Hello and welcome to Crazy Danish Hacker. Today, we are going to review the Baofeng
radio! So let's have a look. Inside we have a manual, very interesting,
and we have a CD, which won't fit into most laptops these days, and a data cable, to program
the radio. And we have a car charging cable by the looks
of it, and this is a charging station where you put the radio in, so it's not just for
the battery it's for the whole radio. This is for attaching to the radio I think,
not 100% sure. Eh let's see, this is the charging cable,
and this is for like some (power) plugs not the ones I have here. So you may need an adapter, and this is like
a push to talk device. So let's have a look and open it. So this is like a classic walkie talkie click
device as you can see. Pretty cool. Even though I haven't used it. And a, or an antenna. But let's have a look at the radio first. So here it is, the Baofeng UV-5R. And it's pretty good. It's very sturdy, a little bit heavy as well,
but that's nice I think, and it's also rugged. Which basically means that it feels pretty
sturdy as well. So you can press a button here on the back
to release the battery. I think it's on the top here, you have to
press it in and not down. And then you can release it, and that's pretty
cool though so you can easily switch batteries. The default antenna is alright, so this is
the one that comes with the Baofeng. You have to screw it on first. So let's have a look. * TURNS ON DEVICE * So now we are in frequency
mode. And now we are in FM mode so we can listen
to radio. Now in this mode you cannot transmit, but
you can receive. So you can use the up and down arrows to change
frequency, or you can use the scan function, which I didn't show in this video, or you
can also type in the frequency in numbers. * XMAS SONG PLAYS ON DEVICE * Alright, so
there are a few modes in this phone or, walkie talkie. So we can switch between A and B, so you can
easily switch between two preset frequencies. You can also switch to channel mode, so this
is specific for this walkie talkie. And maybe also a few other brands. Now let's switch back to frequency mode and
type in the frequency for the ISS station. Or the International Space Station. So that's 145.800MHz. So when you have typed this in, then you may
need to change the squelch as well, and you need to change it to zero in case you don't
have a good signal transmission. So use the arrow keys, and you have to change
it to zero, and press [ENTER]. And then you can listen in on the radio. Make sure to press [EXIT] as well. Now this will listen all the time, so you
will just hear a lot of noise if nobody is transmitting on this frequency. So in case you don't want to hear a lot of
noise you can change it back to one for example. So other interesting features can be the step
function, that's how much you want to change the frequency, in this case, 25 KHz every
time you press the up or down arrow. So as you can see it changes 25 each time. And you can change that down to 5 KHz. Another useful feature is the transmit power. I recommend setting this to low unless you
really have to transmit at high power. Because that way you won't be transmitting
at way too high power which you may not be allowed to as well. For the bandwidth I recommend setting it to
Narrow in case you're going to receive the ISS. And also for other things of course. But you may have to change that back to Wide
(Wideband) depending on what type of signal you're trying to pick up. It's also useful to turn off the beep as I
just did. Because then it's more silent, the radio when
you use it. I don't think I've mentioned it, but it's
like 20$ USD, but anyway here comes the best part of this kit I would say. Besides the radio of course. It's the extra antenna. Now there a few fake of these, but I think
this is an original. Anyway that I had worked pretty well. So I will just try an unpack it and then try
and get it back on camera. So let's get it out of the box or the packaging
material. As you can see it's long, and it's rated for
144 and 430MHz, so that's also very useful as the ISS operates on 145.800MHz for the
downlink, and also for the APRS (145.825MHz) and also for the SSTV (145.800MHz). So let's unscrew the antenna from our radio
and try on the big one. * ASTRONAUT VOICE IN ENGLISH THROUGH RADIO

Oh, boy. And wait til an idiot tries to bootleg back to the shuttle.
What antenna is that?
I bought the 771 and it is worse than the stock antenna for my uv-5r.
Is ISS broadcasting audio on every passage? Tried 3 times on 145.800 on AL 800 telescopic antenna no joy
