Mario Kart DS Glitches - Son of a Glitch - Episode 94

[Music] mario kart DS the third best-selling Nintendo DS game well according to the Wikipedia now i would argue that mario kart DS is not the most broken mario kart game but stick around cuz boy have I got some things to show you so let's kick things off with this very first glitch which is incredibly simple at the beginning of any race get off to a bad start by pressing a to accelerate on the three at the countdown now as the engine blows out press a and B together and any direction and the Kart will now spin around 360 as your characters are hums flail in the air is it a pointless glitch yeah is it hilarious to look at absolutely an X glitch is also a simple one during a race if you choose to quit out there's usually a brief period of time where you're still in control before it kicks you back to the title screen and during this time the game is not supposed to play any music or sound effects however if you have a star and you manage to activate it during this brief window it will stop playing the music for the star and then the title screen will appear it's nothing huge or game-breaking but it's definitely a weird thing that the game does this next glitch takes place in desert hills and this is probably the easiest way to see this one usually when you drive a cart into water you see a splash as you'd expect but as you can see if you manage to clip the wall as you hit the surface you won't actually see the splash animation and you'll simply just fall through the water and you can see the exact same kind of thing in Delfino square where if you drive off this ledge and hit the water there'll be a splash but if you go more towards these buildings and you hit the water no splash and now you've fallen to hood Dark Void pretty sure that's not supposed to happen speaking of things that aren't supposed to happen if you go to Bowser's Castle in versus mode at the beginning of the race you'll see that you are very clearly in 8th position but the game seems to be a little bit confused and thinks you are in 7th position listen Nintendo I don't know how to break this to you but that's not how numbers work luckily when you are actually in 8th place everything kind of returns back to normal but yep I'm in 8th place over the cheap cheap beach now and here's a glitch involving a rock not the rock just it a rock it's a rock now usually if you drive on to this part of the beach Laki to will kind of pick you up and say no no what are you doing you it's not how it works however if you drive against this rock all the way around for some reason lakitu won't actually pick you up and put you away you belong he'll this kind of he'll chill out somewhere while you kind of cozy up to this rock but the second you let go of the rock like it sees like hey remember me yeah get back on the beach this next glitch we're gonna take a look at takes place in sky gun and more specifically involves this ramp now the funny thing about this ramp is you can actually hop on the edge of it and for some reason you kind of hang in the air there so the point where you can actually do full donuts on the very edge of it like why is this a thing I've no idea why this happens but I tell you something is pretty fun you know if you really like that kind of thing why not head over to Pike Plaza here you can hop off the side of these graded platforms that are higher than everything else and land on the very edge of the arena and kind of drive around the outskirts of it whilst in the end you really have to hug the very walls of this otherwise if you don't you'll land back on the ground where you belong and that's the end of that fun in tick tock clock you'll no doubt have noticed the giant cogs that go round and round just before the finish line well something completely random you can do is if you use a mushroom to boost over to these cogs what will happen is as you hit it you'll be boosted through the floor and then land back where you should be as you'd expect this is completely useless but hey it's a lot of fun just to pop through the floor you know there's something I don't quite trust about this snowman in DK pass well I mean you guys are all right it's this guy if you bump into him at just the right angle he'll knock you out of bounds and sadly there's not really much to this in fact lakitu does picked you up and puts you straight back on the track which honestly is really sad because this has to be the easiest out-of-bounds glitch ever one of the more widely known glitches in mario kart DS is the one in Luigi's Mansion leading into the mansion is a set of stairs that if you stop dead on at any point and then press a and B in any direction to drift in place you'll actually crash the game now this very strange glitch occurs because the KCl ID for the stairs is tied to a sound effect that doesn't actually exist in the sound data for the game and more interestingly this glitch doesn't actually work on any emulator or on the Wii U Virtual Console version of the game but honestly this has to go down in history as one of the easiest crashes in any game remember your games are fragile be kind to them if you have some glitches you want to show me they drop moving on now to Bowser's Castle and this has to be one of the glitziest stages in the game honestly for instance right at the beginning of the course is this ramp that if you use a mushroom to boost and then hop at the end of it you'll jump an invisible wall and then end up in a hot pool of lava I believe the expression is out of the frying pan and into the fire or lava in this case one of the most prominent features in this course is this giant metal rotating log type thing that gets you from one side of the course to the other but it also has some other uses spoiler alert it's glitches if you position yourself on this side of the log and then shroom and hop from it you can actually go through a wall which has zero collision and end up yet again in a pool of lava each time I see it just looks more and more painful and if you position yourself on this side of the log and do the exact same thing you'll land on a piece of geometry that's not usually accessible yeah this one's really pointless almost as pointless as being able to shroom and then hop and land on this piece of the wall and then hop on to it and now you're on top of this piece of wall it's just it's just another piece of wall why would you do this before we leave Bowser's Castle there's one more glitch we have to do which is probably one of the most famous mario kart es glitches there is and that's the spinning floor glitch this one's real simple all you have to do is get on this spinning floor and kind of back up or go forward or whatever direction you want to go kind of nudge yourself up against this ledge and boom you're kind of skewed and it's weird look at us doing a wheelie popping a wheelie just sticking sticking our face up in the air not supposed to do that here's something that developers probably never expected you to ever find in Bowser's Castle to make your way to this launch ramp and then kind of drive yourself sideways on top of it whilst trying to hop and it's very difficult to do but it's possible to get on top of this wall now if you actually managed to get yourself on top of this wall and didn't pull your hair out congratulations now you can pull off the rest of this drive all the way along the length of this wall and then simply turn at the end of it and drive off and you should land on is an invisible piece of collision that's hovering above the lava yeah I have no idea why this is here but love a Donuts baby this seems very not safe what do you know it wasn't safe heading on over to Yoshi circuit now and a kind of funny glitch that happens we're lakitu firstly what you want to do is at the start of the race drive to this fence and then simply drive into the water just around here what should now happen is lakitu will place you just before the finish line and this is where you just simply turn around and start driving backwards around the course the first thing you should notice is that lakitu isn't bothering you there's no lakitu in sight in fact you can drive a good way around the course backwards and you won't be bothered at all until you reach the tunnel that is where lakitu decides oh hey whoa what are you doing lakitu seems pretty pushy this episode once you leave the other end of the tunnel then simply turn around and drive the correct way around the course and once again lakitu is back all right ahead hole up what do you what are you doing I'm going the right way around the course what do you want from me it seems our little cloud friend has gotten a little bit confused he seems to believe that the right way is the wrong way in the wrong way is the right way I don't even know but he's confused now I've had mixed results with this glitch apparently what's supposed to happen is once you drive over the finish line you're supposed to enter lap 2 however I found though that really depends on whereabouts you turn around after the tunnel and if you turn around further enough down the track what will happen is lakitu won't actually show up again but when you cross the finish line it will actually count as lap 2 I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I thought I'd tell you guys in case you try it and something doesn't happen and you're basically like he tells lies anyway have fun confusing the heck out of latitude while we're still in Yoshi circuit there's another little glitch we can try out you want to drive to this part of the course what we have this white brick wall begin driving towards this slope and then use a mushroom to boost and then hop at the last second and hopefully you'll land just on this green hill above the tunnel entrance and what will happen next is you'll fall through the course this one may take a few tries to get down with the timing and everything but once you do it you'll be treated to this cool out-of-bounds glitch and be prepared to see more of this kind of thing because there's a lot of it in this game are you ready okay head to Luigi suck it in time trials and then once the race begins turned directly around you'll see this rent just like in Yoshi circuit begin driving towards this ramp boost and then hop at the right time and hopefully you should go over an invisible wall and land out of bounds into a big void again we there we go falling to certain death has never been so fun a similar glitch but this one's actually useful this time takes place in wario stadium drive to this part of the course with the three huge hills with the boosts on top of them and once you land from these what you're gonna do is drive towards these smaller humps now you need to hop and then a practically frame-perfect second hop should give you enough lift to land out of bounds and if you do this correctly you should be placed just before the finish line which is super useful as it cuts out the last couple of turns of the course I mean it's not a huge time-saver anything it just kind of looks pretty swag and isn't that what really matters now this hopping of small hills is kind of a theme for a little bit so stick with me on this one for this next glitch you're gonna want to head to Chaco mountain with the shooting star as it's very fast and very light and it's probably the only one that can pull off this trick now this is very similar in concept to what we just saw in Wario stadium once you reach this part of the course you're gonna drive up this hill and then shroom near the top aiming to land on the second mound as close to the left-hand side of that wall as you can as you're about to hit the second hill you need to pull off a practically frame-perfect hop to the left and if you do this correctly you should have enough height and speed to clear this wall and land on the track below what is this achieve absolutely nothing but it looks cool as heck in all honesty it is completely pointless and it's gonna take you a good couple of tries to get this but hey it's a lot of fun when you actually do get it oh wait what's that you want some more out-of-bounds well head on to DK pass and then go to this ramp now if you can manage to go off the left side is ramp as far as you can there's another spot where it's possible to fall through the world as you can see there's a part of this ground that's not actually solid so if you can fall through it well hey presto you've fallen out of bounds again okay now it's time for an out-of-bounds that's really fun because you can actually explore with this one heads of Mario circuit and then drive around the course with a mushroom to this point you'll see there's a very small hill with a wall in front of it and what we're gonna do is screw up Hill and then hop and try to land on top of this wall the trickiest part of this is actually landing just on the edge of the wall and here we need to hop just enough to land on top of it without falling off if you successfully managed to land on top of this wall without falling off you can either turn around on top of it or simply reverse off like I did and now you're completely out of bounds now a quick word of warning the walls in this game or one sided collision deal so basically very difficult to get out but very easy to drive back in bounds so basically don't drive through any walls that are supposed to keep you in bounds because the second you do you'll have to do the entire trick all over again okay so now we got that out of the way we can just go around and explore I won't spoil it too much for anybody who wants to try this out themselves but some things you can expect to see out here are some bushes that you can drive through in fact most of the things out here you can drive through I think really this is the only true experience of out of bounds in this game which is sad because there's some really interesting courses that I'd love to go out of bounds but most of the time when you do that you just fall through the world so enjoy this one because it's a lot of fun speaking of fun and out-of-bounds let's head to waluigi pinball in this course very famously and obviously you'll see these pin balls shooting around trying to hit the bumpers now if you can position yourself on one of these bumpers at the time one of these pin balls hits you can actually get some pretty magical results most of the time you're just gonna get knocked all the way up the pinball table but sometimes you'll be in just at the right spot and you'll get launched so high up in the air you'll actually be carried out of bounds if you hold in that direction and when you do actually get out of bounds it takes the game a good long while to realize you're in trouble and you need bringing back to the course this was a lot of fun to play around just to see what kind of different results you'll get but get your space suits and helmets ready folks cuz we are going on a journey now what you're about to see has to be seen to be believed it's no secret that the loops and corkscrews in Rainbow Road are kind of glitchy but nothing can prepare you for the adventure we're about to go on I'd recommend trying this glitch with a smaller vehicle like the egg one and I've obviously chosen toad and what you want to do is drive to this part of the course as you approach this corkscrew you want to begin a drift to the left and now continuously match the Arbonne you want to actually hit the fence whilst mashing the AH button but you also want your characters back to the fence now I won't lie to you this is incredibly difficult to actually get right but if you do do it right what will happen is your character will kind of fall through the fence but under the track where there's no gravity so essentially what's happening is you're just falling even Laki to try as he might cannot rescue you as you continue falling there's nothing programmed down here to tell the game to warp you back to the course and as an added beautiful bonus you have full movement so basically you can go wherever you want you are now towed in space you can go and see the Stars you can basically go to the very edge of the skybox the only restriction is if you somehow manage to hit a kill plane which does warp you back to the course and your fun is over and you have to do the whole thing again but this right here is my favorite glitch in the entire game it's really difficult to pull off but if you manage it it's gonna be amazing but that about wraps it up guys there are some amazing glitches in mario kart DS you guys can try out have fun thank you so so much for sticking through this episode till the very end
