MGM Grand Buffet Las Vegas has Returned! (2021 Edition) - Traditional Vegas Buffet is back!!!

at the newly reopened mgm grand buffet it's reopening season and just like caesar's mgm has decided to reopen its buffet we visit the opening day of the mgm buffet and we'll show you the food and tell you what we know about the reopening first of all mgm grand occupies a large space on the corner of tropicana avenue and las vegas boulevard it's a huge property and one of the early resorts of the modern las vegas strip era mgm is one of the classic hotels on the current las vegas strip they build themselves as the entertainment capital of the world and so uh it's basically one of the sort of classic las vegas resorts and also sort of the classic uh place you think of for instance david copperfield he is classic las vegas entertainment what you think of but they also have jabbawockeez which is the new school the new uh trending entertainment options that you can find in las vegas uh the japanese show is terrific actually and so uh if you are able you ought to check it out but we're going to talk about the buffet today so let's get to the buffet and it's in the back of the casino you walk all the way through to get to the buffet and it's kind of a classic buffet it's one of the original buffets that you think about when you talk about las vegas buffets and so it's certainly one of the throwbacks in terms of buffet experiences and it's more in line with sort of the classic buffet fair it's not exotic and not gourmet uh not like caesars and some of the other buffets that are trying to be more high-end and certainly succeeding in that but they have a vast selection of food they used to be you know one of the big buffets on the strip as you can see opening day was a little bit chaotic and we'll talk a little bit about it uh one of the things uh they do not take reservations so you can walk up so that's one good thing you can walk up and and you know it's first come first serve uh to get into the buffet one aspect that has not been worked out yet is the status so if you're an m life member uh they do not have priority lines for status based on status so right now it's just getting getting in line with everyone else there's no uh platinum status line no nor noir status line uh you can see the buffet is open very open space the design is classic kind of old school this is tradition with mgm buffets is the beverages is self-serve so here is the beverage station they do have freestyle machines from coca-cola they also have uh tea as well as uh these these fruit drinks uh as well as minute maid juices and milk and coffee and again it's self-serve this is not unlike uh what was going on before the the pandemic uh mgm had gone to the non-uh drink service uh we're gonna start here on the line and i want to say on the line is going to change they don't have permanent sort of uh markers for the food so some of this food actually changes during the buffet so some of these labels are not going to be accurate so i just wanted to point that out because unlike the recent caesar video those those uh pre-made signs were very accurate to the dish in some cases on this particular buffet uh they did not have uh permanent signs because i think their buffet changes quite a bit so they just write sort of the items on the line but you're gonna see a lot of them are accurate so you'll be able to tell what the food is and the other thing about it is there is not a set station so it's not divided into stations like asian and mediterranean and latin and you know carving and seafood it's two big lines basically one big line really if you want to think about it but two major sections of the line then there's a distinct dessert section which we'll show you later but right now you're seeing one of the lines this is kind of on the left hand side if you're entering the buffet so this is the left station line and so you'll find a little of everything you know you've got your your cheese cheese plates and and and meat and as well as you'll find some indian fair uh like curry uh also fried rice and and other things like on this particular line you'll see some dumplings which is a really cool thing but again it is not sort of separated and divided into specific types of food here's lo mein as well but but you know indian chickpeas are on this particular line and you know several other items again it's got a big selection of items but it doesn't have specific sort of stations if you will other than there is a carving station which you'll see a little bit later but again the food is all together and not separated sort of by categories but there is a big selection and you'll see it and so take a look and see what is on the line [Music] [Music] so you see that it is sort of certainly a smorgasbord uh so to speak uh lots of different items all over the bar all over the uh serving line so new york steaks tater tots bacon cheese tater tots by the way uh but certainly uh not in in order by category so just all over the place you saw the really good carving station here's some brisket and some prime rib uh they do have corn and barbecue ribs as well again this this would probably be the closest thing to sort of an american station and the other one is maybe a little more international but it is certainly a solid sort of home style buffet in a way classic american a lot of people um used to have have this as their favorite buffet uh because of the fact that there was it was a lot of food uh they also like the bar aspect mgm um buffets do tend to have a bar uh area and uh there is one here as well and so here is uh a plate with some of the corn and and here's an example of of them changing things up the very end of the day they put fresh ravioli out and this was actually uh in a space that had a different food before but this ravioli was really tasty actually so it was good to see it just popped out at the very end of the buffet but the label still said something completely different um but again uh this is solid food here's the dessert station so you're gonna get to see what they have on tap for dessert and we will talk really briefly about some really cool dessert items that were excellent [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] so on the dessert uh station the shooters are really tasty as you might expect a lot of buffets do have shooters but these shooters were very tasty very good uh they had a lot of uh sort of pastries on this because again this buffet is currently open uh 7 a.m to 2 p.m so it's early only the the hawaiian frost machine was the highlight for me because this was sort of almost a take on shaved ice i guess uh so they had an orange flavor and a coconut flavor as well as a swirl flavor uh and so it was really tasty kind of like shaved ice we we have some other shaved ice uh coming up in a future video about desserts but the hawaiian frost was fantastic actually uh was really a good surprise uh you know they do have soft serve ice cream which is great as well but uh the hawaiian frost machine was a highlight uh for us but again they do have uh early meals only at the moment uh don't know exactly when they may expand to dinner but it's very reasonably priced at the moment uh 25 95 monday thursday and friday and saturday and sunday goes up to 29.99 if you are a player for my vegas you can actually earn two for one uh lunch buffets with chips i don't know if anyone still plays my vegas but if you do you can still earn uh free meals at the buffet at mgm so again this used to be the largest selection of classic american foods available in las vegas back in the day but these days it's certainly still a solid buffet and another buffet choice which is a good sign for vegas returning to normal so here you see some of the interior design of the buffet certainly again one of the classic buffets that you think about when you think about buffets uh and and it's certainly a good option if you're just wanting to try a bunch of different food here you can see some of the artwork on the wall again inspired by mgm pictures so a lot of these are from films from old mgm classics and you'll see a section here coming up that deals a lot of uh with dinner like which is very apropos for the buffet all these folks at a dinner table uh some classic photos from movies and from celebrity events but again the mgm grand buffet is classic vegas buffets and it's good to see it open again this is self-serve much like the new uh way it is done at caesars as well and that is another change for the better that everyone can self-serve except for sort of carving stations and things of that nature but again buffets are back in a big way so here is the latest the mgm grand buffet so we hope you enjoyed it and
