son of a Mario Kart we maintaining the tradition of those before it this entry into the kart racing series has some awesome tricks up its sleeve but first here's some minor glitches that you might find interesting whenever you finish a Time Trial and go on to a Grand Prix race the character icons on the course map remain bigger than they should in this type of race here's a side-by-side comparison with the large icons on the left and the small icons on the right this is due to how the game sets the size of these icons during a time trial race we're usually the only other racer on the track is the ghost when the game initially starts up all icons are set to a standard size which then gets up scaled for time trials but then when you exit time trials that scale isn't reset the only way to get them back to the correct size is to reset the game entirely this kind of memory storage is useful in other ways if two players want to play is the same character player one must select the character of choice cancel the selection and move their cursor for player two to select that same character and then they also have to cancel the selection then pressing B to return to the previous screen you have to choose a mode to get back to the character selection screen now you'll notice that both cursors are on the same character so simply press a to confirm and then you can both play as the same character this has some pretty funny side effects in the vehicle selection screen the position of the character relative to the vehicle they're supposed to be in is based on their only being one of that particular character on-screen but seen as there are two of the same character it throws the animation of both out of sync depending on the character this can give some pretty humorous results yeah I'm not sure that's how you drive that Daisy if you go into a two player solo race with both players selecting either peach Daisy or Rosalina and then one uses a Kart while the other uses a bike when you get to the winner's podium the wrong outfit will be worn for at least one of the characters like in this example one of these peaches should be wearing the bike outfit and not a dress also whenever both players use the same character when a race or battle is over during a course selection player twos cart will be invisible hey this kind of looks like the opening to the game there's also a way to get your Me's head on a character at the winner's podium begin a multiplayer battle choose coin runners challenge and then both select the same character using the glitch now play the coin runners challenge and win all rounds and when you get to the podium you'll have your head on a racer that's not the prettiest thing ever similar to how selecting two of the same character works you can use this same principle to get the properties of the fake item boxes in solo races select a multiplayer versus race and then a team race choose a character each and then make sure you're on opposite teams now when you get to the team's screen return all the way back to the vs. screen to choose a solo race and then reselect the characters you previously chose now just choose a course to race in and go hunting for fake item boxes and when you place a fake item box in the course it'll be the same color as the team you chose earlier of course a blue fake item box and really be in solo races but the properties of this item is carried through despite the player canceling the team race mode and choosing solo race instead the blue fake item box be --have the same as the red for those curious so only the color of the item is affected okay with the weirdest ethic stuff out of the way let's get into actually racing here's an awesome trick you can use in mario circuit which involves a wool clipping technique using a bike but before we break it down let's see what this clip actually looks like as you can see we get sent up into the air and land on the other side of the track these kinds of track skips are known as ultras the most extreme kinds of shortcut when the race begins backtrack to this tree and line yourself up like this the lineup is pretty precise not exact but there are only a few angles that this works and the character you use may vary results too so always bear that in mind now reverse back up to the center line in the road here we need to wheelie by flicking the Wiimote upwards and then immediately use one of our mushrooms to boost us forward while we're at an upwards angle due to the wheelie because of this angle when we clip the tree we're knocked upwards at speed and this sends us over the top to the other side of the track to get this lap to count we need to turn around and go inside the tunnel then drive into the wall which will activate a key trigger informing the game of our position in the lab then we simply need to carry on the lap as normal where you can pass over the finish line to start lap two but if you want to get really crazy use another shroom to repeat the trick in exactly the same way clipping the tree and going over the top to the other side of the track now when you go in the tunnel lap two will begin and you can repeat the trick a third time to get an awesome new record okay so the angle is key on this one on wall Clips like this work because you just barely touch the wall you bounce off and the knock back you get is amplified with the speed at which you hit the wall and the height you achieve is down to the upwards angle of a wheelie which is why you need a bike while the wall clip with the car is theoretically possible they're unable to wheelie so their angle is severely limited practice makes perfect with wall clips and this one in SNES ghost valley 2 is no exception at the start of the race drive forward onto the starting line and then turn right line up with this pillar so that you face the top corner of the checkered pattern directly or imagine a center line that runs from the top corner to the middle of your racers head this should give you the angle to wall clip now we need to wheelie and then shroom to angle us upwards from the wall knock back if you've got the clip you'll sail all the way over to the other side of the track it's a neat trick although this wall clip will only save you time with quick execution otherwise you may as well drive around to the other side normally getting a bad angle will send you up in the air but it won't give you the distance to make it to the other side so line up well and you'll nail it there is a cool tree clip in peach Beach but honestly I just couldn't get this one but I thought I'd mention it for the sake of covering all bases but here's a cool ultra short cut in Bowser's Castle at this part of the track with a giant Bowser statue you can use a half pipe in a mushroom to send you upwards and through a wall with no collision to land on a higher part of the track to do this go right at the split and then as you approach the ramp begin a turn to the right aiming for the top right-hand corner of the half pane as you make the turn and hit the boost panel use a mushroom to give you enough speed to fire you up the ramp and then through the wall above the angle of the approach is pretty crucial to the shortcut and as you can see coming into the turn too aggressively puts you in an awkward position and you'll miss the wall completely if you're looking to get a ridiculous time to our record in grumble volcano here's a very simple ultra shortcut that skips 90 percent of the key checkpoints but still counts as a full lap at the start line drive forwards and turn left here we're gonna line up with the wedge in the rock face so the point where the two edges meet is directly above our head we need to wheelie and then shroom and this should put us on top of the rock once here we need to drive around the top of the rock and hit certain points as we go around the first point is this small bump so drive over it and then head left go around the rock side and be careful not to fall off keep going around until you reach this small pyramid shaped bump right over it and go left to reach the very first small bump you win / as you can see that's one lap counted so then just repeat these steps this one is an odd shortcut because it really shouldn't work but it does by driving around the rock you trigger the checkpoints that tell the game you've completed a lap it's possible that the reason this works is that a key lap triggers on the other side of the map are somehow programmed to extend over to this side as when you line up those key checkpoints they cross roughly where you need to drive on the rock hey it's a theory if you wanted to perform this trick in an actual race when the race begins backtrack and fall into the lava and you'll be placed before the jump behind the finish line move here to line up with a corner of the ramp and then charge up a mini turbo by holding the brake and accelerator at the same time release the brake and as you boost forward and leave the ramp flick the Wiimote to perform a trick to land on the rock and then drive around the rock hitting the checkpoints to make the lap count lap triggers can be weird sometimes as you'll see in yoshu Falls if you drive around the lap normally until you reach this point and then steer right wheely and then shroom off the edge you'll need to get a lot of distance from that fall and when you're placed back on the track go around the course backwards immediately you'll notice that lakitu isn't telling you to turn around which is usually the case when you go the wrong way around a course then when you approach the finish line from the wrong side the lap count changes one of the best ways to mess with the lap counter and checkpoint triggers is in Wario's gold mine when the race begins drive over to the right side with the rocky texture and then turn using the brake and accelerator as if you're charging a mini turbo facing out toward the green pipe in the distance past the bridge do a wheelie and then shroom to land on top of the green pipe you'll fall out of bounds and then be placed on the railroad bridge before the final turn to the finish line now simply turn around and head to the tunnel and similar to the lap trigger in Mario circuit drive at this area of the fence and that will mark the checkpoint now just head for the finish line and you'll have completed a lap there is a more optimal way to do this shortcut but it's so ridiculous it's insane it involves a trick called the pipe bounce where if you wheelie shroom and then hop left as you drive off the edge you'll get an angle that if you hit this area of the green pipe you'll bounce so high off the pipe that will go through the tracks and can trigger the lap count and still have your mushrooms but as you can see after a lot of attempts I just couldn't go through the road and I cave so close I even tried with different characters but I just couldn't get any of them to stick the landing either way it's a cool trick if you can do it and it is very possible I just didn't want to be 90 years old by the time this episode was finished anyway moving on here's a lap skipping mushroom Gorge that isn't completely impossible we'll try the slightly harder method first which involves starting off the race and then turning left here to face the bouncy mushroom below shroom and then trick off the left side of the mushroom to hit the rock face whilst tilting the Wiimote upwards to wheelie and also holding down and slightly left on the analogue if you're using the nunchuck when you land on the rock face hold down and slightly right on the analogue and hopefully you should be riding the wall around to the other side this close camera view is a good indication that you got the trick when you arrive at the other side you should hopefully trigger a checkpoint to make the lap count so then just head for the finish line this shortcut works because of the strange physics caused by the bouncy mushrooms if the player performs a trick on a mushroom the game will push the character forwards and then if there's a wall in the way the character is forced upwards instead knowing this we can use these wolf physics to go around the outside of the cave and land at the other end where the final key checkpoint is triggered the easier method to the shortcut is to drive a bit further up the course and then turn left before the bridge and then shroom to get to the bouncy mushroom and then trick off it to reach the rock face once again doing a wheelie and holding the analogue down left and then down right once you're on the wall you can make it around the outside and then land at the other end if you ever get this situation where you slide downwards and then hit an invisible wall you'll start going upwards to make it to the other side this isn't the correct way to do the trick but as long as you drive part way into the cave you'll cross the trigger and make the lap count and sometimes the lap won't trigger which will only cost you more time this is what the trick looks like from a distance so you get an idea of the movement across the wall it's possible to drive directly up the wall and if you land like this you can trigger the lapped account the full supply to your forward momentum is enough for you to ride straight up the rock face but doing so probably won't result in much in DK mountain it's possible to glitch straight through this halfpipe for a small shortcut as you approach the end of the blue boost pads use a mushroom and then as you're about to hit the fence drift to the right and you should go straight through the gap between the boosts and the fence this area has another glitch that makes you fall out of bounds if you trick at the right time on this set of boosts the speed of the trick is enough to bypass the collision with a fence and the floor meet and you'll fall into the void maple treeway has some interesting out-of-bounds stuff at this part of the track before the giant net you can turn to face this sign and then slowly move towards the edge by repeatedly tapping the a and B buttons at the same time as if you're doing a mini turbo if you do this fast at the very edge the bike should fall below without being rescued by lakitu once you're down here the ground is mostly solid up to a point of course the buildings aren't solid as you're never supposed to be down here in regular play and because the ground plane texture is only shaded one way you can see through the floor it's always cool to be out of bounds in an area like this but by far and large the best out-of-bounds stuff in Mario Kart Wii is in coconut mall and there are plenty of ways to get out of bounds in this course - method one involves getting to this escalator and then riding up the side of it like this and then once you get to this point use the accelerator and brake to turn to the right and line up the bike once you're aligned let go of the brake and then wheelie and shroom if you land the bike on this part of the rail you should clip through it and land out-of-bounds this area here is the entry point and any of the methods you use as long as you hit this area you're in Method 2 involves being at the bottom of the escalator rail and charging a mini turbo whilst being aligned with the purple banner in the background when you're ready release the mini turbo and go forward hit the entry point and you'll be in this is actually how this out-of-bounds was discovered but getting the correct alignment can be tricky so it may take a few attempts for method 3 take a right through the store and then turn around on this spot at the corner of the dark title and then line up so you face the green banner ahead charge a mini turbo and then release it and you should get knocked out of bounds when you hit the rail method 4 is easily the coolest looking and once you get it down isn't as tricky as it looks when you arrive at the top of the very first escalator keep going directly forward parallel to this rail and then begin a drift to the right here carry the drift around and then aim for these two dark grey lines hit the small ramp and then trick while still holding right if your angle is correct you'll fall and land on the entry point and out-of-bounds this is easily my favorite method of the bunch because once you get it it's a real feel-good trick to pull off sometimes you'll hit the rail and go nowhere like this and while it's still possible to get the clip like this by angling the bike downwards and hopping it's not very likely if you end up in this room when you first clip out you'll find all the walls are solid and you won't be going anywhere but keep venturing around and you'll find this wall here isn't solid and there's a very small LEDs that you can negotiate to get to the real outbound stuff just be very careful not to fall off once you clip through the rail head right in through this black void area to get to the parking lot and here we can go through some triggers to make the lap count and get an awesome time trial record when you first arrive in the parking lot go through this curb and pass the palm tree and then through another curb then begin drifting right and go through the car another trigger that will make the lap count head for the finish line but don't clip back in bounds instead stay on the green and then drive back onto the parking lot as you can see we've made the lap count so now we just have to repeat the pattern to get all three laps in record time the part of the beginning is key to making the laps count there's a solid part of collision here that if you cross it from right to left it will register the lap crossing through the collision incorrectly won't make the lap count at all so follow this path like so crossing from right to left you'll hear a bonk as you pass through the kerb then drift through the car into the green and then trigger the land well that's business taken care of what else is there to see in this huge out-of-bounds area the floor of the main part of this track despite being a black void is solid so you're free to move about in this area you can see the backside of the stores here and drive through two paths like this that are usually hidden away although some areas are void that kill the fun you can drive all the way out to the far left side of the course which is kind of cool to be in a place where you wouldn't usually be able to get to I'd never even thought about what stuff was outside the main course you can hang out with these guys although of course they're non solid characters that you can drive through the course obviously only goes out so much and when you reach the edges you fall into the void and you'll have your out-of-bounds adventures cut short I wish you could drive down to that beach that would be awesome this is the first out-of-bounds glitch I've ever seen that kind of feels like a game within a game but there you have it some awesome tricks and glitches you guys can try out in Mario Kart Wii and if you like this episode hit that like button share it with everyone you know and love but most importantly please subscribe if you want to see more from the series head over to the Facebook page for the show I post updates and sneak peeks that upcoming episodes and keep you guys in the know about all things son of a glitch or you guys can follow me on Twitter and keep updated that way also I stream on
