Matteo Lane & Nick Smith Take A Synesthesia Test

you're just choosing random colors with random letters I'm not randomly choosing anything welcome back to the channel today we have a very special episode why do you say we have a very special episode today is a special episode because I have something called synesthesia allegedly and if you don't know what sthesia is do I do know what it is it's a neurological condition disorder it's a condition where some people hear music and see color see letters and numbers and they see color it's like your senses and your brain overlapped so you make unprovoked automatic responses to certain things you allegedly have this I 100% have this and we're taking a test today it's called the battery test which proves that I have it so I have it where I see music I hear it and I see color and then letters and numbers all have a color when you say you see color where are you seeing the color so it's like kind of like That's So Raven you just it's a little okay you're looking at me but think of a really red Coke can okay it's something like that but unprovoked that happen in a space kind of here so like if I see letters like the S I know that s is purple I know the t is dark blue I know the r is red and it's here like I see it is colors the a is the brightest out of all of them and it's been like this since I was a kid you've never heard of this ever no I've heard of it and you think people are just making it up I think you are why I just I think you're doing it for attention I remember when I was 18 I was at Art School saic school of the art intitute of Chicago and I was at lunch and I said you guys know when you're like listening to music and you see color and everyone looked at me crazy and my friend Ernest was like that's called synesthesia and I was like what's synesthesia and I just thought everyone just thought everybody was that way but does everyone see the same colors for things I have my two is red I believe Frank's is yellow if no one sees the same colors how will the test know if you're lying or not you'll see I feel like Kathy Mitchell I'll feel like Kathy Mitchell and we'll show you okay so type of sthesia so we're just going to do there's different types of synesthesia by the way so we're going to do letters will make it super easy does your cesia go in only one direction or both directions no mine goes One Direction I don't even know what that means means goes from left to right is your cesia Association consistent or they change over time consistent when did your synesthesia begin ever since I can remember how long does your synesthesia last disappears immediately when the stimulus or thought disappears submit okay here we go read the instructions so basically when I see the letter M what color do I see so when you see the letter M what color do you see I don't see a color this is the test yeah but you just make it up no because they will ask you randomly three times in a row so basically when I see the color m i see red so I submit the color so now F blue I see brown V purple I do see purple d yellow no D is like an orangey Brown like that F purple it's like that didn't they already ask f r r matey black okay R is red but you saw m as red I see R and M is red so a I see is a bright yellow s there are 78 of these well we're going to go we're going to edit a lot I I don't know we this isn't a test this is just saying what do you see it's not telling you if you have it or not CU you could just make it ey but you just said people see different colors the reason it asks you all these because it's trying to figure out it'll ask you three times randomly right so if it asks you three times randomly because you said if you're making it up by the 58th time they've asked you R and they've only asked you once before you're not going to remember so when I see R I still see red s is like a dark purple X is almost like black black dark blue e is the only green I see and it's more like that Z is dark purple do you remember what my a was the brightest one remember this is the stupidest I have to get through 7 I hope at the end it tells you you're you don't want to add anything to this Nick what are we doing add what you're just choosing random colors with random letters I'm not randomly choosing [Music] anything if I went 30 years of seeking attention and saying this letter is yellow I would remember it too that's what you think this is you don't think that this is weird Nick that I'm no I absolutely abolutely think it's weird let's get that on the record don't you have interesting questions like wow this is what you grew up with you grew up seeing color yeah I'll ask the questions when we get the results this was supposed to be an interesting video about me having sthesia and now now it's turned into Nick completely roasting me what color do you see here the black I'm almost done Nick we are almost finished you have 20 more but that's farther along than we were last time oh my God I'm going through these really fast because Nick is putting pressure on me wake me up when you're done lying sometimes the t's and x's and stuff they're like they're almost so dark and like the sort of space around them that I see that I can't even see you're see black when you see the letter X just black consumes your vision that sounds like you're possessed it's not like that I mean I just sort of tried to explain it to you Nick and you didn't seem so yours runs from left to right something is running across your vision when you think think of like number one and then you think of the number 24 like to me one is here and then you have to go down to the right to get to 24 like it's not like I just see one and then boom it's 24 like it appears linear in my head and then they each have different colors so when you look at that word strand what do you see I told you it's like a it's some I know it's black but it's it's also a word with multiple letters so what's happening when you're reading first when I first see strien I see a purple dark darkness that kind of bleeds to the right then when I look at each that's what you think of Barbara each letter starts to have its own yeah but we don't read by letters no but that's what I'm saying that the word is a dark purple smear to the right my name is red smear to the right yours is like a dark purplee your red smeared all right God you're the worst you what number are you on I'm on 74 of 78 J I really thought this would be an interesting video good thing I did this with my best friend who could give two shits about the fact that I have fake disorder first of all no one here called it a disorder besides you it's not a disorder it is a disorder it's I would I would say it's a neurological condition okay start the test I don't understand what's happening right now it showed why as white did that match or not match oh y is white it didn't match oh B no it didn't match if I was a prisoner of war they would just have to sit me here and I would tell every state secret at this point think of a country scene which involves trees mountains and a lake consider the picture that comes before your mind's eye the color landscape yes the color the shap of the yes what does it have to do with anything I don't see you can't picture any of this like in detail it's not vivid mine's pretty vivid mine's probably like a three I think also because I'm an artist I can draw from my head so when you read this sentence you see a different color for every word mhm I literally I'd throw myself off a bridge how are you even supposed to read anything when I look look at you I see red I didn't think it was going to be this long battery test complete look at that look at that so every look at this Nick every every this is the amount of times they asked me the letter A E F G H I J K and I put down the colors that I saw every single time they asked me it was the same every time score. 59 a score below one is ranked as synesthetic so there you have it these are the colors I see in my head I don't see color [Music] God this was the worst video I've ever done okay now that we have the results did you want to ask your questions well I've been asking them along apparently you just see a rainbow as you read a book but why can't you be somewhat interest why is everything with you defensive I think sure full of is interesting it's certainly interesting that you see colors when you look at words or letters or numbers or hear music so when someone's talking you hear color too sometimes when I'm speaking like for example I learned French and Spanish easier because some phrases are so similar to Italian that you start to see repeating colors so that's like how I was like you catch on to language fast well this was a fun video I
