4k with the option of closed captions happening live today it is friday the 22nd of july 2022 my name is carrie holzman and thanks you guys so much for joining me for today's build today's build is going to a gentleman named giadarnay who lives in new york and he's been watching the channel for some time and wants one of my builds so today we're building a very fast quiet computer which you could easily make into a gaming computer simply by adding a graphics card in a more powerful power supply hence the name silent but deadly that's what this build is now for the parts we're using a b560 hd3 motherboard from gigabyte 32 gigs of 3200 speed ram a samsung 970 evo plus 2 terabyte nvme drive the intel core i5 11600 which i think is the best bang for the buck of all cpus on the market right now the mogan 5 revision c which is way overkill for a core i5 i ran on the build we did previously i ran prime95 on it for 20 minutes the hottest it got was 71 degrees celsius that's really really good so we could go with a cheaper cooler however the cheaper coolers i've had a little issue with the fans coming off and shipping and since this is going all the way to new york i want to make sure it arrives i want to increase the statistical likelihood of it arriving without anything wrong so spending instead of thirty dollars for a cooler this one's 65 dollars and jiadani wants a dvd reader writer which i have here in a retail box normally i get the oem dvd reader writers which is just a drive in a plastic bag and you get a driver disc which i usually toss in the recycle bin for whatever reason at amazon the retail box version was cheaper that's not normally the way it is the retail box costs extra because you're paying for the box there's usually documentation which in oem version would have neither a box nor documentation and it may even have a sata cable included so that extra cost extra it makes no sense to me that the boxed version was cheaper it does crack me up or i just shake my head just an smh moment when i read the reviews on amazon from people who purchased an oem dvd reader writer and were offended that they were shipped a bear drive in a plastic bag they automatically assumed they were sent something used they were expecting it to be in a box oem parts generally mean that you have to support it yourself and that you're not going to get the documentation in the box imagine an oem would be like dell or hp and they're building all these desktops down an assembly line they don't want to pay the labor and have to deal with the bulk amount of trash of having to unbox these products so they'll get a big crate of dvd drives for example or hard drives or motherboards and they'll just be the raw product in some kind of a bag no instructions no driver disk no cables and then the company that's doing the building or the oem the original equipment manufacturer is the one that provides support not the product manufacturer when you buy retail such as all the products you're seeing here all retail parts then each company provides support individually for their product generally that's why it will cost a bit more to get the retail version versus the oem version so that's the difference it's the only difference everybody see and hear me okay we are with the new canon xf 705 4k camera and i'm super excited that we get to try the wireless camera out which is using the old prior main camera which is an xf-400 that means our close-ups should be much brighter and clearer than they've been in the past and we're going to try that for the first time today unfortunately the wireless camera is only wireless in 1080 however the camera is in 4k output and you guys will just have to let me know if you're watching in 4k when i switch to that wireless camera at 1080 if it's making a big difference in quality because if you're noticing that the quality is not as good the only way i can get 4k i have to run a physical cable into the capture card as far as i know they do not make a wireless hdmi transmitter apart from the kind of transmitters they use for projectors they might have a wireless transmitter i don't think that'll work well because it'll have a delay and so the lips probably won't sink so we're upscaling the 1080 to 4k it will fill the screen if you're in 4k mode but i'll appreciate any feedback what you guys think regardless the camera itself is better than the prior 1080 camera we were using for close-ups it's superior in that it's got a larger image image sensor that makes it require less light for a brighter picture and it's got a better lens than the uh camera we were using for close-ups as a result though the camera is much much heavier i'd say it's what would you say two or three times heavier yeah so we'll see how uh camera girl endures with the added weight if you haven't watched what's been going on with the channel after we upgraded the camera i purchased a shoulder rig which looks like this this camera girl can put that like so and use two hands now it doesn't necessarily make this lighter it's still pretty heavy here but we can use two hands and that helps keep the camera steady also if need be you can hold it with one hand and then we can use this rocker switch to zoom in and out and then this is the wireless transmitter on top i was looking and looking and looking to find a 4k wireless transmitter and yeah it's a no-go so i hopefully have the brightness and the white balance set on this we might make some minor adjustments as we get to that point it's all part of the tuning of the new equipment and then once it's tuned we should be good to go until there's any major changes like uh like a different studio with different lighting okay so that's what you can come to expect during today's video and uh as big as that camera is the xf 705 is twice as big as that you get into these really nice lenses and the lenses themselves are what's adding the weight primarily it's thick heavy glass do you want to try it just we can you know what that's not a bad idea before we get rolling instead of waiting until we get there to deal with it let's let's try and adjust the image quality uh as good as we can now so when we go to the uh wireless camera all right come over here put that on right like so we'll open this and turn this on and we'll turn on the wireless transmitter okay now i have to go over to the streamer and i've got to turn on the wireless receiver and then once these are turned on they take a minute to find each other they negotiate a channel that they're going to communicate on that's clear of interference that all happens automatically takes about a minute tom says the frame rate's not good um andrew says he's getting a blurred picture if if you're getting a blurred picture it's probably because your resolution the little gear below the video change that gear to a higher number i'm looking peter laycock says hello at the camera lady from scotland hi peter all right let's switch over to this camera i'm kind of moving around to see if i see any blur everything looks fine in obs and my connection to youtube is green it's i've got zero drop frames so uh nothing has changed i i've changed nothing since yesterday's broadcast and it wouldn't make any sense uh if if it's jumping your video is 15 frames per second despite streaming at 30 and the quality is worse than it was yesterday sorry to say we love you where are you getting that information that we're going so obs confirms it is processing 29.9 it's 29.97 frames per second what we do here in america probably 25 in england as i understand it and i don't know that that's me doing that um when i look at the youtube options in the studio i don't see anything regarding frame rate uh yeah a couple of people are saying the video is stuttery other people are saying it looks fine it could be the some if you're watching in 4k try dropping it to 1080 just to see if it's a bandwidth issue i don't know what kind of bandwidth each of you have at home but it may be that your bandwidth isn't enough to cover it so if you if you manually drop it to 1440 or 1080 and the video doesn't stutter anymore then that's on your internet connection not being able to handle that much download to you so let me know try that and let me know boeing 757 pilot contributes five dollars thank you so i wouldn't so this wouldn't happen and it happened anyway right whatever happened um i'm still trying to figure out trevor also says the fast movements look blurry at 1080. piper says 3840 by 2160 william says it's stuttering a bit for him as well this is pretty interesting where are we getting the stutter the video is stuttery at 240p okay that's useful information i appreciate you letting me know dan says it looks so good yesterday i'm wondering if youtube is just getting a lot more um demand on its servers right now being that it's a friday and maybe other people are going live it may be my gratitude to them i'm still trying to think of a way that i can make them feel the way they make me feel right but of course i i hope that i'm able to do that i'll feel better if there's something i can do for them so guys don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything i can ever do for you it's just i i like to return kindness with kindness and at this point the words don't feel adequate but thank you so so much uh okay let's see what else we're missing here it looks like it's coming through at 18 frames per second interesting very interesting well i can confirm the obs is processing 29.97 which will often be rounded up as 30 if you're looking at the specs video at 1440 is good in ohio oystein says it's luckily not vhs quality well let's hope not if so dave hall says it's only blurry when you if i'm doing fast movements so if i move around you might see a little ghosting which it shouldn't be doing at 30 frames per second 30 frames per second is what your television is probably everything you watch on tv is probably 30 frames a second unless you're filming some high-speed sports for example then you'd want to go 60 frames a second we'd absolutely would do us no good and it would double our bandwidth by doubling the frame rate and unfortunately the little gear icon if i broadcast at 60 there's no way you can choose 30. i tried that and it really upset a lot of people that no matter how much they lowered the resolution it just wasn't playing well for them with their bandwidth so at least if i have increased the resolution viewers can decrease it for whatever their bandwidth is but if i turn on 60 frames per second if the video becomes unwatchable to a lot of people so that's why i don't use it ryan says mitch's video didn't stutter and neither did the intro animation the stuttering started as soon as you came in can you double check the settings on the camera itself that's an interesting observation and i appreciate that additional information let me step over to the camera and see i did make a change of um [Music] turning the gain control to manual and maybe when i did that it affected maybe it's the shutter speed let's see if we turn the shutter on i don't know i can see a little bit of blurred motion but it's not terrible it's not a stutter from what i'm seeing in obs let me put let me put the camera back to automatic gain control and that may change the brightness of the picture [Music] i can see it come take a look at this you see it does it look like a strobe light effect if i put the camera in full auto we're going to lose our colors right so let's go full auto it is better isn't it so there is a setting in the camera apparently i'm gonna have to adjust full auto doesn't seem to have changed our white balance which is what i was afraid it was going to do or i didn't notice it did you guys notice it john wilson says it got brighter but i'm not seeing any problems vernon mahoney says it is sharper i think we just leave it on full auto which is um wasn't ideal when we tested this camera in full auto but now it seems like full auto is preferred this drives me a little bit crazy so do bear in mind you guys are a little behind when i'm broadcasting to when you're receiving what i'm saying and i am a bit concerned that some of the comments that i'm now seeing in the chat i think are telling me the effect of what i did three minutes ago so please be sure that you are all the way to the right on the progress bar of the video that you're not further behind than you would just be by default and if you're not quite sure just hit the refresh button on your browser and it'll take you right to the up to the second broadcasted video and you won't be as far behind i want everybody to be at the same lag otherwise i might ask a question and 20 minutes later you're answering it thinking not not aware that that happened 20 minutes ago i have to turn off the ultra low latency uh which i normally use because it reduces that lag but in doing so i cannot broadcast in 4k and i cannot have automatic closed captioning so then there's just regular low latency and with regular low latency selected in the ob um in the youtube studio i can broadcast in 4k but automatic closed captions will not work so if i want the automatic closed captions if i want to live stream 4k at the same time i have no choice but to choose the normal latency latency is just a fancy word for lag or delay so we're at the longest delay what do you think is it still doing it huh that's really really bizarre michael mancini says i see no lag so you wouldn't know what the lag is you don't know how long you're waiting to hear what i just said it's it's more of an impact on me as the creator that i'm getting delayed responses from when i speak from what i'm used to because i've always been in the ultra low latency so i was used to about a 30 second delay between what i said and when you heard it tom miller says the frame rate is still off i using the same cable yeah i'm still using the same same cable the preview screen on the camera looks perfectly smooth it might be a capture card setting but i didn't make any changes this is the fun of uh setting up new equipment so i appreciate you guys bearing with me i'm not going to spend too much time on this we're going to move forward after just check some basic things really quickly but go into the properties of camera one and obs well that seems fine 16-bit stereo 29.97 is what it's taken in everything else everything is a default on that at the end of the day it's usually something simple i'm missing it's just frustrating to have to deal with it when i've got a schedule built right that was the whole point of yesterday's video was that i could just spend a video getting the equipment tuned making sure that you guys can give me feedback at how it looks so that when i went live today you know it may not be perfect but it should get us closer to perfect and where it was and despite not changing anything we're having this weird effect vern says this looks a lot better than when we opened looks like yesterday's stream it's all good trevor says sound is fine your lips match the screen so our synchronization is good it's just the fast movements are blurry george says he's not dropping any frames i can confirm obs has not dropped any frames our connection to youtube and our bit rate is solid well the other camera like i said it will be broadcasting in 4k but it will be down scaled to 10 to 1080. so and that's an entirely different camera but yeah that's what we were about to do you're calling me on my squirrel you're like hey yeah mr add over here sometimes the squirrel comes in yeah okay once again i've got to turn this on and turn the camera on okay and let's go to the wireless camera which we call camera three what's that has it synced you don't have to tell me the channel the no usually it's on eight i just wanted to play oh it's going to select it based on however it it when we turn them on they negotiate to find the best interference free channel they don't check all the channels as soon as they have a clean channel so if it just randomly started with seven and seven was fine then it just locks it in there and it doesn't that's just to make the whole thing happen faster okay let's turn on camera three let's activate that perfect so come on in now this will be 1080 upscaled to 4k and i'm moving around once again i'll ask you to turn the camera angle it or yeah there you go that's good um all right guys so here we are with a different camera again the camera settings are 4k the camera output is 4k from the camera and then when it goes into the wireless transmitter that's reducing it to 1080 then the 1080 signal goes to the receiver which feeds into the capture card and then the capture card is is either upscaling it or it's keeping it at 1080 and then in obs i take that source at 1080 which would only take one quarter of the screen and i say fit to screen so that's like putting a magnifying glass under 1080. so where 1080 looks sharp on a 1080 screen it might look a little bit grand grainy if it's upscaled to 4k so i'm curious what you guys think let me look in the chat they're saying it looks smooth perfect looks good luke greenia says now that's smooth camera 3 is perfect much better camera on tripod is the issue well that's the the new camera so i expect it's going to take a little bit of time to dial it in but this is a brand new problem i also have another camera on the tripod thomas bakkenstowe says wow better a thousand times better says william grayson so you guys aren't noticing any degradation of the video quality at 1080 is what you're telling me we're upscaling 1080 to 4k or we just fixated on the frame rate i mean what about the image quality overall colors brightness does it seem like it's i'm a dollar image a softer image everybody's saying it looks good well you're gonna have to hold that rig all through the broadcast now now i'll tell you what i want i'm gonna go over here to camera number two which is what i was using yesterday and i haven't done anything to camera two so i'll just turn it back on and i want to make sure that it's just the new camera that we're having the issue with so let me switch over to camera two there it is so here i am on camera two this is a full 4k out of the camera into the capture card full 4k image do you guys notice that the picture looks sharper and the stuttering shouldn't be there in fact i can see it's very smooth here in obs so that is camera two and then we'll go back to camera three for a comparison to go to the upscale 1080 image to tell me if you notice any image quality degradation like i said i'm not worried about the stutter at this point we know the stutter issue does not exist uh with the other cameras however what i'm concerned about is if we're standard or if you're accustomed to the main camera the one that's on the most often being in 4k when we switch to this camera is there a noticeable degradation of the video quality does it seem slightly blurrier not quite as sharp or does it seem again softer grainy see what they say in the chat camera two was also worse stuttering is back with camera two camera two is low fps again well that's very interesting because there absolutely was zero changes made to camera two since yesterday's broadcast that's pretty fascinating um and i may not be able to make this change while i'm live but in obs we can tell it to do the encoding through the cpu or through the gpu and we're doing the encoding through the gpu because that's supposed to be better and i don't know that i can change the encoding well i am broadcasting but i can try let me look at my output here um yeah every all the options are grayed out because i'm live i can't make any adjustments to that so it seems to be a data bandwidth issue with 4k it's got to be my best guess is that uh if we put these cameras in 1080 but still upscale them to 4k they seem to work just fine it's kind of cheating because it's not really 4k that way les stevenson says he doesn't see any issues with either camera he says his picture is clear looks more natural in the handheld camera well okay we just have to figure out what's different though i manually configured the the the handheld camera i have three of the same model camera on tripods two on tripods and one that's being held and i manually set all of them to the exact same settings the only difference is this one's got that wireless transmitter that's sending out the signal out the transmitter in 1080 and then we're so it's originally at 4k just so you follow us in camera it's 4k out of the camera it's going through the wireless transmitter at 1080 into the capture card at 1080 that then gets upscaled back to 4k either by the capture card or by obs i think it's obs that's doing the upscaling i think if i take it pure out of the capture card then we literally get just the quarter of the screen because 4k is four times 1080 and that also means four times the amount of bandwidth i have to use okay well that's as far as i want to take this we'll go ahead and run on this camera as much as we can today you let me know if your arms start getting tired and we'll just do mostly handheld today all right you know i'm going to put you to work today robert jones contributes five dollars so kerry this is a good early fee thank you robert and ryan in canada with a two dollar contribution said it looks more natural i find i'm assuming it is referring to the handheld camera okay well let's start prepping the board an hour into our broadcast here i apologize for these delays it's part of what comes along with configuring new equipment and doing a live video to test the configuration only to find out things aren't working the same today as they were working yesterday there's got to be a logical reason and i will find it but i think i have enough information and feedback now that later tonight or this weekend i can make some adjustments and see if i can't figure it out so thank you guys for the feedback so the b560 hd3 motherboard i think it's just a bargain of a board we'll work with 10th and 11th gen cpus but if we use a 10th gen cpu then one of the nvme slots i think will not work i think the m the m.2 slot closest to the cpu is pcie 4 which also makes it compatible with three however the cpu has to have the available lanes for that data traffic so while the motherboard is backwards compatible to 10th gen that top nvme slot or m.2 slot will not work regardless of gen 3 or gen 4 because the cpu design doesn't doesn't have the lanes for it so there are two m.2 slots on this board most people only put one m.2 in anyway so just know that that's a condition if you want to pair a 10th gen with a 500 series intel board some people want to know if you're using a board that's got a generation 4 nvme why aren't you installing generation for nvme drives that are twice as fast primarily the reason is budget those drives do cost more some would argue they don't cost significantly more but it's not their money right it's somebody else's money and then it's also whether or not by putting in the generation four drive that the customer will actually see an improvement beyond benchmarks yes we can run crystal disk mark and we can see that the gen 4 drive is faster there's no question about it but if the machine is going to boot with a gen 3 nvme drive in pretty much the exact same amount of seconds with the generation for nbme drive and the only difference is the amount of money we're spending then what we're doing is we're chasing benchmarks now for some people who do a a lot of input output they're putting a lot of use of going back and forth with data to their storage drive those little milliseconds faster that the gen 4 drive is can add up to become a massive time savings but again most users at least the ones that i deal with cannot tell the difference from even a regular sata ssd to a gen 3 ssd or gen 4 ssd outside of running benchmarks if you just ask somebody does your computer feel faster and generally say it feels the same because the speed difference amounts to milliseconds for loading applications and for your computer to respond it's only under less common usage scenarios where a user is moving a lot of data very often that they're like that's money worth spending for the rest of us i don't think it's money worth spending so to save about 30 percent on the cost of the drive 30 to 40 will stick with the gen 3 because it's already so fast um your average user is just going to get blown away and if you go any faster than that it's what difference does that make if they're already blown away they don't have any point of reference beyond uh you know whatever storage device they were using it's a heck of an upgrade and the good news is because my machines are all built with modular parts that if the way they use the computer changes let's say they get into photography and they're doing a lot of photo editing and now they feel like they need a faster drive they can buy any nvme drive out there of whatever performance they want that's generation four and very easily install it themselves it's one screw anybody can easily do it so just because i'm building it this way doesn't mean it needs to stay that way forever but i will tell you that there is often it's not uncommon that i get criticism from viewers who feel that i'm doing a customer a disservice by not giving them the full performance that the board is capable of and what i find sad about the criticism is they don't under they don't take the time to ask questions why in their mind there's no excuse there's absolutely no reason for me to ask why because there's no acceptable reason that you wouldn't spend the extra 30 or 40 dollars to get the performance that you paid for on the board in the cpu and the reality is the customers that i'm selling these machines to would never see any difference other than the they'll see the 40 or 50 difference right whatever the difference is going from gen 3 to gen 4. they'll definitely feel the impact of that on their wallet but not necessarily going from gen 3 to gen 4 do very many people notice it's any faster some of you will but i'm telling you that's the minority so i think what's important before you criticize them but anybody's build i think just out of respect and even for your own information maybe ask why and if you don't like the answer why well you're welcome to your opinion if i'm building the computer for you i'm going to build it what you want and what you're paying if i'm building it for somebody else and you don't know the other person you don't know the conversation we had and why we select the parts then for you to suggest the part selection wasn't ideal is it's a little offensive and disrespectful because you don't know what budget the customer has and there may be other very valid reasons that um that you never considered and furthermore the idea that people are judging as though it's my duty to seek their approval i also find it's like bullying is what it is it's harassment so that hasn't happened very much lately but there's on occasion someone will come in and and just look for every negative they can find so if i do a bunch of things they like they say nothing if i do one thing they disagree with they want to make sure i know even though i didn't ask when people decide to go after the negative like that when they're just watching for scrutiny what they're really doing is they're robbing themselves of the enjoyment and purity of the video for what it is nothing they're going to say is going to change that video nothing they're going to say will have any impact whatsoever with regards to how i'm building and selecting parts for each individual customers expectations needs and budget at the end of the day it's critical for my business to make sure my customers are satisfied sharing these builds on youtube is a way for me to share my experience and encourage those of you who are intimidated that this is so easy let me show you how easy you can do it yourself and then people who already know how to do it may come in because they enjoy watching it or to police me and it's the policing part of it where they don't have any authority and i don't know who they are and i don't know why if i look up to you if i respect you and you tell me something it'll be far more impactful than a complete stranger coming in and criticizing i don't know who you are i don't know why you know if i don't know who you are your opinion isn't valuable to me it's not i don't think it would be valuable to anybody especially if it's negative um and i don't know why someone would voluntarily do that to themselves however the good news is it rarely happens it's happened recently and you know i had to ban somebody because of it in one hand they say that they're a big fan of the channel and on the other hand they disrespect me it's some very strange ken jung has become a member of our channel for three months right on thank you ken welcome to the tech club john gardner says these builds are for the everyday person so many other builders pour thousands of dollars into a build and try to say that's what should be yeah i i get i get what you're saying there um when you have a limitless budget and you're a snob you're an elitist you're difficult to please please build your own i don't want to build for people like that and there's no reason people like that should have a machine built because people like that will generally only be happy if they do it themselves no matter who else does it they will have done something they don't agree with and it's really strange because i don't know what they're expecting when they exhibit this behavior i don't know what they're expecting in return other than a getting banned or the person they're criticizing to immediately go on the defense which isn't constructive for either person oystein again another contribution 50 norwegian krona i want to see the camera woman build a pc we might just do that the problem is uh our camera lady has very long fingernails and they're not a problem picking up little tiny things or like if you've gotta get down onto the close to let's say the motherboard and you've got to tighten something down her fingernails get in the way she kind of handicapped herself with the fingernails she says she hasn't but i'm telling you it could be fun to watch her struggle to pick up one of those little m yeah but i want to see you pick up one of these little m.2 screws i want to see how you do it ron s with a 10 contribution said camera 2 was great carrie i have a 4k monitor and it was super uh thank you ron thanks for the feedback other people were saying that camera 2 still had the stutter although it seemed fine on my side but i'll look at it after maybe this weekend after the broadcast and another 10 purpose behind the build samuel thinks the 4k issue is probably with the cheap hdmi cables not being 4k compatible well the cables do claim to be 4k compatible and that's a super easy thing we could just get that out of the way and try it um yeah let me just let me just check that because i really like the thin cables i really want to use them but if it's the cable that's causing this issue well then i guess i won't be able to use them so these are the cables i was using these are the um twisted oh i'm over here twisted veins or i think that's what they're called just a standard hdmi cable it's got a nice sleeve on it and i'm going to plug this cable i got to step back behind here and where's the hdmi cable right there and again we didn't have this issue yesterday so i'm gonna go back over to camera one i think it's still happening i don't think it's a cable what do you guys think do you think the cable made a difference moving stuff around i don't think it's the cable and i really hope it's not the cable i really really like those thin cables it still seems like it's stuttering to me what about the color color is not as sharp so that that would be a white balance for me to adjust oh we've got the camera on full auto that's why let me take it off of full auto and put it back the way i had it which is using the custom white balance that we set and that should fix the color problem full auto is now off and then now my let's go back to automatic gain control as well automatic gain is on okay that's working picture seems super bright yeah okay so i'm looking in the chat and people are confirming it's not just me the cable didn't make any difference phew good because i i didn't i don't want to go back to these thicker cables so i appreciate the idea it's a good idea all right let's go back over to the wireless camera you still holding up over there all right let's come on in a little closer in the in the box that the motherboard comes in and again i want you to always aim i want you to rotate if you hold the camera just um yeah i always tend to be on an on an angle this direction um we have our i o shield i'm going to keep this in the box because we don't need that until we're ready to put the motherboard into the case we're not going to put the motherboard in the case until we prep everything outside of the case primarily for your benefit i wouldn't normally do it this way but if i do it the normal way it's not ideal for filming it's going to be very hard for you to see anything other than the backs of my hands and my back and back of my head could a reboot fix the problem that's entirely possible yes by restarting the streaming computer it could potentially still keep going to that camera it's it could potentially be some kind of glitch in the streaming computer that a reboot would address um wish i'd have thought of that when we restarted the stream but i'm not gonna do it a third time so we'll just live with it since this camera's working we'll just keep using this camera i appreciate the feedback and the ideas i also want to let you know that people get a little confused when they try to watch the stream after it airs and things like the chatroom aren't available or the 4k resolution aren't available and that's because as soon as i end this live broadcast youtube has to process the video the longer the video is and the higher the resolution the video is the longer it takes youtube to process it it may take from 10 hours to 24 hours before the full resolution and the chat room play back so if you're watching the video after it airs live but it's not been 24 hours yet and you're saying i don't know what chat room he's talking about or i don't see the 4k option it's probably because you're watching the video too soon after it ended and youtube is still processing it the amount of time it takes youtube to process it also depends how many other videos they're processing in that particular moment so sometimes the processing is faster than other times and we just don't know we don't have any control or even any gauge to know how busy those servers are so there's no way to anticipate how long it will take but that's generally why people will be confused and say you know i was just watching it live and then the stream ended and i wanted to go back and see what i missed and so they're literally watching the video minutes after it ends and i'm grateful that youtube lets you do that but you're not getting the full resolution and you will not get the chat room for several hours now if it's been a day and it's still not offering the resolution in the chat room then please let me know but otherwise that's normal operating procedure for all live videos on youtube and it's always been that way so here we've got one of the little m.2 screws my hand is definitely not that pink in real life so still may have a little white balance issue here this is a what's called a jis screwdriver the japanese industrial standard it looks like a regular phillips screwdriver but it's actually a little bit narrower and sharper a regular number one phillips just kind of slips around on the head of the screw the gis driver locks in and it makes it so much easier to put the screw in when it's not when the driver isn't slipping sorry gotta get my glazes for this yeah you can see how the the picture right now is quite dark as the camera zooms in and as it moves away from the reflection of the light from the walls the image gets darker however the image should still be better than on that prior camera because the low light pickup on this cmos sensor is so much better so the theory behind it anyway it's that these close-ups even though they're a bit dark we can reach over here and adjust hold on stay where you are we'll adjust the video gain while we're live right on the camera and we can brighten that up a little bit there we go i'll put that screw right there and this is brand new samsung 970 evo plus two terabyte these are on sale today at amazon in the us at 179.99 or 95. 180 bucks that is a screaming deal for a screaming fast gen 3 drive i'm not aware of um other m.2 nvmes that perform reads and writes at these speeds at that price the price changes frequently so if you're going to buy it later it may be 199.95 or 215 but do know if it's selling for 179 now and you go to buy it a couple days from now and it's no longer 179 but instead it has gone up if you wait and keep an eye on it put it on your amazon wishlist and check it daily it will likely drop again right now as far as i know they're still available at 179.99 and if you're a prime amazon customer you can get next day delivery free of charge the color looks better than it ever has to me right on jason thank you so the color is affected by two primary settings on the camera one is the white balance and the other is called video gain which is essentially the brightness we can control i don't really mess with exposure and it may be an exposure issue that we're having now that i'm saying it out loud i'm starting to realize if the exposure is set incorrectly on the camera it'll look like it's stuttering so i'll have to check that so here is our samsung 970 evo plus and we're going to put that into the socket put it on an angle and push it straight with a little bit of a wiggle and it should just sink in to the socket and you shouldn't see the little gold edge anymore right if you notice the edge was gold so when we it's got a little notch so it can only go in in one direction it will not go in if i flip it upside down it won't go in because the notch is in the wrong side remember i said this stuff was easy i like that i don't have to run any power cable or data cable i also like it how much how much faster these are it's all wins in fact at 180 for a two terabyte ssd in some cases the two and a half inch sata drives of this capacity cost more money so other times they cost the exact same but these run four times faster than those two and a half inch ssds a lot of times you're accustomed to paying more to get faster in this case now the manufacturing cost is such that fewer materials are needed to build the nbme they don't have to put an enclosure on it they don't need to have the sata and power connectors on it it's much faster and cheaper to put these together now you're tilted there you go you hanging in there getting rough we're gonna put some muscles on you we still may end up having to get you one of those um steady cams i saw them on amazon today for about a cheap one was about 350. they're usually like 3 000. and the reviews are a bit mixed some people love it for the price other people say don't buy the cheap one you'll regret it i don't know who to believe but basically you put this vest on and it's got an arm that attaches to it and the camera attaches to the arm and then there um on the arm itself i believe there's counterweights and you have to fine tune it to offset the weight of the camera and i think the cheap steadicam i think one of the reasons it's cheap is it it's designed for cameras no more than 11 pounds of total weight i'm sure that if you're using a professional film camera they probably weigh 30 pounds and the camera rig is probably needs to be built stronger and it probably costs more to build so it's going to cost more for the rig and again i'm just telling you as i understand it the information i have may not be accurate because this is not my wheelhouse this whole video stuff is secondary to my main what is my career is the you know building repairing and upgrading computers but i do enjoy working with video i've always been attracted to filmmaking i still have vhs tapes from when i had my big thousand dollar vhs camcorder thing was about this big huge battery on the back and i wasn't doing that for anything other than for fun okay here's our 11 600k cpu and what i'm going to do let me turn this towards the camera avery ramstorf with a three dollar contribution says have a gatorade on me thanks avery i think i will little arrow on the circuit board you see it little triangle do you see a little triangle on the cpu in one of the corners you gotta look really closely it's very subtle can you see it that indicates to line the two triangles together to understand the orientation of how the chip fits into the socket i don't ever use that as a means to direct the orientation of the chip but rather on these boards you notice how the board has writing etched onto the board here see where it says like b560 there's a serial number to the board you can keep panning up anyway so the writing on the chip would face the same direction as the writing on the board for most atx and micro atx builds so what i do is i try and find the edge of the socket and then i just gently slide the chip until it falls into the socket the pins beneath it are sunken in just a little bit so i'm going to be very gentle when i put this in is to not put any downward pressure on it that way as i move it around i'm not bending those pins if i'm pushing down on this and moving it i will bend the pins and likely destroy the socket and that makes the motherboard unusable and out of warranty since you broke it right it's not their fault you broke it they're not going to pay to replace it they're they're not taking money out of their pocket to replace your motherboard that you broke that's not their fault so do take some care when installing the cpu next we're going to close the lid down these little reminds me of a little forklift right here and it goes down underneath this screw that screw doesn't hold anything in it serves to give this something secure to latch to and as we close this lever down it's going to have a lot more resistance as it pushes the cpu down to make contact with the pins below it and that forces the plastic lid to come off all by itself if we ever have to send the motherboard back to the manufacturer the motherboard manufacturer wants you to return the board the way you received it if you didn't receive it with an m.2 and cpu already installed don't send it back that way they don't promise you'll get that stuff back so since that socket is so delicate the manufacturer makes sure to put this cover on it so that when you get it there won't be any damage to the pins likewise the manufacturer insists that you must show them the same courtesy and use this cover anytime you take the cpu out to protect those pins from damage now of course they're not going to know if you did unless it's a warranty return right you're sending it back for some reason and they will deny your warranty if you don't follow that so i always recommend take these hold on to them hopefully you won't ever need them and just keep it with the rest of the documentation and spare parts we're going to have left over when we look at the scythe mugen 5 this is revision c and the real only difference between revision c and revision b is the bracket for intel is slightly changed to accommodate for the new socket 1700 12th generation chips that's it the cooler hasn't changed at all the heatsink is the same the fan is the same everything is the same but it won't fit on a socket 1700 without a different type of bracket so to continue um making the scythe movement 5 compatible with older chips and the new chips instead of starting from ground zero and redesigning an entirely new heat sink they know their heatsink works and all they have to do is update the bracket and so that's what happened with revision b was they included the brackets for am4 sockets so the original side moogan 5 to revision b to revision c that's the only thing that's changing so the cooling performance doesn't change that's what i'm getting at what it comes with in this cardboard box will be our documentation the scythe includes the screwdriver and then all the mounting tools for numerous types of sockets from amd to various levels of intel chips that way they don't have to manufacture a bunch of different models and worry about returns from customers who buy the wrong model that's not compatible with their chip so no matter what you have you're going to have a bunch of parts left over for brackets or screws or spacers that aren't required with the cpu that you have with this socket type that you have so back here to the box take the movement 5 out of here open this up there's our cooler now this cooler does not have thermal compound pre-applied it does have a little sticker here that keeps the surface area clean and polished so the heat transfer will be as good as it can be so we're going to leave that little protective cover or tape on it until we're ready to put this on because even taking it off now and letting it sit dust in the air could settle on it now likely that won't really make any noticeable difference in the cooling but i don't see any benefit to taking that tape off now anyway so sort of playing it better safe than sorry kind of a mentality unforsaken gaming says carrie do you still have case badges i haven't been on in a didn't even know that site existed so getting back to the cooler in this bag all the parts necessary to mount this cooler on a multiple variety of cpus from both intel and amd the way that the cpu bracket comes out of the box and you only use the cpu bracket on intel chips you won't wait is that right i think that's right it's been a long time since i put a movement five on a ryzen i i think this is an intel only bracket i'm sure some of you in the chat will correct me if i'm wrong anyway it's already set up with the spacing of these screws for socket 1700 and that's just a little too wide so what we do is we remove oh oh this is a revision b cooler darn it i was saving this cooler so i could show you a side-by-side comparison whenever i had time these screws don't move these are locked in you see that they're like welded in so there was no way this was going to work on a socket 1700 because these screws are too close together socket 1700 is just a little tiny bit wider so what scythe did is they just change this part this part alone so that there's a little plastic cover that sits on the corners and you pull that and then you can move the screw into its second position which is towards the middle or to its outer position which is the socket 1700 requirement this is my last black edition revision b cooler where no adjustment is needed you take it out of the box you put it back here on the back of your motherboard slide that line it up slide it in if you get one corner too deep in the others won't go in so you kind of have to balance that out see how the holes are cut out to make room or to accommodate for those screws that are holding the cpu socket in and there's a little cut out here and it's the same on the other side so that if you flip it 180 degrees it fits exactly the same way so easy to install it's kind of hard to get it wrong then in this bag jump out these parts these long screws right here these are used on an amd socket we're not going to use this on an amd socket so we definitely will not use these at all we also have these standoffs these are for intel x series high-end cpus we're definitely not going to use these so there's four of each just put those back in the bag don't need them here we've got our brackets there's two sets of brackets one for intel and one for amd the straight ones are intel the curved ones are amd we don't have amd so that could go back into the spare parts some people think i got leftover parts what am i what did i do wrong no no no matter no matter what when you install the cooler you are going to have spare parts now these little spacers on one end of it they've got a little the rubber grommet here and on the other side it's hard plastic they want the rubber grommet to go up against the motherboard so you don't score up the motherboard and it will fit kind of tight and what that does is it holds that back bracket in that we just put in so if this motherboard were vertical in a tower let's say we were trying to do this well the motherboard was in the case it kind of requires three hands to hold the bracket in while you're connecting things to the bracket missing a standoff i mean a spacer there it is once we put the spacers on the bracket as you can see now won't fall out on its own it's in there securely so you don't need that extra hand if you're taking the motherboard and having to shift it around to get things put together not all um third-party coolers have that consideration so it makes the install a lot easier it's just another reason why i'm a big fan of the mugen 5. so these brackets then sit on top and they'll face each other with the indent going up to get out of the way see these capacitors right here you notice you see how that's grooved black on black isn't showing the see how it kind of raises right there and that's notice where it raises is right over those capacitors so we don't smack them crush them that gives us the clearance we need and finally we have these thumb screws and these are going to go on to the screws that have come out of the bracket that we just placed the spacers the rear bracket and we've placed these brackets on and you just can tighten those up no particular order is necessary john wants to know if mitch is holding the camera mitch is in the philippines and mitch is a good foot taller than me so if mitch were holding the camera it would be like a me cutting away to uh to the blimp cam up in the sky like the angle of the camera is um much more ideal when filming downward i'm going to just use my electric driver to tighten these up so i think mitch has been traveling now just over a month and he said he was definitely going to be gone two months and if his money holds out he wants to stay an additional month so we'll have to wait till around this time next month to find out if he's staying or coming back but the video updates that we have from him he looks very happy i don't know what he's doing out there but it's working and if you missed the beginning of today's video it starts with an update from mitch and i hope next friday we'll have another update it's kind of fun i mean that background that he filmed with that background looked like he was in front of a painting it was like beautiful very photo photogenic area that he's in okay now i'm going to apply the thermal compound this is good that we can get a close-up of this because uh there's a lot of debate online about the thermal compound and it's silly it's all very silly at the end of the day it's just important you have the right amount of thermal compound within reason the amount rather the type of thermal compound isn't really making any difference there are a lot of extremists online with regards to because they're so passionate about it and they're so enthusiastic about it they're more likely to create the content that people are watching or reading as a result a lot of the things they talk about don't apply to most people what's important to these folks is not important to most people their enthusiasm and what they're trying to do is uncommon and what it does is it ends up confusing a lot of novices who think the things they're talking about are requirements like it's so important to do it this way to use this thermal compound or to apply the thermal compound in this manner unless you are doing if you're building a machine for the same reason they're building that advice does not apply for the vast majority of people on and again if you're skeptical about this i encourage you to experiment try applying thermal compound in different ways try different thermal compounds and run your own tests because otherwise people are arguing about something that they can't prove and if you attempt to prove it maybe then you won't argue for it anymore because you realize it doesn't make the difference you were led to believe that it makes unless you are in extreme overclocker now i use a nitrile glove are you ready for your examination i use a nitrile glove you don't use latex we don't want to use rubber they rubber can spark a static discharge latex some people are allergic to latex ideally we want powder-free non-sterile nitrile gloves any time we're working with electronics and what i'm going to do is just a little finger painting for lack of a better way of explaining it i've guesstimated about how much thermal compound i needed and rather than squish it down the problem that i have personally is when we squish it down i have no way to know if it's spread evenly onto the cpu there's no way to know if i put too much thermal compound when i squish it down and it all oozes out the sides and gets all over the board it's very difficult to clean up so what this does is this ensures i don't have too much that it's not going to ooze out and it ensures i have complete coverage of the this what's called a heat spreader or ihs internal heat spreader that's what the top of the cpu is called we do not apply the thermal material to the heat sink if you bought a heat sink that has thermal material already applied by the factory then you do not apply any additional it's ready to go in that case you don't want to mix two different kinds of thermal compound together everything else those little bits of minutia in reality don't really make any difference to your cooling and if you don't believe me try different experiments try different thermal compounds try putting it down in a different pattern and let me know what your results are now if you look at the bottom of this heatsink it's significantly larger than the size of the cpu and we don't know exactly where the cpu is going to center on this so if i applied the thermal compound here and covered this whole thing up then it likely will drip down around as it gets hot and get all over my motherboard and cpu socket it's just messy so let me give you an example you take a good guess at where you think how much of this needs to be covered with thermal compound some cpus are larger than others too but when i take this heat sink and i set it down on top of the cpu right there so that this screw aligns with the bracket now when i pick this up if you're curious how would i have known to put the thermal compound exactly like that because that's exactly where it needs to go any area that there's no thermal compound on isn't touching the cpu so you'd spend more on thermal compound because you'd be using more of it and it would give you no benefit if anything create a mess so by placing the thermal material onto the cpu with the heatsink clean it only transfers to the part of the heatsink where it needs to be so you're not using any more than you need to use did i put the side driver in the box is that what i did oh it's over here so now i can just get this started a couple of turns not too many turns time for the glasses there we go just want to get it started then we're going to go through the hole in the top of the heatsink using the included driver find the slot in the screw align that with the hole in the bracket and now start this one and then just start moving back and forth trying to balance out the amount of pressure on each side so that one side doesn't so the cpu doesn't end up sitting sort of on an angle because you wouldn't be able to tell if it's doing that by looking at it and the only way you would know is you'd be running hot you'd say i thought carrie said this cooler was good my cpu is running hot likely you tightened one side down before you tighten the other side it's an easy fix all you have to do is unscrew both of these and then once again start with one side just get it started go to the other side give it five or six turns like this and then come to the other side do those five or six and then maybe do five or six more and then come to the other side until they stop that'll ensure that no warpage is occurring and you're getting full contact between the bottom of this heatsink and the top of that cpu for the best cooling possible so a lot of people overthink it they make something about it over nothing they focus on what doesn't matter instead of keeping life simple and that's their choice but it doesn't have to be your choice personally i'm a fan of simple i'm also a fan of getting a good deal for my money i think most people are on board with that there are some people who want the best performance in prices no object we'll let them build their computers like i said those are very difficult to please people very demanding so these are the little brackets that are going to hold the fan onto the heatsink and what i do is i see how that screw sticks up right there bring the heatsink down on top of that screw and then i pull back on these wire hangers and then i slide into the slots on the heatsink just like that holds that fan in place then we've got the fan power cable this is a good time to get a nylon zip tie and clean this up now because once this is in the motherboard the top of the case is right here as you can imagine trying to get in to the gap between the top or the side of this heatsink to the top of the case makes it almost impossible to try and manage that cable and if you're like me every time you look at it it's going to drive you nuts so i'll take a moment right now look like you're sweating it's hard work isn't it starting to slip all right not much longer not much longer we're gonna go to camera one here in a minute i just wanna tidy this up well it's easy to do okay grab my needle nose pliers and just pull to make sure that's good and tight that they won't slip off grab my angled cutters cut those pigtails off and then we take the cpu power for the fan and right here on the board if you look super close underneath this gray fan header it says cpu fan right there on the board next to it the black header is for cpu optional that could be for example we could put another fan on the other side of this heatsink to have both fans running to move even more air but it's entirely unnecessary as it is this cpu cooler is overkill for an i5 or a ryzen 5 processor so adding another fan is completely unnecessary and in my opinion if it's unnecessary it's a waste of money there's little grooves in a notch that's going to line up when i first put it down because i'm pointing this at the camera rather than at me you should be from the camera's perspective so you don't do what i just did and force it on the wrong three pins or wrong four pins this is a four pin fan cable the last thing and that's going to be putting the ram in and then we can give our camera operator a much needed break you're doing good though you're holding up really good so for this this ram was on sale it was uh 79.99 and for a while it was 84.99 today it's 99.99 so wait a minute that's 16 gigs that's not the right ram hold on this is what we were originally going to do was put 16 gigs in this it threw me because the new ram that i was just talking about is the same color it looks the same but the packaging is different so this is the ram i meant to have again the prices fluctuate regularly on this ram goes up and down also newegg sells it you might check new eggs price against amazon's this was at the time 79.99 i bought three sets this is i used first set i'm now using the second set i'm down to one set left and i think it was a limit of three when i bought it now the price is 99.99 i give you this information so you know if you want to buy this ram and you can wait keep an eye on it at amazon newegg and i'm sure you will see the price moving nearly every day you check or every two or three days it'll fluctuate one direction or the other so we gotta go faster sticker we got a little teeny tiny warranty information pamphlet you've got the little identifying card and then of course to take the ram out we bend the plastic don't try to don't grab the ram and bend it to get it out of the packaging bend the worthless packaging so you don't damage your ram and then of course you can see the details of the ram on the sticker to put our ram in it's got a little notch we're going to align that with the notch in the socket so in this orientation the sticker is going to face the heatsink once we've aligned it in the track we're using the gray sockets only for two sticks and once we have it aligned then you can use some muscle to push down with your thumbs it takes a lot of pressure one side then the other side but do make sure that your ram is lined up in the proper direction that you don't have it backwards and that it's fully in the socket nice and easy with no effort then and only then use force to seat it and that's it now we can do our first power on self test and i'm sure that camera girl is eager to put that thing down do you want me to move faster i was waiting just to see you scowl at me like come on get a move on buddy okay back over to camera one there we go thank you so yeah so back on camera one so now we're truly in 4k what you were watching was 1080 upscaled to 4k because of the wireless transmitter just if you're joining us and as a reminder if you're noticing any video clarity difference or if you notice uh stuttering in the movement that's why i will address there shouldn't be stuttering in the movement if you're just joining us i've got some setting wrong i'm going to have to look at it later so let me grab a power supply we're using the evga 500 watt white power supply now these were 34.99 for the last two weeks on amazon and now they're like 36.99 once again the prices in this industry for hardware they're like gasoline that kind of unpredictable with when they're going to change and which direction they're going to be more or less but i can tell you prices rarely stay stable or the same anything involving memory or involving cpus generally speaking computer cases and computer power supplies don't fluctuate as much or as often just so you know i'm gonna go ahead and open up this power supply you've got documentation the screws are needed to secure the power supply are taped to the inside of this internal plastic internal cardboard flap power cable that's important to have and then the power supply itself the rest of the box can go in the recycle bin so [Music] so vital vision says looking good it's just the scotch yeah let's get this plugged in here so we can do our first power on self test hmm there it goes okay so these are the two power connectors we have to have on every motherboard sometimes when people do their first build they forget to put this cable on and then the system you'll see the fans spin but nothing happens and that's from people being too much of a hurry to do their build you need to slow down and enjoy your build don't try to rush through it and get it done quickly it should be fun you should be having a good time and if you're having a good time don't you want to have a good time for as long as possible so slow down enjoy your build if your build starts getting frustrating and you're not having a good time before you let your frustration get the better of you and potentially cause harm to your components i recommend you just take a little break relax get your mind off of it whether it's for the evening or for a half an hour whatever it is until you feel like you're ready to get back at it without the emotion your build should be enjoyable the entire build should be fun and when you're done and it works you're likely going to want to do it again it's very addictive i need a power button i bought this on amazon for about 12 bucks pretty handy for somebody like me maybe most people would say why would i want that no you wouldn't but if you're a tech or you're somebody who works on computers often it's really convenient to have all right i need a keyboard and a mouse i also want to get this out of my way okay keyboard and a mouse it's our wireless receiver for the keyboard and mouse they're paired as a combo so i only have to use one usb dongle which is really convenient if you're buying your mouse separately from your keyboard they likely will each require a dongle unless you buy it like from logitech where you can pair multiple wireless devices that are compatible with logitech system to a single dongle making life much less complicated make sure the power supply is in the off position and we can plug power in and then i need an hdmi cable and we're going to use the onboard video the integrated video that's integrated into our cpu now one of the things i like about the b560 hd3 board is the wide variety of video output ports so no matter what monitor my customer has it's going to use one of these four vga dvi hdmi or displayport this customer is going to be using two monitors and i know you can use two of these at the same time customer might want to use three and i'm not sure if you can use three or not at the same time otherwise if three won't work i definitely know two will and then you can get a little usb to vga or you know to um to video out as your third monitor which is fine for desktop work not for gaming because the usb data transfer is not strong enough for you know a refresh rate a frame rate of that much so bear that in mind i'm going to go over to the hdmi input here and we'll turn that on and i will shrink the video here put it right up there flip the switch to on hit the button i see the cpu fan is turning that's a good start if we did everything correctly in a matter of 60 to 90 seconds we should see the gigabyte logo the first boot will take the longest because the bios has to train the cpu in memory adjust the settings which is what it just did and then it restarts itself with those settings now so the system automatically shuts off and comes back on or restarts that's normal and to be expected if you're a new time a newbie first time builder you might think something's wrong that is not wrong that's the way it's supposed to work it verifies those settings are correct by rebooting with those settings and since our storage drive has never been formatted or partitioned it has no operating system there's nothing the computer can boot from right now so it takes us right into the bios now the bios on the board says it's version f7 and when we put the latest version of bioson that's going to be f13 which for some reason means it doesn't allow us to disable the ptt option so uh that's okay it's fine i still feel better having a newer bios regardless thank you to franklin adams who just contributed to five dollars via super chat says i just got a new power wheelchair have a drink or whatever on me right on franklin i imagine you're probably not getting new wheelchairs i would imagine most people in wheelchairs don't get new ones very often so i bet it's kind of like getting a new car isn't it i see marvin jameson joining us in the chat always good show right on william thank you so on this flash drive i should still have the bios from the other day for the same model of motherboard so i won't go through the process of showing you how to do that and i've shown it numerous times in past videos and literally put this into any available usb slot and give it a second to initialize come back over here and i'm going to select right down here q flash click update bios the only storage drive now that's formatted is the usb drive so that's the only thing it can possibly um give us as an option i only keep one bios file on this flash drive preferably the splash drive remains empty so that i don't confuse myself and have multiple files to choose from and then accidentally choose the wrong one now with modern motherboards for the last 10 years or more if you click the wrong one it simply will tell you it's an invalid image but to try and get it right the first time all the time if i only have one file to pick from i don't have any decision to make it's more mindless more automatic so we're going to go ahead and start the bios update process live i'm going to go ahead and shut off camera one so you can see the full screen and we're going to do this in real time so you get an idea of exactly how long this takes as i click press start at this point i want to remain hands off and leave the system alone this process will take about two to three minutes so what we're looking at it says no signal on your screen that's the output of the motherboard not sending a signal out as the bios is still um it's doing something but it hasn't able to initialize the video yet so again i encourage you to remain hands off remain patient and let the system um start and restart the system is so quiet you can't hear it when it's shutting down and restarting but i can physically see the cpu fan slow down almost to a stop and then spin back up again that indicates to me the system is rebooting so right now again to keep this in real time i am not touching the keyboard or mouse and i'm giving the system as much time as it needs to complete what it's done when it has completed it will do exactly what it has done and bring us back into the bios and show us that our bios version now reflects f13 and i always want to load the optimize defaults anytime i update the bios and then choose to save and exit that so now we want to you know we can ensure that there's no corruption in the bias with regards to the settings in previous videos after i updated the bios at least in one previous video recently the um speed of the nvme drive dropped significantly after i updated the bios so i thought well that shouldn't have happened i went into the bios and loaded the optimize defaults then saved rebooted into windows and ran the ssd speed test again and it was back to where it's supposed to be so whatever the setting was you know i have no idea but it's a good habit to reset it anytime you apply a new bios now that the new bios is in take you back over to camera one camera one yeah i can just keep it in the corner for now i can go ahead and pull the bios flash drive we're done with it and now i'm going to put in my windows 10 installation flash drive now i have a video showing you how you can make one of these yourself it's completely free microsoft wants you to do that you'll download the image from microsoft and you'll download the windows media creation tool from microsoft it's all free you install you do not need a product key the product key activates the product in microsoft office for example if you were to use the oem microsoft office that gets sold like at vip cdk deals it'll run in trial mode without a product key for five days after that if you try to run any of the office applications it takes you to the activation screen says you have to activate your free trials over with windows 10 windows 11 they run indefinitely without activation however some personalization of the desktop and things can't be done unless you activate to activate you have to have a license code or a product key it's the product key that's what costs the money so when you're downloading the windows 10 or windows 11 from microsoft you're not getting a product key microsoft says yeah please download it and try it right it's in their best interest for you to have a test drive in the case of windows however they have decided to let that test drive last indefinitely but you will get a little watermark on the bottom of your screen that says windows is not activated you can't get rid of it some people find it to be very annoying and of course they want to give you some incentive to buy a product key and activate the product but at least the product works indefinitely with microsoft office they don't want to do that with microsoft office instead you get five days and once you exceed the five days none of the products will launch it'll just take you to the activation screen just so you know so our windows 10 flash drive i'm going to come around here plug it in i'm going to turn the machine off and then i'm going to turn it back on again again this is the only bootable device so when the bios when the system does its power on self-test and it looks to see what drives are attached it sees we have the nvme drive with no partition or format it cannot boot to that then it checks the usb it says oh there's something bootable here and it just by default goes to the first bootable device in the order it's checking therefore i don't have to hit f12 or do any special instructions to tell the motherboard that i want to boot off of the usb drive like to keep life simple even though i tend to do things the hard way like whatever i've done with the camera settings i probably overdid something and i have to dial it back a notch it's whatever this issue is with the camera stuttering and blurring i'm sure it's something incredibly simple but i appreciate the feedback from you guys because now i can confirm it's in the camera it's not in the capture card it's not youtube it's not the cables all right so we'll go through our standard process here for installing windows 10 which is next install now right down here it says i don't have a product key microsoft makes this an option for a reason you're not getting away with anything by choosing this option when i do buy a product key it will be for windows 10 pro if i buy a product key for windows 10 pro but i've installed windows 10 home it'll say the product key is not valid that doesn't mean the product key doesn't work it means the product key another it doesn't mean the product key is invalid as far as in general it just means a product key is not valid for that version of windows the product keys are very specific to which version of windows so since i already know i'm going to be buying a windows 10 pro product key from vip cdk deals for 15.90 after using the coupon code carry links are in the video notes below i select that and enable agree to the license agreement i will always choose custom now there's only one drive i can install to if i was building a computer that was going to have multiple drives what i would do is i would only hook up the main drive the drive i want to install windows to so that i don't accidentally install windows on the wrong drive it doesn't benefit me to have any other drives hooked up this early in the build and it just invites mistakes so by having the only drive plugged in being the drive that i want to install windows on it's one less choice i have to make it's one less thing i'm going to potentially get wrong at this point the windows installation is going to partition that new drive it's going to make four partitions it's going to format those partitions and it's going to copy over all the installation files then it's going to reboot it's going to reboot off of the nvme drive because what the installation media tool has done is it's made that drive it's made our nvme drive bootable now and as soon as it boots to it it's going to continue the installation process and we no longer need the installation flash drive attached you can leave it attached but i'm just telling you it's done with it everything it needs to finish the windows 10 install has been copied over same exact applies to windows 11. every step i've shown you it looks a little bit different on screen but it's the same options you'll see here it's going to restart on its own which we want it to do and the bios by using default settings it's going to always try and boot to that nvme drive before it tries to boot to the usb drive so now that the nvme drive is bootable again i don't have to instruct the motherboard the motherboard automatically says if the nvme drive is available to boot from and there's also a bootable usb drive i'm going to boot to the nbme drive first you can change that if you want to but the bios in its default settings the reason that's the default settings is so that you don't have to do all that extra effort so just so you know if you want to do the extra effort you can certainly select f12 at just the right time and select which boot drive you want but you probably don't have to do that if you just leave it alone it'll automatically do it after we've installed windows 10 at that point i would if i had multiple drives to install i would shut it all down whatever drive i want to be drive letter d would be the next drive i plug in then i start the computer again loads into windows detects the new drive so now i have my c drive and my d drive then i'll shut it down and hook up the next drive then that will become drive letter e and i will continue until i've got all my drives hooked up rebooting each time if i hook up let's say i've got three more drives if i hook up all three right now let's say after the windows 10 install then the bio sees them in a certain order and that's how windows is is going to decide their drive letter in the order that the bios saw them in the bios's priority and then you'd have to go into disk management if you didn't want the drive letters assigned that way you can manually reassign them i think that's just making your life harder i don't have internet hooked up during the windows install because with the internet hooked up microsoft will require us at this stage to sign into a microsoft account because this isn't my computer i don't want to sign in with my microsoft account and for all i know the customer buying this computer doesn't even have a microsoft account what we want is what's called a local account because we have no internet connection microsoft during the windows install doesn't ask us to create a microsoft account because without an internet connection you can't sign into your microsoft account so whether it's asking you to create one or to use one you've already got that's not an option unless there's internet so i always make sure the internet cable is not plugged in or if there's wi-fi during the install it might ask you to select your ssid and password i just tell it i don't have internet once the installation is completed and we're almost there as i answer these final questions you know it goes through this familiar screen most of you who've ever installed windows i've probably seen this before should be familiar to you and it's going to take us to the windows desktop once we're at the windows desktop then i'm going to pull my windows 10 flash drive and plug in the ethernet cable and then go to windows update and start downloading updates and then we're not required ever to have a microsoft account all right i think we can go back to camera one now there we go always good to see our friend marvin jameson hanging out new pre-built computer you got to go through all this stuff you got to do all the updates yourself there the video driver just went in automatically through windows updates you see the windows updates are happening right now in the background whether i like it or not soon as i plug that cable in but i like to to confirm that i'm getting all the updates regardless so i'm gonna go to in the control delaware california more from canada in idaho oh boy it's a good thing i don't live in idaho i really like potatoes a lot i probably eat a lot more of them to show my state pride louise once enough i'm going to disable tpm what we found on the build the other day using the same motherboard louise was that when i disable tpm now with this latest bios update save and exit and go back into the bios it's still enabled even though i'm choosing disable and saving it as disabled for whatever reason it's coming back is enabled i think i have to disable something else in the bios in order to keep the tpm option disabled i really can't be bothered it's not that important so i would again if i left the f7 bios or even perhaps put on f12 because the motherboard manufacturer's website will have prior versions of the bios i don't have to get the latest one but the reason these bios has come out is to address issues i don't necessarily care what issues they address what i do care about is that when i ship a system to a customer that they don't eventually run into an issue where they have to call me for support and the problem is resolved with an updated bios so i can't predict how the user's going to use the machine now or in the future so i i i would rather put the latest bios in so that it's less likely my customer has any issue that a bios update fixes it's another reason why i don't like to jump to first generation chips if it's a first generation of a cpu likely there's going to be lots of bios updates as they mature that chip could be ram compatibility issues or frequency that the cpu chip isn't running at its best performance and so the manufacturer then you know they get a lot of complaints support calls they realize it needs a bios update to address it so there'll be a lot of bios updates relatively compared to after the board's been out about a year or eight months then the bios updates will be less frequent the point i'm trying to make is if i was using a brand new generation board that just came out and its bios version is f1 or f2 there's no way that i can put on a newer bios than what the manufacturer has at that time meaning that it's more likely the customer will experience an issue the bios resolves if they're running a version one version two of version three of the bios by now we're up to 13 different versions of the bios started at f1 we're now at f13 so in increments they've been addressing things for whatever reason by putting that latest bios in whatever happened to f8 f9 f10 f11 and f12 doesn't matter go right to f13 if for the sake of experimentation i want to go one bios before and then see if i can disable a tpm and that works what i don't know is when i send the machine to the customer if they're going to have a problem that the f13 bios fixes it's a tough call really but i'm going to default that the latest bios is more important than disabling tpm strictly because we don't want windows 11 to install without our consent if the machine doesn't have tpm enabled then it's not compatible with windows 11 and every time you go to windows update rather than so windows update is going to be kind of aggressive to encourage you to download windows 11 if your system is compatible and running windows 10. they won't leave you alone if your system comes up is not compatible then you just get this message in windows update that lets you know your system is not compatible it doesn't require you to answer a question and if you don't read the question thoroughly and understand it and you answer it incorrectly were you meant to say no but you actually said yes then you get windows 11. that's happened to a few of my customers where windows 11 from their eyes it installed all by itself without their permission but i guarantee you it didn't they they clicked something they didn't fully understand or they get this off the screen you know in most cases you can go to the control panel within the first 30 days of windows 11 and uninstall windows 11 and go back to windows 10 sometimes it doesn't work most of the time it does work microsoft's really wanting you to feel safe and secure that if you want to try windows 11 that you can run it for up to 30 days and if for any reason you don't like it you just go to your control panel go to the apps and tell it you won't uninstall i think that's how you do it you uninstall windows 11 which puts it back puts it back to windows 10 and most of the time it is successful once in a while it hoses the entire operating system and the only thing that'll fix it is a clean install of windows 10. christopher wants to know how would i disable windows 11 upgrade for my work pc i don't want it barking my accounting software so again in the bios if you have a tpm or ptt option you can disable it newer motherboards apparently aren't letting you disable it i first heard about this someone told me with an asus board they had the problem and i said it doesn't sound right now apparently gigabyte is doing it and i imagine asrock and msi are all doing this so whatever this changes it appears that um the newer the board is or the newer the bios is you're not going to disable or be able to disable the tpm without also disabling something else i'm sure there's still a way to disable it but it used to just i don't understand why the option to disable tpm is there in the bios like why isn't it grayed out if if i change it and save and exit and it's not saving it because some other setting needs to be set first then it should be grayed out and not allow me to change it until the other setting and then it should become something i can click on and change so i don't like the way they're doing that there is a utility you can download let me do a quick google search for it steve gibson is usually the guy that writes stuff like this but there's a let's say stop windows 11 app let me just search for that stop windows 11. i'm missing a word here stop windows 11 upgrade how do i stop windows from updating to microsoft windows 11 open windows update to see if you're up to date you can pause updates for up to three weeks but that's temporary advanced options let you tweak your update settings you can disable the windows update service no that's extreme we don't want to do that you still want to get your security updates for windows 10. how to stop windows 11 update block it forever this is from the ease us website ez makes some pretty cool utilities typically disk utilities cloning software partitioning software it says you can turn off the windows update services don't want to do that you can block windows 11 update with a group policy editor oh oh disable windows 11 updates with the third party tool what's it called it's called jesus clean genius which is free you download it install it and go to the optimization button the tool will detect the status of the windows update service if windows update is currently enabled see i don't want to stop though i don't want you guys to stop your windows update service i don't like that don't like that at all i can't i can't recommend that i know there's an app specifically to disable the windows 11 option if you know what it is please put the link in the chat room or give me the name of it so i can put it in so i can get the link our update doing over here pending restart all right answering a question if somebody doesn't want windows 11 and they don't want windows update to constantly hound them to keep saying do you want it would you like it would you like it would you like it they like just make that go away that's the question we're answering we're not answering whether windows 11 is good or bad that's for each individual to decide what you think is good somebody else is going to think is terrible one man's trash is another man's treasure only you can decide if windows 11 is good or bad okay so now we've rebooted let me go full screen again on my side so i can see right click the desktop we're going to go to display settings and we're going to change this to 1920x1080 so i can read it again good luck fighting 1920x1080 well that's not what i wanted 1920 by 1080 1920 i think that's 1920 by 1080. yeah yep good now go back to windows update see this little colorful thing here in the search bar i hate that that's called search highlights right click the task bar go to search and uncheck show search highlights i don't like this little news icon down here once again right click on the taskbar go to news and interests select turn off these are my personal preferences and they seem to align for the most part with the customers preferences if the customer wants to put those back it's the exact same process so the changes i make for my customers are the changes i make for myself they're not extreme and they're very easily reversible to the customer's preferences but i'm trying to do as much for the customer as i can and i follow the desires of the bulk of my customers and that's what they want can you use the registry editor to disable windows 11. you could however people sometimes forget they made a change in the registry which can come back to haunt them where they're like i can't install windows 11 and people have you reset your windows update service they have you do all this stuff and it turns out you forgot you made this change in the registry that's true of any registry change you make like if you're trying to improve the performance of an application and you read some forum or watch some video that says if you go in your registry and you do this thing it'll improve the performance of that app and you do that and it works and then you know a year or two goes by you haven't used the app in forever and now you're using a different app and now it's not running right and you're calling support or you're looking for help and nobody can figure out what this baffling problem is and it turns out it's because of that registry change you made two years ago which if you hadn't made you wouldn't be having this problem today so there can be some long-term consequences to any registry setting changes so depending on your technical ability and your comfort in the registry in general i advise people to stay out of it because even if you're successful it may have unintended consequences in the future and since you forgot you changed it in the registry that means when you go asking for help most of the time people don't think about the registry in the solution unless you happen to mention could it have been a change i made two years ago in the registry which honestly if you had that information awareness of it you likely would have found the solution on your own but you can't tell somebody something you've forgotten and yet it may be what you've forgotten that's caused the problem and since they don't know that then they're going through a standard routine of diagnostic that's going to get you nowhere see how my updates are doing now did i get them all see it says windows 11 is ready and it's free so you get this advertising and it drives some people crazy if i click stay on windows 10 for now it goes away but it will come back and you'll and whenever it comes back if it's annoying you the way it annoys me it'll keep doing that intermittently whatever the time period is between when it asks you again unless your system isn't compatible with windows 11 or as mentioned there's a registry change there's also a little application you can download which i i'm struggling to remember what it's called and find it in the meantime what i'll do here as part of my configuration is bring up microsoft edge click on the three dots go to settings once i'm in settings i'll go settings here go to privacy search and services click that i'm going to go all the way to the bottom and then click address bar search and over here i'm going to pick google then back over to these three lines over to start home and new tabs i want to open a specific page and i want that page to be google.com once again these are my preferences that for the most part my customers prefer more so than not but again all easily changeable to meet whatever the customer wants it to be so since i've changed the default browser settings now microsoft is asking me if i'll put them back in other words put my search engine back to bing put my home page back to my no i don't want to do that so i click don't update my browser setting i like how they call it updating it when in fact it's the opposite of an update it's reverting it back to the way it was not updating it it's funny how they use the psychology there to make it seem like you know it's updating the updates are good when in fact it's reverting so now if i open up microsoft edge it should just open to google and if i do a search even up here if i want to search for carrie holtzman it'll default to google search results there's the shopkerryholzman.com website where the merch is available that we talked about there's the case badges there these will ship anywhere in the world anywhere in the world the badges they cost me about three dollars each to have them made and then i have to pay for shipping and then we have to buy envelopes we have to buy postage and we've got to do the labor of packing it and getting it shipped out support assistant is what i want i hit download now it's pretty small download as soon as it finishes click open file oops i've opened it twice you must accept the end user license agreement you do not have to accept the customer improvement program so i'll decline that click yes it's quickly installed and we restart the computer captain ken wants to know if i can make that last bit of updating the browser a quick tip video yeah absolutely the problem with the quick tip videos in that regard is is that the browsers change they get updated rather regularly so when i make the video murphy's law within days or weeks of me making that video the browser gets updated and the interface is different then i have to make the video again that's the only downside is it can create confusion for people that are like i don't have those settings in my microsoft edge that's the only downside is it's a video that i will have to continually update whenever there's a significant update to edge for example that i might already have the quick tip video on how to do this in internet explorer but internet explorer doesn't exist anymore now it's microsoft edge and so the steps are different cctv user says love a extra large carrie holtzmann mouse mat a desk long one so those long like desk protectors they have a name they're referred to not as pads but as mats i know gamers nexus sells them they have their own it's really nice you says it's it'll be expensive for you to ship to me in the uk actually it depends what we're shipping if we're shipping um the case badges the post office here standard envelope they have to go into some kind of a padded larger like manila type envelope but shipping to the uk overall isn't very expensive it's if i'm shipping hardware or something that has an import fee attached to it to your country that's where things get expensive and then of course things that can get damaged in shipping are more likely because of the distance and the fact it's going oversea and it's going to take quite a while to get there so the package gets handled a lot more i don't worry about case badges breaking or coasters all that stuff we sell on the merch store is unbreakable it's also very lightweight and because the usps offers that worldwide postage it locks in the price which then i can say universally anybody can order those case badges anywhere in the world and whether i'm shipping it to the uk or i'm shipping it to germany or i'm shipping it to australia it's the same stamp same single worldwide stamp which is more money than a regular stamp within the usa okay so back over to the desktop down here in the bottom right corner now i'm going to have a little gear icon and it's got a red dot that's red dot tells us there's an intel driver update available for us so we click on that twice there it goes it opens up automatically in the web browser and it says you do have an update available for your integrated video which is made by intel if we had an intel wi-fi intel bluetooth intel network which we do have an intel networking card and there's a newer driver available than what microsoft has provided us in windows update this will tell us this also kind of works like cpu z in that it'll give us all the specifications of our system bios version motherboard manufacturer model what version of windows we've installed what build of windows we've installed what processor we have with a little drop down box for more details what graphics card we have with the drop down for more details what audio chip it detects which is real tech so intel isn't offering us any drivers but it can tell us the software uh sees that oh i'm corr i was incorrect regarding the intel gigabit it's a real tech so any driver updates for the networking and this audio would come automatically through windows update and if i wanted to manually check i would go to real tech themselves memory 32 gig it's all the specifications of the memory we don't have xmp on so we won't be running at the 3200 then of course the samsung ssd the 970 evo it's pretty handy that that's all part of this driver update assistant sometimes rather ironically the update that's available is an update for the intel driver assistant to get updated so be aware it's important to keep that utility updated but at least you're getting the right drivers they're free and unless you have a pre-built computer if you have a laptop or a pre-built computer you always want to get your drivers from the manufacturer of the computer not the way i'm doing it here this only applies if you build your own machine i don't like it when companies try and sell you drivers i don't like it when companies offer you a driver that ends up crashing your computer so since we're getting our drivers from intel the manufacturer it is free and they are the right drivers and the latest drivers in this case the video driver intel is offering is newer than the one microsoft is offering through windows update i don't know what the difference is why the update happened and i don't want to know why i don't want to experience an issue that is resolved with this update so by you be more specific about your question our driver has downloaded now we'll install it eventually just to be clear windows update whatever the version driver this is it takes time for the companies to submit the driver to microsoft not all companies participate in this by the way and then microsoft has to go through their own checks and things to integrate it into the updates from product detection into making sure the driver isn't going to create a bunch of headaches for them so they don't just take a driver and start offering it they go through a whole process of verification and that's why the newer driver will be available straight from the manufacturer first when will microsoft update offer it or windows update rather it's hard to say but it will eventually be offered and by then there may still be a newer one and so the circle continues depends on the frequency of the updates ray burke says you can try turning off secure boot to disable tpm afterwards that that may be exactly what's required it's entirely possible it doesn't really matter that much to me it's just a convenience thing it was easy to just disable it and it's easy to tell the customer how to re-enable it if i've got to change two things in the bios if they're located in two completely different screens each motherboard model is typically going to move the bios around a bit and how it looks and where things are and what order they're in so it's not like i can memorize very easy steps over the phone that the customer can follow it's easy enough to guide them to a specific spot or to tell them look in all the options and all the sub menus of your bios for this particular feature and then if it's disabled enable it then to tell them oh and you also have to look for this one and you have to do it in this order it's a little tough for me to do that over the phone or through an email from somebody who's got a computer and they're in another state like this one's going to new york right and the person's my understanding is they're not real comfortable getting into the bios and stuff like that that's all too technical the reason they're hiring me so that they don't have to do that magicians software vlc and then run uncle kerry's windows 10 optimizer that's pretty much how i configure windows i will unpin all of the tiles off the start bar so the start menu will be narrow like people are used to on windows 7. and then i will take out an unpin from the taskbar the microsoft store and the email program that's built into windows 10 because it doesn't really work well with anything other than hotmail.com or outlook.com seen people like associate their yahoo email address with this built-in mail utility i must have already taken it out and what ends up happening is their reply address is some long code that doesn't work and they're not aware of it and i can't respond to them i can't even tell them that i can't respond to them because that would require my ability to respond to them it's maddening so like these icons here i just right click and i choose unpin from start and i'll just do that for each one of these and if the customer wants to drag icons over to utilize these they certainly can but with consistency the machines are kept as clean optimized updated and activated so that they're as plug and play as possible with the latest drivers and you know all of this setup work is done so that the user can now set up what they and what they need right their printer their email their software they can get right to that samsung magician installer this takes a minute before the screen will pop up there it is next agree next accept next next install that's going to put an icon down here in the system tray that monitors our samsung drive for firmware updates and uh it can confirm that we're in pcie by four if we have an older motherboard and we've got an option of different m.2 slots and one is a half speed slot you may not be aware of that so or you just might look for confirmation that in fact your nvme drive is running at by four speed very few manufacturers give you this information the intel ssds the samsung ssds i think maybe the western digital but stuff like sabrent a-data team as far as i know they don't they don't have that utility or any utility for that matter if there was an update right here there'd be a big letter n next to the word update but it shows that we have the latest version of the magician software itself and the latest firmware and it can confirm as i mentioned drive details that it's pcie gen three by four if i put it in a buy two slot it would say buy two and my performance would be half you may not notice that as a normal user you might just be curious am i getting the speed that kerry says i should be getting he says i should be getting you know 3 300 3600 and i'm getting 1700 i didn't even know i was going slow something's wrong go in here and check that you have it in a slot that's by two if so that's how fast buy two goes and you'll need to shut it all down and move the nvme drive to a different m.2 socket back over to my usb drive i'm going to grab uncle carey's windows 10 optimizer and again i like to put vlc it's free and it will play all audio and video files in fact if you're trying to view an or listen to an audio or video file that vlc says it can't play it's likely a virus and what they would do is they'd say oh you need a codec to play this back and that was a very popular way people got their systems infected if it tells you you need a codec i would suggest that you try and find a different source for that audio or video that you're that you you're trying to play back don't believe you need a codec that is a scam designed to get you to install something nefarious on your system with vlc now installed i can go into the control panel under apps and what i do here is i take out groove music because vlc will now be our music player so we uninstall that i take out mixed reality portal i don't know a single person that uses that movies and tv that's your media player vlc replaces this i want to take it out this isn't an installation of office but rather sort of an advertisement for office i want to take that out i want to take out skype if my customer wants skype they can download skype and it'll if you've got this installed you're going to get updates in windows updates it's just why if it's something you're not using if you download it when you need it you'll be downloading the latest version and then there's two xbox things here like the game bar you can't remove but xbox live i can remove now some of you might say wait a minute maybe i want that that's okay you can put it back all of these things are what's called windows 10 features and you would simply go over to apps and features where is it so there's the list of default apps i don't want to have to change the default app for movies and music for all the different file extensions so if i take out anything else that plays movies and music and the only thing that is vlc i don't have to manually go in and associate all the different file extensions for those types of files so that's why i simply remove the microsoft option right here it says optional features click on that trying to find where if you wanted if you were the end user right and you received the computer from me and you want the mixed reality portal back it's been such a long time where is it add a feature add a feature gosh darn it i'm not seeing the screen i'm looking for but it's there what i'm talking about does exist and it's super easy once i get the list up and i'm sure there's probably somebody in the chat yelling at me right now click here carrie click here andrew wants to know if the things i just uninstalled are in the microsoft store they might be actually but there's a way you can go into the windows features going all the way back to windows xp and there's there used to be a long list with check boxes now it's still the same long list but instead of check boxes i think there's a little button you click for those features but the store may be an alternative way to acquire them but they are part of the windows installation just so you know okay so what was i doing i was going to do uncle kerry's windows 10 optimizer next and this is just a bunch of little changes that i make to optimize the system it's nothing you couldn't do by hand but because i'm doing so many systems this does it faster and it makes sure that i haven't forgotten you know if it starts becoming like a mindless task i'm more likely going to forget one of the settings so this ensures it's done consist consistently the same way to every machine i build every time and it does it faster than i can do it by hand each of the changes it makes are very minor and make a very teeny tiny difference that most people won't even notice but add it up together it can have a positive impact on the responsiveness of the computer and if it doesn't here's the good news it doesn't cause any harm there's not going to be a consequence later on as a result of any of the changes those have all been tested and would never create a conflict um the changes that i'm making would never create a situation where software all of a sudden got an update and now it doesn't run it's because of those changes those registry changes that are being made there i wouldn't make a change to the registry that has the potential to cause a support issue in the future so they're all very safe to apply whether or not they actually benefit you depends on your hardware your software and how you use it and how you perceive responsiveness it could be nothing more than a placebo that you buy the optimization tool run it and you're convinced your system is running faster good enough right you don't have to prove it nothing wrong with going off of how something feels we still have the red dot down here which suggests to me that the video driver did not install correctly that happens sometimes so it's probably going to tell us we need a video driver still and it's probably the same one i gotta check the box and then install is no longer grayed out and we're going to go through this one more time and i don't know why but this is relatively common with the intel driver update sometimes you put the intel driver update on in this case the video driver and then you go to windows update and windows update will say we have a newer video driver do you want it okay i'll take it or it may not even ask it may just do it and then you install it and then when you reboot then the intel one has the red dot saying you have an old driver so then you do it again you download it from intel and install it again from intel and then reboot and then windows update won't bother you anymore just an idiosyncrasy of how the software works and how my microsoft update works or when i keep calling it microsoft update it's microsoft windows update is the full name when you see the screen blank out like that that's the video driver being shut down and then the new video driver activated and that causes the screen to blank out when the driver's temporarily disabled and then when the new driver activates then the video comes back now it's telling me my intel drivers and software are up to date but we're going to reboot one more time and make sure that that dot is green and then windows update should not offer us any video driver update until a new driver is available if you haven't updated a video driver in a long time because why it may be something that prevents a major update from installing in the future or it could be you're trying to install windows 11 and it keeps crashing and that may be because the video driver you have is so old it's a very common reason why some updates won't complete so if we always keep the latest video driver in whether we need it or not their likelihood of having an issue with installing an update or again upgrading to windows 11 having an issue due to the driver is reduced i don't know what you're trying to tell me mixed reality what about it it was part of the windows feature on demand it came with windows 1709 you get it through windows update well now that i've uninstalled it i don't know how you get it through windows update but you it's something you can easily versatile in that i can haul computers in it the mustang you know it had a back seat but it wasn't very usable so for any more than two people to be in the car was uncomfortable so having a four-door suv has the full back seat we've got the hatchback we've got room for hauling computers and such there's also the rear seats of course can fold down to give us even more room if needed gas mileage is really good on it what's that lexus getting 25 24. and then when you drive it it's so comfortable and i hope yeah i hope that it's uh as reliable as people claim toyotas and lexus are because that that mustang i had was the single most reliable brand new car i have ever owned i had that car from 2013 until this year so i had it nine years and right at the very end it needed it's basically its first repair which was the plastic reservoir tank for the antifreeze had a teeny tiny little crack in it that had been there for some time nobody could find it but what would happen is i would drive the car somewhere and when i get out of the car i could smell something burning in the engine compartment but yet there were no puddles everything was clean and when i asked the dealer to look at it when i would take the car in for an oil change on two or three occasions they couldn't find anything so i figured well it's not hurting anything and then of course when the engine cools down the smell goes away well subaru mike took it to prepare it for sale and he drove it home and he probably drove it harder than i drive it and he immediately saw drips in his driveway where he parked it and he located the lake as just a little hairline crack in the plastic overflow tank you know how much a plastic overflow tank would cost for that mustang it's like a it looks like about the same size as a milk jug but thicker ninety dollars for a little plastic jug still over nine years all i had to do was replace the battery twice i think i did the tires twice maybe once i think i did tires twice never had to do brakes never had to do any repair whatsoever do oil changes tire rotations cabin filter engine air filter and put gas in it and i was very fortunate that in the entire time i've owned it i go out of my way when i park to try and either park to a nice car because i figure somebody who's got a nice car is less likely going to be careless with swinging the door open into me or parking the car where only one side of it there's a parking spot on one side but not the other because it's at the end but still people will door ding you over time in phoenix and that car never got a door ding it kind of broke my heart to let it go time for a new experience get rid of the car before it became a bad experience and since i've never owned a toyota or a lexus before i've never been able to afford alexis never thought i could i did buy it used just so we're clear i did not buy a brand new lexus i don't make that kind of money cctv user says my town got fiber six months ago after a year that blazer v6 two-door s10 blazer my repair invoices i keep them all you know and it had to be that thick of repairs and it wasn't over the top like everything it needed it seemed reasonable window motor it needed eventually it makes sense and the older it got the more frequent the repairs were and it's um the car was 19 years old i'm like it's time the dash was cracking and the paint from being out in the arizona sun year after year was chipping away and the car was never in an accident you know solid car transmission was always good never needed repair the engine as i mentioned i did the repairs as needed i didn't let things fall apart stay on top of them at the end though the air conditioning i couldn't get the uh air conditioner to work and we replaced i think darn near every part of the system it's like there's nothing else to replace and i was fed up i was just fed up like you know what i got to get rid of this thing it's it's getting me angry and i'm losing a lot of time away from my business because i'm too cheap to buy a new car my insurance rate's going to go up on a new car but it's costing me more from the amount of money that i'm losing when i have to work on the car or take the car somewhere to be worked on it's taking me away from my job and then that starts adding up to substantial losses beyond the cost of the repair and i was like you reached my breaking point and said okay you know what 19 years that's a long time to own a car so when i went to replace it i did not want to go back to another gm product because of my experience it doesn't mean all gms are bad or suffer however i also like to have experience so if i had the opportunity to own one of every car in my lifetime from each manufacturer i mean like a mazda i've never owned a mazda a subaru well we have a subaru forester um jaguar mercedes never owned those porsche i'm forgetting a ton of manufacturers saab and volvo and uh volkswagen never owned a car by those companies and i just thought you know good or bad to have my own opinion from my own experience if if i'm if the majority of cars i'm buying are continually having breakdowns or issues over a certain period of time and then i get one that never has any issues at all then it changes my expectations and suddenly the cars breaking down before was acceptable but now that i see you can buy a car that runs obvious ray burke says i have an amd ryzen 3 on a gigabyte x570 motherboard the carry amd chipset driver will update but when restarting it won't install the newer driver i had to install from the amd website and it worked ray when stuff like that happens it's really important that you email support at d7x tech so that they can replicate the problem and then update the software because you've resolved it on your own there's no information that we can offer to the developer to replicate the issue so then they can put the fix in that will benefit everybody else so next time please let d7x tech know and that'll make the tool better for everyone as a result shameem says the be quiet purebase 500 versus a corsair 200r they're very similar cases based on your experience what are the main differences um let me pull up a link to the the purebase 500 i don't know the be quiet product line very well i've got multiple purebase 600s that i've worked with i think i've only done one purebase 500 and i can't remember oh okay so the purebase 500 i believe has a glass panel and no ability to put in a dvd drive on the corsair 200r we've got no glass panel we have three bays on the front that we can use for memory card readers dvd drives whatever you want also the corsair 200r has the ability to add four three and a half inch hard drives as well as four two and a half inch hard drives without any drive rails without any tools it's you slide the drive and it locks in place be quiet i do believe requires drive rails and the way the drive rails stick out in the design i don't like it it's just my personal preference they're both name-brand well-built cases with the purebase 500 also having an rgb option which is subtle it's not over the top no rgb option on the 200r i think on the purebase 500 you can get a liquid cooler in there relatively easy on the 200r you're not getting a liquid cooler in there unless it's like one of those little 140 um radiators i think you can get a 240 or a 280 in a 500 i believe so off the top of my head those would be the main differences i also believe the be quiet 500 is more money i'm not sure what it has for usb ports on the front of the case or if it has both a power led and a hard drive led because they've been removing on some cases they'll remove the power led or the hard drive led or the reset switch or they give you one usb 3 and one usb 2 which sucks on the corsair 200r you get two usb 3s you get a power button you get a reset button and you get a power led and a hard drive led channel zero says if you got both gift cards i can afford the extra this week well thank you do i think channel zero wants to know with an msi board you drunk with that msi board would probably scare the crap out of me i think you need to retype pay i eat my own dog food and then i will activate windows 10 on here this customer also wants office 2019 i'm going to download office 2019 i've got a video that shows you how to do that you get it directly from microsoft one of the reasons i like office 20 2019 is that you can activate this perpetual license not a subscription without a microsoft account except now you can't i just went to install office 2019 for the customer and it is absolutely requiring a microsoft account whereas before it didn't i have been racking my brain trying to figure out a way around it if i unplug the internet cable and then try and activate it it says you can't activate without an internet connection i've tried using excel or powerpoint or word thinking that maybe the option that i don't have a microsoft account would be there fine print somewhere it's not there anymore because it's not my computer it's going to a customer i emailed the customer and i said do you have a microsoft account they said i don't know i said well do you ever use skype because whatever you're logging into whatever credentials you have for skype that would be your microsoft account because i can't remember just go ahead and create one for me so since i have his email address i can then just come up with a password and set it up and get the activation done and then when the customer gets it um they may choose to change that password or they may just act like they don't have a microsoft account they don't care until such a time as they need a microsoft account at some point in the future they're probably going to make microsoft accounts a requirement in windows 11. they are moving in that direction craig casavona with a 20 contribution hey craig thank you in the meantime i do prefer to stay away from microsoft accounts but i won't be able to do that forever at some point it microsoft is going to require it even to just get windows installed and that'll mean i either have to get the information from the client or once i get windows installed to the point where it's asking me for the microsoft account information at that point i would have to shut it down and ship it to the customer in that condition that means no more windows updates no more driver updates no more product activations as an added service that i offer i will no longer be able to do that unless the customer can pass on to me their microsoft account information or tell me to microsoft make a microsoft account for them in which case they can select what password they want and that way i can set it up for them the way they would do it themselves and then any records i have of that information get destroyed so there's no way i can hack them or have the information stolen from me and then have that person be hacked i would also encourage the person to just for the sake of safety change the password anyway so that that's never a possibility if some if somebody should hack you thinking that maybe it's kerry who did it or maybe somebody who knows carrie did it if you just change your password when you get the machine that'll never be a potential reasoning if that happens or potential cause should that scenario happen to you at the end of the day it's their choice if they want to change it that's why i set everything up with a local user and i activate things for people so that when they get the machine they can plug it in and start using it and that's going to get much more difficult for me as microsoft starts you know requiring these account logins i was really sad to see that change in office 2019 i figured they were going to leave it alone doesn't have a whole lot of life left in it office 2016 and office 2019 expire the same day windows 10 expires on october 14th of 2025. office 2021 you definitely have to have a microsoft account and it has one additional year it expires in october of 2026. beyond that i think everything's subscription only so if you're going to want microsoft office at in 2026 and beyond i don't think a perpetual license will be offered anymore and i hope i'm wrong but that appears to be microsoft moving in that direction kind of slowly without drawing attention until all the perpetual licenses fade away robert jones says carrie are you doing remote repair now i've always done remote repair where applicable once again i'm not saying there's anything bad about having a microsoft account i'm not against it i don't have one i don't see any need to have one well you know what now that i think about it i do have a skype login so i guess i i must have a microsoft account but i don't use it i don't have any reason to use it there are benefits to having a microsoft account whether or not those benefits are in fact benefits for you is for you to decide but because the microsoft account requires a login and a password i don't want to put my microsoft account in a customer's machine and i don't want to have to ask the customer for their login information but for the security reasons i've mentioned but it looks like either i'm going to have to or i have to stop installs before i can complete them when they require that information to continue if anybody knows a workaround in office 2019 to activate it without a microsoft account please let me know samia kowalski says what about office 365. so office 365 is subscription only it's not offered any other way again not necessarily a bad thing there's pros and cons to each each side of it but when it comes to setting things up with subscriptions i don't want to set my customers up with any subscription the customer must do that they will put their payment information in select their username select their password i will not do that on their behalf i don't want to be held accountable for any automatic billing to my customer i don't see that as a service at that point that could be completely misinterpreted what i was trying to do was make it easier for the customer but if the customer didn't fully grasp it that was going to be a recurring charge they're going to be mad at me there's nothing in it for me i'm not profiting more because i'm doing i'm just trying to make their life easier so anything requiring billing and passwords need to have the user do it joe says there's a use around there is a work around to bypass the requirement i saw a youtube video on it but i can't remember the channel yeah please look it up if the video's over a year old it probably doesn't work anymore cctv user says he thinks the office monthly subscription is kind of worth it because you get a terabyte of online storage like i said there's benefits to it absolutely miror says when installing windows 11 where it asks for your microsoft account email try no thank you.com it should then ask you to create a local account for real you ever heard of that it doesn't sound right andy puts a link for office.com to use apps like word excel etc i think office.com is microsoft's website for office isn't it new rumors about windows 12 in early 2024 no subscription they're rumors though we talked about that a couple days ago it's hard to know what microsoft's going to do it's hard to predict it it's hard to know that for example the discussion about windows 12 may in fact be true that there could be discussion in microsoft about it and so then somebody within that circle puts out a tweet or something to that effect that doesn't mean microsoft has made a decision about it so when we say it's a rumor what we're saying is we're speculating in fact the rumor is probably true in that there's been discussion internally but not necessarily that a decision has been made yet and of course microsoft is going to play their cards close to their chest because they don't want you to postpone buying windows 11 if they tell you windows 12 is coming out next year or in a year and a half they don't want to be their own competition so they're going to keep their mouth shut they also don't want to give a heads up to their competitors not that microsoft has much in the way of operating system competitors but in general you play your cards close to your chest so that your competitor doesn't beat you to the punch cctv user says for those of you not in the know you can use outlook and word for free on android i'll also look and see if i can find the the little app you
