Apple has just released Mac OS Sonoma and in this video I'm going to show you more than 100 brand new features and changes included in this update and this has to be my favorite Mac OS update in years so let's jump in so let's start with the very first thing you're going to see after installing Mac OS Sonoma and that is the awesome new lock screen so take a look at the time and the dates up top they're more translucent than they were before and then down at the bottom we have our user and our password input this is also where you can select multiple different users it all takes place at the bottom now and you'll also notice that our background is moving but take a look at what happens when I put in my passcode and go to the desktop it continues moving for a little bit and then it comes to a smooth halt so with Mac osinoma your screen savers become your wallpapers or vice versa however you want to look at it so also we do have a few other wallpapers I wanted to point out now you do see these widgets on my desktop here we'll get to that in just a moment but if you go into these settings here and then go down to wallpaper you will notice that we have a lot of new wallpapers in Mac osanoma we have hundreds of them here and that includes all of the aerial screensavers that you have on the Apple TV so here is the Mac OS Sonoma wallpaper looks pretty clean and we do have a dark mode version of this as well so you can rock the Mac OS Sonoma wallpaper or you can choose to rock one of the many wallpapers that we have down here for landscape cityscape underwater Earth you have the Aerials as well so if you go to one of these Shuffle Aerials you can see it will rotate through 121 Aerials every 12 hours or you could do it continuously or whatever option you want to up there you just have a lot of selection in terms of your screen saver and for your wallpapers now what you'll notice is that when you first install mac osnoma not everything is available you have to download these individually so you can see I'm on the Dubai Skyline right now and it's not loading up as my wallpaper because it's currently downloading that's what this little circle right here is and unfortunately it does not show how long is remaining for that download and also if you go to another wallpaper that is not currently downloaded it just resets the previous one you can only download one at a time you'll see this little download Arrow next to it as well to signify you need to download it one of my personal favorites is the Greenland evening so we're going to keep it right there now also at the top of the wallpaper section you'll see that we have add photo so you can easily add a photo from photos or choose a photo to add as a wallpaper and then add folder or album is now up top before this was down at the bottom of this section okay so we cannot go any further without talking about these widgets that you see on my home screen on my desktop here and that is new in Mac osinoma because before you only had widgets in the notification center so you'll see these right here these are what I had on Ventura and if you had widgets and you use them a lot in Ventura you could actually drag these over from your existing widgets and drag them onto the desktop and you'll notice you have a lot of flexibility you can move these pretty much anywhere you want you do have some constraints when you start getting close to the menu bar and things like that but you have a lot of flexibility with where you can move these and if you want to see all of the widgets available you can just two finger click and then go to edit widgets and then from here you'll get a little widget tray where you can see several widgets that you could add it to your home screen now you might be looking at some of these and saying those aren't Mac OS apps and you would be right and that's because this actually uses continuity to pick up on applications installed on your other devices like your iPhone or your iPad and you could use widgets from your iPhone or iPad on the Mac so for instance I have carrot that is an application I only have on iOS I can simply click on that and I can add that to my home screen even though I don't have that application installed on my Mac thanks to continuity and if you look in the top right hand corner when you click on that application it even says from iPhone and what's really cool about this is again all the flexibility you have with it but if you put a widget over some of your applications like I have over here take a look at how they kind of Shuffle around this widget and look how smooth that is I know it's not supposed to be aesthetic but I don't know what it is about the animations of those app icons but I like the smoothness and if you don't like one of the widgets you can just two finger press and you can either remove it from there you can change the size or you can edit widgets and add another one so I'm going to remove this one and we're going to go over here to my groceries now take a look at this because the widgets are also dynamic they are you know they work on the desktop so if I wanted to mark off dry for example or bread if I just select it you can see it marks it off of my grocery list carrot cake done I can do that even if I'm in another application let's just say I'm in my settings right here I can go over and press on that and you can see it works even when I'm in another application it's super convenient now you might have also noticed that the appearance of these widgets seems to to be changing so right now they're grayscale and then when I click you can see that they turn into their full color and that's because you can adjust that yourself so if you go into your settings and then to desktop and Dock and then if you scroll down a bit you'll see a new section called widgets so from here you have the option to either show or hide widgets altogether so if I wanted to hide them I could do that by clicking right there and then we have widget style so automatic makes them monochrome when you're not on the desktop like when you're in another application and then when you go to the desktop they turn into their full color or you could set it to be monochrome or full color at all times so if I choose full color you'll notice they change to their full color right there I personally really like the monochrome look so I'm going to keep that on permanently and then you do have the option to use iPhone widgets and you can even select which iPhone you want to use the widgets from again this uses continuity to pick up on the applications installed so you can use those widgets on your Mac and like I mentioned one of my favorite things about the widgets is the fact that you can change the size on the Fly you don't have to remove the widget and create a whole new one you could just you know change the size on the Fly and that is something that I wish iOS and iPad OS would get now if we go back into our settings and go back to the desktop and Doc section right above where we had widgets we have desktop and Stage manager and here we have a brand new feature as well where we can show items on our desktop or only show them in stage manager or neither so items refers to what you see right here on our desktop so there used to be apps in the past that I would download to clean up my desktop just because it looked so ugly with all my screenshots but now with Mac OS Sonoma you don't need a third party for that or you don't need to organize it yourself because you could just simply hide them so if I uncheck on desktop take a look at that I don't have any items that show up on my desktop now and it looks so clean except for I have all these widgets in the way well we can solve that because right here under widgets we can turn off on desktop and now now my widgets will only show when I'm in stage manager so you can still see them when you're in stage manager if you use that a lot and they can be hidden when you're on your actual desktop so that's some nice customizability you get there and Stage manager also has its own kill switch right here and then show recent apps and Stage manager and show windows from an application one at a time or all at once these are separate sections now whereas before in Ventura you had to click on customize to change these things and then last but not least under the desktop and Stage manager settings we have click wallpaper to reveal desktop so this is a pretty controversial Feature A lot of people either love it or hate it so what this does is let me just show you if I turn this to always if you go into an application and you go over onto the desktop to the left of this anywhere where there's blank space and press on the desktop it will hide all windows that are currently active so you can see everything on the desktop including your widgets and all of your icons your saved files that you have here and then press it again in and it brings everything back into view we have a new typing indicator system wide so you'll see right here in reminders it is blue it's also a little bit thicker than what we saw in the previous versions and then here in notes for example it's yellow so the typing indicator just takes you know the dominant color of the application and it changes accordingly and if I put caps mode on you will see in caps lock we now have a new indicator to show us that we are in caps lock so when you stop typing it shows up but as you're typing it's not there to distract you and this is great for if you have a password you're typing in and you might need to know if you're in caps lock or not this can notify you that you may be potentially putting in the wrong passcode because of caps lock being on we also now have a predictive text so if I start typing out something and if I press space when it has a prediction pointed out to me so it says predictable is what it thinks I'm going to type if I tap space if I tap on the space bar it will put in that word and sometimes it will keep going like it can keep guessing what you're going to type and obviously this takes a lot of time for machine learning to understand how you type on your machine so this will get better with time but so far I like predictive text but at the same time if you are a really fast typer or if you don't make many mistakes you might want to disable that so you can actually do that if you go into your system settings and then down to keyboard and then to input sources if you tap on the edit right there you will see that we have a new Option here for show inline predictive text and you can turn that off and that will disable the predictive text feature autocorrect is also much better in Mac OS Sonoma just like we see on iOS and iPad OS is 17. so if you type out something wrong you will see the underline and if you Arrow back to go back to that you will see we have a new little option here to revert back to what we typed the first time instead of the correction where it autocorrected it so we can go back to that easily dictation has also been improved and we can now dictate text and then type and then dictate again without having to press the dictate button more than one time so if we press on the dictate button here on our keyboard first off that you can see that we have a new indicator there and it's starting to dictate what I am saying but if I start typing you can see it will stop and it just lets me type whatever I want but when I stop typing it will continue with what I am saying so that is new in Mac osinoma that's something that we had on iOS before but this is new to Mac OS Sonoma and I also have to say that the dictation is much more accurate than it was on Mac OS Ventura so you can see what I typed out right there from my voice pretty accurate especially because Ventura wasn't the best for me okay so since we're in the Notes application let me show you one of my favorite features in Mac OS Sonoma and that has to do with PDF editing so when you load a PDF into the Notes application you could just simply drag that file right here onto notes and you will see it right here first off it gets a name now so it names the notes instead of just having it be a new note or a blank name it now shows you know the title of that and then also right here you will see a big difference in how that PDF is displayed so take a look at this we can scroll vertically and see every page of that PDF very easily we could also show or hide the thumbnails we have this view up top if you click on this drop down right here not only does it show the size right there it says PDF document and the size we also have a view as we have three different sizes we can view this as so that is the small you just saw the medium and then here is the large where we can see everything and again we're scrolling over here horizontally so we can have everything in a big nice and easy to read view now also right here we have a markup and this is where the magic really happens if you go into markup you can see you have all your pages right here and if you hover over these text Fields you can easily mark up and type into there but it gets even better because if you go to let's just say address for example we can now autofill an address so if you two finger press and then go to autofill you can see that we now have contact and passwords so if I go to contact for example and then I go to a contact that I have an address associated with and then I press on that address it autofills it right there and again the same goes for passwords if I go here and then go to passwords yeah I will have to put in my password and then it will load up all of my passwords and I can AutoFill in very easily and one thing to note here as well is that this whole markup sequence takes place inside of the Notes application we're still in notes before on Mac OS if you wanted to mark up anything it would have to be in the preview application so this pretty much eliminates the need for preview if you're marking up in notes but that's not even all because we can also highlight certain things as well so if I go over to this page and if I wanted to highlight where somebody needs to sign their name all I need to do is Select that text and then we have an option for highlights and now that is highlighted so the person knows they need to sign their name there and it's same if I need to if they need to print their name we can have that highlighted as well and you can also remove that if you need to by selecting it again and then pressing and then remove we can also now link to other notes and Mac osinoma just like we can on iOS and iPad OS so if you type 2 greater than signs back to back you have the option to link to one of these notes right here so if I go ahead and link to this note for example it shows right there with a notes glyph next to it and if I click on that it will take me straight in to that note if I do the same thing here to go back to this note you can see we can go back and forth between notes which is pretty convenient we also get some new features for video calls and Mac OS Sonoma so I have zoom pulled up right here you can see my face right here and if we go up to the status bar up top you will see that we have a purple icon and when we click on that it shows our preview of our video feed right there and then right below that it shows our camera and below that it shows where we can adjust our portrait our studio lights and also gives us the option for reactions so you can change how intense the portrait mode is along with the studio lights and you can see it changing right there and then we do have reactions as well so these are are actually AR based reactions if I put like a thumbs up for example it will show a thumbs up in AR as you can see right there and same if I do a heart it will emulate a heart on the screen I guess I'm not the best at making a heart but if I do two thumbs up for example you can see it does that sometimes it will do fireworks if it detects both thumbs that are up at the same time so it's a little bit finicky you have to get it just right but there are new gesture based actions that you can do and of course if you want to manually do it you can just click on these right here and it will give you that effect so this is like a rainstorm we have confetti we have fireworks you know we have lasers balloons we have all of that so pretty cool you can press it if you want to or you can just use your hands to gesture for it and it will automatically make that AR reaction for you but it gets even better because we have another new feature called presenter overlay and if you start sharing your screen so I am sharing this window right here if I click on the purple icon in the status bar again when you're screen sharing you will see a a new Option down here called presenter overlay and if we click on small you will see the preview of what it looks like we can see our little face down there in the bottom left hand corner and this is what it will look like on the other person's screen what you see in this preview right here so just a little version of us it's kind of like a picture-in-picture of the screen with us showing in the bottom left and the large version reverses that it's our full background with the window or our screen kind of in the background as like a picture in picture again you can kind of point to things like that kind of like the popular Tick Tock style where you see somebody have their screen in the background and they're pointing to it like that you can now do that by default with this new presenter overlay feature and you can also hover over the green icon on one of these windows and that will allow you to quickly and easily screen share that specific window and if you're using continuity camera in a video call like on a zoom call or a FaceTime call your face will now be detected and you will be re-centered in the frame without even needing center stage and also if you're using another camera like my 14 pro here if I'm using continuity camera you can see that if I go up here to the purple I can actually change which lens is being used for Center Stage so if I turn center stage on also it shows my battery percentage there for the phone as well that's new and if you go to Center Stage you could choose between the main or the ultra wide lens and it will change that accordingly so that is really awesome and then of course you have all these different options here as well and then we have another new one here called desk View and this allows you to basically get a top-down view without your phone necessarily facing straight down so if I had my phone just facing upwards it would you know allow us to do a desk view also anywhere you pull up a movie recording or anywhere where you can see yourself like this you will notice up in the top status bar you will now have a menu item here a purple or sometimes it could be a different color right there in the status bar and you can see your preview and you can adjust your portrait your studio light and you have the reactions right here along with the the mic mode so before in previous iOS versions or Mac OS versions you would have to go into the control center and then you know adjust it in here but now it's much easier with its own Standalone section in the status bar everything is just in one and while we're on the topic of video calls if you use air pods on your Mac and you like the auto switching feature where you auto switch music or you auto switch you know your microphone from a Mac to an iPhone and vice versa that used to be absolutely terrible but now with Mac OS Sonoma it's actually good again so I'd recommend that if you had Auto switching turned off because it was so bad before I would turn that on again because it's awesome with the airpods and Mac osinoma heading into Safari we have some nice changes here as well so if we go to our favorites right here underneath of the address bar and just right click or two finger press on one of these you will see we have a new Option here for show icons so now you can quickly and easily show your favorites icons with a click we also have a profile and Safari and I find these to be much more useful on the Mac than on iPad or on iPhone so you can see right here I'm in my work and if I click on the little drop down right there you can see for work I have one Tab and I get all these different options right here where I can also open a new personal Leisure or work window and these are the three profiles that I have set up so what you want to do is go into Safari and then to settings and then over here you'll see a new section for profiles and in here you will see personal that is the defaults but you want to create a new one so you can customize it to your liking so let's just say we have one for business and we can choose you know what icon we want for that we can choose the main colors that go with that profile you can choose which favorites are shown so all these things that you see under the address bar you can change which ones are shown for this specific one so you can create a new bookmarks folder or use an existing one that you already had we'll create a new one and now once we have that created you can see that we have our business profile set up and then right here we can change some additional things so new windows open with and you could set this to be you know if you wanted to open it with the start page which is what you see right here an empty page the same page or tabs for business so it'll open up all of your tabs and you have the same for new tabs open with you can change that between those three as well and then if we go over to extensions you can change which extensions are enabled or disabled on a per profile basis and I just find Profiles In general to be so useful for organizing things especially when it comes to the favorites bar like right here underneath of the address bar I like that to be different on a per profile basis and also when you go up to file if you ever want to open up a new window you can choose you know which window you want to open that in like if you want to open a new window in a specific profile you can do that from right here and you also have certain hotkeys that you can use to open up a window in a specific profile and one thing to note here as well is that when you have profile set up your web history your favorites pretty much everything is saved to that profile specifically so if I were to go and go to apple.com slash you know Mac for example that would not show up in my history for my other profiles it will only show up in my history for my business profile because that's what I'm in right here you can now select multiple tabs at one time and move them around together so if you have multiple tabs opened up in Safari and you hold down on the command key and then just press on the different tabs you can see they all turn white in this instance they will all match you could also press on another one while you're holding down the command key to unselect it but once you have them all selected you can just drag and you will see that we have the little three right there indicating that we have three tabs that we are trying to move and you can move these around in the tab section right up here or you can even move them into a tab group all at once we also have some changes to private windows so if we go ahead and open up a new private window you will notice us that it is locked I need to put in my touch ID or my password to view that locked tab so that is a new feature in Mac ossonoma as well so if you go into the settings and then to privacy and then right here we have private browsing require Touch ID to view locked tabs but my favorite feature in Safari is the fact that we can now have web applications in the dock so basically you can use any website like an application so if you go to my website right here if we go down you will see we have a new option for add to Dock and if you press on that you now get the option to choose what you want that to be titled so like for example down here I have one called the Apple Dan and I can change this to whatever I want and I can also change that URL along with the icon right there if you want the icon to be different from the default favicon you can change that as well if we click on add all of a sudden that's now down there in the dock and it's just like an application so if I open up this other one that I made for the Apple Dan it opens it up and essentially its own little application and it can see up here it even shows the name of that application it's not just in Safari it's really like its own you know third-party application which is really cool and extremely handy especially for things like Google Docs so go ahead and go to Google Docs we're going to add this to the dock because I use Google Docs all the time this can be just a quick and easy way to access that website from the dock without having to go into Safari at all we have some really interesting security features in Mac OS Sonoma so if we go over to the advanced tab right here and then under the Privacy section we have use Advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection so you can choose to have this only in private browsing or in all browsing and what this does is it will prevent you know websites and different companies from tracking you with extreme Precision so a digital fingerprint is much worse and much more effective than cookies are you know when you have cookies on a website you can only see so much data but with a digital fingerprint you can see much more so these companies and these websites can see a lot more information about you and if you want that to cover over into all browsing and not just private browsing you can do that right there now keep in mind this will also eliminate like different parameters in URLs so if you have like a reference URL or you know other things added into a URL it will cut those out and in the tabs section we have a new option for automatically closing tabs so you could do that now after one day one week or one month or just keep it on manually we can now share passwords and pass keys with family so you'll see the option right here and if you go to get started you can change the name of the groups if you want to name it you know Butch family in my example you can do that and you could add people right here so when you click on ADD people it will have suggestions or you can add people by putting in their name email or phone number so you could add your family members right there and then if you click on create you might get this option right here that says update devices to access shared passwords so these are going to be you know devices that are not updated to the latest firmware version or the latest software version where it's going to continue and then here is where you can choose the passwords that you want to share in this group with your family and here's what it looks like once you have that all set up you have a manage button right here we can manage everybody in the group or delete it and you have this little plus right here where you can add a new password move passwords to group or add people and while we're in this section we also have the password options section where we have Verification codes and you can clean these up automatically as well so this allows you to delete two-factor authentication codes and messages in mail after you insert that code with autofill so definitely a feature I recommend that you turn on and if you go to the search tab we also have another setting that's new for private browsing where you can change the default search engine so you can keep it as the same as your regular Windows search engine or you can change it to maybe something like DuckDuckGo but that's only for private browsing and then over here we have a new developer panel so before this was up in the window section up top like next to bookmarks but now it's right here inside of a settings you can see this is what it looked like before it was just all kind of in here and now we also have feature Flags so this is something that's new here as well and this just replaces the experimental features section of the develop menu which we had previously also Apple's password manager is now available in third-party browsers like Chrome so with this extension you can now autofill passwords from your iCloud keychain along with the ability to save new passwords from the Chrome browser you don't have to be in Safari anymore so this extension was available on Windows for a while but it just came out to the Mac with this new Sonoma update you also now get enhanced extension control so this allows you to use per site privacy settings to control access for all extensions that access your user data so you can see all of that in at the extensions Tab and if you're into gaming you will be pleased to know that there is a new game mode in Mac OS Sonoma so if you open up any game and you put it in the full screen mode you will notice up in the top right so we'll go right here and we'll go to toggle full screen take a look up in the top right hand corner you will see it says game mode on and it prioritizes the performance of this game while in full screen and what this game mode does is it essentially just lowers the usage of background tasks that way your machine can give a full CPU and GPU priority to the game and the best part about it is that it also reduces latency with Wireless accessories so if you have air pods to listen to the game or if you use a PS5 or Xbox controller you will not have as much lag or latency as before there's also DirectX 12 support that's been added with Mac OS Sonoma which is really nice and if you have a mouse connected you will be pleased to know that pointer acceleration can now be disabled on Mac OS for the first time and I find this to be much better than having to use linear Mouse to disable the acceleration the screen sharing application has been worked at Mac osinoma and there's also a new high performance mode that enables highly responsive remote access over high bandwidth connections so this is only available for silicon Max so M1 and later but this is a nice addition to the screen sharing app there's also a new print screen so if we go to print something right here we'll go to print you can see we have print center down here so print center has returned with Mac osinoma if we head over to our screen time settings we have quite a few changes here so first off everything is organized much better so we have header titles for activity limit usage communication and restrictions before everything was just one jumbled mess and then also we have app and website activity whereas before it was just app usage if we head down to limit usage we have a new option for screen distance just like on iOS and iPad OS this is to reduce eye strain and the risk of myopia in children so that you stay further back from your Mac screen so you can enable that from there and then we also have communication safety here so this is going to detect nude photos and videos before they're sent or viewed on your child's device so you can turn that on from there as well and if you go down to the bottom you can now disable app and website activity without turning off screen time altogether so like if I turn this off for example you can see that screen time is still on for certain things like if I wanted to have my communication limit set you know and things like that it's still on I don't turn screen time off completely just by having that turned off so if I wanted to turn it back on I could just go back into here and turn on but that is new and then also right here where it says lock screen time settings that is new verbiage because before it just said use a screen time passcode and also you might have noticed throughout this video as I've been going in and out of finder we have these back and forward arrows and these are extremely useful for going in and out of different sections and settings so like if I go to all of these different sections and then I go back so take a look at this it hops me back into notifications if I go back again it takes me back to sound if I go back again it takes me to focus and again to screen time if we head into accessibility we now have a change to live captions it used to say beta next to it but now it's just live captions I guess it's out of beta we have a new glyph icon next to voiceover under motor and then we have two new options here under speech so we have live speech and personal voice now I talked about these in my iOS 17 video but you can create your own essentially AI generated voice of yourself to kind of mimic yourself and use that for live speech in the control center settings if we go all the way down we have some options for automatically hide and show the menu bar so you can do that always on desktop only and full screen only or never in the Siri and Spotlight settings we now have the ability to not have to say hey before the S words if you go right here for a listen for you can change that from hey s to just saying the s word without the hey before forehand and don't worry you're not going to have as many false triggers as you think but that is where you can change that now if you go down to privacy and security we have a new section in here all the way down at the bottom for sensitive content warning and this will detect nude photos and videos before they are viewed on your Mac so this is different from the screen time feature where that was essentially just set up for children this is more so for you and you could turn this on if you want to and it will block those explicit photos before you can view them and then if we go back into this section and go up to the top and then go to location services and then go down to system services and go to details we have a new Option up top for alerts and shortcut automations so that is a new system service in Mac ossonoma also in the privacy and security section we have some changes to lockdown mode so now when you go on to this it's its own little page here and if you press turn on it gives you this little window here that shows what it's about and it tells you all that before you turn it on whereas before once you press turn on it would just basically go into that mode we have some changes to Stage manager so stage manager before to the right of it it just had a customize button and when you pressed on that you have the options for recent applications and desktop items all of that but now it's just all in this section right here you don't have to go into a separate window in the lock screen section we have some changes here as well so we have show large clock and you can change this to show on the lock screen lock screen and screen saver or never and you have all these other settings here for the lock screen as well and the photos application the people tab is now people and pets so this includes your favorite people and also the pets in your life also visual lookup is much better so if you go to a picture of food for example and you click on the I right here it will find recipes that it thinks will make the food that you have in the image you can also now generate an iCloud link on Mac OS when you want to share photos and videos that are stored in iCloud the weather application also gets a similar treatment so if we go ahead and open up the weather application this has also been updated just like on iOS and iPad OS 17 and I just love the weather app on Mac for whatever reason it's so big you can see everything at a glance without having to scroll and you can see everything new right here including the wind and if we go into our map right here we will have a new wind map so if you go to wind you can see the animations of the Wind on the map which is really cool to see especially when there's hurricanes out there in the ocean it's really cool and kind of satisfying to see those we have our averages so if you go into the averages section you can see the averages for today so you can see today was much hotter than it has been recently so it was 93 whereas the normal range is 78 to 88 so you can kind of compare you know the monthly average and things like that you can see all the different months the averages for those along with the precipitation as well in the mail application you will now see travel related emails at the top of your search results as your trip dates approach so if you have like an email from your airline or your hotel and you search for that it will always show at the Top If your trip date is close you can now add big emojis into your messages in mail I'm not sure who sends emojis via email but you can do that right there if you like it but easily my favorite feature in mail is the fact that when you download an attachment from an email you now get this mail icon next to it in your finder so this is the PDF I just downloaded and if you hover over that it will show show in mail and when you click on that it will take you to the exact message where that attachment was downloaded from but it gets even better because if you go into finder and you right click right here you have the option to reply to the sender straight from your finder application from an attachment that you downloaded how crazy is that when you click on it it takes you right into here and you're already composing a reply to that message with the attachment in there the reminders application gets an update so we now have grocery lists so if you go to add a new list down here in the bottom left and we go to list type you can now choose grow groceries and what this does is it automatically uses sections using machine learning so if you go down here to groceries I have this one for example now let's say this layout is a little bit too small I want to make this bigger well if we go to the view tab up here at the top we can now view as columns so now we get a column view where we can just go over like this and if we want to make this a little bit bigger you can see we can now fit a lot more on the screen when we have this type of view where it's more of a column based View and it goes horizontal and also when you add something into the grocery list so let's just say I add I don't know Diet Coke so if I add Diet Coke right there and if I added it to produce you can see we get a suggestion to move it to the beverages section and I can move that right there and of course if you just add a new item in general it will auto populate or it will auto categorize it so if I just type in kiwi for example you can see it automatically put that over here in produce also in notes we have a new paragraph style so if you go to paragraph Styles when you have something selected we now have mono spaced and here's what that new style looks like like and you can also now finish a note in pages from the share sheet in the messages application again we have the same features that we see in iOS 17 but I'm just going to focus on the ones that I mainly find use for on a Mac OS and the first one would have to be the new search filters so if I search for messages from my dad if I just type in dad I now have the option for Dad right there and then after that it gives me some previews here so I can do link photo location let's just say I want to only see photos that my dad sent there we go now I can see all the photos that were sent from my dad and of course you can do this on a per conversation basis as well like in a group chat or anything like that you have a lot of flexibility with the search filtering and then also stickers are really fun on Mac OS Sonoma so if you go to the a right here to the left of messages you have stickers and from here you can see all the stickers that you have and of course you can react to a message you can put these in here you can put these in the freeform application which is where I use stickers most of the time and you just have a lot of flexibility with them and using them really anywhere you want I could them on the desktop anything like that in the find my application you can now share an air tag or a find my accessory with up to five people so you can see the section right here share this item also in the home application in addition to the interactive widgets we also have activity history so this can be useful on the Mac specifically so you can see all of the history for your home kit enabled devices and then for my video editing peeps out there there's now faster video encoding if you're using an M1 Ultra or M2 Ultra machine in Final Cut Pro compressor and other third-party video apps and then a few other very minor UI changes that you might not notice unless you look closely is that the spotlight search is more rounded off if you look at the edges it's just a little bit more rounded off and same goes with the dock and even the app icons are just slightly more rounded than they were in Ventura so that is Mac OS Sonoma I hope you enjoyed this video If you want to get your hands on a PDF file that's going to cover a lot of these settings you might want to change in mac osinoma and some of the other big features that you might forget two months from now I will have that link down in the description below you will get it as a perk for becoming a member on Brandon butch.com so it also helps support me
