welcome to this week's ask Jim bein where we get to answer all those questions that you be putting in the comment section below hashtag ask Jim bein yeah absolutely and this is the ask Whistler edition we're having a great time out here at the week for Whistler Crankworx but that doesn't mean we're going to avoid your questions we want to help you just get out on those bikes so Blake I'm gonna throw some questions at you right away first one this is a good one actually work course is asking he's got a twenty two thousand 526 wale SSP full suspension bike basically it's a house brand knockoff of a Santa Cruz superlight heck it doesn't matter upfront he's got a marzocchi MX cot 105 millimeter spring fork and Outback a Fifth Element air shock I know they're labeled classic parts but can the parts still be found so what he's asking is where do i how do i service these parts on a bike that's basically got things that aren't really being produced anymore hard to find what do you do if you're in that situation part your bike has basically become extinct yeah yeah that's the question so can we utilize the parts and other brands to fit maybe so one thing I'd say is ask a specialist tuner like them in the UK we've got TF tuned yes if you search specialist tuning mountain biking you'll get sand lots of results in your local area and usually they know everything's scarring the intimate yeah but but I think if you speak to an expert about suspension they're gonna know solutions even if you can't get the part they're gonna say well if you file a bit off this and jam that in there or use an old smarty tube a little work you know and it all their local fixer it's broken out of metal yeah machine apiece yeah specifically for your fork yes so I I would go with specialist suspension tuning you know because they are the guys that know the ins and outs of it literally so that's what I'd say for that one Blake do you concur I concur Ellen right Raimondo is asking I recently bought my first dream bike congratulations specialize chisel one bike nice but I've made it terrible newbie mistake Oh No this is sad my tighten my rear axle too much and now the allen bolt is stripped set to do that have you ever used a torque wrench once I've never used one I've spent hours researching and trying to remove it but nothing works so this is seriously cannot get that axle oh oh yeah at this point I just want to save my frame and the axle threading well do you know what most thing is well let me tell you what he's thinking oh and then you the master he's shrinking the angle grinding through the rim then the hub and axle is my only viable option left any tips would be greatly welcome to tip number one don't do don't do that don't do that if you have done that tell no one don't even reply know if you've done it well I'm before you say I think you've got a solution but first thing I'd say is is nearly my answer proving go to a bike shop yeah put down your tools go or bike shop stop coming up with ideas Blake what would you do if you've rounded off that little nut that broke the little hole that you put six model or five mil allen key and if it's rounded or best way is to jam something a little bit bigger into it so maybe like a the biggest size allen key get an old one hammer it in that potentially twist get that off or flat screwdriver yes you can even to it and then slam it in yeah you do find the right flat headed screwdriver sometimes it will fit in the diagonal across the Allen clean hole and you can get it go in and then you can wind it out a hex key is the best because they've got multiple splines on that thing so depending on where if it's a five mil you could jam in like a I don't know T something a bigger one yes smack it in there those teeth are just gonna make their own holes you can twist it off yeah so their daily options but if those ones aren't working for you go to that shop and get them to help you because they'll have come across this before yeah and and what we've done okay one clever mechanic in there yeah it's not a new it's newbie but it's unfortunately not mistake you it's not the last time you're gonna do it so right moto preneur yeah good name like that says so let's make a Ravel arch on a fat bike bad or brilliant idea don't Blake be honest you've done it on a hardtail are we now looking at your next venture in a hardtail fad biking on the mega Rev lunch and it's never a bad idea it's just it's a lot less serious good idea but he's super hard rocks there anything is with fat bike tires they're really flimsy they can been cut yeah they're real thin but maybe the challenge would be getting down the mega avalanche on a fact you can do that in my own time with a number of stops yes in a race situation yeah it'll be amazing on snow yeah yes I mean that's about the top at the top you could gain so much time you win the blooming thick get the holeshot it's a brilliant idea moto preneur we're gonna do it and to remind us why that would be a good idea let's take a look at lake riding the mega avalanche on his heart L like this welcome to mega Avalon with a heart ail [Music] for the house dekes this is scary [Music] that's good right it was hard it was hard you look so good you look so emotional coming over that finish line I played it I loved it right more questions I'm right Eli ran our ball or maybe a Lyra novel I'm not sure oh yeah hi Blake hello hi hey nobble Kirin arm oh I see how this is gonna yeah I had my eye on the canyon strife for a while now my problem is sighs oh yeah oh yeah I'm between sizes small and medium okay most of us are it's five foot seven oh I'm five foot seven Kanan is recommending size small when I saw you riding me medium or fast is present a challenge yeah so how do you make that decision that's what that's what Eli would like to know yeah I wouldn't go small cuz I didn't go small because that it when it comes to descending you don't want to have a small bike your reach you know everything like that the medium was perfect for me and I've ridden the medium for ages I'm five foot eight and it's the perfect size but it all depends the best thing is to test them both yes that's the best way to Darrin area and if you can't test them both I'd go medium but you Blake's opinions medium I'm tend to say the same thing cuz I like going for a longer wheelbase gives you a much more stable bike definitely on trend as well because that's slack and long geometry is coming in at the sport of course over the last few years there are ways you could actually measure it I mean you can look at different things rather than the small medium last like top to blend and reach on your legs reach on the leg tube stuff like that but going just by pure measurements isn't going to tell you anywhere near as much as getting on the bike and ride in it so that's always gonna be the best bit of advice I hope you can do that if you're struggling to do it there may be pop to your local bike park try to spot the same bike say it the guy here can I have a quick go and I'm sure they like games what we look at you and think you're gonna steal it no banning bike is a trusting folk trusting code give that a go I hope that's helpful right Dirt Jump our action there's a guy called dirt jump nice jump asks yeah I am thinking of buying a vita center VXR you'd like possibly the vr okay so we're looking at very similar by it's been the same same run right do you think that it's worth the extra $400 for the VXR right I want to be honest I don't know that byte that well but Claudio the human algorithm he knows he went and had a look yeah he went ahead look and this is what he said he said do you mean the VR versus the VRS because the difference between those two isn't isn't huge so the price difference doesn't necessarily match up said either way the VRS is pretty much about the covers or basis bigger so worth saving $400 in the knowledge they're actually a little bit more and you get something this like it's gonna do all right you can use that 400 pounds potentially get like a nice helmet gloves no no I'm saying spend it from what the VRS oh well you're getting VR and get kit kit kit ah we've we've given you both answers there and I don't know if that is helpful but maybe just choose whose smile you like the most you did the point he's definitely in the cheesemakers okay next up we have got a question from Neal Aram and he's done he I love fan I imagine that hi champion I'm 33 years old young I'm just now getting back in a mountain but I can't ride my first cross-country race in two about 20 years ago good times but sadly in a crash 20 years 30 years ago yeah the other crash yes is that some stitches from it not knocked his confidence bad in wood now he's really struggling Neal is really struggling on whether each to get back on the bike and how is he gonna build that confidence back on sounds like what do you do you've you've crashed your confidence is gone what it what do you do to get back out on the body back on that horse it's easily said though that I know you get you crash you get straight back on weight this is 20 years later it didn't get straight back on so now I would say start small relax don't throw yourself in the deep end go and just chill out on some nice trails build that confidence I'm gonna ride that surface that you crashed on little bit slower yeah yeah slow it down slow it down yeah see I dug a little bit and we got some account you there some actual advice I'm actually pleased yeah build it up slowly slowly it's like you know your stuff I know I know you do because you definitely took some knots and on that vein let's take a look at how to build your confidence this video we did in the past hour look at this is a challenge looming in your riding career like taking the plunge to enter your first race well what about that riding a venture you've always dreamed of maybe you've had a big crash and now you need to bounce back well this video is going to give you the tools to build that confidence so you may find identifying your strengths difficult but if the thing in question is something you're wishing for rather negatively doing then I'd say you don't have what's necessary to make it happen and that will put it on the weaknesses side of the chalkboard if you're actively trying this thing or it's scheduled into your life you've booked your place and told your friends then I'd say you've put the legs under that thing with the sort of strength that will likely end up in a good result so go for it yeah good that was very good very good no Hudson Lucia says I've just got a season pass at Silver Star no I'm lucky my twitch is my local downhill mountain and I've been getting super motion sick after the fourth or fifth run oh wow that's interesting I've not heard that before do you know what this might be and our fix-it also getting really sore knuckles altitude you know why I had to be out the altitude do you know what maybe it you're putting in too many runs close together you need to like extend the gaps between your run yes which means use a bit of your flow in your momentum through the day but if it gets rid of the motion sickness is probably worth it but not breathing most riding I can give you holding your breath now might be it yes there's a few things to think about there I like the idea of the atmosphere at the altitude once you can be a breathing breathe yeah maybe try that Tracy Hannah trick sing to yourself that makes you breathe that's a good idea and parently makes you a lot quicker Oh actually gonna do that says yeah yeah imma do that yeah so yeah try those things hope it works out because you live in a fantastic place with a fantastic mountain yeah hey dudes you did a MTV Sunday ride is great question here Blake or hi guys I question big right hey hey it's me man you're wearing a gun fro with a chest strap under the shirt do you modify stock mount or is it some different kind of melt I couldn't fit my cam without damaging the set how damaging the shirt how do you do it Blake I damage the shirt my inner her a life expectancy for my race jerseys not very long when I do that I don't do it very often but it is a stealthy way to get away from having that chest chesty straps all on your back and stuff you just hide it underneath on your skin and then basically I just pull it pull my wrist Jersey done then I just slide it and I don't go fully all the way till it clicks because the friction of the fabric within the plastic kind of keeps it and I held it the whole way through mega avalanche dart pro tip but it will damage your favorite race jersey if you have a nice we're new level there with a click and point like that yeah Zend mac says hi guys I'm looking at the idea of repainting an alloy härtel frame when I get it is this going to be something that is easy enough for a novice to do is anyone at GMB had ever done it what we've all done you've done that scratch wanted that light color that we want in them that manufacturer didn't do I'm always doing it or bikes helmets thing I don't like it I mean I'm changing it I've got a good idea you said earlier when we looked at this question it never comes out as good as you so ever does it and so it's not quite what your imagined but it's worth doing cuz he's cool you just get impatient you just want to have that color done and it just yeah what what's your advice what's what's the thing you must do preparation preparation I'm sorry show like take the paint off the food system frame yes give it a bit can do it out of an angle grinder yeah yeah take it all off super quick can you yeah angle grinder yeah cut your frame no no like general you get the right blade you get the right disc for the grinder and just take it on wire brush yeah might wave like ratchets nice that can look cool I actually did a whole frame like that once and it just it looked like I am pretty good with a loaner cuz actually steamer rims on the trial yeah yeah yeah you can do a whole pot like that people looks great it's great trust me right Christopher Davidson says I here are 1 by 12 is the best it's the bomb I like it I think it's great as well it looks fantastic is that true would it work would it be worthwhile just a trail rider doing it yeah why not it's really it is really good to have the range what these bikes got was the first one's got a 1 by that's one by second one's got a 1 bar I've got one by this has even got one by now that's gone no through the three by three my my bad that's a retro bike he's actually on his workshop to get it one bite that's what I heard him say is he came around corner I think it's definitely worth doing so you have a range yeah but you don't have to go one by 12 I just think going a 1 by is a good idea and the range I I've never actually noticed anyone riding a 1 by 10 and gone oh man this damn thing hasn't got enough rainy downhill bikes me you wouldn't want to peddle them you don't need you on a downhill bike but you can run it in a different way on down there bike definitely worth doing though because it's absolutely sick I tell you what let's have a look at that video where we compare the XT versus the SLX have a look at that because that's all about that kind of thing [Music] [Music] Wow thank you for watching this week's ask ambien from winner yes mr. Ashton Blake I'm gonna let you send them to any video you like a fluid viewers out there and then I'd love the show wrapped off with your best you know click point you can give us that if you want to stick around and you want to see the mega Ravel launch POV style where I did use that chesty with the GoPro stucked in there all that jazz click over here don't forget to hit the grove to subscribe cuz you missing out some rad stuff it's a thumbs up like and we'll see you next week at askew min one more clicker point got so cheesy
