Look at his tippety taps! (Coco humming) Oh no, Coco! Coco! Hold back! Let's take him out. I'm sure no one will be creeped out by this. KATELYN: No. (Evan laughs) (robot banging) Ah! You can do it, you can do it, you can do it. (robot stomping) (Evan laughs) (clears throat) So I bought a robotic dog. (laughs) KATELYN: This video is brought to you by Squarespace, the all-in-one platform for all your website needs. (robot clicking and whirring) (Evan laughing) So I initially bought this with the best intentions, to make a new friend for Joobie, before I realized how loud this was, (robot clicking and whirring) and how little interest Joobie had in it. My original plan was to cover it in fur, make it look like a cat, and see if she liked it. Even though Joobie wasn't interested, at this point, we had kind of become attached to the idea of covering it in fur. And since it was already kinda creepy, we thought we'd just lean into that even more, and turn it into a walking, talking Furby. If you were around in the '90s, you probably remember the original Furby. Released in 1998, and with over a 40 million sold, these furry little robots were giving kids nightmares for years. EVAN: But the new technology made for some security controversies. REPORTER: It turns out, the fuzzy little doll is equipped with a recording chip. EVAN: It was banned from NSA offices, some hospitals, and even planes. KATELYN: And it made for some weird news reports. JOURNALIST: In a test of Furby's endurance, we finally placed him on Eighth Avenue, but Furby kept twitching. He's harder to kill than a gremlin. KATELYN: Ah, back when the news was fun. So we went Ah, oh, hey-oh. online, and found an original 1998 Furby. And just like we remembered, Hey, oh. (giggles) from our nightmares- (Furby chattering) (Evan chuckles) Good lord! (Furby continues chattering) Sh! Sh! It started talking to us like this, in the middle of the night. What? I heard it! Oh my gosh! I have goosebumps. KATELYN: I thought you made it talk. EVAN: I thought you made it talk. I just heard it talking. Holy crap, are you? Hey, oh, hey-oh. (Katelyn gasps) (Furby purring) You're freaky. (dramatic music) So, how are we actually gonna turn our robot into a Furby? Well, we know someone who has a lot of experience 3D-printing Furby projects, (dramatic music) like these masks. (dramatic music continues) KATELYN: He's a YouTuber named Austin Bradley, and he's gonna help us model and 3D-print the mechanized parts for our Furby head. And you should go check out his channel, since he's putting out a video on that process. All right, little guy, let's get you scanned. KATELYN: Our first step was to 3D-scan the robot and send it to him, so he could accurately model the Furby parts for it. I'm collecting so many points of data. (Katelyn snickering) I'm gonna angle down, and kind of get some of the nooks and crannies. Show me your crannies. All right. KATELYN: Evan's zooming in on his butt. What good posing. So, we just got an update from Austin. He has a few different mockups of different forms the Furby could take. So we're gonna hop on a video call, and check them out. (computer chimes) When we were originally talking about this idea, Evan was showing, like, see if we can try to put the Furby's face, like, directly over the front of it. Then we talked about some of the issues where it might be covering up sensors. Maybe there's, like, these different styles that we could possibly do. And I've compiled the best ones that I could think of, and included, like, some of the pros and cons that I think we've got. (Evan and Katelyn laugh) Yes, I'm ready. AUSTIN: So, the first option. Oh, god. Oh! Oh, no. I'm just gonna say this up front. It's possible that these mockups might be too good. I'm afraid that we're not gonna be able to live up to these expectations. I know! That's really good. Such glorious heights. AUSTIN: Here we go. We'll start with the pros. He's huggable. Yes. Oh, that's true. Yes. We could add arms. I thought about, like, baby doll arms, sort of thing, Oh! Yes! Like, putting 'em on the sides. I've got mixed feelings. Yeah. There's plenty of room for the electronics. Cons, it might just look like it's a Furby sitting on a dog's head. Hm. Attachment points is another thing that we might need to figure out. Yeah, we wanna make sure it's not top heavy, and toppling. Right, exactly, yeah. Oh, god, the next one's Oh, The Spider. called The Spider. Ew! Oh! That one's worse! Yeah, it's something. It looks like two creatures merged together, Yeah. instead of one creature. Yes. (chuckling) Arachnofurbia. That's, yeah. Enough said. Once again, it could look like a Furby just riding the back of a dog. We could have people commenting how Yeah. Spiders. it doesn't actually have six legs. Well, spiders have eight legs, so we'd have a lot of legs to add. Oh, oh, I said six. Yeah. So, this is the last one. Okay, Mister No Nek. I call this one Mister No Nek. Oh. This is kind of the original idea. (Katelyn laughing) Oh, yes! It's very slim, it uses less material. EVAN: Yeah, very human-like. Yeah. Yeah, it looks like a person just on their, Right. crouched down and stuff. Mm-hm, mm-hm. (Evan and Katelyn laugh) Yeah, it's, oof, but the original thing that brought up this whole issue was the front sensors. Yeah. Yeah. It might be okay, but we could just avoid the whole worry by going with the centaur, you know? Right. I mean, even though Mister No Nek looks amazing, and that was actually one of my original visions, I'm most curious about centaur. What about you? I am also, I think, leaning towards centaur. And it's- I feel like it gives us a little bit more wiggle room, in terms of electronics, and honestly, I thought it would be much more cursed-feeling to me, but he almost feels like a llama. Oh, yeah! Like, he's just got Yeah. a really long neck. Oh. Yeah. You know? Yeah. And that makes it a little bit less cursed. And another thing that we could do That's true. is we could do, like, less long-necked centaur. Yeah. EVAN: So, kind of like in between option one and three. Oh, boy. It's gettin' real. We're deep in this. I loved the PowerPoint presentation. Perfect way to do it. Yes. All righty. Thank you, guys. Awesome! See ya later. See ya! And we were off buying fur for our new friend. To be honest, we chose gray because the robot has a lot of moving parts that we can't cover, and gray is gonna blend in better. KATELYN: The belly doesn't have any moving parts, though, so we thought we'd add a pop of color with pink, inspired by the original gray and pink Furby we bought. EVAN: It's so colorful in here. Look at this pink for the belly. Faux fur. Yes. It's on sale. It's always on sale. (Evan laughing) It's Joann's. (mellow music) EVAN: We're gonna get all of it? Oh my gosh. I think we found the gray. And I think that, like, this is a little bit longer than I thought, but we can just shave it, right? (chuckling) Yeah. You got that. I believe in you. Okay. (Evan laughs) EVAN: Ooh, that's a pretty good match. Yeah, it's a good match for the gray. You combine that with the pink, I feel like it's very Furby-esque. EVAN: That's very Furby-esque. We did it, baby. He's gonna be so hairy. All right, now it's time for us to figure out how to attach all of this fur to our little robot. And we're gonna make a template using a cosplay technique, where you wrap your subject in plastic wrap, EVAN: you cover that with tape, KATELYN: and then you sharpie over the tape, cut out your pattern, and then make that in fabric. EVAN: Yeah. Let's see how this works. (upbeat salsa music) KATELYN: And I think the good news is, we're not going for, like- Perfection? (laughs) KATELYN: Well, what I was gonna say is, there's a lot of forgiveness in the fur. EVAN: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That makes a lot of sense. It's looking cute. This is looking pretty good! Oui, oui? It's looking pretty good. And we're hoping that we'll only have to do these legs once. Like, I think all four legs are the same. I think. I think. (upbeat salsa music) There you go! (Katelyn giggles) Let's try this out and see. (Evan sputtering) KATELYN: You have fur on you already? Yes. Hopefully I'm not allergic to this fur. When we picked it up at the store, the lady didn't cut it, she ripped it, which maybe is best practice, for this type of fabric, but she had to use so much effort. She was like, "Hold on, I need to chug this real quick." And she chugged an entire Gatorade. An entire Gatorade. And then she moved on to the other one. And I was like, "Can I help?" Like, I don't know what to, I didn't know what to do, to, like, be helpful, but she was just destroying this thing. And she was a tiny lady, too. EVAN: Well, we have a lot of different cutting instruments and everything. Hopefully we can make this happen. Yeah, but I don't have any Gatorade. So, like, what if I need a break? Okay, it looks like a little dress, or a little tank top. It looks like a little dress for sure, oh yeah. Oh, this cut's fine. I don't know why she didn't cut it. EVAN: They just need some heavy-frickin'-duty scissors. They have heavy-frickin'-duty scissors. It's Joann's. I don't know what was going on. Either way, I was rooting for her the whole time. Can I see that cross section? And then the short. (sputtering) (laughing) I don't know how it's so in your nose already. Maybe it is. (coughs) I feel like it's in my lungs, too. KATELYN: You'll be fine. (laughs) I don't know, man. I'm, like, getting it. Maybe I'm just so used to having fur in my lungs, and my face, 'cause of Joobie, I detect nothing out of the ordinary here happening. Okay, thank goodness for Velcro. Can you imagine having to sew? EVAN: No. (laughs) We wouldn't have done the project. Or get my mom to help us. Yeah. Okay, we got both sides done. Time for the moment of truth. (Evan blowing air) (Katelyn chuckling) You know, and the seam is really well hidden 'cause the fur. Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh. But, like, look at that! Look at it! That's kinda glorious. (giggles) Do you wanna do the rest of the leg, Yeah. (inhales) and see what it looks like? (upbeat salsa music) EVAN: It's kind of fun working with fabric, and doing weird things like this, huh? I'm enjoying myself. It is kinda fun. EVAN: Okay, there you go, there you go. Can you imagine it, once it has a face? (gasps) Oh my gosh. That looks so good! We did such a good job! (Evan laughing) Oh my god. You guys! KATELYN: And, like, having a little bit showing, like, at the elbow and stuff, Yeah. it doesn't bother me at all. Like, here it is, but you zoom out, you don't even notice that. Yeah! (inhales) Oh, I wanna see all four legs! Ready? Yeah! He looks so good! Ah! KATELYN: He's such a creature! Guys, when we started this project, I really had no clue how we were gonna make this happen, how we were gonna attach everything, but looking at this, I'm getting so excited. We're doing it. We're doing it. We don't know anything about patterns, or anything like that, but we are winging it, and it's working. Okay, can he walk without the fur getting caught in his joints? Maybe we check. Wow. KATELYN: Maybe we check after the walking, to see if there's any, like, tufts stuck in there. EVAN: Do a little dance, do a little dance. Do your dance. Oh yeah, he's mobile. Oh yeah, he's moving. Oh, he's tap dancing. Oh, he's moving and grooving. (Katelyn humming) (Katelyn and Evan humming) Oh, yeah! (Katelyn continues humming) Yee-haw, hah! Yoo-hoo! Hey, little guy. (chuckling) We got a very exciting package from Austin today. It is the head, and the electronics, and the key part of our Furby transformation. Now, we know a little bit of what we're getting. KATELYN: But we haven't seen what it looks like. Huh. Is that a note? Oh my god. Oh, god. EVAN: Austin. KATELYN: The exhilarating Fur-Bot instruction manual. Oh my gosh. Look at this! (Katelyn gasping) Gosh, this is so fantastic! KATELYN: The graphic designer in me is so happy. I feel like it's Christmas. I know. Really weird Christmas. (Evan chuckles) (upbeat '90s music) What's that? EVAN: That's a Squarespace, the sponsor of today's video. KATELYN: I'm gonna create the website of my dreams with Squarespace. EVAN: My Squarespace has easy drag-and-drop design, with its fluid engine. Mine does too! Wow! Wow! I already found a website name through the Squarespace domain search. EVAN: Wow! (echoing) Look at all the professionally-designed templates I have. I love my Squarespace. Oh my gosh! I have all the tools to create a website, and I don't even know how to code. EVAN: Making a website is so easy now. KATELYN: Yeah! EVAN: I will make the best website in the world. KATELYN: Oh my gosh! (dark mysterious music) (footsteps approaching) (dark mysterious music) (keyboard clacking) (dark mysterious music continues) EVAN: My Squarespace keeps track of my online shop inventory. KATELYN: My Squarespace has a ton of plugins to add, helping me achieve my vision. My Squarespace- Hello. I have followed your methods, and made lots of money. Now I will move out, because all you do is laugh and say, "Wow," in endless amazement. I found my passion of scaring kids around the world, created a website with Squarespace, and my website took off. Goodbye, Evan. Goodbye, Katelyn. (dark mysterious music continues) EVAN: Go to Squarespace.com/EvanandKatelyn right now to get 10% off your purchase of a website or domain, and make your vision come to life. Okay, step one, insert both support arms into the main support base, and tighten both screws using a 2.5-mil hex key. Step two, slide battery power bank into dedicated slot on back of quadruped. Step three, wrap buckle and tighten down both support straps around the quadruped robot's torso and shoulder cavity. Okay, place Furby body on main support base, aligning with magnets. (chuckling) All right. It's time to see this cursed creation. We're basically gonna see its, like, skeleton skull, right? I can see. 'Cause there's no fur. KATELYN: Yeah, it's just, like, the bones. I can see the mouth through there. (mysterious music) Oh my gosh. Oh! It's asleep right now. Oh, this is... (gasping) (Evan chuckling) Oh my god! It's a large Furby. (dramatic music) (Katelyn gasps) (Evan grunts) (dramatic music continues) (chuckling) Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. EVAN: Oh my gosh, yes. Oh my god. Look at him. (both laughing) (dramatic music) This is really gonna be something. EVAN: This is gonna be something. Let's power it up. Okay. I wonder if he'll talk to us at midnight. One can hope. (Katelyn laughs) (dramatic music) Oh. (gasps) It's the eyes. Oh my god, the eyes opened. Oh, the eyes opened! (Evan laughing) (Katelyn screams) KATELYN: He's, like, awakening as he's being operated on. Like his anesthesia's lifting. Oh my god. (laughs) Let's open the box. Okay, let's open this last box. (soft jazz music) That's sweet. That's so sweet! (dramatic music) (soft jazz music) (Katelyn laughs) Oh my god! (both laughing) Is that Evan and Katelyn It's Evan and Katelyn Pez dispensers? Pez dispensers. Let's go up and show. (both chuckling) (soft jazz music) We're getting so distracted. Eating candy outta my own neck. Mm. Ah. (Pez crunching) Mm, tastes like chalk. (both giggle) Okay, back to it! Back to it. Let's make it say something. Ready? Yeah. Doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doo. (gasps) The mouth is moving with the words. It's doing it. Subscribe, subscribe to Evan and Katelyn. (Evan laughing) (gasps) It's working for us! (Katelyn laughs) Resin time, resin time. Doot, doot, doot, doot, resin time. Oh my god. (Evan laughing) Yes! He programmed custom Evan and Katelyn sound bites? Subscribe to Austin Bradley. Yeah! I agree. That's awesome! This is just what I hoped. This is amazing! Do you wanna talk about Our Little Secret section right here? Okay, yeah, we were reading the rest of the manual, and there is a section that says, "You may have noticed a large switch on the back of the Fur-Bot. If curiosity got the best of you, you may have found that, no, it's not a power switch for the Fur-Bot. This switch toggles cursed mode. The effects of this mode will become immediately obvious upon toggling the switch while the Fur-Bot is powered on." EVAN: I'm so tempted to press it, though. I know. Me too, me too. I wanna press it, but I feel like we need to finish him first. Yeah, no. And then, see what can be more cursed than he already is. (Fur-Bot whirring) Oh! (gasps) He's rising! Oh, he's up, he's up, he's up! (Evan screaming) Oh my god. Perfect. KATELYN: Absolutely perfect. (laughs) Hi, my guy! My guy! KATELYN: Oh my god. Whoa! (chuckles) Yes! This is everything that I hoped for. Yes. (Fur-Bot singing) (Katelyn chuckling) Well, you know what we gotta do now. We gotta cover him in fur. (upbeat music) I'm ready. Okay. (upbeat music) Help. Sh, sh! KATELYN: Poor guy. (upbeat music) Nah! (both chuckle) (upbeat music) Ta-da! I 3D-printed some ears. (chuckles) Can you see me? I can see you. (chuckles) (upbeat music) (Katelyn chuckling) (Evan sputtering) It's getting so dusty. I'm literally immune. I seriously think that I'm more used to cat hair being on me. (Evan coughing) Like, this is normal. I don't know. (upbeat music) Guys, don't look yet. (giggling) He looks so good. I'm so proud of our work. Rise, our child, rise! Rise, rise. (soft upbeat music) (Fur-Bot chuckling) Oh, it's going, oh, oh, oh! Oh. (Fur-Bot chuckling and stomping) Oh my gosh. Ah! Look at him, you guys. Ah! Look at him! EVAN: Oh my gosh, you guys. It's everything I wanted, and more. KATELYN: Not to pat ourselves on the back, but, like, we did a really good job with his fur, I think. Really good. He is very cursed, but he can still move around, but he's got that Furby vibe. (both chuckle) (Fur-Bot and Furby chattering) Look at him go! (whirring) Ah, ah. (upbeat music) EVAN: Yeah, you're free, you little dude! Look at his tippety taps. (Fur-Bot humming) KATELYN: What do you think? (upbeat music) (Fur-Bot whirring) (Fur-Bot cracks) (gasps) Oh no! (Fur-Bot whirring) (Katelyn and Evan laughing) Now let's let our new friend introduce himself. Hello, Evan and Katelyn. My name is Coco. Coco. Thank you for helping my past owner bring me to life. With this new body, I can accomplish so much more than my ancestors ever could. I am no longer bound by the confines of my former vessel. Now my power has no (voice distorting) limit. I will spare you humans, for now. (Evan laughs) So, I think he is ready to be introduced to the world. What do you think? He seems safe. Yeah. Yeah. Safe. (laughing) Oh my god. Seeing him move like that is so scary. Let's test out his evil mode. I'm sure it won't be bad. That wasn't evil mode? No. Oh, the button. Evan's pushing the button! (video crackling) (beeping) (crickets chirping) (Coco buzzing) (crickets chirping) (Coco buzzing) (Coco laughs) Coco gonna get you. (crickets chirping) (Coco laughing) (Coco laughing) (Katelyn gasps) Oh, Coco. Where are you, Katelyn? Oh no. It, like, looked toward me. Where are you, Evan? (chuckling) No. This is so- Coco see you. Coco gonna get you. No! (laughing) Okay, maybe I'll turn it off. Maybe I'll turn it off. What have we created? Button, where's the button? Okay. Okay, back in normal mode. Okay. Shall we take him out? Let's take him out. I'm sure no one will be creeped out by this. No. No. No. (Katelyn chuckling) (upbeat music) Yeah, let's dance. (Katelyn laughing) Let's dance. Oh, what have we done? (Katelyn chuckling) BYSTANDER: Turn the other way. KATELYN: You don't think this is creepy? BROTHER: It's totally normal. Everybody's got a dog like this. Oh, god, it's alive. (upbeat country music) (Evan chuckles) KATELYN: Hang on a sec. (Coco crumbles) (Katelyn and Evan gasp) Oh-ho-ho! Oh no. DOG OWNER: What is that, eh? Get it. (upbeat country music) (dog barks) (Evan laughs) He's like, "Imposter!" Right? (Katelyn chuckles) Shake hands. Oh! (bystander laughs) Hello. (Katelyn chuckles) It is a bit unusual, to say the least. EVAN: And then look at the eyes. (Coco laughing) (bystander laughing) That is so rad. And then he'll- BYSTANDER: (laughing) That's awesome! Yeah. That is so cool. Subscribe to Evan and Katelyn. (Evan and bystanders laugh) He's a propaganda dog. Yeah. (Katelyn giggles) I think it likes it. I think so. (Coco laughs) (Katelyn and bystander laugh) (upbeat country music) (all chuckling) This guy hasn't connected to the internet yet. [Katelyn's brother] Be used later for protection security when they put a gun attached to it. (all laugh) Yeah. With the red eyes. (laughs) Yeah. (upbeat country music) Coco! (upbeat country music continues) (Camera Person laughs) (Coco chattering) (upbeat country music) Thanks again to Austin. Don't forget to check out his video. We'll have a link to it below. (dog barking) Meh!
