[Music] you know what sucks if your icrometer was off you'll see that my icrometer was semi close enough all right so i'm back in the shop for another round on this gmc truck of landon's and i'm down to the front bumper now so what we're going to do sounds like there's a cat in this shop there is see this little black thing what do you do when your kid drags a cat home you just let her keep it i guess so back to the truck what i'm doing is this chunk of seat or square tube is gonna get welded flat off of here and then i'll be able to mount my bumper off of that thing so it'll be way more substantial and it's gonna keep the frame from walking so that it won't break the frame i'll get that put in there and then we're going to drag that big old hunk of metal in i got some 4x6 rectangle tubing that we're going to build the bumper out of and i'll get working on it we're going to put this in then put the front clip back on it and then i can build a bumper i'm not really a cat person i like dogs i like stuff i can whistle at and it comes to you we're gonna get that all welded in there the frame's still a little bit crooked right here it looks like we'll get it straightened out this kid just comes to the shop helps himself in the fridge yeah we just got my go-kart fixed it had a gas leak it's handled though huh that's kind of what we're going for right there okay you can see that the frame's still not straight so this is my game plan maybe a bad one that's what i'm doing i'm gonna weld this bolt right to the side of it right there right there and i'm to set this port of power over it i'm going to chain it on this side and we're going to pull it down flat and i think it's going to work then we'll just cut the bolt off after we're done should never even be able to tell that the frame was bent on this thing [Music] all right [Music] it's either gonna work or foul miserably [Music] all right i'll weld that thing in frame will be fixed it looks permanent yeah it ain't coming off [Music] voila buff that up a little never even know we were there that's what people called my backhoe green well we got grandpa in the shop we needed some muscles so we put the front clip on just so we have a reference point to build this bumper to the game plan is it'll be flat across here 28 inches it'll bend slightly over to there something like that and then it's going to wrap around the corner something of that effect like that if we can make that all happen that's the plan so we'll start cutting and measuring and see what we can get yeah i'll just go to i'll just go to 14 that's where we'll start the bend okay that should be the outside of the frame rail right there now we just got to decipher how many degrees we want that to bend yeah i'll bet if we take a half inch out of it well then a half inch is going to be about perfect so what we're going to do is we're going to take a pie out of this just a little slice cut it clear down and then we'll bend this so it has a a profile to it we're gonna mark us up a little here [Music] that should do us now which line do you cut 27 lines back there so good thing i can weld the gap up pretty good this lands bumper how much you pay me for this the more you pay the better i do [Music] how much money you got not much we're gonna get that good of a job done man [Music] we're satisfied that this is gonna work or close enough to work that we can weld it so we're gonna cut it out we decided a half inch and then taper the ends and we'll bend it in and that should give us the angle that we're after i didn't use any complicated math equations just use my micrometer basically and it looks like that's what it's going to need across there so that's what it's getting you know what sucks what if your icrometer was off never been off before [Music] right there's one down we'll get the quarter power back out put a chain in between the port of power just suck it together pack it hold it over there you'll see that my hycrometer was semi close enough all right lando's getting us all set up here and rigged up so we can bend this bumper and see what we've got right on top of the blocks just hook one side at a time pull it tight there you go now hook the other side oh you got it okay get hold of the pumper thing now it ain't going nowhere it's fine okay nice and easy and pull it together okay you're you're out of stroke ease it off and we'll take another chain link you'll fill it bottom out that's it it bottomed out okay let it off get another link one way to learn stuff and that's to do it that's looking good it's looking like the right angle so we're gonna tack this real quick and then hold it up to the truck so we can see if it's right yeah that's how we're gonna do it it's gonna work just fine i'm gonna go ahead and weld these together and then we'll start doing the next the next bend she's welded together again now we'll start measure taping and see what we can get done [Music] okay more of the same we got these little things drew out so we're gonna come across over to the fender right here and then we're gonna turn and taper it back so we just gotta cut bend this thing some more and then we'll start making it look like a real bumper all right we're gaining we are to there we've got the ends curled to there so now i think i'll weld this in and then i'm going to take another pie piece out of right here and get this to roll back over a little bit more and try to match this part of the fender with it that's the plan we're going to see if i can make it happen so this is the gist of what we got going on so we're going to take wedge this and bend this over so it's only two inches or an inch thick on this side so where i'm at those are at the proper angle now i just got to cut all of this stuff bend it over into it weld it all in and then we'll have it so we're gaining on this this whole bumper situation so my goal is for this side right here to be two inches wide is all on this side so all that's gonna have to come over and then we'll square it up on the ends it'll look good and life will be great hopefully when i'm done with it all right we're getting some more stuff done we got that we've got notches cut all over i got this trimmed down to the two inches that i want it to be now we're just gonna find this angle right here we're gonna start pulling it in until it touches there and we'll have one side built it's a lot of work to get all these angles right but it'll pay off then it'll look good and it'll be tough [Music] it's a little closer i'm going to decide if i want to put one more little tweak in it or if i wanted to just all go i think i want one more little bend in it right here all right we're figuring this out as we go [Applause] we're gonna have to do something else to bend it we'll figure something bop dar showed up it's after work now he's been crushing gravel today yep but i got this one side handled so we go from four inch to two inch things are looking good now i just got to cut a 45 on it cut this piece off cap that and we'll have this side done land's finally back got home from baseball practice this side's built that's the gist of the bumper i just got to do this to the other side coming together starting to look like something now like that right there i think this looks like we knew what we were doing on the angles yeah it's going to fit pretty dang good get your winch mounted here some sort of a grille guard on it i don't know if we should cut that up and trim your fender i think it'll it looks pretty good all right we'll leave it like that like that all right i'm back at it again this morning so this is where i'm at right there it's looking good so now i'm gonna take and cut this i'm cutting two inches off this side so two inches off the top two inches off the bottom then i'll put a flat plate piece across it give it a little bit of a profile make it look good it'll be tough so we'll get after it all right we got this thing cut it's all profiled that's what it looks like these are the pieces that i cut for it so i'll give you the gist of what they're going to look like okay so it's going to set in there something like that to get a little profile to it so now i got a bunch of welding and grinding and voila it'll be done got it all done except for the ends and then we can get the mounts made get it put on and then take it off and land can do a ton of grinding on it when he gets home from work tonight and this thing will be looking good the bumper is at this point right here i got it's all boxed in i haven't ground the front of it [Music] landon can do that but that'll give you the the gist of what it's gonna look like anyway so turned out pretty fair right now we're gonna build a mount so this is how i'm going to mount it i'm going to drill holes across here then i'm going to drill them in here and tap them i'll set it up we'll weld this to the back of the bumper we'll be able to unbolt it and then i'll put another one on the bottom same deal bumper should be here forever then i can get the winch plate figured out and the hoop put on it bumper's done at that point all right so i wasn't sure if i liked how this worked over here but i do so i was gonna notch it all the way and then i decided you know i want some protection on the side so i just put a little corner there it's gonna turn out good now we're just gonna we'll get a winch plate figured out get it setting on here and get that built and then we'll build his grill for it his grill guard [Music] i don't know exactly how full on we're gonna go i think we're just gonna put a hoop on it i'm running out of ambition on his project honestly because i got a fj that needs to come in here and get worked over i'm ready to ready to get after it so bumper i need done i need it to run and drive put exhausts on it finish this pig we're running to cedar city today to pick up the seat for landon's truck they called said it was done so we'll go get it that's one more piece of the puzzle we've got jace say hi what's up because jace yeah you got a smile too apparently because everyone thinks you're crabby yeah he's got all terrier motives that's why he's with us yeah he does what are we doing going to get a bike some bike that he thinks is awesome can't live without it so he's spending all his hard-earned money from the summer on a dang pedal bike not even motorized we'll head to cedar [Music] i did see it i just didn't know that's nice yep that'll be awesome really good probably too good for a teenager but yeah it is but yeah he's paid for it so i want it to be like he can show it off to his friend yeah an awesome day we will [Applause] are you gonna let landon borrow it i don't know about that one but he's got truck he don't need a bike all right so we got landon seat jace's bike now we're headed home to finish a front bumper so away we go solana's just coming home from baseball practice and we'll see how he likes his new seat what do you think oh that looks really nice like really nice you like it i don't like it i love it what did it used to look like old torn up pretty much the old dash it's gonna look good in there i like the little dark lighter gray yeah it's gonna look good in the truck so we got home just in the nick of time for the fedex guy to show up and he unloaded all this into my truck most of you aren't very excited but i'm excited because you don't know what it is but i do this is awesome for fabricating stuff it's a belt sander a mirror braid gonna make my life tons easier we'll get this all out and get it assembled to show you what it is and you'll all be jealous too so landon's truck timeout we're not working on it right now i was going to finish the bumper not anymore i'm working on this [Music] this is the main main part right here this makes my grinder obsolete [Music] we're gonna have ourselves a bonfire there we are yep there's the belts now we just gotta put it together [Music] [Music] um i got this completely assembled and it's awesome and then realized that i put it on wrong pretty rookie move but not the end all right this thing's awesome so i just barely got this ameribraid belt sander all put together this thing is going to save so much time on the grinder so it's got these little doodads here which are awesome so i can tells you the pipe size so if i need to notch a piece of pipe or something i can put this in and i can notch the pipe with these super fast and easy and i'll get a piece of metal show you how it works so it's all variable speed so if you're rounding works awesome yeah for fabricating this is going to be awesome i'm excited like a kid in the candy store yeah because we're going to start the fj right shortly and this thing's going to get used a ton for that so i bet i use this thing at least once a day forever super straight forward easy to put together we just it has this little card that comes with it right here you scan it shoot you to youtube basically and we watched a video on how to put it together and i should have watched the video before i started to put it together because i put this on backwards if i had to watch the video i've been like oh yeah thanks ameribrade all right we're back on the bumper again today [Music] and i got some stuff going on so it's a winch plate and what i've got going on is this is this is four inches wide right here and my holes are basically 5 inches wide so they're i i don't have enough space to fit the bolts up through it and i don't want to take the bumper on and off to put it in so what i'm planning is i'm going to take and put that right there in the bumper i'm going to cut a hole in it and put it down through there the reason i'm doing that this is the this is the bolt it'll fit right up in there then you'll be able to put a socket right up through the bottom you want to take the bumper off everything will be good so i'm going to go ahead drill some holes cut that out put them in and then the bumpers built all right we're uh we're back at this so the plate's setting on where i want it i've just center punched these holes and then i'll take that hole saw drill me a hole it'll go right through the bumper and then i got to figure out where to drill it on the bottom that's the hard part but then life should be good all right so basically i guessed on where this need to be i drew a line but i guess in and out it'll be we'll be close enough to do what i got to do [Music] all right it looks like we've done something proper so this is just leftover cage stuff from dars jeep actually oh yeah let me find a whammer [Music] oh i see the deal i gotta do a little raymond pretty dang close [Music] okay i'll show you what it's supposed to look like now it's nice and flush there nice and flush poking through the bottom all right there there they are installed you can see right through them we'll be able to put a bolt right up through it no sweat now i'm gonna mount this here plate right over the top of it like so weld it on and life will be great we'll put a winch on it all right so i got me a bunch of these little angle brackets cut out we're gonna grind them up nice [Music] parts handled all right we're gonna put these little corner pieces in right now [Music] okay make them permanent and put them in place should be good all right can't drag that winch mount off there ever it's there i got these cool little things i'm going to cut them off and they're gonna go right here on this side somewhere so i was just trying to check them out see where they're gonna go and we're getting there we're getting closer hooks are on those are the factory hooks that were on the truck i just cut them off welded them on now we can drop a rope over it easy and i can tow him out when he's stuck because he's gonna get stuck all right so land is at work i talked to him last night and he kind of explained to me what he wanted for the front bumper hoop said he wanted something that comes like by this light up to here across and down so that's what i'm gonna build right now and hopefully he likes it he ain't here to tell me he does or doesn't so i'm building it and then he's gonna have to like [Music] it's pretty getting close to level sometimes i surprise myself i cut that and measured it and bend it exactly what it needed to be [Music] now i just got to get it centered side to side you know what i do i need to do it so i'm gonna put a bend right in the middle i'm just gonna bow this thing a little bit to give us some character yep i'm gonna do that landon's home from work show yourself yeah i'm home is this what you had in mind yeah something of that nature what do you think of it it looks pretty cool got your winch mound on it your hooks are on it it's ready to mount once this thing's on it we got it we might tie in a bar right here or something once your winch comes that'll keep an old dough out of your grill anyway yeah if one happens to run out in front of you okay i'll pack that in place and we'll call her good she'll be built that's the front bumper it's built now landon he's got a bunch of grinding to do on it and we'll paint it put the winch on it next time you guys see it it'll be all installed and looking good and but the bumper is done we're one step closer with the truck so until the next one thanks for watching
