Man, West Virginia: A Town Filled With Hillbillies and a Few Women, Despite the Name

hey guys this video is about man west virginia and i think i forgot to mention the video i know i didn't mention the guy in dot river because i couldn't pronounce it back then i don't think and also um the the name man came from ulysses henchman i think he's pronounced henchmen it could be hunchman i guess h-i-n-c-h henchman he was a local physician and he worked he was in the house of delegates for a while and unfortunately as you'll find out this little gal right here would not be welcome in demand west virginia tough luck kid better luck next time maybe there's a town for you called little girls west virginia maybe can you say hi i hope you enjoyed this it's been seen 700 000 times in um between facebook and youtube so there's a lot of interest in the town at the next census it'll have less than 700 people in it so that just shows you the ongoing popularity of some of these cold towns but then again let me let's enjoy the video ladies and gentlemen this is shane simmons from the appalachian project and you wouldn't be able to tell it just by looking i wouldn't imagine but i'm in the most sexist town in the united states that's right i'm in man west virginia so we better enjoy that name while we can and probably change to gender neutral here at some point i'm here at the mann high school one place where no one is offended when you call them the hillbilly because that is the school mascot the man hillbillies and up ahead there's some very interesting little town all kinds of history here too as usual most of these places that i go to uh that's kind of sad to see this dilapidated health center really looks like it doesn't look all that old and it's completely abandoned all the windows were busted looks like a little piece of history itself at this point so i guess i'll man up and go through this town i don't think any other ponds usually good at that but today i'm just not feeling it i don't know i didn't sleep very well last night i guess anyway man is in logan west virginia logan county west virginia and it is uh populations about somewhere in the vicinity of 750 people it's part of the hatfield mccoy trail too so you'll see um atvs and a lot of outdoor activities in the town these days getting ready actually now i'm in south man even better as a southern man i feel more at home than i have in a long time so we got the first baptist church here on the left nice little brick building really nice residential area right through here and i went across buffalo creek and if that name sounds familiar it is because through from here in logan county there was a horrific buffalo creek flood that happened back in the 1970s we need to do a post to hear on tap about that in the future it was a horrible disaster it ended up flooding out 16 different cold towns if i'm not mistaken and caused all kinds of destruction and death and it's just a terrible terrible terrible thing these folks to deal with looks like i might be getting stopped by a coal train myself right here i don't see it coming so we'll cut into the back side here like a lot of these towns man is very crowded upon itself the downtown areas features quite a bit of older buildings post office up here on the right the fire pit restaurant on here right across from the fire department so hey that makes sense kind of a unique in its downtown areas and the residential area kind of bleeds together here go back through here here's the man church of the nazarene some man clothing furniture and appliance gino's h r block so we got a few little things down through here just want to give you a shot of man west virginia this is whatever no man's land ends this is the opposite of it this is man's land we'll head up out and on down the road and i will see you on the next video if you enjoyed these videos please subscribe to our youtube channel like share comment on facebook go to our website click on a few ads to give us a few cents hey gotta pay the gas bill anyway i will check you out on the next video
