so [Music] welcome to riverside park yankton south dakota on the banks of the missouri river for the 2021 hyundai archery world cup final we're in the 15th edition of this event and today we'll be featuring the re-curve events it's just a few weeks since the end of the delayed olympic games and just a few days since the end of the world championships right here in yankton now it's time for the season finale well the weather sock is pretty steady there no wind at all at the moment and the weather has played a part here over this double header of world championships and hyundai archery world cup finals as i said we're featuring the recurve events and in this session the last of this international season we've got the elite eight in the recurve men's quarterfinals and we'll go through until we crown the 2021 hyundai archery world cup final champion well eight men go up for this title let's go and take a look at them india ellison united states look for some more virgin islands italy turkey well what a line-up we've got the reigning champion the reigning olympic champion we've got olympic medalists from tokyo and amongst all that we also have some surprise youngsters coming through quarterfinal number one here at the yankton 2021 hyundai archery world cup final for the recurve men and it is the reigning champion who will start things off [Music] [Applause] [Music] representing italy [Applause] i'm karen bashir and joining me for this session is former world number one nikki hunt nikki we've got a man here in brady ellison going for his record-breaking sixth my under archery world cup final title up against a man who loves the big competition and it is in fact a repeat of last time's final in moscow in 2019 thoughts this is gonna be a tough match both him want to win gosh let's see what's going to happen brady ellison going for history here maro nespoli though he's a massive opponent that came out of the draw ellison to get us underway where the arrow went [Applause] a little bit movement on his side bags of experience between these two 32 and 33 allison going for the big one finishes with a 10 so the sighter of the eight very quickly fixed and has already put this set out of reach of mourinho nine to finish for a 26 for the italian first two set points for brady ellison but early days um nikki a few drop points from nespoli he looks pretty relaxed but wow what a performance we've seen from him in the last few weeks absolutely i mean that wasn't a bad group at all just uh sort of low and left i'm sure he'll make the adjustments he needs to bring them in so not bad shooting just needs to react and get them into the tent yeah huge amounts of experience as a team olympic silver in 2008 team gold in 2012 picked up for his first individual medal at the olympic games just a few weeks ago in tokyo brady ellison had a disappointing olympic games i think it's fair to say his very high standards it's been an interesting road for him in corona virus times if those olympic games had not been delayed brady ellison was the standout favorite he came away from the delayed games without a medal two-nil up here in this quarter-final nest of italy to shoot first in the second holding draw look at that arrow the clicker moving in and out [Applause] just got stuck in here full draw saw the clicker start to move and then almost a little tiny reset full draw didn't make a difference to him though didn't it he came out with a 10 nest belly hits another nine brady allison he's had some jitters you have to say by his very very high standards over the last few weeks it looks very strong here though oh just hitting his other arrow not quite getting the deflection into the ten minute you wanted well another set for brady ellison looking very strong indeed not too much wrong with nespoli though he's just looking a little bit shaky you can see a few nerves um but you know three nines just not normally enough at this level particularly in these conditions so you know got it up that level a little bit marking those arrows why do they do that okay so if there was a bouncer the arrow came straight back out the target again there would be a hole without lining on and they would know the arrow had landed and that would count even if it bounced out yes so just watch brady here with the arrow another clicker that was we saw a little bit of movement i was hoping we'd see that in the slow-mo where so the clicker is like a draw length indicator and as he comes through you start to see the clickers start to drop as it slopes down the the point of the arrow and you can actually feel that pressure then if you move forward ever so slightly and really got a bit of that feedback and that's why there was a little bit of movement there that made no difference stuck it into the tent in spite of that four nil up so nespali has to fight back right now he's just not settling into the shot again watch brady with a clicker quite different stabilization set up from these two necessarily shooting flat with his sidebars and brady's pointing down at quite an angle but again it's about what suits the individual arches in it it's not that one is right and the other one's wrong is it no absolutely it's all individual setup how you like hold the balance the feel of the bow you know when you're holding it as well as how it comes out of your hand as well well you can see the tension there that full draw goes up into the eight so an eight will be enough to do this one in nine arrows and the perfect start for brady ellison of course it's a 10 to finish for a 29 solid shooting from the american going for history here after his sixth hyundai archery world cup finals title great deal of humility there sporting a be cat both of them in fact uh his wife who represented slovenia here brady ellison cap boasting that they are adjustable but to fit heads of different sizes even your scream oh have you been buoyed by the fighting spirit and confident mood there of brady ellison i'm not sure you're suggesting my head as big or small actually to be honest with you uh brady ellison's cat will fit it either way uh brilliant performance from him he's through to the semi-finals let's take a look back on that full draw nespali did look a little bit tense smile at kinds of expressions coming out on the face of nestle can't quite believe he didn't shoot too bad but a couple of eights in there no tens also not looking completely comfortable throughout but did more than enough time now for the second quarter final here in yankton that's another one with a story behind it we are going to see an indian superstar go up against someone who's risen the ranks this season [Applause] [Music] [Applause] well world number seven atani das from india is 29 years old qualified by winning the first stage in guatemala city for this competition and he goes up against the german max beckmuller world number nine just 26 year old and he qualified as a point scorer but tony das has got a story behind him superstar isn't he yeah he is he didn't just compete though at the world championships we've just had here in yankton so will that give him any disadvantage vector of course did but it will be a tiny dust to get this quarterfinal underway on number seven shooting for a place in the semi-finals [Applause] good grouping just gonna make those adjustments through the four men on this range so far all gone left for their first arrows beckman has put himself in a good position here tony das needs to put down a big arrow to put some pressure on into the nine 26 from him smiling as ever atari darth shoots with joy for a 27 is enough for the points but a bit of a curious spread there from but he does lead the german two-nil after the first set yeah i think you know tony does probably shot the better group perhaps feeling a bit better about his shots and having a good confidence level he's just gonna make those adjustments to his site whereas yeah that's a little bit of a an odd arrow that ate from brett miller we thought he was sort of centered on the target and a little bit uncharacteristic to go to the eight another husband and wife combo on the field of play two quarter finals rogue ellison teaming up with his wife toyah antara das with his wife just watching these releases in slow-mo a little bit of the flare of the fingers from mueller on that second arrow very different third arrow straight around his neck but i'm not happy with that one time for the second set a tiny dose training pin inside a little scope there's no magnification allowed for the recurves looks like he's found the right spot now that first arrow he just made an adjustment with his front arm to bring it across that's a much better shot can relax a little bit here and he needs a seven to put this out of reach of course he won't here we're going for the 10. just clipping the line for a 29 but it's all square mcmillan needs to make the most of the practice that comes with this arrow for the next set and does indeed it's another nine better looks like he's dialed in on the center nikki yeah looking much more calm and confident um you know i said before in that first set he he shot a good group he just went in the middle and he's made that adjustment now that first area as i said just moving it across his front arm he thought it was going to go a bit left again making a fine adjustment but mcmilla struggling a little bit in the middle i wonder if those flaming fingers again was the difference with rick mother's shot smile again smiled at the end of the last one where he lost two set points smiled at the end of the second where he won them just very happy man to be out here on the field the the season finale it's got a little bit of a last day of school feel about it itching i guess to get to the party which i'm sure will be fun this evening start of the third time with the first arrow still in the center of the target this time in the nine watch this release hand of white miller [Music] [Applause] well there was a chance there to level up in this set he didn't quite make it and things have turned around here in the favor of atanu das he took a set to get himself into this but now looks incredibly solid yeah shooting really well as neat this group still a little bit to the left which is why i just lost the one point on that set but looking confident strongly shots left deep breath a smile i'm sure we're going to see again vec muller a little bit more serious in his approach and again there's no criticism it's just an observation but you see those all left to center the finger up to salute and there is the smile again it's really nice to see an athlete enjoying themselves under this high pressure situation time for the fourth set of vec muller draw the arms and the muscles shaking there yeah and he made a bit of a correction as well didn't he he knew that was going to go left he tried to fling his bow arm over to correct it but not quite enough very solid from turning going straight towards the target faster shot straight in 10. yes needs a big one just outside on nine again for another 28 so a chance here for atarnu das to take this needs a nine gets a nine and he is through to the semi-finals here in yankton where he will face brady ellison of the usa what a mouth-watering prospect that is atarni das has set up a thriller here in yankton and he has shot brilliantly one set to set himself up and then all the way [Applause] waiting for confirmation of course and there it is the fist bump mark of respect between all of the athletes and coaches as well coach on the indian side is another of the athletes happens confirmation from the target judge as well atomic das through to the semi-finals here in yankton well nick it took him a sec to find his way through to this but after that it was all one-way traffic yeah but i think in terms of his process and shot he he was great from the beginning he was just a bit left he had to make adjustments on his side to get into the middle it took him an end to do that and then it was 29 all the way to take the win fist bump and the smile a feature of a thai dash's presence on the podium shooting line fabulous from him coming up very shortly we'll move on to the bottom half of the draw two more quarter-finals to come here in yankton world cup first launch what year was it 1999 the answer is 15 years ladies and gentlemen as we are taking a short break is as well one of them right foreign oh all right ladies and gentlemen around the world [Applause] is number three [Applause] i know all right time now for the recurve men's quarterfinal number three here in yankton south dakota it's a spanish teenage sensation going up against a youngster from the home nation number one represent the united states of america [Applause] shooting on target number two representing spain [Applause] well jack williams has risen to number 11 in the world shooting for the usa just 21 years old you and sanchez just 19 came through as a points qualifier the pair of them and this is the future of international archery right in front of us nikki yeah it really is two big names that have risen after cobid doing really well home support obviously going to be with jack williams but it'll be in sanchez we'll get this quarterfinal underway good sightings from the pair of them good image there yan opening the bow and quite a key sickly style let's go dissimilar to what jack's doing as well i've got a good view of the process he went through there it's a really nice shot isn't it last alright can put this out of reach but he's put it in to the seven for a 25 and that now means jack williams can take the points here mine will be enough and nine it is for a 26 and a two little lead that will keep the crowd here in yankton delighted so you talked about a particular style mentioning a coach perhaps you better tell us a little bit more about that coach so kasich lee is you know the best coach in the world based himself in america for many many years now and you know he teaches a quite specific style away from the bow so um you can see with these guys they both kind of open the bow sort of wide if you like away from themselves away from their face get into a draw length and then coming in to anchor so it's quite specifically different because others kind of draw the boat in line with body so it's quite different you say different and obviously there's there are differences in what you've described where you're playing the string but why and which is better or is it is it just what you train with yeah i mean i guess it's down to the coach that you you work with and obviously that's the method that kisitly's employed with many of his athletes through america and being very successful with it so far it's jack williams who's had the most success only three hours shot though in this quarter-final john sanchez from spain starts the second doesn't get much [Applause] no reaction though just cracking back on with it a little high that one sanchez looking for a big number here just to put some pressure on williams longer hold let's put it into the 10. so finishes with the 27 now that could get marked up to a 28 so a 10 will definitely secure the points here for williams [Applause] provisionally he's got the points but we have to wait to see what happens with sanchez's first arrow marked as an eight but very very close to the line could get pumped up to a 9. looking at target 2 here look at jack a little bit shaking that front arm a little bit nerves but hey it's the dead center of the target sanchez so much at stake it's remained an eight for yon sanchez and it means jack williams [Music] despite his reservations with one or two of his shots it's four nil up do this and nine arrows what can you and sanchez do about jack williams he trails four nil here knowing these three arrows are absolutely critical he has to at least equal what williams scores to stay in this competition [Applause] gets fabulous alignment look at that elbow right behind him opens the body towards the target a little bit more [Applause] well they've matched each other here sanchez could do with another 10 here to put a little bit of pressure on jack williams that's a close one it's marked as an eight but with a start for a measure a 10 will definitely mean a win for jack williams here whatever happens to that measure he's got a nine so now the measure becomes all important 28 for jack williams confirmed a provisional 27 for june sanchez nikki and thoughts i wrote down a nine straight away i i thought it was in but maybe it was that close to the judge to have a good look well john sanchez needs it to be a nine to change the score to five one and give himself a fighting chance here in this quarter-final if it's not marked up he's out well 10-9-9 called for target number two and that's what yuan sanchez needed a 28 for him means he's still in the game he still trails by four but he's still got a chance two more sets to come and sanchez win them both and forced to shoot off just see that last hour again jack trying to pull that arm down he knew it's gonna be high trying to make that adjustment so set number four sanchez has shot well enough in the third for this reprieve slightly longer hold a bit more tension but dealing with it really well show me another one he knows and tries to drag the arm down but we didn't see any corrective movement on that one well sanchez now in a position where this is out of his hands a 10 is a perfect shot from him though for a 28 but a 9 and leveling up on 28 is all jack williams needs to make it through to the semi-finals nine is what he gets for a 28. they share the points in the third they share the points in the fourth and jack williams is through to the semi-finals beating eun sanchez of spain six points to two both the americans are through ellison on the top of the draw williams in the bottom we're yet to find out who he will face while waving to the camera and there's where those are jack williams is through and the supporters will be delighted there's one youngster in the crowd who has been here throughout the tournament both the world championships which finished last week and these archery world cup finals she deserves a medal herself for supporting the home nation archers we're talking about actions of dragging trying to drag the arrow down yeah it just looks like he's trying to drop his arm quickly doesn't he on some occasions his error tends to be high and i think this one again look just trying to drag it down he knew it was gonna be high do enough just to land it in the ten but not quite time now for the last of the quarter-finals here in yankton south dakota and what uh another mouse-watering prospect we have an olympic champion up against a rising superstar [Applause] [Music] well there you have it the introduction of the two archers as well number six nicholas damore is just 20 years old has burst on to the seam in his debut senior season goes up against a new olympic champion world number two from turkey is 22 years old gazos is a phenomenon but so is nicolas the more necky pressure's all on gazos here really isn't it i guess so yeah olympic champion you know can he come out here and get another gold medal so it's gonna be a tight one yeah and just to put things straight here nicholas de moore is the number two seed for this competition so two big names up against each other and more to get us underway okay just low it's been starred for a a measure group the second one does look like it might well be out of the 10 so 10 could do it here for gaza he does get the 10. we wait because this is a provisional score nikki what are your thoughts on that middle nine for damoir yeah it's difficult to say that one it did look close so judge has got to make that call using magnifying glass on both sides they deem it to be touching the line in any way it will be marked up just going through a bit technique with him i think he's trying to keep the shot moving perhaps and good execution well we've just about heard the call of 9 10 9 and a 28 for the more if that is the case we do wait for the confirmation it will be one apiece after the first set between these two superstars of the sport there is a confirmation down the end of the range one a piece set number two needed a measure to go his way to stay level with gazos another one really close again leaves his hand sling [Applause] to break clear a perfect score for him oh he's dropped it into the eight oh i didn't expect that and it's in fact nicholas the moore who's broken out into the lead and there you go you see what happens when you put down a big score and recurve archery you can't disrupt the olympic champion i think we've just gotta wait for a call on that first hour of nicosta moore we couldn't quite see where it landed it does look like it may have clocked the line just to double check we couldn't tell from our angle i think it has just come up on our scoreboard it would make a difference wouldn't it but i haven't seen it we think that first hour at the bottom there is just touching the ten line drops into the nine for the last arrow but wow we expecting that from kazos shrugs his shoulders and it was marked as a 10 for the american virgin islands athlete and he leads 3-1 merte gazos will get set number three underway trailing it's full of liners again it looks close just no movement so still foreign lots of communication between coaches and athletes both sides of the shooting line did you see the movement on that one have you watched his clicker there the arrow again just kind of moved a little bit forward before he made the shot so i think that's the reason behind the eight 27 then four but again we have to just wait for that measure on that first arrow for metagazos is it going to get marked up even looking coach and athlete it doesn't matter you know he's just going to go back out there shoot the best he can his preparation right now is more important than what the score is to him see that little movement that's what we saw at the clicker a little bit of a flinch just a tiny tiny one with the fingers to the last one right into the middle confident shot that one exactly what he needed these two spend quite a long time at full draw don't they and i think with gaza and that last and he just needs to keep it moving a little bit more maintain his back tension saw a little movement of his bow arm to try and pull it across but not enough i'll open the door for damore to get back in contention in this set both i'm kind of struggling the same thing long holds you know something i think there's some pressure on this yes check at the end of this for the winner plus the title of course it's back in the middle putting some pressure on the 28 and that means the more needs a 10 as well [Applause] and we are all square after four four a piece with one regulation set left to go there's not really the consistency that you've talked about is which is required here from either side of the shooting line yeah i wonder how much kind of fatigue mentally physically towards an end of a a very busy season for both these two athletes who have competed so much and at such a high level but both say suffering from the same thing really just long holds you need to keep that shot moving and execute it [Applause] so we can't separate the two the more opened up fought back to level up in the fourth so we're all square well let's be decided on the next well three arrows a shoot-off because to more to get us underway again great execution [Applause] a bit more shaking from this side a little soft shot maybe [Applause] needing the 10 for a win and 9 will mean a shoot-off anything less and de moore goes through oh just when you need your best okay gaza is there to deliver it his best score is best set in the whole match and when the chance came he took it kazos goes through 6-4 to face williams in the semi-final at this year's hyundai archery world cup finals a great shoot from nicolas de moore of the u.s virgin islands and genuine congratulatory hugs commiseration hugs depending on which side you're standing confirmation that metagazos the olympic champion rolls on here in yankton [Applause] [Applause] uh well it wasn't entirely convincing from either of them but they do say the cream rises to the top and method gazos came through in the end when things were required yeah he did he did enough uh he did not look happy at the end of that match he came to his coach and his coach really tried to pep him up a bit at the end there because i think mate knows you know he's got to get those clean executions we saw a little bit of error just a tiny bit i mean at least human being after all but i know he's gonna up that game and get that confidence in that in last shot world archery championship also here candy south dakota we first saw ray ellison taking on morrow desperately brady ellison coming out on top a little later today we will see the results of how jack williams who took out june sanchez will be meeting his office of turkey the now legendary olympic champion the question on the lines of the media or anything since as we go to the next two semifinal matches coming up this afternoon this morning we also got to see the very best of what reach women have to offer from around the world um well here we go we're down to the top four brady ellison came through the top of the draw along with atanu das it will be our first semi-final down the bottom the other american jack williams is through and he will face the olympic champion for a place in the final here in yankton and nikki four amazing athletes here lined up in yankton first up we've got two superstars you got a favorite i think buddy's on form here he's on the home soil he did well at the uh world championships didn't shoot so i think the momentum's with brady time for the first semi-final here at the yankton 2021 hyundai archery world cup final and it's two superstars of the sport usa against indiana [Applause] so the interesting subplot here uh the two athletes standing in the coaching box they are the wives of the two athletes i wonder if this has ever happened before the husband and wife partnership on the shooting world cup semi-final did we have the schlosser's and the uh guarantees yesterday or not remember with a lot of archery here in yankton for the last 10 days here we go now though for the semi-final it's guys at the front we'll have our eyes on brady ellison and atani das ellison to shoot first [Applause] adjustments conditions still look good [Applause] nine but with a measure on it that's a ten now if that arrow is to be marked up this is already out of reach for atari dust the tana dash has got to put it in the ten and even then i might not get he does get it into the 10 so it's a confirmed 28 on the right hand side for rotary dust now we wait for the measure on target number one [Applause] pair of tens for brady ellison for 29 and the first two set points so first set to ellison a time does stepping up here shoots with a great deal of joy shoots with a smile on his face he needs that relaxation and calmness because the set system does allow for archers to fight back straight away needs a good first arrow in the second set good reaction from him though just smiling and you know this best way to deal with it get back out there be next arrow yep [Music] quite a while at full draw [Applause] much of an adjustment perhaps a 27 nine is enough to go four nil up there's a nine it's all it needs four set points to nil for brady ellison nikki we've seen over the last few weeks of the olympic games the world championships which were here as the first part of this double header [Music] [Applause] yeah i think he's more in the groove again isn't he i mean it's been such a long season and you know probably waiting over the 18 months where there were very few competitions just to get out here again and compete so there's got to be a lot of mental physical fatigue at this point in the season and yeah i mean he's holding it together the best is near tonight that last shot just looked a little bit tiny little bit soft like his execution wasn't as powerful as we've seen on other arrows but both of these great contenders [Music] won this title back in 2010 2011 2014 2016 and the last time we had the tournament in 2019 going for number six he's looking for the first ever gold medal two turns to start [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] a little bit of pressure on allison but he's also popped two into the ten and he's put that one into the nine just goes to show what a little bit of pressure does and we have a match back on our hands with a perfect 30 gets his first two set points radius doesn't look too worried about it but it does move us on to a fourth set here yeah the 29's not bad he's only does shooting brilliantly in that set really getting into his groove now i've won this tournament and i reckon he's the only american to actually win a medal in this one he's picked up a couple of silvers and a bronze or a couple of silvers and a couple of bronzes along with his five titles incredible performance from him antonio das trying to at least mirror what janta luchdar did in edinburgh in 2010 taking a bronze medal in this competition shoots first and set number four all right good timing saying good timing good bow arm really focusing on that going towards the target [Applause] the correction he knew it was going to go left trying to drag it over [Applause] 27 leaves the door open here and eight for the wind he gets a perfect 30 as if to say to autonomous anything you can do i can do two and there is the celebration and he's allowed they are husband and wife that's perfectly allowed brady ellison locks on to yet another final we will see atanu das in the bronze medal match which is coming up a little bit later on we have the matter of one other semi-final first to find out who brodie ellison will face in his campaign for his sixth archery world cup finals title what a brilliant match from him took four but he's through [Applause] look nines and tens he didn't go outside of uh yellow so not bad shooting up against a very determined american here yeah not bad at all actually nothing left the goal but probably not enough tens especially when you're facing brady ellison who's looking for his sixth crown here and shoot him with such consistency yeah sure is and das got a 30 in there uh a perfect score but ellison then said well you know i'm gonna let you get away with doing that on your own [Music] time for the second semi-final here in yankton the recurve men's individual competition usa already have one man in the final going for two but he has got to beat the olympic champion to make the it states of america this is [Applause] [Music] 21 year old against the 22 year old jack williams from the usa is the world number 11. he has just won the olympic title in tokyo and riding very high and very determined still to carry on and shoot at his very best having come out of rio not getting a medal he started a mantra only until it's done or something along those lines at least really a literal translation from turkish but he did do it in tokyo but the hunger is still there he's got a face someone is going to be getting a lot of support from the crowd it's jack williams from the usa it will be the american to shoot first i mean jack's a great contender isn't he spent most of his season really concentrate on getting on that olympic team so difficult to do in america only came out to the third world cup picked up a silver medal [Applause] [Music] [Applause] correction strong shots [Applause] what a confidence booster that is to go 2-0 up and start against the olympic champion we'll shoot this in preparation for the next and that's a good finish for 27 but the points go to jack williams nikki um normally the stage we start analyzing all the arrows and uh talking about styles and all that kind of stuff but i can't resist the wonders of social media and communication around the world have meant that one of the world's very best coaches keeps it me who you mentioned already has actually been in contact with us to describe why he coaches the method that you were talking about earlier on first before you get into what he says just just refresh us on what you were talking about with the draw yeah the keysight lean method is um slightly different in the way the bow is drawn so most archers draw it very much in line with the string and alignment of the body but in this technique it's drawn kind of outward a bit more and um you know it's for injury prevention of the rotator cuff and it calls it angular drawing rather than linear drawing so you know it's just different method of getting into full draw which has been developed and obviously used very well by some of these top athletes well thank you very much mr lee for being in contact with us it's great you're watching i hope you're enjoying thanks for the update as you say coach education part of that is the priority of keeping the athletes safe set number two here though and it's mede gazos who is in a spot of bother shooting a nine at the start of the set yep a little bit better but i need some more tens long hold here you can see the movement wow straight in the turn again [Applause] [Applause] well it's not too little because it's the most you can get a 10 but certainly too late nine to go four nil up that looked like a bit of a snatch though but gets another 30 um a four point lead for jack williams boy oh boy he looks very impressive i'll tell you what he looks strong for this one let's forget about that what is brady ellison going to be thinking yeah that last shot um again just dragging his front arm down as if he knows they're going to pop high so whether it's what he's seeing or feeling that he's got in the shot he knows he's got to pull it down and wow he's doing a good job of correcting it confident us archery have got someone who can quite easily step into the boots left behind by brady ellison when he decides to move on if there's some sign of that i'm not trying to force his retirement at all but it just means that there are there is another archer coming through gazos behind by four shoots first in the third [Applause] [Music] no one can really beat you if you shot nine in a row put that arrow under the clicker movement [Applause] nice and still in there keeping up the pressure on mette gaza the olympic champion he gets a perfect 30. what can williams do here can he match it and stay perfect himself click up where the tip of the arrow is watch it click across little jitter here from him a big jitter here from him and there goes the clicker and it drops into the nine a little bit of pressure applied by the olympic champion and look what that does it puts mene gazos on the scoreboard jack williams laughing it off but it does mean that still in this this is when the set system feels a little bit rough for jack right now mate having dropped five points at this stage jack just a one a four two advantage it's real psychological game you know he's gonna let that one go he's shooting really well getting right back into it yeah it's about shooting the arrows at the right time we've said this time and time again yes big scores usually lead to a win but certainly with the set system you've got to be able to shoot a big point a big arrow when the opportunity to win a set comes in that case it was an opportunity to save the set for jack williams but again as you said earlier on 29's not a bad score in recurvature remember they're shooting over 70 meters here oh shucks so let's move on set number four semi-final between jack williams and mette gazos place in the final against brady ellison up for grabs the loser will face atanu dass he's building his confidence here good timing good shot no corruption is needed getting a bit of movement a little bit of nerves look at that clicker wondering no correction but [Applause] nice and smooth so a chance again for kazos to put himself back in this needs a 10 to draw level with jack williams nice and smooth he put it in the nine now jack williams can share the points here if he can get a 10. anything less go into a fifth set all square did it when it was required this time for a 29 and a 5 three lead will go into a fifth potentially deciding set gazos can win the next set and we'll have a single hour of shoot-off to see who they fit into the gold medal match himself trying to motivate himself yeah that's probably the most energy i've seen him with he's back on with the confidence now i think he lost his confidence a bit through the quarters match where he did have a tiny little flinch and he's been struggling at full draw isn't he but he's got the motivation now he's got the drive he's got the swing of the pendulum it's all going well what can he do in the fifth he's got to win it outright to force the shoot off well gaza seems in a slightly happier place than he was earlier on he trails by two needs to get off to a good start in the fifth set here he needs to win it to force the shoot off nice and smooth [Applause] [Applause] nice and smooth highest quality match we've seen so far no longer has this within his grasp needs a 10 for some pressure it's another nine for a 28 so an eight for the win and an all american final here in yankton south dakota in the usa puts it into the nine for a 29 and jack williams suffered a little bit of the jitters some great shooting from mette gazos to pull himself back in contention but in the end jack williams has taken this one three and goes on to face brady ellison his compatriot in the gold medal match we will see the olympic champion gazos again as he will face a ton of dust for the bronze medal here in yankton but here it's all about the americans two of them will face each other for the 2021 hyundai archery world cup final title here in america well you mentioned how high quality this match was and in the end there's two nines from gaza the olympic champion that opened the door for williams to take it through to an all-american final yeah i'm really impressed with jack williams i mean dropping only three points through that five-setter match this is going to be quite a final you know he's going to want to win this pressures on brady can he get his sixth and you know equal sarah lopez with that record a lot of pressure on him who's gonna win well that's what we've been waiting to find out not long to go before we see the ellison williams playoff here for the last title of the season before we get to that we'll see who is going to take bronze between das and gazos oh please welcome coaches we're down to the last two matches here in yankton at the season ending finale first up we are going to have the bronze medal match between the losing semi-finalists atanu das and mette and then it's time for the all-american final between brady ellison and jack williams time for bronze in yankton south dakota at the 2021 hyundai archery world cup finals olympic champion versus superstar from india turkey versus india let's go down for the introductions [Music] is [Music] [Applause] well two superstars in the lineup the olympic champion world number two meta gazos from turkey is just 22 years old he'll be determined to finish his great season off with a place on the podium here but he's up against the happiest of archers loves it on the finals field atari dust from india to world number seven and 29 years old smiling right from the start shoots for fun time to find out who is going to win the bronze medal here in the recurve men's tournament of the 2021 hyundai archery world cup finals metagazos the olympic champion will get us underway much quicker shot than we've seen so far through this tournament a little bit high perhaps a bit more explosive uh much more comfortable in this match 10. so now it's down to das to match him or go behind you saw the bokundo there from atari dust push that over to the left and he knew that so two set points for neta gaza to start this off did you see anything in particular there yeah it's just a little bit plucky with the release went what i'd call a little bit soft so he lost the pressure in his arms really and tried to drag it across he knew it's gonna go left and just not enough power left there that's why you saw the movement like all good photographers they like a credit we have to credit mckenzie brown from the usa for that uh phrase see bogwondo again started so well as well atari das has used that [Music] so das trailing after the first set i'll shoot first in the second hold a little bit of movement his timing slightly longer hold but it's good good group in there and a smile this time from him another movement on that site yeah a couple of cliches well i'm not sure you can say it doesn't matter how you get there two nines probably more preferable than the ten and 8 to get to 18. but he's pulled that one left and doesn't look happy with that one he does still smile but that's as unhappy as you'll see a darning das look chance here for gaza 27 for him it goes 4 nil up nine nine eight not good enough against the olympic champion did you see anything in particular with the atomic das's third shot he walked away from it looking pretty unhappy with himself i think he's just not you know sticking with the shot and executing as he knows he can you know sort of similar thing on the first set where just lost a little bit of pressure center off to the left so with a right-handed archer if your release isn't quite right if it's a little bit plucky your fingers um just flare a little bit that will make the arrow usually go to the left [Applause] let's see and slowly if we but they are 70 meters away from that target oh definitely he made that adjustment as well the site just before so that played a part another sympathy and that pitter patter is well the rain has started to fall it's very light at the moment won't really affect the arches just yet let's get any heavier we might see the towels come out start of set number three atomic dust looking to keep himself in this bronze medal match another adjustment there just by losing the pressure i think a little bit of the shot i'm coming over just looking solid he's in control there's just tiny tiny differences between these shots just a little bit of pressure a little bit of balance [Applause] very strong now the olympic champion for a bronze medal tony das needs to keep the pressure on he does it with a 10 and a 28 but a nine will be enough for gaza to make another podium this season oh he puts it in the 10 for a perfect 30. what a shot from him and what a nine arrows to take the bronze medal goes to thank his coaches being by his side throughout gracious kumari congratulating coach and athlete turkey's olympic champion will be on the podium not on the top this time but he will standing on the bronze medal step in the usa just came into form at the right time there i think the pressure was off for him because i guess because he's thinking i'm here for gold i'm here for gold when i'm here for gold as soon as the gold is gone even though there's a bronze medal at stake and there's a lot of swiss francs as well that come with that bronze medal um it's kind of like the job was to win the gold medal i haven't done that so i can just switch off all the worries yeah he certainly looked more comfortable and confident his shots weren't quite as long he looked a little bit more solid less shaking and yeah managed to execute them well and i did worry for him he he got into this bronze medal position at the world championships lost it to us and uh i didn't wonder if we were on for repeat of that but he held himself together really well certainly did metagazos will be on the bronze metal staff at the podium a little bit later on next up we are going to see two americans shoot off for gold time now for the all-american final here in yankton south dakota it's the gold medal match of the 2021 hyundai archery world cup final we have a six time well a five-time winner going for a sixth title and only the second american to get on to the podium in these championships [Applause] foreign 2010 2011 2014 2016 and 2019 champion brady ellison picked up the silver in 2012 and and got bronze medals in 2013 and 2018 at these championships it's a phenomenal record he's going for history becoming the first man to take six hyundai archery world titles but history's already been made because jack williams is only the second american to guarantee a podium spot at these hyundai archery world cup finals what a thriller we have in store can brady do it or will his compatriot knock him off his perch ellison will get us underway in this gold medal match [Applause] again we see that drag of the bow arm down like we did in the semi-final four he shot so well there though [Applause] obviously something he can feel or he's seeing the sight a little bit high and needing to make an adjustment what a solid start here for the man chasing six you wouldn't think there's any pressure on him at all he's taken the first two set points that's for sure [Music] [Applause] set already out of reach brady ellison is looking so strong though nikki he looks so in the groove so serious you know here to get his job done doesn't he take a look back that's the first arrow and that is his sighter and he still has the goal to adjust his sight having shot so nearly perfectly that's why he adjusted his sight just a tiny little bit just outside the x-ring wasn't it and the next one was in amazing perfectionists archers amazing grouping from him we need to see jack williams come back here i thought he might be a little bit more nervous up against his counterpart and his countryman brady ellison they know each other they shoot on teams together he knows what aura brady ellison comes with sometimes that can be worth a point or two it's an interesting dynamic against each other in a gold medal match williams trailing by two shoots first in the second set yeah but now it's a little bit shaking [Applause] yup all the music to his ears it's the coach with the scope in the background there confirming the 10. ellison opens the door left that looks a bit different that shot slightly different timing as he released but right to the ten door open again here at 27 against ellison usually isn't enough he's got room here and nine is good enough good enough for most people not for brady ellison get to 29 to go 4 nil up and that's three points dropped and what's going on here looks like he's just adjusting his clicker to whether he felt it was too easy to come through the shot taking a little bit too long just a tiny micro adjustment of his clicker he's just tightening it up no he be he probably looked like he was just moving it slightly so i couldn't tell if it was pushing it out or pulling it in but that's a draw length indicator says you're at full draw just making that last execution movement you know that'll dictate you know whether he needs a little bit easier a little bit harder to come through we take a look back on this and perhaps you'll be able to spot this you're looking for the tip of the arrow on brady ellison's draw you can't see it there because it's just on a wide shot it's a lovely shot to see the starts of course [Music] any indicators there it's hard to tell if an arch is at full draw for a little bit longer than they'd like to be then they might just push it out a little bit just make that a little bit easier well there you go brilliant shot of the flight of the arrow down the 70 meter range and the look of well no passion really from brady ellison trying to keep himself calm start of the third williams trails by four just about clips the line by the looks of things marked for a measure and a nine i'll have to wait and see on that one allison can do his sixth title in nine arrows here but not with a start like that that was an odd reaction of the bow again something a little bit different so if he's moved his clicker a little bit it felt a little bit different perhaps that shot opportunity's presented itself here for jack williams it's all about taking it this is in his hands now even if that nine remains a nine better didn't it [Applause] well a tent puts this out of reach williams remains in this competition a provisional 29 could turn to 30. ellison can only get 28 of course that is what he does get a low eight from him is uncharacteristic but it's open the door for jack williams and the critical thing here is when the opportunity came williams took it yeah he's put as much pressure as he could on brady that's exactly what he needed to do i think brady's first shot he almost looked like he came through so quickly just lost the pressure a little bit and it dropped low so that adjustment of the clicker made that difference yeah i mean that's a fairly significant thing to change on your bow isn't it mid-match yeah but i mean these archers are so tuned in to their draw length you know they know exactly how it feels to be there and move through it so you know just looking at them at full draw millimeters they're able to you know get to that length jack williams has fought his way back into this one forced a fourth set here trails by two still so we'll shoot first in this fourth set can we push this to a fifth again we see that poem they dragged down high nine i'm going to hold dragging down that bow one well i wonder if the rain is just coming down a little bit heavier here it's just been a bit of a distraction for the pair of them two nines from both of them haven't shot so well a nine here from williams leaves the door open for brady ellison can he get his sixth title he needs a 10. oh just outside by the looks of things and look at the frustration there oh so close toyah i was so close he's saying to his wife who's acting as his coach here what a thrilling encounter this has turned out to be the pressure there from ellison he's trying to make a little bit of a joke of it you can understand why as well yeah he's got to deflect the pressure and the disappointment of that you know he knew he could have closed up there but he's given jack williams a chance now if he comes back and wins his next set he could push it all the way to a tie five-time hyundai archery world champion is able to see the funny side of a history making miss effectively he's still obviously in this but has to face a fifth set not quite there yet mr ellison not quite there yet great to see those emotions curious from jack williams with that last era he thought that was going to go in that was so close so ellison is made to wait will it be done here in yankton jack williams shoots first in the fifth hoping to spoil the party yup oh just touching the line that could be critical [Applause] a bit shaking a little bit of nerves creeping in we haven't seen much of that at all he's been so solid [Applause] better timing better execution well nikki hunt thinks the first arrow is a 10 here for jack williams will he force a shoot off here with another 10. he gets it into the 10. we are waiting for that measure a provisional 29 that we think may well be 30 and we may be having the biggest well we definitely will now be having the biggest of finishes here because that's a 28 from brady ellison and jack williams remember was four nil down he got himself back to 4-2 shared the points in the fourth and has now forced a shoot-off and what a finish we've got coming here in yankton two americans going toe-to-toe one looking for his first title jack williams the other looking for his sixth and it's gonna come down to a single arrow nikki i know you're not a fan of the shoot off but you know come on this is the men's recurve final it's the season finale it's the very last match we're gonna see in this season you must be excited about it come on very excited about this this couldn't have been better what an absolute nail breaker you know just uh one arrow is gonna depend whether you're on that top spot whether braden brady makes history to get on there the sixth time in the men's recurve so much at stake yeah it's huge they're cleaning the target faces where they're putting new target faces on there so no holes in the target faces for the shoot-off that takes a little bit of time i'm sure they'll get it done pretty quickly even in these inclement conditions but we are going to see this finale end on an absolute high one arrow to find out who is going to be the champion of yankton this man looking for title number six up against jack williams here looking for title number one both going through their processes here both trying to keep a lid on everything all the emotion we can see that it will be ellison who will shoot first he's going to put down the marker oh the pressure the tension the excitement for us we don't have to worry about anything we just get to watch this fantastic sport and a magnificent climax who's going to take the title here in yankton one arrow two americans let's go for gold brady ellison to shoot first well it's a nine now let's not count him out here but there's room here for jack williams can he get his first title here in yankton he's been shooting some high ones oh yes he can from four nil down jack williams has spoiled brady ellison's party he's fought his way back into the match it took him five sets to draw a level but he was imperious in sets four and five and in the end he was left to beat a nine to take his first ever hyundai archery world cup final crown here in yankton in 2021 what a brilliant performance from the youngster [Applause] well that's great to see the two americans standing side by side but boy oh boy how disappointed is brady ellison going to be right now unbelievable you know four nil up and he had the chance to take it and twice really and he just didn't finish the job and allowed jack williams to come back to that tie break what a match that was yeah well we see the future of american recurve archery right here jack williams taking his first title and you know what great determination to come back from four nil down to take it that's a sign of someone who's going to be around for a very very long time what a performance from jack williams at just 21 years old he becomes only the second american to get a medal here at behind archery world cup final and he's taken the gold well we take a look back over the match here ellison starting well as he meant to go on here three tens from him to start things off from ellison but in the end it went down to a shoot-off and supporters there there's piers i think in the uh the mac i think that's jack williams on the left fabulous for them to see a teammate go and take his first title here in yankton the last of the archery action would be fascinating to hear what jack williams has to say and i'm sure we're gonna get to speak to him very soon well it looks like we're ready to speak to the new champion congratulations world cup final champion yeah it's it's still a little this whole day has been really good day for me so i'm still riding the high you came from behind to win that match how did you make it possible i just kind of fell back on what i knew the match before against mate i just kind of went back to that came back and then in the shootoff just followed my steps and shot at 10. and you were up against brady ellis on home soil yeah i mean well both of us home soil we have matches all the time together i guess the most recent one big one you could say with paris so a little bit of revenge from that i guess but we go all the time you're the first ever host nation archer to win a world cup final champion it definitely is a huge blessing being able to have the whole crowd here supporting and you know the whole guest side of the bleachers cheering for home field for both of us and just riding all that energy and it's honestly kind of feels good we didn't get that at the games all the cheering and energy so to be able to come here and have a big fanfare was fun is this the biggest achievement of your career so far this is definitely the biggest one so far i've had you know a lot of first place but not a world cup and or world cup final so definitely feels great thank you very much i can congratulations again thank you well he's done it still riding the height and let's not forget how he qualified nikki yeah he was the host nation spot you know who came into this because america were hosting this tournament but what a contender he was like we said before he didn't shoot the first and second world cups because he concentrated so hard on making that very tough american olympic team but he went to the third one in paris and took silver there so he talked about a bit revenge against brady in that match and wow what a way to come back yeah certainly is a way to come back brady ellison my thoughts go out to him it's uh you know remarkable when you think back to 2019 before the world changed ellison was the man to be in recurvatory going into what was supposed to be in olympic games in tokyo in 2020 as we all know things changed and uh that olympic games got delayed and brady allison hasn't quite come back to the absolute heights that he was at before or maybe others have caught up with him a little bit but jack williams is the man here in yankton the first one to win a title this stature on home soil now for the medal celebrations victory ceremony here for the recurve men at the yankton 2021 hyundai archery world cup finals and for a lineup three amazing archers collecting the medals as it should and be will be presented by the consulate [Applause] [Applause] representing he was the olympic champion in turkey just uh tokyo just a few weeks ago turkish archer gazos collects bronze here in yankton in the usa a check for 6 000 swiss francs a beautiful carving of a feather for him as well as a gift [Music] it's silver medal number three for brady ellison silva in 2012 tokyo and silver in 2017 in rome and now a silver here on home soil in yankton south dakota a 12 000 swiss franc check for him we know he came here for the gold medal his sixth title he was pipped at the post the man that spoiled the party well certainly the ellison party has made one of his own tonight the recurve men's 2021 hyundai archery world cup finals champion is jack williams from the usa the first man to take the title on home soil he gets a massive check and let's not forget he was the wild card entry for the usa metegazos just helping him out here knew that there was something else coming and it's a beautiful long jean watch one of the sponsors of the tournament giving a watch to all of the winners and a great celebration and wait for jack and now let's celebrate with his national anthem [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] ladies and gentlemen well that will just about do it for this season final victory ceremony is done jack williams on top of the pile from brady ellison the two americans gold and silver mele gazos from turkey smiling there with his bronze medal check upside down but uh well there you go of course the photos taken for the papers [Applause] and look at that the camaraderie between the two athletes i'm sure brady is very frustrated but he's able to turn around well done and here are the final rankings the rain gently falling here in yankton now williams top of the pile from ellison he'll have to wait another year to see if he can claim his sixth title metagazos picking up the bronze medal beating atanu das in the bronze medal play-off so nikki we are done for the season what a fantastic season it's been what can you say brady ellison we're gonna have to wait another year to see him do this again yeah he'll be back won't he i mean jack williams wow what shooting he's done today that semi-final so dominant in that and you know taking the opportunity when brady gave it to him in the gold and shooting that 10 in the shoot off as well absolutely phenomenal for a 21 year old when we take a look back over the matches here ellison started as he meant to go on a six-nil victory over nespoli das came out against vec muller in his quarterfinal and took it 6-2 to set up an amazing match against ellison in the semi-finals williams in the third went 6-2 with sanchez coming through with consumer ease in the end it was a slightly more tricky match for me gazos at the bottom of the order in the quarterfinals he had the athlete ranked number two for the tournament nicholas damore from the american virgin islands he got that 6-4 ellison well dominated atanu das in the semi-finals to make it through and it was his teammate jack williams had a little stutter in his semi-final against the olympic champion mete gaza but came through a 7-3 winner and look what it meant for him and his family mette gazos took on autonomodas for the bronze medal and he took it with consumer e's six nil ellison ready to party with his sixth title faced jack williams and he got off to a flying start going a 4 nil up but jack williams 21 years old gritty determined fought his way back into it and finished off with a shoot-off win and a 10 to 10 to finish for him he goes up onto the podium at the top for his first title and that is it for the season thanks for joining us we'll be back in april in antalya in 2022 you
