It grew on me over time, love Kirkβs solo and love the insane riff session going on in the second half of the song. Also seeing it live for the first time really helped in me appreciating the song more.
Imo first half is amazing, second half drops the ball on the vocal melody and riff. I'm not saying the riff isn't good, I just don't think it fits tbh
Everyone seems to adore this song, but it drags a bit in my opinion. The intro and verse is cool but the chorus could be better. Solid song overall.
It's good, don't get me wrong, but could have been like about 90 seconds shorter.
Love the opening so much.
Yes, yes, so much yes.
This is one of the twin peaks of the album, it's a fantastic song from start to finish. I've never actually watched the music video because I have my own imagery in my head when I listen to it, which is a lot. I imagine the first half to be the melancholy of the soldiers, as they're being driven to the battlefield. The "love is a four-letter word" part is as they're disembarking the jeeps and everything, and the rest is the battle taking place.
It's a super solid song, Every riff is amazing, the contrast from the sad first half to the exciting second half is great, and it's just overall an awesome song. 10/10
The video their YT channel posted of this from Philly late last year is incredibly good. When James sang βGod Iβll make them payβ it was straight black album growl.
This, All Nightmare Long, and Spit Out The Bone are probably their best songs since 1991.
Always felt like they tried to copy themselves with this one and make another βoneβ . Not a bad song, but definitely not the best on the album, production didnβt do it any justice.
I agree the final verses arenβt too good but that outro is just kinda perfect in my opinion. The intro is really good and the first verses and the choruses are just so emotional I guess. Idk this is probably my favorite Metallica song, itβs at least one of my favorites
