foreign [Music] this is how to make an exact replica of the British Imperial State Crown the templates are available from my website you're going to need one EVA foam mat some purple velvet fabric a roll of white plastic pearl beads some jewels and crystals a length of white fur and some foam clay and a polystyrene ball firstly trace the shapes from templates A and B onto thick paper or card and cut them out using a sewing tape measure or string for accuracy measure the size of your head cut a strip of card to the size you measured at about three centimeters or an inch to the length now lay out the crown shapes on your strip adjusting between them to spread them evenly along the band stick the shapes to the strip this now becomes your crown template trace the crown template onto the foam mat you're probably going to need to split it into two pieces foreign draw to a point in between the shapes to join them now trace the cross patier and the four irregular pentagons make sure to remember to mark the fold points cut everything out using sharp craft knives with this build you can get away with sawing Cuts as they will be hidden at the end make sure to keep your knives Sharp slice the thin layer off the cross patier to remove the uneven surface at the back now it's time to glue the crown pieces together starting with the main base once again I prefer to use contact cement but any foam safe glue will work it's best to align the top edge of the crown as this is likely to be the most visible now cut a shallow V channel on the back of the pentagons at the fold line this will allow the foam to fold easily and hold without the need for glue take care to make your Cuts shallow so you don't go all the way through the foam now use a heat gun to close the pores on the smooth side of all the foam pieces not a hair dryer it won't work when you heat the pentagons add a slight curve to the long part while it's still warm now glue together the pointed ends of the pentagons then glue the flat ends of the pentagons to the tops of each of the squares on the crown to stop the crown from slipping down your head hot glue a cross piece inside the crown this will be hidden for the top of the crown you'll need a polystyrene ball to seal it cover it with two layers of acrylic paint or PVA glue with paint on top now seal all the foam pieces with PVA glue Flex band or my favorite Plasti Dip an interesting detail is that the cross pieces are actually made of silver oak leaves you can use a Dremel to shame the foam cross pieces or make Oak Leaf strips with foam clay like I did I shaped about 10 to 12 small oak leaves and joined them together in the shape of the Cross piece when the foam is dry after about 24 hours seal with PVA glue or Flex Bond once everything's dry you can cover with silver or chrome paint personally I love these chrome paint pens take the rectangle from template C and fold down the center and then along each of the three horizontal lines while each line is folded cut out each of the red or blue triangles this now becomes your gem layout template decide which Square will be at the front of the crown with the Ruby on it place the template against the crown aligning the center fold to the center of a side Square making sure the diamond marked Edge is pointed towards the front and the sapphire matte Edge is pointed towards the back keep the template and Crown aligned along the bottom Edge while the template is held against the Crown Mark through each of the holes to Mark the other side of the crown simply flip the template over making sure to align the bottom front and back accurately once again Mark through the holes draw two faint parallel lines around the crown by joining the dots around the top and bottom these lines around the crown become your guide for neatly gluing on the pearls using a hot glue gun very carefully glue down the pearls be careful not to use too much glue you want it barely visible under the pearls now it's time to cover your crown in gems refer to the gem layout sheet for details of where to cover the crown with rhinestones gems and crystals use a small triangle on template C to cut adhesive gem Sheets if you're using them they're a great time saver stick the gem sheet triangles to both sides of the Cross Pati I love this Sally's Quick Fix super glue it's safe to use with EBA foam and polystyrene best of all unlike the E6000 it doesn't turn rhinestones cloudy and it has great drop by drop control remember use as many gems as you like the real crown is covered in stones marking the gem locations on the crown base makes gluing faster and neater hot glue works best for the larger gems and for gluing down the oak leaf cross pieces did you know you can just use a Sharpie to add color to clear gems if that's all you can find now hot glue the ball and cross to the center of the Cross pieces pin about eight pearls to the sides of each of the Cross pieces take your piece of purple velvet Fabric and cut out a circle about one and a half to two times larger than your crown it doesn't need to be too neat Mark the 90 degree points around the edges of the fabric watching your fingers hot glue the fabric down to the inside of the crown make sure to align each Mark to the center of a square around the crown this will keep things even now glue a strip of fake fur under the bottom row of pearls on the outside of the crown fold the fur to the inside of the crown and glue it down at the Stuart Sapphire to the back center of the crown the black princess Ruby and the cullinan II Diamond to the front center of the crown and you're basically done these main gems were really difficult to find so I made some from resin this fur was too long so I needed to trim it and then I added some spots using a Sharpie and magically the Black Crown disappears as the gems draw your eye so this one's a little time consuming but it was a fun easy build you can do it if you want to see how to make the Saint Edwards Crown don't forget to check out my other video
