hey guys it's Erica and today we're going to be discussing more anta's now Miranda's are in the family of prayer plants along with Cola Thea's and they're very similar except in my opinion Maran toes are so much easier to care for than Khalif eeeh they have a lot of similar care requirements but Maran toes are so much less fussy and just a lot less dramatic and problematic then acally fee is so it's an easy plan to take care of but you have to be pretty vigilant with your care for them they're not a plant that you can just forget about and it will be okay if you are a plant parent who tends to love on their plants a little bit too much you kind of overwater more often than underwater this is a perfect plant for you and I think I think you'd love her Miranda Miranda are pretty easy to care for but they are a little bit more needy than say like a pathos or philodendron they do need it a little bit more extra care and then those plants do generally they like to have higher humidity and they'll kind of get crispy if the area they're in is not humid enough so you do want to make sure that you have a humid environment for them they tend to do well in bathrooms because those are kind of humid if you have enough sunlight in there for plants if you live in a very dry area then I wouldn't recommend this plant for you unless you have a humidifier other than that they can be in low light to highlight areas although there are gonna do as well in a low light situation as they would do in a medium to high light situation for example I have a Miranda here and you can see it has these gorgeous luscious gigantic leaves here and these looks so good but these leaves were created by the plant when it was in a brighter light situation these came from when I moved this plant from a low light spot to my grow lights and over here these little measly leaves are what the plant grew when it was in a low light situation these are from what I have the plant in a north-facing window so you can see there is a clear distinction on the size of the leaves the the coloring of the leaves and does look a lot happier when it's in a brighter light area but like I said they can grow in a low light situation it's just not gonna be as full and luscious as if you give it you know the light it wants so I mention that it keeps some of our ranches under the grow light I showed you this example but if you have a variegated Moran 'te I would suggest to keep those in natural sunlight if possible because I found that the grow lights kind of change alter the variation of the plants it will maybe change the color from a really nice white to a kind of yellowish color sometimes it even makes the variegation go away so you can try it out if you want to but otherwise I would say keep it in natural light if possible so you might notice that this plant is kind of closed off and it looks like it's not very full and open and that is because I'm filming this video at night and the reason that these plants are called prayer plants is because at night time their leaves will start to close and fold up it's actually pretty cool to see the plants move you can visibly see the plant close it flow leaves get its little prayer hands together moving on to watering requirements these plants do not like to dry out I don't recommend letting these plants dry out I'm someone who often lets my plants dry out but these ones these should not you should not let these plants dry out because they will start to get crispy edges their bees will potentially start curling in for example my lemon lime you can see these leaves curled in and that is because they are not getting enough water and it's very clear the reason is because this branch actually broke so they are literally not getting any water so this is how your plant will start to curl up if it doesn't if it needs more water but I would not recommend waiting until your plant starts curling up before you water it a lot of times I will say if you're unsure you can wait until your plant looks like it needs water before you water it for this one if it looks like it needs water you should take note of how long it took before it went got to that point and then try to water before it gets that point again because consistently under watering your plant it's gonna start to show your your leaves are gonna start getting crispy and the plant is just not gonna grow as beautifully as it could to help keep the soil moist for these plants I would recommend potting them in a ceramic pot or plastic pots and unless you're a very heavy overwater I wouldn't recommend putting it into a clay pot or terracotta this plant for example I have in a terracotta pot and I need to water it every three to four days to make sure that it doesn't it doesn't suffer from dehydration so unless you really want to be giving your plants attention constantly then I would definitely put these into a ceramic or a plastic pot and it's gonna make your life a lot easier unless you really love to water it then definitely put it into a play or terracotta pot you're gonna be watering it all the time that also kind of brings us to the soil situation so this plant is actually a propagation that I recently potted and I just put it into a soil mix that I make I'll put it up on the screen you could use any soil that you buy as long as it's very kind of light and airy and if you feel like the soil that you bought isn't airy enough you can add in some pearl lights and should help it out even though you don't want this plant to completely dry out you also don't want to give its oil that's gonna be so compacted and mushy and just holds way too much water because it can still get root rot so you kind of want to find that happy medium so we've covered that this plant likes to have high humidity and it doesn't like to dry out and let's just talk about some common problems about this plant because although it is pretty easy to care for once you get it down there are some little problems that you'll find that can you can kind of tweak how you're caring for your plant in order to kind of fix those problems so you might notice some crispy tips such as this one maybe you're not using distilled or filtered water and that could be a reason that your tips are crisping like that another reason can be that the plant needs more humidity and the air is too dry for it or it could possibly mean that you need to water your plant more often I just want to distinguish what you're doing right and then maybe changing one factor and see how that affects your plant like we covered before curled leaves such as these mean chronic under watering so you definitely want to give the plant more water and then sometimes your plant might look like this kind of like the color might be fading a little bit this could mean that your plant is getting too much sunlight for it has spider mites which is the case for this poor little plant right here it's recovered now but it did have spider mites at one point spider mites are the most common pests for miranne toes and the funny thing is that spider mites thrive in conditions that are dry and these plants love to be moist so if you put it in a humid area you just shouldn't have to worry about spider mites if you water your plants on time you shouldn't have to worry about spider mites lighter leaves could mean too much sunlight or you might have a pest problem if your plant is really high be it's in such great conditions and it's living its best life it might reward you with some flowers the flowers aren't necessarily very showy or anything like that this plant has some flowers that recently died off they tend to pop up in the springtime let me see if I can find them so here we go we got some flowers right here they could be pink they I'm sorry that could be white they could be a little purplish pinkish and then we have some ones that are spat right here so it's really nice to see flowers that's kind of like a reward for taking care of your plant even if you take care of your plant super well you might not see flowers but it's just kind of you know a nice thing to see and they're not really showy or anything they're just little small flowers but it's really nice when you notice them growing up finally we can talk about propagation of this plant and propagation is actually super super easy pretty much just cut below node stick it in water let it root and then you can transfer it over to soil since my lemon-lime morant a-- has snapped i'm going to be demonstrating on this plant luckily it has snapped right below a node which is perfect because that's where we would want to cut this right here is a node and it has snapped below that node so I'm going to take my cut there boom and stick this in water hopefully it hasn't been snapped for too long and it can recover and root and we're just gonna place this in water like this and I like to stick as many nodes into the water as possible so you can see there's a bunch of nodes in here and nodes are basically where the leaves grow so if you see they're kind of knobby we just leave this in here and I'm gonna put this in a North facing window hopefully it will root I'm not entirely sure because this does look like it's been suffering for quite a while like I mentioned before this was a propagation that I took and I routed it in water and I transferred it over to soil and it's doing pretty well when you transfer your Miranda over to soil you definitely want to never let the soil dry out like from ranches you don't want to let the soil dry out anyways but for a propagation from water into soil you definitely do not want to let the soil dry out at all so I believe that covers everything that I wanted to cover here in this video if you have any questions or you have any tips maybe there's something that I left out feel free to share them in the comments below or ask your question in the comment below otherwise that is it for today's video thank you guys so much for watching and I will see you in the next one bye
