Never in all the movies I've watched have I seen a actor so perfectly cast than R. Lee Ermey in FMJ.
It was his job I suppose, but it was great in the sense that he prepared his entire life for the role.
Absolutely mindblowing that they filmed this in London.
They did a great job on this film. As I was watching it, my first reaction was, wow, I really need to see FMJ again. But by the end, I was thinking, hmm, I don't know if I can take it.
They mention Michael Herr's Dispatches -- I cannot recommend that book enough. Fantastic
I woke up at a friend's house in high school after a night of drinking. Laying there on the couch, his brother came in and started up Full Metal Jacket. I was like whatever - and casually watched it. That film grabbed me and I hadn't seen anything like it before. I had seen A Clockwork Orange and it had done the same thing to me - the film that made me want to make films. Kubrick was amazing!
I see so many people in the comment section saying how much better the first part is or how boring the 2nd part is. Am I the only one who actually liked the 2nd part more?
Anyone who has not seen this film should just do it. If I had to choose one and only one war film that is worth watching it would be FMJ!
TIL Kubrick himself decided to ban Clockwork Orange in the UK.
I am surprised at how many people when I make a Full Metal Jacket reference don't know what the hell I'm talking about. It's such a good movie.
