making a fool of myself on the internet take 307. hey everybody so not too long ago i did writing metal without hearing it that sounds way different than i thought it would this one i think is far more likely to be a disaster i want to try to write beautiful music without listening to it instead of last time where i wrote the music within a program and recorded it later now i'm going to write and record the music and i just won't be able to hear it so i have noise cancelling headphones i have what i'm actually recording muted and then in my headphones i have a metronome to keep me on beat and this so um yeah so i will be unable to hear anything my idea for the song is to do a lot with the acoustic guitar try to make it a beautiful song i'm going to have some bass and then as well as sing in it [Laughter] which is it's i mean which is real things are really gonna go off the rails i anticipate do you have perfect pitch rob no and in fact when we did that musician test in sweden with joel andrew and dave we did a test where you could see if you knew the intervals 6.3 hertz apart which means you are not normal not even like average musician just average population but i'm gonna try my best all right let's get into it oh no the beanie gets in the way well if i do like that it looks kind of weird though it does maybe i need to find another hat that's not bad yeah i look like i'm about to do the news my ears are totally cupped i can hear it just a little bit turn it up so i might need to turn this up it's like just below this is painful yeah at this point i can't hear it i it's funny because as i'm playing i can hear it in my head but just there i changed the key and in my head the key didn't change like i can strum random chords and imagine another progression and it's almost like i hear it but i know that i'm not doing it to me that sounded lovely so i'm going to start with the acoustic then i'm going to be in the key of g because that's what i'm most comfortable with i'm going to use a just a pattern that i've used in a bunch of songs that i'm really really confident with but transitioning out of it is going to be pretty difficult starting recordings [Music] okay because i need to have them like fresh in my head i'll probably move on to the other guitar part [Music] there's a part of that right at the end that i'm imagining sounds pretty cool but it's the part that i'm not so comfortable with i need to name these dramatic a i'm gonna do the same exact thing but harmonize it in a way that i know should work because it's just going up the third and then i can use the song structure later wait wait wait yeah okay [Music] wait let me think about this don't you can't listen to it i can't listen to it but i can look at it so if i do this and if i'm harmonizing to here that would yeah that would be the octave so i think so far this is already a dramatic harmony part and i think we can do another acoustic that builds on this idea this is already getting so confusing and this is the part where i was confident about it okay [Music] should i have this note in there i'm gonna do it again [Music] this part up to here is dramatic build up and i believe i hit all the right notes but then after doing that it made sense for me to just start walking down chromatically the chromatic just seemed to build up to a g which is the key that we're in so this is going to be the ending of the song i think i need to do the bass for the ending right now before i forget it that's a g chord this is what i'm doing so it starts here alright hopefully i can still remember what i was doing there i slowed down at the end there oh geez now that i wasn't playing to the click that's so much harder okay the transition into the g here i have no idea if i got right i lost the rhythm in my head but i know that it ends on a g now i need to do the other guitars for the end chromatic ending kind of picky then this is the octave okay i'm going to try to do uh high harmony for the end it would also be cool if i put a solo in this are you laughing because i hit a lot of wrong notes i can't hear it at all i know i forgot for a second that you were recording not di so my laugh might be in that track that's probably fine chromatic 12th fret ending okay i should do the bass for this while i have it in my head and then i just need like a verse chorus yeah and then a solo would be cool that sounds like anarchy man oh i will need to plug it in it's a pretty necessary step i need to do the bass at different levels of intensity with that riff so i can have this same riff in different degrees of intensity and then structure that out later dramatic base level one we have an ending i'm gonna try to improvise the solo [Music] whoa no i don't know oh geez okay i just know that this is g i'm just gonna go for it [Music] no how do you know now this is the seventh right here yeah and i know that the spot i had it's not gonna work i you know i was imagining in my head i was imagining this note being an e it's really hard to imagine what the notes are and how they relate to the chords that i'm playing all right well i have enough for this part i just need a verse chorus now oh done maybe just g to c is pretty safe all right so the song is gonna start just two guitars and a solo and then it's gonna go into the lyrics and then a chorus [Music] i'm not confident about that it'll probably be fine this is the intro solo first intro g to c to g g flat first with singing yeah we need bass it might be safer to go to an a there but i can't hear it now that i think about it that g flat isn't gonna work i need to go to an a instead and then we need a chorus if the verse is already on the g we might need the chorus to be something different it's just hard to tell the flow of the song and don't go the chorus took a g over here and then maybe that i can transition into the bridge but if i'm thinking about don't go then i'm going to be singing in the key of don't go don't go is in a different key than the song oh okay cool this is hard there's no way i'm going to be able to sing to that because i don't know what i'm doing g is my north star so to say and that's pretty much the whole verse [Music] i know that that makes sense but can i sing to it no okay i'm really confident i know what this sounds like okay i'm just gonna do that it's not a great transition from the verse into it it's doable and i know i can get it to go into the bridge [Music] i didn't record it g g seventh c [Music] first chorus g g seventh g major seventh c d thing i think it's a major seventh the chorus is going to be really really short [Music] oh no that one doesn't work okay [Music] i think i got the chorus with the guitars a lot of moving parts here man yeah yeah definitely the chords i used so i just need to structure the song here's the intro it's gonna start with the verse riff with the solo with just bass one chorus back into just the verse there's a lot of g's where are we gonna use this g build up and it's hard to keep track of what all these rhythms are this is the ending i know that for sure first chorus verse chorus and you're just gonna have to sing to this like looking at it visually yeah i'm wondering if i should get a chorus first while it's fresh in my head and then do the structure here's the question would it be cheating if i just heard a g yes that would be cheating just hear the one note yeah then i just need to think really hard about what a g sounds like boom uh i can't even hear myself oh my god oh my god this is gonna be awful can i turn off the static for just my voice because otherwise this is impossible oh no i think i gotta get off the white noise for the singing so i can at least hear myself just through my head i think you were crazy to include singing in the first place this is bad news can i hear a g just one note like i think it's cheating i don't think you're allowed to hear a g i think you can turn on the tuner oh okay that's a clever workaround um no i'm way off oh my god why am i on b wow so i was imagining this whole song in the key of b i know those would work with the chords oh my god no d is going to work with both of these chords i'm just looking at it oh i'm just looking at the fretboard that's right here [Music] i'm always sharp it'd be more fun with lyrics yeah you need just four words basically hello everyone i need lyrics i need a three word chorus and a general topic if you got any ideas where's my bucket okay i eat books how do you feel about i eat books [Music] all right i eat books [Music] oh man okay i think i got it that will be the follow-up this is madness dude this is this is ridiculous i have lost all perspective and the singing is so hard i'm just gonna build out a big g chord at the end [Laughter] so then if i'm building out a g the next one would be a b oh that's one i can finally use now the key that i'm always in apparently while doing this song i'm always sharp i'm internally like 450 instead of 440. [Music] okay so this is gonna like cascade up books i just need to find where this ends oh no peach jackets in a different time i had to slow down at the end didn't i i think i'm confident in the ending i need the rest of the lyrics so far i think we have some pretty hard hitting social commentary we need two verses and this ending with singing in it maybe i could just talk over the part every day i get up to have breakfast the chromatic is gonna be really really difficult all right now i need two verses and i'm just gonna ramble i go that's gonna work i go to shows with books all right i need another verse i come home without them without them okay i think that's probably the lyrics i don't know if the build up makes sense anywhere we could add the build up elements to the end g so there's going to be a lot of guitars at the end that's how i'm going to use that ending we did i think it's done oh my god here's the song [Music] [Music] i go to shows with birds [Music] i go [Music] home without them [Music] eyes [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] every day i get up to have breakfast but my search for good literature is just too strong and i eat all the books in my general direction and before i know it i need to buy an entire library of new books [Music] [Music] not the most graceful of endings wow that actually kind of worked yeah yeah the only like glaringly wrong note was in the second verse my initial idea that i recorded and then thought would be wrong was correct that turned out so much better than i thought it would yeah that is such a relief because if we just like pick the wrong key for one of them wow okay so it it can be done with it with a little knowledge of music theory and past experiences you can you can make something tolerable without hearing it thanks so much for watching you can subscribe if you like and i'll see you next week with another video
