hey i'm farm dad and today i'm going to be telling you everything i like and everything i hate about this two-year-old 1626 mahindra that has 250 hours on it [Music] now i like to think of myself as a fairly positive guy so let's go ahead and start with all the things i like about this tractor and top of my list is just the overall capability of it this is a fairly large tractor for only having 26 horsepower in fact you can get tractors up to 40 horse with the exact same frame and for me i've always been a believer that the size of the tractor matters more than the horsepower that's going to be the case unless you're just pulling huge batwing mowers and things like that and so this is a fairly heavy tractor for its size and you feel it when you're out using it one of the first things that comes to mind when you're talking about the capability of a tractor is the loader and the loader on this tractor is fairly stout when it comes to lifting ability there's some other things i don't like about the loader that i'll talk about later but this thing can lift some serious weight for a small tractor i have not lifted round bales with mine because i don't have any large livestock but i feel pretty certain that it would be capable of handling 1200 pound round bells especially if you're not planning to lift them up super high i have lifted a 700 pound safe that uh and i had some really really uh overbuilt pallet forks on the front of this thing when i did that they were pilot forced off a 60 horsepower kubota tractor and probably weighed 400 plus pounds and so that that was i guess 1100 plus pounds that i had on this tractor lifting and i truly didn't even notice the tractor could feel the weight it lifted it with absolute ease the same way it would if the bucket was empty so i feel pretty confident in saying that this thing is capable of handling round bales the little mitsubishi engine that comes in this thing is fairly smooth it's not very loud and since i've owned it it's started every time i turn the key so that's always a good thing for only having 26 horsepower i also have to say that this little mitsubishi engine feels uh fairly powerful it's got a decent amount of torque when i i probably wouldn't run a 6 foot uh bush hog or mower behind this but i think it probably could uh i rarely ever bog down with my five foot on there and that's going through some really really thick stuff and uh it's got plenty of power uh to run that five foot with basically no problems whatsoever and uh particularly if you probably had a shuttle shift you might even be able to get by with a six footer there's a general rule that i've always heard that's five horsepower per foot of mower but this might be one of those cases where if you own the six foot implement already i i wouldn't be afraid to run it behind here particularly if you're not on huge hills not running a hydrostatic transmission there's just not going to be a ton of power draw from other areas of the tractor on it however the one place where i feel like this engine does lack power is when operating the hydrostatin high range with my backhoe attachment on the back anytime i hit a hill in high range the engine bogs and the tractor slows it really doesn't affect my use much as i live on a dirt road where i don't have to drive fast but if you plan to travel down the blacktop on yours from farm to farm keep in mind that this tractor does lack some power and speed in high range i like the uh the fuel system set up on it it's really easy to change the fuel filter basic maintenance isn't isn't too bad on this tractor everything's fairly accessible and i know i've seen some ls tractors that are a little bit harder to get to things and this mahindra is not not too bad to work on for the most part the cockpit controls are super comfortable as well this is a very high quality seat adjusts how you'd like it tilt steering wheel things like that i don't feel like um anything really gets in my way i know uh again i i've seen some ls tractors that have their key in just the absolute worst position possible and you can even break it off when you're using it so i think the ergonomics are really good uh the loader uh controls are are in a really nice location they don't get out in your way i prefer when they're back here instead of up here the one control that does get in my way uh that i can't stand is your transmission range selector this for some reason constantly gets caught in my pocket and when i'll be getting off the tractor and so then i've even had a couple times where it gets caught on my pocket and i don't notice it and i pull it forward out of gear then i get back on the tractor let off the emergency brake and hit the gas and start rolling backwards once i actually had just unhooked my three-point auger and rolled backwards into it and knocked it over so i'm not a big fan of the location of your gear selector hey sorry to interrupt but i wanted to let you know that i have partnered with super clean and if you hit that subscribe button right now you're going to be entered for a chance to win a gift basket of cleaning products from them so what do you have to lose click that subscribe button and help me out thanks so i guess that's kind of where we started making the switch from things i like the things i don't like already which if you haven't figured that out there's still a lot of video left which means there's quite a bit of things i don't like about this tractor so probably the biggest thing you want to know if you're watching this video is how reliable is the tractor so let me go ahead and give you a rundown of everything that's gone wrong with this in 250 hours probably the most frustrating thing for me is that with this thing only being two years old it already leaks quite a bit of oil let's see and from different spots let's see this was just parked in here last night and you can see i've got a drip here i've got a drip here there's one there fresh oil over there that's a lot of dripping uh to be honest i still haven't really gotten under here and figured out what all i've got leaking it's sort of a point of frustration for me because i don't really want to work on something that still has five years of warranty left on it but and that brings me to one of my other huge issues i don't like about this tractor and that is mahindra corporate uh you know they really talk up their warranty but uh you know it's not the greatest company to deal with when it comes to warranty issues um this one if i was to take it in right now for these oil leaks and have it fixed i probably wouldn't get my tractor back for months and yes you can kind of blame that a little bit on supply chain issues and the pandemic and things like that but mahindra doesn't care and that's the part that's frustrating mahindra does not care at all how long you're without a tractor and so your dealer might bend over backwards if you've got a good dealer and try to help you out but they're only limited what mahindra will do and uh they're not the greatest most uh you know old school people of their word companies out there that's why i haven't looked at the my oil leaks yet and it's also why i haven't taken it in for warranty service so i'm not sure what i'm going to do about that yet i mentioned earlier that i was going to tell you what i didn't like about this loader and that's the bucket i have already had to weld this bucket back together twice over here the first time and this is a little bit more understanding and i wouldn't have even probably faulted it if this was the only thing i probably might have but i had to weld this back together and you know that happens you know sometimes you get caught on a stump or something like that when you're using it and it just breaks that world loose and not the end of the world something more understandable but if you see right here and right here those fresh paint spots i just had to weld that all back together because the welds were breaking off where the bottom of the quick hitch attaches and so i just i can't even see how that happened and i haven't ever encountered that before in any other tractors i've been around so i'm not a big fan of the way this bucket was put together speaking of welding i should mention that this tie rod that goes between the two front tires bent super easily on us we were not abusing this tractor weren't even really doing anything too too rough on it just kind of hit a hole and it bent so you might notice that this is not a stock looking tie rod we took a piece of steel and welded it onto the back of it that way we'd know for sure that this little toothpick would not bend again of course which is common to any tractor i have blown several hydraulic lines on this one of the things that i don't like particularly about this is how low a lot of these hydraulic lines hang down this probably has a i don't even know maybe six inches of clearance right there not much of all they drag particularly when you're in heavy brush and uh just makes them susceptible to breaking now this probably only applies to the tractors that come with a backhoe but i'm not a big fan of the length of this hydraulic hose uh you'll notice i actually think this is one that i have had to replace before what you'll notice is this thing is kind of rubbing the three-point uh over here and so uh particularly and another hose i've had to replace is one actually on the backhoe because when you're hooking it up it gets in the way of let's see where is it right over here where the backhoe assembly attaches actually here's a better view showing what i'm talking about i'm about to hook up my backhoe attachment and you can see that all the hoses are routing right through where the top pin goes you have to be super careful as you lower this into place because you can pinch and damage your hydraulic lines and so i wish that they just kind of had a little bit better setup where these were either more out of the way these remotes or at the very least they had these sides a little more correctly so they weren't hitting things so that wraps up the things that have broken since i had the tractor now let me go into the things that i don't like tractor companies if you're listening to this video let me make my opinion known the heavier the tractor the better so there is no place for things like plastic and whatever this is which looks like really super thin stereo uh speaker cover material you see let me show you what a the metal on an old tractor look like super super thick super heavy that was a good thing for tractors and i think all of us would be willing to pay a little bit more to end up with heavier gauge metal this metal this hood not nearly as thick as the tractors that uh fathered it and uh whatever this is it punches holes in it it gets bent easier than anything i have ever experienced on a tractor before in fact i'd almost ventured to say that plastic would be better here than that speaker stuff you see i have a 90 acre timber plantation and hobby farm and when you get out in some thick pine timber there's going to be sticks bouncing off the hood of your tractor and it took no time to just absolutely tear this up i mean this is ridiculous my tractor only two years old and it looks just as beat up in my opinion as my 61 year old tractor in fact this thing probably has less dents in it and what i hate is that means that when i go to sell this thing people are going to think that it was abused and it wasn't now this thing was used this was used the way your grandfather used your tractors which means i had this thing running every single day doing everything under the sun but it was not abused although it sure as hell looks it and speaking of cheap plastic this machine came with a backhoe attachment and i don't have it on there at the moment but you may be noticing these rear fenders look a little bit weird they have been bobbed and the reason they've been bobbed is because when you get on and off of your backhoe attachment i mean what what is anybody going to do they're going to put their hand down on something to support themselves as they step off the tractor so what happens that you step off your tractor for the first time and you put your weight down on this and you crack your plastic of your tractor and that happened to this tractor and it's really frustrating when you've got cracked plastic on a brand spanking new tractor i ended up cutting that off made it look a little bit better and it gets it up out of the way so i didn't keep cracking it besides the oil leaks that this engine has the only other thing that i probably don't like about it is it feels like it gulps the fuel this thing doesn't have a very big fuel tank and that's part of the problem but um i feel like i have to fill this tractor up constantly and so if you're out working your tractor every day like i am it feels like you've always always always spending time filling it up and so i either wish that this thing got a little bit better fuel mileage or that it came with a bigger gas tank and i don't know if the 16 33s or the 1640s have a bigger gas tank but if they don't uh i'm guessing it's going to those bigger engines are going to use fuel even faster and you're going to just be constantly fueling up constantly while the loader on this tractor is fairly smooth and refined the three point on it is not nearly as smooth as other tractors i've used in the past it feels kind of jerky i've noticed like particularly where i notice it and it actually bugs me is with my auger uh with auger sometimes you know you're just trying to dig just a tad bit deeper and i'll just bear you know try to just it's just even like right here you can just kind of tell it it's like it's just not smooth moving the handle isn't and so i'm not talking about like the speed of the controls and things like that that can be adjusted i'm talking about this actual handle trying to move it there it's just it's clunky uh and so anyway uh if i'm trying to just drop that auger just a tad bit sometimes it's like i'm trying i'm pushing pushing i have to push so hard to get it to move and then it oh big move down and so uh now my hole hole's too deep just for comparison since i have it here i mean 61 years old but massey ferguson three point and it's like perfectly smooth ah that's the way tractors are supposed to feel that's the way kubota's have felt that i've used in the past i have had the parking brake stop working where you're to set this parking brake you push this pedal down and then you pull this switch up and what was happening was this switch when you'd pull it up it wouldn't engage the teeth and so i ended up having to get down underneath there and make some adjustments at some point the hydrostatic transmission on this thing is loud compared to some other hydrostats that i've used and um i will say i like the better pedal arrangement a lot better than like a kubota the quotas use the rockers right here and i find those super awkward but um the this where it's forward up here that works pretty good now you can see my that's already worn off but uh backward is way back here so it's not right there in your way and i like it but it's loud another thing that bugs me is even when your tractor is hot when you turn on the glow plug it always runs for the same length of time and so i don't know i probably can start it with the glow plug running i haven't ever asked anybody but i'm old school and i don't like to start until a glow plug is finished running and so it bugs me when i've been working all day i cut the tractor off to talk to my kids and then when i go to turn it back on i'm waiting for 10 seconds for that glow plug light to come out the differential lock on this tractor has never really worked the way it should it's real sticky it's real hard to use and i'm not a big fan in fact i'd say it's even dangerous for the life span of this tractor's differential you see to get it to engage i mean you have to stand on that thing like you wouldn't believe it's real hard to get engaged and then the problem is after you engage it where it's supposed to be a temporary thing where it just engages locks the rear wheels you get yourself out and then it's off it doesn't turn off for me to get mine off i have to sit there and i have to kick back on this pedal until it finally releases and what's dangerous about that is i can engage the differential push it all the way down finally get it working and it stays in and every time i'm turning with that differential lock that's wearing out that differential so you know it's a risk of spider gears and stuff inside there and i sure don't want to be rebuilding the differential on this thing so i'm not a fan of the controls on this at all and i think that's a common problem uh throughout this entire line they just are sticky it's a bad uh setup if you get online in like the facebook mahindra groups or even if you watch a bunch of other review videos here on youtube i think you'll find that there's a lot of conflicting opinions on these tractors and so i've now told you what i like and what i don't like about it now let me tell you why i think there's so many conflicting opinions you see if you are a weekend warrior if you're the guy who bush hogs they're 10 15 20 acres a few times a year you fix your gravel driveway a couple times a year you feed hay you know a couple times a week and you know piddle around with some dirt here and there every once in a while if you're the weekend warrior this is a great tractor for you and those are the people who are happy with it because under you know that kind of workload i think it does rather well so if you're that weak in warrior i wouldn't be afraid of this tractor and for the cost savings over buying one of these compared to like a comparable john deere kubota you know it's probably worth it but if you're a guy like me and you plan to use that tractor the way your grandfather used his tractor if that tractor is going to be working a big piece of property like i have it's not the right tractor for you and it's not one that i will probably buy again it's just there's a reason that you don't see road crews driving behind your tractors and there's a reason that you don't see these things on construction sites and i think that's because they're just really not made for heavy-duty industrial use there's just too many cheap components uh there's just corners cut things that are going to keep these tractors from lasting 60 years like that massey ferguson that sits in front of this one so that's my overall opinion of this tractor and so i hope this video helped you if it did would you mind clicking that subscribe button we are a family of six living our best life on 90 acres and ouachita mountains of arkansas and every time someone hits that button it makes this life possible for us we appreciate you
