hi there I'm guy you're watching midwinter Minis and in this video My Pal Steve and Mikey are going to play a friendly game of space Hulk in my opinion at least the best Standalone board game for Games Workshop ever produced if you're unfamiliar it's surprise surprise a turn-based strategy game where small squads of elite heavily armed and armored super soldiers the Space Marine Terminators navigate the twisting confines of a seemingly abandoned space Hulk uh gargantuan labyrinthine spaceship the size of a city now inhabited by an incredibly dangerous alien race known as Gene Steelers lightning fast six limbed monsters who are lethal at close range Mikey and Steve will keep things beginner friendly by explaining their planning and the rules as they use them but here's a quick summary of the core concept so you can follow the game a bit more easily if you've never played it before if you already know how to play and don't need a refresher feel free to skip to the next chapter of the video so each turn the Space Marines go first they roll for command points which are kept in secret from the gene Steeler player and these can be used to perform additional bonus actions as and when needed these are revealed at the end of each turn to show the Space Marine player wasn't cheating or forgot how many they had and accidentally used Too Many if they get this wrong the gene Steelers win the game straight away stuff happens in the game with action points each Terminator model gets four action points to spend on things like moving forward shooting and opening doors and because they're quite bulky turning 90 degrees also costs an action point and moving backwards costs two action points for shooting while standing still and shooting their storm bolters cost one action point they can fire their storm bolters for free each time they move so it's nearly always more sensible to do that some actions cost two points like firing the heavy flamer and engaging OverWatch which lets the Terminator shoot oncoming enemies in the gene Steelers go the first time a Terminator fires a storm Bolter at a Target it rolls two dice but needs at least one result of a six to kill a jeans dealer if it fails and chooses to fire again if it's remains stationary it can try again for an extra action point but because of the sustained fire rule it only needs a 5 this time the heavy flamer is much more deadly killing everything that's already on or moving through a tile on a two plus but it only has fuel enough for six shots so the Space Marine player has to use the ammo wisely the mission Steven Mikey will be playing also uses the Space Marine psycho who can use a pool of PSI points to manifest things like psychic barriers and to improve his close combat score the gene Steelers get six action points each and can move diagonally to represent their incredible speed they also enter play as blips tokens which contain one two or sometimes three Gene Steelers which can be voluntarily revealed by the gene Steeler player at any point or must be revealed if any Terminator has line of sight to them finally close combat the aim of close combat is to Simply roll higher than your opponent however chance is in the gene Steelers favor because while regular Terminators get to roll just one dice jeans dealers get to roll three we're not looking at the totals each player picks their highest dice roll and uses that single number Terminators with lightning claws get to roll two dice plus one to their highest role and the librarian rolls one dice and adds one to the total and as I already said can boost it with side points to you all but guarantee Victory while he's still got the psychic energy to play with ideally the Terminators want to keep their distance from the gene Steelers picking them off with their storm bolters and blowing them away in OverWatch speaking of OverWatch the last important thing to know really is that if the Space Marine player rolls doubles when shooting in OverWatch during the enemy's turn their gun can jam preventing more shots during the gene Steelers go to unjam they have to use one command Point these can't be unused action points from their turn they have to be command points so the Space Marine player will always want to keep a couple of emergency points in the bank just in case they have to clear any jams a really fun element of space Hulk is that while the gene Steeler player has all the time in the world to make decisions during their time the Space Marine player is on the clock and has to complete all of their decisions and turn before their timer runs out okay that should be pretty much everything you need to know to enjoy the game now as this is just a fun one-off video and not part of a series we're going to be playing Mission 8 Escape Route the Terminators have to make their way through this map to the exit Point carrying a relic that they already have in their possession seems simple enough but the gene Steelers have a lot of possible entry points all over the map and also the central five doors are jammed and can only be open by destroying them to make things worse the gene Steelers get more and more blips to deploy each turn starting with one but ending up receiving three blips every go by turn seven so the Space Marines could easily be overrun if they don't make quick progress now to win all the Space Marines need to do is have a single Terminator get through the exit Point holding the Relic doable right well we'll see shall we let's meet the players and start the game yo unlike it and we're playing the Terminators today more atmospheric this is an app dark atmospheric brooding between playing the Terminators and it's very serious and Evil Stephen hello it's me again uh I'm gonna be piloting the uh the Steelers hordes and hordes of Steelers so Look Away Steve because I have a command phase where I decide if I want so many command points so I'm going to start with this many unless I want to re-roll it which I do oh cool okay that's a great role I mean Poker Face Time that's a great role and then we move into my action phase would you like to start the timer Steve oh right now it's time to uh put the pressure on I'm going to start with jazz that's in the front and he's gonna walk and try and shoot this door down so he's going to move one space and he's going to try and shoot I do I'll stop it that's the door blown out because I rolled the six one two three and that's his action points done and then everybody else is just gonna go one two three four I could have done with an OverWatch there actually but never mind uh one two three four and then the little the little object the little iPad that's been done that's very quick dude that's what they say I'm on speedrun.com uh spacehawk the board game early entrance I'm number one in the world okay so now I'm gonna pick a blip and this is how many I have I wonder if uh he might want to go this way reinforcement phase is one more blip this money Oh What A Brave man Brave jeans dealer man I've got Limitless horde it doesn't matter now in the gene Steeler action phase each blip gets six action points and unlike Terminators they can move diagonally for just one point so Steve's moving his Jean Steelers closer what's your game plan Steve I'm not giving the game away yet the the tactic is kill everything and then have KFC oh my God that's mine as well that's turn one done the way nearly every scenario works is that the gene Steelers slowly start getting more and more blips as the game turns progress so it's extremely important for the Space Marine player to make quick progress to stop things getting out of hand and being overrun so turn two my command phase once again so here's my command points Look Away Steven oh I'm gonna re-roll it I'm not really don't tell him we're gonna do a very cool tactic now it's called the same thing I did last turn I'm gonna run and shoot some dos so he's going to move forward and shoot this door so here's another six Bazinga that's what we say bazinka now this is ridiculous goodbye three doors uh so that was one action two three four and then we're gonna spend two command points to OverWatch we put one of these down like this yeah come closer Steve I dare you okay so the flamer man he's gonna turn that's gonna cost one action point and then move one and open the door and then I'm gonna spend his last action point and the command point to go like this take that yeah go through the fire go on open the door come and say hello and then I'm just gonna charge with everyone else and by charge I mean one two three four one two three four oh he could he could do something one two I think it'll be fine three four he's interrupted there and then the object's gonna go he's playing his iPad he's watching the movie watching YouTube yeah subscribing to bid with videos that's what he's doing yeah okay we're back to Gene Steeler turn two here we go then this this many oh it's a good way that's a bad draw in it unlucky it's all right it does the job I'm starting to notice a pattern now so I think we're gonna go up here and now we're going to charge to the middle and die all right okay we're gonna open the door oh Brave boy fire also blocks line of sight so the Jean Steeler blip isn't revealed yet a shade on attack another action move in yeah sure okay now we're going to move the last blip almost choppy choppy stab time almost and then you'll be dead Jean steel is done now at the start of Space Marine turn three the flame tokens get removed and now there's nothing blocking line of sight to the gene Steeler blip so now show me you can turn it over it's gonna be one single stealer Rose you stole my flame also the OverWatch token gets removed Mikey now rolls to see how many command points he gets this turn I roll here again Look Away Steve it's a great role it's a really good really really good roll so good so it turns out that the librarian is just like a sergeant in combat but he doesn't let you reroll the command points like a sergeant so that's my mistake thankfully unbeknownst to Steve it hasn't made much of a difference because the only good dice roll I rolled naturally all rolled worse so uh we'll we'll stop doing that from this point on right come at me bro he's in the move and shoot that door are you ready third time's the charm that's what they call that okay bugger and that's a double double which means he's jammed oh no shoe sting so his second action is going to be unjam the storm Balter and then he's gonna move and shoot again here we go so that's the reaction so far okay that's no good and then he's gonna move again and because I'm shooting again I get a sustained fire on fives now so I need to find instead of a six like neither of those so that was rubbish so the next man baz one two three OverWatch because he's gonna spend a command point to do that with the one extra action point and then these guys are just gonna run forward this man is going to be an absolute boyo and just drop a flavor in here ready to watch a genius dealer melt just like this yes goodbye knife hands goodbye indeed so the tactic of getting him to use two of his flamers to kill one stealer has worked quite nicely okay so reinforcement phase Steelers turn three uh what a bad drawer again not such a shame gonna deploy this and right and now it's on to movement it's beautiful now the sneaky bit or not so sneaky bit just charge straight oh I can't see you there very good so after just some tactical sneaky moving and no revealing at all that's Gene Steelers turn three done so the end of mission step the OverWatch is gone and so is the flamer rubbish command Point time with no re-rolls oh thank God I don't need to re-roll this point in time start the timer Steve right you're gonna see some extreme tactics now off we go I'm gonna move and shoot at door you ready doubles okay cool that was great so you're going to spend an action to unjam and then we're gonna move and this door is going to die there we go goodbye door so then he's gonna move one I'm gonna spend two command points to OverWatch with him are you ready for the ultimate plan yeah yeah okay so he is gonna go one two three four like so nice and easy and then the librarian is going to drop a force barrier for two action points and he's gonna put that yeah because I'm just going to this one actually unexpected so that means that that blip can't move unless he goes backwards which would be very funny and then his other two action points he's gonna guard so he can be better in combat I think it's re-roll um and then the other guy behind him is gonna guard because he can't move and then the flamer man is gonna go or one two three four like so and just he's not gonna turn because that's illegal obviously I knew that yeah so Gene Steeler turn four now which means I get two of these so if things have escalated pretty quickly oh dear lord we're going to lurk just here this guy is gonna go over here uh and now it's movement so it is one two three four five six it's very close three four five six this guy can't move and now is the the spicy bit oh no Steve Reveals His blip and it contains three jeans dealers the max number it could have and this could spell big trouble for Mikey's terminators [Music] okay and off we go um so Steve is attacking me from behind so if I survive which I'm gonna or I'll turn around which is gonna cost me a lot of action points to get background however that's not a problem so Steve You're Gonna Roll three Dice and then I'm Gonna Roll one and I've got to roll higher than you to live yeah good luck Steve three two one two sixes and two sixes no I'm dead very sad come on baz come out there we go it's okay you're the sacrificial lamb so the steam are only used four to get where he was so he's still got a couple more so he can go into the back of the next Marine all right so more sixes for me surely there's a five another six oh no Jeffrey no this has taken a very Swift right turn I was quite comfortable the minute ago okay so running the rest of the Steelers in and time for another attack but you get to do some special things I think I do I'm guarding are you ready for this I don't even need to re-roll good go for it Steve just roll really really high here we go there you go that's a three you've rolled it a five a four and a two so your house is five so I'm gonna reroll with guard that's five there we go and then I'm gonna spend a side point to increase it by one to make it six which means you you're out of there oh you get chopped down so sad okay let's have uh let's have another go three the same's gonna happen you know that day yeah all right okay four now we're attacking you've rolled a five two fives and a four I'm gonna guard to re-roll it here we go there's a five I'm gonna spend one side point three crazy to a six like this take that he's done it again get it chopped one librarian versus the world yeah go home and tell everyone what happened here today I remember what the library did to us yeah that's the end of the uh stainless term four sweet again at the start of the Space Marines turn all the markers are removed you you got a job to do Mr Flame Boy all right here's my current points Look Away Steve I'll take that that'll be fine it's all right I'm going to remove the barrier and then spend two action points to put it back down let's go let's go baby so then the librarian is gonna continue the assault time for shooting you're gonna get it in the bum this time take this on a six got down oh so that's three action points he's gonna move again and shoot again for free because he's a boy and that's a cocked one because we said that sure that's not a kill and and then he's gonna spend two command points to OverWatch so you want to move there yeah iPad boy iPad kid those are those good again like so he's gonna take his iPad with him so that's three actions and then finally flame on flashing on Torch we'll call him scene he's gonna go one two and then shoot there and that's him done fine yes and I am only halfway through the flame tank and we're almost finishing the game clearly as you can see so I don't even I might even just leave these to one side I really need this one yeah sure and remind me how many of them he's killed uh one okay that's good it seems like it seems like one more than you've killed with the flamer very true okay and it's time for uh the Steelers reinforcement phase so we've got this many how many I don't know who knows so they both land here for lurking all right and then movement I can open doors yes yes isn't that your spaceship yeah oh yeah maybe yeah so you know with the door handle it's not nasty um I want to move the blip and I don't want to reveal it which is lucky because one of my Steelers is blocking a line of sight four four five now which way am I gonna go six oh sneaky to these guys over here I mean this one guy over here these guys one two three four five six oh he's waiting playing the long game so we're gonna move these other two blips now this is starting to get uh quite crowded okay we're gonna we're gonna uh Brave the fireball let's see how well this goes Khan one on the board are you ready on a two plus how dead are they how are you feeling about this one pretty sure they're dead they are dead they're very dead what were they because you said they multiple times oh it's like one rused again God damn rused again one more dead that's all I care about this is where I get shot a lot so we're gonna turn round but every time I turn somebody gets to take a pot shot at me I roll the six six you're dead still is dead take him off get get gone get wrecked Steve round over the markers get removed and Mikey only used two of his possible four command points probably saving them just in case his gun Jam during OverWatch turn six the winning turn I like to call it I'm Gonna Roll my command points Look Away Steve oh it could have been better six isn't it we'll start the timer I guess oh yeah yeah are you ready don't forget about that so my first action will be to do a psychic barrier look at that how cool is that and then we're gonna move are we gonna move any more Steve that's four actions are we gonna spend any command points yes we are we're gonna go one and OverWatch and then his old pal behind him Mr choppy yeah he's gonna go one two three and he's added off the iPad he's watched all of his shows now so he's gonna pass it and it's a librarian's turn for Netflix and then the flamer is going to spend all the points to go one two three four and then we'll spend one action command point to go five like that so yeah so because he's got range twelve let's just double check range 12 he could drop a flavor template in there if I wanted to see you with it oh go on then Steve it's wrong again all right I'm gonna get right two tokens stainless reinforcement turned five we've got these two so I'm gonna put both of them here okay and then it's movement all right I'm going to open this door I'm just gonna leave him there smart and then these guys one two three four five I can't see that I can see yeah oh you can see me now aren't you I can see you sir okay nice try oh you're right you're right you're gonna hide this turn I'm afraid so I can just go here and here oh these guys are going to reveal themselves it's three isn't it it is three there we go barrier paid off these guys here are going to reveal themselves as well you've been drawing quite well there sir this is great I'm gonna get some shooting days these guys now because they've revealed they've still got their exceptions to go what we're going to do is split the three of them across the rooms so that even if he does flame he's only going to get one of them it's keeping you occupied and pinned over there we're good [Laughter] are you gonna do anything with those three I think we're gonna have to do something with them aren't we we're gonna have to run them in OverWatch so let's let's go that's a five so you get to go again it's the same thing now so I'm fives there's a dead Gene stealer my friend because they rolled a five oh we came together holding hands romantic day on the spacewalk they're just gonna poke their head around the corner have a look and then decide not to that's fun for me so that's my barrier down once again very sad OverWatch down also very sad here's some command points for you okay cool that's good yeah so I've got to get over here uh Steve is very kindly opened and left the dot open for me for now uh but obviously I have to get past this and I can't see them until I'm right next to it because they're around the corner she's very bad but I think it's gonna be okay I've got a game plan and it's gonna start with the flavor are you ready just a two mate okay that's a two see that's all I needed sorry and then he's gonna with his last two action points go one two problem is now which Corridor do you want to close drop the barrier here oh that's unfortunate I'm gonna go for one two three four command point five and shoot you as I walk in and here's a dead Gene stealer are you ready yeah sixes oh um and then we're gonna spend another command point to shoot yeah and then we're just gonna run the big Angry choppy boy and he's gonna do what he's been doing all game and following behind and that's my turn done I'm gonna be spending a lot of side points in a minute I think so steal a turn six reinforcement phase I get these two and we're gonna we're gonna put those just here not again [Laughter] one two yeah three four five six one two three four five six very good he opened the door we're off uh and now I wanted to do the attacks first no no we've got other things to do there was a plan because now we've got line of sight block we can go one two three four five six oh dear and we can go one two three four five six one two three four five six so you're gonna follow me to get everybody moving out no one's starting yeah maybe why not the reason why we moved to that other Steeler in front of the librarian was to block line of sight that means I can now move my blips all the way around the corner and down the corridor without revealing them once they're revealed if there's more than one stealer in there obviously they'll then be able to deploy and take up more space it just means I get more Steelers in the way sacrificing one attack Savage yeah and that is the end of my turn what a great turn I am about to have going on to ten seven so you get three blips now yes oh dear God I could really have done with a few lashes healers right in my face at this point so I could like run barrier up there all right Look Away Steve here we go command Point time I'm gonna get the worst roll ever it's the worst roll ever that's gonna be fine The Librarian Is Gonna Do Something extravagant are you ready let me get lessons spend two action points and two side points to put a barrier there sad I know I know they're two threes that's why and then he's going to stand and shoot so we're just gonna shoot and roll the six on these two dice like this see oh told you okay I did tell you oh this could go badly now show me the money that's what we say now so all I have to do is do the first blip because it's going to block line of sight for the next ones correct it's a one just a one okay so he's got one action point left he's going to OverWatch by spending the Commando funnily enough you don't want to move him out the way and let choppy boy through oh I would love to move him out the way Steve but I don't want to spend my other Five Command points that I may or may not have his friend behind him he's gonna be moral support and guard just in case that's a great idea actually and then the flamer who has two shots left that is plenty oh you don't want hugs no but they know turn seven okay oh dear God Steelers turn seven there's a reinforcement and now we have these I'm not even hiding them now this one just here and then these guys we're gonna go here again funnily enough and now it's movement unfortunately I can't really do a lot with the boys behind the barrier we're going to reveal the ones at the back how many is it two ah cool and now we have a decision to make uh we're limited on what we can do now we need to get down the corridor a bit further we're gonna go full rush now then you're gonna try OverWatch me oh look at that here's the six are you ready okay two here's a six are you ready yeah ready I hope sustained fire does kill him because I shot again oh but I did double five it so I do jam oh so that's unfortunate yeah you've just revealed your blip it's just the one oh we've got movement left so we're gonna move this little dude that was one two three I can see you there yeah and you know what you're gonna have a little shot I don't think I will and jam I'm feeling nice I'm feeling really really really nice today it's for free what's that no one Jam cost me a command Point okay I don't think I will either it might be because I run out come on points I think that it feels only fair to um fight stab okay Librarians have an advantage in close combat and plus one to whatever they roll and they can augment their roles using their PSI points I've rolled a three so I'm going to use a PSI point to make it a four even Stephen Even Stevens so nothing happens two more hits now two more yeah okay good luck you rolled a five here's a five yeah that works out okay I'll be spending four side points to make my dice roller five with plus one goodbye jeans dealer okay it's a good thing I don't have any more Steelers right next to you oh wait here's one more than yours you roll the six here's another six okay oh God uh this has gotten very badly I have five side points left I think I'm gonna have to go Seven Beat That Roll sevens go in the end no I can't roll seven okay all I gotta do now is run down that Corridor kill everybody and get through the door easy peasy he can't make it can he no oh thank God [Music] and now we can go one two three four five six oh no one two three four four is fine Falls fine because of numbers funny convenient place to stop if you had a three counts two three four five six oh oh yeah look at that again what a great place to start one two three four yeah just that's fine too yeah no that's that's good great oh dear lord it's gonna be very bad because I don't have any barriers left and my flame is all the way over here so we're gonna get rid of our token so we're no longer jammed and we no longer bury it uh here's some command points Steve look away okay that's a great role that's exactly what I need I'm going to shoot funnily enough yep I'm gonna shoot this jeans dealer here okey-doke ready yeah so that's one action point action point number two again fives take them off there we go and then his third action point is to shoot this one okay it's a double six oh I mean close enough that'll do enough right now they get spicy take your mouth [Music] [Laughter] this is not good for me so those three actions action number four is not looking good spend his last action point to move one he's gonna use one command point two command points to do this and he's gonna do what we call holding the fort and then Barry big claws I don't know what the names are anymore I'll get ready for some chopping because he re-rolls a dice gets two dice and adds one that's a good shout that's gonna be good he's gonna kill you he's gonna do a murder what about MVP so he's gonna go well around here I think he's there you got some flame left I have lovely she's uh going badly okay you're right Steelers again reinforcement phase three more blips let's see what we've got okay I don't know but judging on guys face it should be fun okay this one over here I'm gonna put one more over here and then one here so now movement one two three four five six beautiful you stand that tail and then one two three four you should only go one more I'm good no just there's five steps nice I like it there choppy time let's see what happens choppy time three Barry big claws is better ready plus one two dice and I can re-roll one of the dice okay six um we roll one of the dice but not both what does that mean uh he says uh Steve go leaves me alone and just pretends he only rolled the fall oh it's a Barry big Club oh this very quickly that could have gone so well just sit there just watch a movie just relax don't worry about what's going on put on some great animation by the warhammers do you get out yeah from behind here we go I get plus one oh three one he's dead very dead take that so I think I turn now okay so the librarian I was holding his ground we've got a menacingly move this blip behind the library the marker whoops whoops that's what it sounds like on his little scanner yeah and we're just going to move the rest of them up just because great high and swing can you roll me a triple one again please for the love of God I get plus one here we go three is uh morally higher than six I think where's your side points now it's a librarian just because great I'll just move them up oh yeah come on points done oh yeah you movement's done I mean I can no okay great all the way down here and this is how you treat me uh I'm Gonna Roll my command points are you ready for the best move you've ever seen five take that take that flame a man yep here we go one two three punch you're just gonna punch okay do you get to fight back still I'm yeah I think so cool well you're sorry you're dead here's a bowl Fest go on then [Laughter] damn walks up slowly caresses in my face back gently okay that did not go well okay so that went uh that went well I got out of hand pretty quickly that was fine that was so fine first base Ready Player right there I think um I think that many blips is not really needed to make the game work I mean I pulled some pretty good ones quite early on and if we have a look at what's on the table now it's uh oh I can't wait because I can see like it's very fair how you're very nicely spaced out to place three genes deals are nearly every blip I had no chance I had no chance were the ones you only had another 21 Gene Steelers on the board who's the real winner that was a great game that was fun that was very good and there we go a conclusive Gene stealer Victory I hope you've enjoyed this fun little casual game
