Locksport Tips - Raking and Picking Masterlock No.3

hey guys it's lock-picking magician here lately I have been seeing a bunch of posts on the lock-picking reddit sub people saying I just can't get into this master number 3 I can't break it I can't pick it this is a white belt really entry level lock that we all start with a lot of us start with so let's take a look at it and oh just a little magic there for you I am the lock-picking magician anyway so we've got a master number three here let's look at the key bidding all right and I'm gonna show you guys a few things that I think maybe might help you have a little more success with this lock so when raking it you got to think about a few things here this is a four pin standard pin there's no security pins in here these things are pretty easy to rake open but you've got to you've got to make sure you're thinking about over setting so I have found certain rakes if they have really high peaks over set some of these locks so think about your tension wrench how much space it's taking up and think about how much tension you're putting on it and also how you're going about attacking it I don't have much luck raking master locks by really you know really just raking them just going straight in and out in and out I usually have better luck with kind of a combination of sort of raking and rocking and I found that if I use some tension wrenches like this guy here bottom of a key way and put this in it is pressing up you know it's taking up a lot of the space on the bottom of the key way and when I put my rake in you know I probably am over setting so I sit there and I struggle and I just can't get it to open but I find that if I use something like this or I can a little shorter reach in there maybe it's just giving me a little more space and I'll put this I'll put this in and give it kind of meeting of tension wrench attention and then I'm using a worm here which had just you know this is all just random luck but I'll put some pressure on it and let's try that again about medium tension and just come in and look at that and I can do that just about every time so you got to play around with each of these to find you know that right combination and another trick is after a few attempts if I've over set there's no point in sitting here fighting this thing forever and ever I start over release that pressure let those pins drop and give it another shot again you're just playing the odds see ya this time not working so well let's try it again a little pressure maybe a little more pressure after a couple of tries reset try it again there it goes so a lot of resetting right when I rake I will try and see I'm kind of you'll watch me kind of go on like this with my finger and I'm kind of coming in and then I release it what I'm doing is I'm I'm kind of randomly applying that pressure and then once I I've tried for a few seconds then I let it go and you'll hear it click I let it go so let's try just raking so it's so tight in here I can't really even rate but all I just kind of vary this pressure to where I'm barely touching it all the way to heavier pressure but I have found with this one that this is taken up way too much space it's much longer and so that pick when it comes in here I am probably over setting this immediately whereas for some reason this one maybe there's some there's some pins you know maybe it's pin three and four that this one happens to not it gives me a little more space so I don't over set it you can also try things like put a thinner one down in the bottom here so you really get it out of the way that's a lot easier to rake it against the I'll go for a second then I'll release it and if you want to try something with some some more you know some higher Peaks like a triple peak this could give you more room so that's raking alright now let's talk about single pin picking and that's what I've really noticed a lot lately on the reddit sub is people saying I just cannot single pin pick this thing it's killing me what do we do about that so well I'm gonna show you is again you got to really think about over setting so you might try something like this versus something like this as your tension wrench you put your attention wrench in here and come in here with something like a Peterson's gem in eighteen thousandths it's tight there's hardly any space I'm over setting it I can tell so maybe you go with something it just gets in there just enough to hold it you know to give you that tension and this one here it's a fork again it's a four pin I happen to know the the binding order on this is too start over here I still it's really tight I'm not getting it let's try that should be a - there's a quick one again to see it's just very tight in there I haven't had to lean it all the way forward here to get underneath that so in that case maybe you might be wiser to go with something like this sparrows to a nice click on to now see I'm over sitting again there we go okay so the binding order on this one is two one three four and you know once I learned the binding order on it on a lock I make notes I write it down you know I have figured out the secret to this lock that's so think think about that something you can do is take the key hold that pick against the bottom of it where that's writing in and make sure you can you could come in and lift those and if you add in you know the thickness of of this tension wrench you know you're really making it hard on yourself alright how about picking it with top of the key way let's put this in the vise here okay so top of the key way with a 50 thousandths thick wrench and a Petersons 18 thousandths Jim so I've come in here and fine to click one that was one I've over said it it's not us started on to let's try it again let's find one make sure those pins have dropped it is locked if that was too I dropped one okay so now I've over set these so let's start over trying to do this with this camera kind of in my view there we go [Music] there's one there we go okay so the trick with this is medium not like this isn't light like you're doing on you know the real-life feather-light kind of tensioning you would do on America and 1100 this is pretty pretty good pressure not heavy heavy I'm not bending the pry bar you know but and I'm finding the binder which is in this case and then I find it's pretty stiff and then I just slowly push it up till I get that click that was - there was one okay I may have over set one there it goes so there you have it top of the key way pretty heavy pressure and find the binder and then just really slowly with that good you feel real stiff you know pressure back feedback and you just go real slow until you hear a nice click and then find the next binder and well guys I hope that that can help you to pass these master number three so you can start working your way up thanks for watching
