doing our lines you know we were actually gonna be right next to each other one of the reasons was because a lot of times in the old days back there when they would have those gun fights there would be like 20 feet apart from each other and they could hit each other you know they keep sure missing you see they're busy you know so we decided to do it real close like that do the whole thing we'll returning and when we had that choreographed down to the point where I would I knew it was gonna be shooting we've gone off the bullet that's gone through my brain and so we would really rehearsed that scene and worked very hard on it so we had down and there's a moment in that scene that I feel maybe is like the greatest for me as an actor over the 30 or 40 years I've been acting is kind of what my favorite moment as an actor and that's when he says we'll all be your huckleberry and I say you know like my fights not with you and he says well yeah it is with me and I and I looked at him and I kind of realized what he's saying and I get a look in my eye look at my eye before I say I like let's do it you know to me is like kind of my favorite moment on film out of my entire career Wow I didn't think you had it in you I'm your huckleberry Johnny Ringo like somebody just walked over your grave fights not with you holiday I'll beg to differ sir we started the game we never got to finish play for blood remember I was just fooling about I wasn't and this time legal all right longer let's do it [Music] they win [Music] honey come on
