do the work do the work to be the best you can be honor god by finding and fulfilling the fullness of your god-given potential seize divinely provided opportunity be the best version of you that god has made you to be but do the work do the work don't just set goals and have dreams if you have a goal grind amen you got to put in the work put in the work a lot of the series right now is about that big idea of doing the work by the way if you are a guest welcome my name is dave and maybe you're here because it's baby dedication weekend and we do have beautiful babies and maybe you're not used to church with some of the uh fun shenanigans or church by the glades but we love creativity one church to be very undol and i love a parable jesus used a teaching technique called a parable he'd use some recognizable thing to his culture and use that to teach spiritual principles we're doing the same we're using uh nasa nasa in the 1960s of the space race i'll explain in just a moment but the big idea today is doing the work to be the best you can be and i hope you do that example of this my youngest my youngest is a very focused little boy he's 12 and not to tell you too much he just is a worker he has a great work ethic he um he works very hard in school he's self-motivated and then i love this he volunteers at church by the glades all weekend long in the kids ministry pastor roy you have made kids men so fun that he just has fought us for years to be here all weekend long not fight us to go to church fights we can't keep him home he loves this ministry is that great so he volunteers all weekend long so he works hard in school he volunteers at church and then a basketball if you know my 12 year old he's basketball obsessed he loves basketball and if you catch him and ask him his dream his goal he won't say to play high school he won't say i want to go d1 he'll tell you i'm going to the league in fact he'll tell you if he's honest he goes and i'm going to be the goat he will say i'm going to be the greatest of all now the kid has my genetics so i don't know if he's going to make people go michael jordan who i don't know that's going to happen but the one thing i love about zane in this dream he's working it i can't tell you how much work he puts in with bas as soon as church is done he'll meet coach drew at our house he'll spend two hours in the heat going through the drills he does his homework every single day both in school and basketball his handling drills his rebounding drills his shooting drills i mean this kid puts in the work so i don't know what his lid is going to be but it won't be because he's not willing to work if god has given you a dream you got to grind you got to work and my prayer for you and the kind of words we love to share with you if you're here in your family with your young people is dare to dream audacious god-sized dreams but don't dream about going to the league and just play 2k in your bedroom drill grind provide the sanctified sweat sufficient for your success god honors a biblical worth that ethic so do the work and i pray that you're great i pray you are the best i pray that you're great someday but a little word of warning for great as i studied the scriptures have you noticed that greatness has a gravitational pull the best people if people truly excel especially in a public setting there's a gravitational pull so if you achieve that level of greatness uh people are going to orbit around you there'll be a gravity to your greatness in the same way that the planets orbit around the sun do the might and majesty of the sun people will gravitate towards you example jesus was the goat i mean pick the subject leadership communication morality i mean forget his messiah son of god he was just the goat and because he was great man there were people drawn to his glorious gravitational pull all the time he had a number of first century human satellites that orbit around him relationally he drew dedicated disciples and he attracted aggressive adversaries jesus had vicious haters if you're not truly familiar with the jesus story you might be somewhat surprised like really gee people hate it on jesus what jesus like a really nice guy wasn't jesus like a great leader great teacher did he say nice things like turn the other cheek and love your people hate it on jesus jesus had ruthless vicious slanderous murderous haters no they didn't like they didn't like how he worked they didn't like the way he worked they criticized his work his work so we're going to talk about work so the whole metaphor here is back in the 1960s something was going on called the space race it was america union the goal was who would be the first one to put a person on the moon uh america won yay america we won in july of 1969 we put not one person but two people on the moon it was a huge moment in human history why you got to be kidding me we put someone on the moon and all the attention back in the 1960s was on the astronauts by the time the apollo program was done we put 12 people on the moon remarkable and back then astronauts were celebrating people everybody knew their names right their household names and today if i ask you for an astronaut's name you're probably going to come up with the buzz lightyear so he's not truly an astronaut but back then they knew these people they were celebrities so we i don't want to diminish their accomplishment but i i've been focusing on well the work behind the scenes not the astronauts but the scientists and the physicists and the mathematicians and the techs and and the engineers until they did the math the rockets couldn't blast off and i think their work has been under appreciated we talked about katherine johnson that's our facsimile catherine johnson bacteria she was one of the first mathematicians helping the national rockets in the early 60s be successful brilliant woman mathematician african woman with all the pushback and racism and sexism of her age criticized criticize jesus had his critics at nasa nasa we look back at nasa and we go wow when nasa finally put people on the moon in july of 1969 well that was a historic work that was a powerful work that was a patriotic work and that was a criticized work we look at that now we look back to the lens of history go wow that was one of the great triumphs in american history and people celebrated that it galvanized america during the turbulent 1960s well if you actually do the research the vast majority of opinion polls in the 60s found that most americans were against the lunar program they thought it was too expensive they thought it was too dangerous that was a waste of talent so the work we now see is historic work putting someone on the moon at the time it was criticized by the environmentalists it was criticized by social activists it was criticized by the national organization of women because all the astronauts were dudes it was criticized by politicians it was criticized by members of the scientific community who are not part of nasa it was criticized by other nations it was criticized by people in favor of the peace movement anti-vietnam people thinking that nasa would militarize their discoveries all kinds of criticism in fact it still happens today uh now of course the space space travel has been privatized it's now billionaires in space i'm sure you're aware of that in fact this was fun did you see that um bezos has invited william shatner to be on the next flight captain kirk's going to go to space for real i thought that's kind of fun but well now it's been privatized it's not coming out of the public pocket the way it did back in the saturn program apollo program in the 60s if you go online you'll still see all the criticism people just have to hate why is that why is that here's the big principle today even if you work hard you work to be great if you work to be great someone's gonna hate is that true am i preaching to anybody maybe watching online right now or washington prison right now or in one of our campuses right now i i isn't it terrible it's a sad thing since genesis chapter three it's part of the brokenness of humanity you work hard you grind you set goals you provide the sweat and while you achieve someone else criticizes someone maybe it's not doing jack you work while they watch right you create they critique you achieve they attack why is it it's not just in science it's in every field right it's in politics it's in the arts uh it's in music think about music think about the most popular artists those those universally loved artists i mean everybody loves harry styles everybody loves drake everybody loves carrie underwood everybody loves beyonce guess what go online you'll find hate you'll find hate for all those popular you'll find hate you'll find criticism i mean to criticize queen bee i think that's a biblical sin but you'll find that people do this if you want to be great people are going to hate it happens in church it happens in church you know our church i get our church is not the normal church now we're a very biblical church but our methodology is not the typical and again so i don't think every church should do all everything we do right but something god's called us to do but over the years we've had some terrible hate don't go online looking for it because you'll find it and you know they they're fueled by that but some of the meanest things ever said about our church about my ministry other religious people other church people a couple years ago my name was on a list online with four of the most prominent pastors in america these guys in my field they're like a really big deal they lead large ministries they write books i mean not so my name is on that list i thought my gosh this is a really cool list my name the list was generated by a local church leader of the five pastors he went to punch in the face wow are you kidding me i thought wow that's a pretty that's the nicest list i've ever been on thank you very much for the hates so listen don't let it stop you criticism is part of life it's a bad part of life don't jesus had his haters always over and around him friend info let me show you mark chapter three mark chapter three is a great jesus story i want to show you this dynamic of play i want to say the bible with you if you allow me verse by verse my favorite way to say the bible and just unpack some of the things we see in the text so mark's gospel is about this jesus story and you're going to see the haters show up so here we go mark chapter 3 verse 1. it's on the screen right now in case you don't have your bible with you read the highlighted word it says another time he jesus another time jesus went into the thank you into the synagogue and a man was there with with a shriveled hand there was a man with a deformed hand was there all right the context of the story is the synagogue when i say three shout the word synagogue ready one two three now we have of course synagogues in our city do what the origin is the synagogue where synagogues come from a time in hebrew history called the babylonian captivity about 600 years before the birth of christ uh the babylonians came in and decimated israel destroyed the walls destroyed the cities and destroyed the temple and temple worship was a big deal in israeli life but there's no more temple they took away some of the best and brightest back to babylon if you heard the story of daniel or shadrach meshach and abednego they were jewish captives taken to babylon so if you're in babylon there's no temple if you're in israel there's no temple and temple is ground zero of worship so what do they do they innovate they build synagogues synagogues are our local houses of study of torah and a prayer and community brilliant innovation they're the satellite campuses if you will of the bible say we have satellite campuses in different places so the people of god can meet and study the bible the one thing what you see about this synagogue was an important part of jesus life but if you check out jesus family and jesus himself you'll see they're faithful and frequent in temple and in synagogue it was something they valued as a practice their family went to worship i hope your family is the same way i think god is designed as the life is you know one part intellectual and one part professional and one part relational and definitely one part the foundational part is spiritual and i'm amazed how sometimes we overlook that foundational part the spiritual part so i know i'm biased i know i'm the pastor i think church is a good idea but let me just take off my pastor hat and put on my dad hat i can't tell you as a parent the difference raising my kids in the church is made for the kids because his parents we need help am i preaching any parents parents i'll take all the help i can get right parents amen we need allies why do we need allies because our kids have idiots in their orbit right negative friends with negative ideas will tear them down help them make destructive decisions so you wanna put as many positive people in their life so i found that the student workers here at the church the volunteers the staff the team the kids team here there's a spiritual synergy as they help me raise my kids now the funny thing since you know 2019 2020 some people used to go to church have kind of drifted away from church and maybe that's you right now if that's happened if you've drifted away from church listen i get it crazy in life that good habits are tough to keep bad ones are tough to break i mean a lot of people around coral springs who used to go to church by the glades still love our church they haven't been back in a year and a half and it's not they're mad at the church it's just they have drifted away because they've gotten out of the habit with covet and the quarantine and everything if that is you i want to strongly encourage you come back to church come back to church oh if you're watching online they're staring at me let me make my case lisa had this thought the vaccine the vaccine i'm not going to preach about the vaccine so just relax but she said the people are kind of anti-vaxxed one of their thought processes this makes sense that you know we've not had long-term testing we don't know the five-year results of the vaccine or the 10-year maybe there's some unforeseen medical side effect i i i get that i'm not saying i agree with all that but i get where it's coming from so i'm not sure if i have the vaccine am i going to turn into a brain in a zombie in five years i don't know i don't think so but the bible commands believers to meet together on a regular basis you can check it out for homework hebrews chapter 10 verse 24 and 25 now 24 says the dynamic of this meeting should be encouragement that's why our church is upbeat man i mean we're radically biblical but this is a positive invite i want to inspire you i want this to be the best hour of your week i want the music the worship the creativity the message stevie handles inspiration and then in verse 25 it says and do not forget for forsake the assembly of yourselves together as some of you guys are in the habit of doing well i was saying back in the first century some people kind of drifted away from church and the author of scripture says man this is so so important so many things so if you're somebody watching online right now and you used to go to church you just get out of the habit i'm not judging you i i get it my life gets busy and it's easier just to stay home but what's going to be the five year spiritual side effect for you and your family if you disregard something this critical and that's biblical i i mean medically i don't know or we're obsessed with medical how about the emotional mental how about how about your family how about that little girl right now she's ten in five years she's 15. right now she's in third grade she'll be a sophomore then do you know the pressures sophomores face on campuses the temptations the dangers and not meaning to you've neglected building that strong spiritual and emotional foundation her finding those amazing friends in the wave youth group right leaders who can speak into the life there's allies let's just do the 10 year study 10 years now she's in college and she's smart and makes good grades you're so proud of her but her friends can be so toxic i'm telling you this let me play the prophet there'll be symptoms in our lives spiritually and mentally if we don't commit to god's house it's time to come back to church not a guilt trip it's just something it makes us healthy studies studies show this is crazy studies show that people who attend church on a regular basis live eight years longer you think you're wasting time in church you get time in church anyways i'll move on so jesus if jesus needs to go to synagogue we need to go to church right if jesus felt like regular worship was a thing for him we needed as well verse two verse two all right you'll meet you'll meet some weird people in church sometimes you'll meet some messy broken people there's some in this story verse two is on the screen right now it says in verse two some of them there in the synagogue were looking for reason to accuse jesus that's a terrible reason to be a synagogue so they watched him closely to see if he would heal this man with the hand issue heal him on the the sabbath and so these people will discover later called the pharisees the hyper religious crowd they're watching jesus see because this one guy has this withered deformed hand will jesus heal him on the sabbath why is the sabbath a big deal well the bible says the sabbath is a big deal where's that come from comes from two places genesis when god made the universe i believe in a literal six days he made humanity and life and animals and the cosmos what did he do on day number seven washed nfl right kicked back in the barca lounger had a diet diet dr pepper watch he relaxed relaxed why did god relax he was exhausted from making everything no no god's power is unlimited the bible says god never needs to slumber or rest he's always on the job by the way so god took the break as an example for you and i see work is not a bad thing work is a biblical thing some people have the erroneous idea that work is a consequence of sin no work happens in the bible before genesis 3 sin happens in genesis 3 works in genesis 2. so gen work is a blessing god made us to work students god made you to do your homework it's in the bible like three people clapping none of them students i guarantee you and so god wants us to work but i like to point to the single brothers god gave adam a job before he gave my wife just pointing that out there for the extra charge for that um but what we learned by god resting then again there's one of the ten commandments commandment number four says remember the sabbath keep it holy do no work on the sabbath that one day and seven at least you gotta take a break you can't work you know seven days a week all the time you'll fall apart god designed you to take a break so the word sabbath in the original language means appalls it means appalls it means a break so the purpose is appalls but the religious people in jesus day had added all these rules to god's rule right in in the uh in the mishnah there's actually 39 rules about the fourth commandment so now these 40 these 39 rules are binding as well if you go to the taliban by the way the mission and taliban have great things wise things but the talmud adds 24 chapters of rules about the sabbath so the time you get to jesus day the rest is now a restriction the pause is now a problem they've left what god has designed for the sake of these rules verse 3 is on the screen right now because jesus knew what was going down so jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand stand up stand i love it stand up right in front of everyone now jesus christ said okay look these guys are watching me to see if i heal you on the sabbath day and break the rules so i'll meet you after church out back and take care of your hand but he thinks you know that i know what they're up to and they're using this guy stand up right here i love to stand stand up in front of everybody and jesus asked them logical which is lawful on the sabbath do good or evil to save a life or to kill and they had nothing to say verse 5 continues verse 5 he looked around at them and what happened to loving jesus gentle jesus kissed the babies jesus he's ticked off only happens a couple times what makes him mad they're using this guy they're using this guy they don't care about this man this this is a biblical set up right here he's distressed at the stubborn of heart he said the man stretch out your hand he stretched it out and his hand was completely restored completely holistically utter to the uttermost obviously an obvious and evident miracle that no one can miss when this guy's hand changes in front of any everybody there at synagogue from deformed to whole no one missed the miracle it was remarkable what god did so here's the big question who are these people who are these critical mean people synagogue who are these people and then question number two is who do i identify with in this story question number one the answer is obvious these mean critical people are the very religious people in the story i feel awkward saying that because i'm kind of a religious person but the bad guys in this story are the very very very religious people the pharisees now if you're here right now and you're probably a guest and you're not a very religious guy you're like see honey i told you religious people they make such a mess they are such a problem they are so uptight and guess what out to a degree i can see the fact there's been a lot of bad things done in this world in the name of religion been wars fought and crusades and terrorist attacks done in the name of religion but let's be fair though there's been a lot of great things done a lot a lot more great things done in the name of religion not just christian religion most of the universities in america that were founded were founded by religious people most the hospitals almost all the orphanages by religious people every single day millions of people are fed in the name of god people without homes are given shelter clothing medical support all that done in the next please be fair now what's taking place here is a minority expression of what is clearly toxic religion man-made off-point judgmental weird religion so that that's the bad guys bad guys so david how to identify this because guess what pharisees are still around you'll still meet these kind of people in houses of worship so how do we delineate what's what's this negative kind of religion that's toxic versus what god's really looking for i wrote down three things maybe take a couple notes in your phone three things to identify these problematic people i wrote this down that religion this kind of toxic religion tends to be all about rules all about rules always drifts into legalism why jesus by contrast is about a relationship if you're new to the bible new to the claims of christ hey what does god want from you love a relationship what the bible describes is a romance with the god who made you and loved you and what made you for himself that's god's agenda he wants nothing from me you want something for you but the pharisees were all about the rules like god because he loves us said okay one day and seven take a break take a pause you'll fall apart if you work all the time without resting and they added 24 chapters of cumbersome regulation i mean things you take a step back they're silly like they legislate well you can't work on the sabbath so you can only walk so many steps when you eat you can only take so many bites the biggest bite you can take is only so big uh you can't carry a weight because carrying a weight these were the rules on the sabbath uh is wrong so how big is the weight they finally decided that carrying a weight heavier than a dried fig was work you couldn't ignite a fire you couldn't put a fire out uh you couldn't wear your false teeth because false teeth that is a load and you're carrying a load and you're doing work crazy stuff a woman could not look in the mirror because you might see a gray hair want to pluck the gray hair and that is styling your hair um you couldn't take a bath on the sabbath because you might splash water on the floor from your bath and splashing water on the floor is washing the floor and washing the floor of course is work well you couldn't pick up your chair because your chair is heavier than a fig you could drag your chair unless your chair was on a dirt floor and that would make a furrow and making a furrow is farming and farming is work and they had hundreds of rules like this that weren't just kind of dumb they were dangerous do you know how the romans defeated the jews in 70 a.d because the last jewish patriots amazing courageous people were defending masada this fortress in the desert and the romans couldn't get to him they figured out the romans finally the jews wouldn't fight on the sabbath so they built their siege ramp only on the sabbath because the jews would not fire their arrows and the jewish families died because of legalism [Music] a lot of you guys unplugged from church or synagogue why weird rules all these rules didn't make any sense when jesus responds with logic does it make any sense not to help people on the sabbath should i do bad on this here's a man who needs my help and i can help him why would i not help him so legalism or crazy religion is all about rules now somebody going awesome church by the glades no rules well not that fast not that fast we are about a relationship and i just propose this why relationships are not heavy with rules there are some rules perhaps unspoken in every valued relationship of your life you have rules of loyalty for your friendships you have rules for your business relationships you have rules for your kids parents do you have rules for your kids like six parents parents do you have rules for your kids yeah why do you have rules for your kids because they annoy you right they annoy you and they bother you and they're expensive and they get on your no you have rules for your kids why because you love them you want to be their champions you want to protect them so that's the reason why we have these rules you're not trying to legislate out the fun of their life married people married people do you have rules for your spouses you have rules for your spouses about half the room concerns me for the other half of the room like lisa and i we've written down the rules and have to save the world but we have rules right we're accountable to each other we encourage each other when we fight there are certain things you can't say and do because it's against the rules we have rules for marriage uh best one is best one is we don't date other people recommend that rule for marriage and so all true relationships have some intrinsic rules but this toxic stuff drifts into legalism and and rule keeping and judging other people that don't measure up to your rules that was the pharisees i wrote this down quickly that religion this toxic religion is all about correctness correctness well jesus is about compassion we're right jesus is wrong jesus is so wrong and by the way you you catch it's not like a random story there's not like a random sabbath there's this poor random guys on the front row with it with a deformed hand and jesus happened to be there and so it just all happened no no this is a setup this is clearly a first century sting operation the pharisees know jesus is coming and they already even by chapter three and mark they hate him they want to take him out and so they've met ahead of time like how do we get to jesus how do we how do we how do we okay his integrity it's integrity no it's seamless always speaks the truth has ever been a jesus scandal we lob these hard questions at him he handles everyone he's so wise what's his weakness where is he vulnerable someone says broken people he's a sucker for broken people we just bring some poor marginalized person in front of him even on the sabbath he won't be able to help himself so they go to the wrong side of the tracks they go to the bad part of town they find this guy they want someone obviously has an issue they see this guy with a deformed hand he's probably in poverty because times are so tough it takes two hands to earn a living and they fake they become fake friends they take him to starbucks say meet us in church right and by the way uh you know someone with a deformity had to sit in the back of synagogue because there was an erroneous theology in the day that if you had a physical issue that was god judging your sin or your parents sin which is stupid but come sit next to us on the front row these pharisees are awesome he's thinking so he gets there and he sees jesus and he recognizes their planning why are they doing that they are so convinced that they are right they're using deception they're setting a trap they're so convinced that jesus is wrong and they are right that's why in verse 5 it's so fascinating when jesus says in verse 5 on the screen says to the man stretch out your hand he stretched out his hand and it was completely restored complete everybody saw this an obvious evident mirror no smoke and mirrors they all saw his hand physically changed before every single eye in the room then what happened so what is the response in verse six verse six is now on the screen verse six verse six says um here's what happened the pharisees after this miracle went out and rethought their position on jesus they had a remarkable change of heart and became his faithful followers okay if you're reading your bible that's a fake verse i made that verse up that's not really in the bible at all that should be what happened they just saw a man's life and hand changed they just thought wow that was incredible here's actually verse six verse six and uh before that here's my last idea i'll cut you loose jesus points to truth jesus oh he's the way the truth and love jesus always points us to truth he points to truth by contrast religion tends to miss the point here is a supernatural divine miracle that changes not just the guy's hand but his life and they completely missed the point here's what really happens in verse six here's authentic biblical verse six on the screen right now after seeing the miracle the pharisees went out and began to plot with the herodians how they might kill wow instead of seeing the miracle and recognizing messiah they see the miracle and they go out and plant his murder stay stay with me stay with me talk about missing the point nobody in this group of pharisees after church stepped outside said time out guys did you just see that did you see that guy's hand grow back did you see i've never with my eyes seen something why he did a miracle the devil doesn't heal people could we be wrong about jesus i know he breaks our rules and stuff and i rules our traditions could we be wrong could because guess what if we're wrong that's really cool because then he's messiah we've been looking for messiah for years and years and years we get to usher in and protect messiah wow could we be wrong now i told you two things who are the bad guys who the critical guys the pharisees the hyper religious people i said number two who do you identify with who do you identify with in the story and you're thinking well i'm a christian i identified the disciples i would be there and have jesus back right i'd be one of the disciples i really want that's true for most of us know what i don't see and this is my opinion right now and i could be wrong i don't see people acknowledging our own fallibility much these days i see a lot of people and church people just all we do is spend all of our time trumpeting and posting how right we are i am right i am correct and by the way you're wrong you're wrong my tribe is right my group is right and you and your tribe all wrong i call it the idolatry of rightness and in my whole life and i'm way older than 30 threshold for rally um i've never seen people so locked down even christian people that we just got to thunder and champion and post our position that we are so right and when new evidence emerges we don't have the wherewithal to rethink our position or have a con conversation we're so right the pharisees when they see a miracle that should have them rethink and change their mind they double down they get in bed with the herodians who are the herodians they are jewish uh sympathizers with the romans they're complicit with the romans and the one thing the pharisees did they were nationalists they were patriotic they hated jews that sold out for the romans but this is dirty politics they get in bed with these guys why to assassinate jesus they were that blinded they were that convinced we're right jesus is wrong but you just saw a flipping miracle take a step back and i'm just so worried that right now even in churches with all these plethora of points and policies that we're so locked down you see i don't want to be a pharisee i want to be a disciple by the way let me break down the word disciple the disciple is a bigger idea than just the 12 those are apostles that means those sent forth that's a more more limited uh term disciples a term for anyone who loves and follows jesus the original language in greek disciple means a follower or wait for it a learner that mean since i follow jesus i keep learning as i follow jesus i need to be self-aware that i might not have it all figured out i need to be open humble teachable where has teachability going we can't even hold a conversation we're so convinced we're right i see friendships for years fractured i see families broken apart i see churches divided over who wears a mask and doesn't wear a mask and who takes a vaccine and are you a red person or a blue person and i want to be a jesus person and respect everybody and listen listen listen and no matter how strong i feel about my position if new evidence presents itself to have the wherewithal to go hey david's fallible i should maybe take a step back and to say these incredibly liberating words maybe i was wrong what's the last time you heard a grown-up say that on a big issue maybe i was wrong no i'm right i'm right you're wrong i'm on my facebook my instagram i'll show you how right i am by the way you know this post changed no one's minds right never only mind they change they change their mind about you sometimes but they don't change the mind on the position and even listen i know i'm stepping out my lane a little bit but i love you enough to do that from time to time we get so locked down to my group or my tribe we're all right the other tribe is all wrong there's so many issues there's so many issues national issues in america the economy and immigration and you know big issues uh death penalty and what is a marriage and where does life begin right to life uh you know term limits uh gun control uh foreign policy with all these different nations i mean i have hundreds of topics and we're right on everything and you're wrong on everything you've got to work hard to be wrong at everything that takes some effort to be wrong at everything can we talk to each other can we respect respectfully disagree can i say maybe maybe i'm wrong maybe i'm wrong not when i get more information i just change the narrative and double down i'm right say it with me maybe i was wrong maybe i was wrong maybe i was wrong guess what these are liberating words these are powerful words those are godly words when you over correct your kids parents to say hey sweetheart i got it wrong dad messed up guys say that to your wife say honey i was wrong oh she'll get turned on by i'm telling you to work out for you man it's a good thing for christians to recognize our goals to bring a lost world to a savior that's the work we've been called to do not to fight with each other and criticize on these lesser issues man the devil is having a field day in the church as people tap out on their churches over stupid stuff temporary stuff we've been called to change the world to rescue humanity that's the big thing so say with me i was wrong i was wrong it's okay i made a mistake i'm learning i was wrong we can talk i'm learning humble words about godly words so quickly last thing i wrote down so how did jesus respond to criticism so how did jesus respond to criticism because man he comes back he's not a doormat on this it's great because we all get criticized especially if you're trying to do something great so how did jesus respond to criticism i'm 20 seconds over so i'll tell you next week when you come back to church by the glades show you four things jesus does and they're remarkable because we've all been criticized unless you're doing nothing you've been criticized so how do we respond when we get hate how to respond in a godly and effective way that's next week at church by the glades powerful practical stuff and my last thought is this if you don't know jesus by way of not a religion but a relationship that's what god wants a relationship you don't do the work it's not you're being good enough or nice enough or generous enough you come jesus did the work at calvary come find a prayer partner at your campus and say i want to be saved i want a relationship with god or text the word salvation the number on the screen right now and someone will get back to you this week church i want the best for you and today i said anything that offended you i'm probably wrong i'm probably wrong i'm wrong all the time i'll probably watch this sermon in 2026 though i can't believe i said that but i'm a disciple it means i'm learning i want to be humble and teachable right will not be my god jesus is my god being correct will not be my god father thank you so much for a congregational audience a spiritual family that has maturity enough to be self-aware and humble and right now someone's listening to this guy i hope the other guys heard this i hope the other tribe really heard this no this is for all of us all of us i don't want to identify with the pharisees i want to be one of your people so jesus help me pump the brakes from time to time to take a fresh look to be open to be teachable to be humble i make this prayer in jesus name amen
