for about as long as I've been alive meepo has been part of the discourse around electric skateboards and over the past few years meepo has made quite this step up in the prosumer category in their all-tering boards such as the hurricane the hurricane Pro and now the hurricane Ultra much like Jenny From the Block they haven't forgotten where they came from releasing a brand new version of the the hopes of influencing the influencer keep watching to see if that devious marketing Ploy is going to have any kind of impact on yours truly stop sheet the meepo V5 has two 500 watts Hub Motors at the back this is powered by a 144 watt hour battery which can be doubled to 288 Watt hours on the 20 miles range model it takes a frog's air short of three hours to charge this thing from zero to full the electronic speed controller is a live 1.0 the deck is a Ply of solid Canadian maple no bamboo all Canadians got a set of double reverse Kingpin trucks dimensions are 38.1 by 11.1 by 5.7 inches Matrix system down there hey the wheels are 90 by 60 millimeters in a 78a durometer this is so cool which is which is standard for most longboards these days it's got an ipx5 water resistance rating it's got a Max load capacity of 330 pounds 98.1 kilograms hey and the basic model has a projected range of 11 miles wise to 20 mile range model has a projected range of your guess is as good as mine but I have no freaking idea whether this thing is the basic or upgraded battery model so let's find out range test I'm walking to my starting position because my dad once told me if you're gonna do something do it right I currently weigh 217 pounds and going down mind you and I want to test this board on Flatland to give it all the chances in the world so here we go starting position three two one go all right good start now I've tightened up the bushing quite a bit so I'm not quite used to the turn radius just yet but hey what's that oh no looks like Alex having trouble with his helmet time to put distance with this guy I'm doing this range test on speed mode 3 and I'm booking it all the way through [Music] so far the board has a nice acceleration the carving's a little stiff but it's what you get when you tighten up those bushings and I've got a nice stretch of open road and there's just no way Alex could catch up with me now oh damn it there he is okay then full steam ahead it is oh come on really man time to dust off one of my favorite movie insults of all time your mom is an astronaut this guy's mom's too Alex might be faster going up but now physics is on my side gravity [Applause] cruise around for about six kilometers and that's when I see it oh my God oh my God oh my God [Music] nine kilometers battery's starting to set [Applause] this thing is dying so how did she do well according to the stats she did 11.1 kilometers which is a far cry from the projected 11 miles range that you know the spec sheet says but spec sheets always lie but I'm tired of Alex kicking my ass with his backfire so somebody out there do something about it it's your cue Step Up Aesthetics look some people don't seem to like the handle cutout that they brought back from some previous models but I like it it gives this board all of its character both while riding it and while carrying it in public porn aside for the moment the rest of the board looks pretty generic grip tape has a little outline and there's a tiny little itsy bitsy meepo logo on it very pedestrian some academic might say and the underside of the board is even more economically drab simple black coating with exposed maple wood on either side I think we can agree that this board is not trying to impress anyone by its looks whatever it's telling me that it knows that it's an entry level skateboard it's not lying to you it's not trying to project more than it is remember me whatever effort is spent putting this thing together is spent on the right things ah it's all right [Music] writing experience this is my first time writing any kind of meepo and I gotta say it feels good man I mean they made their reputation as good enough budget board initially but they know what they're doing now at my weight in my riding stance I gotta say the bushings are quite loose out of the box but you know a couple half turns with the old skate tools and problems gone once I got it fine tune this thing is stable I mean solid underfoot carving is not too aggressive it's decent [Music] there is no doubt in my mind that some of this if not most of this is attributable to the eight layers of Canadian maple come on but as is the case with most entry level boards acceleration and torque are a little underwhelming even at speed level 4. that thing is fun to ride and that's what matters enjoying this so far yeah boy well tell the old Gardens controller this thing is basic it is by far the simplest controller I've owned since the Sega Master System form factor is a Liz smile for my hands which is a problem that gets compounded whenever I'm wearing wrist guards this controller is right hand biased so suck it lefties we'll need a side facing new is textured which means that the finger side doesn't have a bunch of texture and it's kind of this thing can get slippery is what I mean but the number one issue with this controller is the lack of screen anywhere what the hell does that mean simple light displays with logos I mean super basically and even if you figure it out it is barely readable in sunlight but at least the Tom wheel is very decent thank goodness because otherwise this is a bad controller I know you can do better me poke how do I know this because the mini 2s controller is so much better [Music] foreign bad controller back final thoughts all in all I like the meepo 5. it's got plenty going for it the board is responsive it is well put together that handle cutout is all kinds of practical from taking the bus to going to the gym to carry it up and down stairs and it's offset to create a nice Counterpoint with the battery now some critics say that meepo deliberately introduced a point of failure and a weakness with this handle cut out to which I can only reply your mom introduced a point of failure in society and yet here we all are oh damn seriously dude eight ply Canadian maple that thing is Bulletproof at this point I think it's fair to assume that meepo knows what they're doing which is why I must pimp slap the taste out of their mouth about this controller for my money this thing is borderline unacceptable borderline it passes by the skin of your teeth that mini 2s is so great thank you guys it's a great corruption detected system reboot skinny teeth I tell you [Music] and that's it that wraps it up for us today if you want to
