Masks and Tracking - Day to Night - Color Finale 2 Essential

in this video we will create a day to night effect with color finales masking and tracking tools you will need a copy of color finale 2.2 pro and a licensed version of final cut pro 10. apply color finale to your clip shot in daylight and change the look to dark bluish in the corrections tab in the layers panel add a color wheels layer and drag lift and gamma points towards the blue and again towards the green reduce the master and the saturation for gamma and gain and the overall saturation for this layer create a new group and click on the mask icon draw an ellipse shape around the cars inside the group add a color wheels and hsl curves layer and adjust the settings to further change the look to dark bluish so it looks as if the shot was created at night increase the feathering of the ellipse so it blends in with the rest of the shot now we'll track the shape so it follows the cars as we're at the start of the clip we must only track forward rename the group to ellipse and go back to the first frame headlights need to look as if they've been turned on we do that by creating another new group and again click the mask icon select another ellipse shape from the toolbar to adjust the first headlight reduce the mask opacity and increase feathering so the shape blends in with the headlight track forward again the headlights mask should be transparent enough to show the structure of the glass and reflector you'll have to repeat the process for every headlight in the clip by the way we're changing the feathering and transparency in the hud but color finale lets you change those from the color finale panel as well if you prefer we also need to make a light cone so we will create another group and this time we will draw a bezier path [Music] adjust its feathering and opacity and track forward again finally when you're happy with the look for the lights cone you can fine tune the sky with an edge mask to do this create the last group and add an inverted edge mask to make the sky more realistic color finale can be purchased directly online you can also download a free trial that has all the features but only runs for seven days creating luts is supported by the pro version only thank you for watching and please subscribe to our channel for the latest updates on color finale products
