Lena Miculek and Daniel Horner Take On Multigun Nationals

[Music] finally oh god in me right there [Music] i'm back it's been like three years since i've competed this is my grand debut the 2022 multi-gun nationals daniel and i have spent the last 10 days together training our butts off to be honest it all comes down to now [Music] i'm lena mitch luke with sig sauer i felt good for this first stage of the day so lena and i are teammates we've been training together the last 10 days but we've known each other for last 15 years and it's really great to have you know a 50-time world champion watching me train giving me critiques you know just allows me to be better faster nationals is 12 courses of fire over three days it is long range up close speed shoot with your rifle bird shots slugs pistols and every combination you can imagine [Music] this is the elite of the elite so we're on what's called the super squad so everybody's broken up into ability groups and we're on the top squad where everybody's going for number one everybody there shows up to win this match so they come from all over the country and we're here to see who's the best this is the biggest match of the year to win [Music] daniel horner professional shooter for sig sauer 52 82 now dan is like 13 14 time defending national champion and this you're about to see why because out of everyone here he is the only one that is choosing to do the last portion of this stage all pistol now we all have the option and we all thought about it we all know that it has the possibility of being faster but the disaster factor is huge like you have to be a hero to make it work and he's going to go for it [Music] daniel before coming to sig sauer spent 14 years in the amu the army marksmanship unit he was the head coach there he teaches military in my mind and in reality he is the trainer of elite trainers within the military and now we snagged him at sig it's really nice to come to something like this and know you have the best equipment here and it's up to you to execute the competition is absolutely fierce here everybody is waiting for you to stumble and if you do they are freaking on you this is perfection that's what's demanded here [Music] i was visualizing everything correctly um but then when it came to execution i was just a little bit off just stage after stage after stage so got to figure out what's going on with that when it came down to the last stage i shot well and then one of my good buddies nate staskewitz he shot really well also so when it came down to it he beat me by four-tenths of a point which basically equates to about five tenths of a second on pretty much any of the stages i'm really happy for him i've known him since he joined the army we worked together for a long time really good guy second overall daniel horner [Applause] if i'm going to finish second there's no body i'd rather finish second two oh lena just burned this stage down went one for one uh on all the rifle targets shot shotgun really good [Applause] i shot by far the best long-range rifle i've ever shot in competition and i credit dan with in the last 10 days of training and then shotgun was just freaking back on par like that was my strength before but it's been so long since i've really got to compete with it and it just freaking felt great pistol the first day i was a bit stupid and i got four penalties there but those were the four slaps to the face that i needed and i freaking got it back together and not a not another one in the last two days competing so i'm super proud of how how i've returned to three gun i feel freaking i feel really good about it [Music] [Applause] was my first love in the shooting sports and it's what made me commit to doing this full-time and like getting my ged early and going hardcore at 15 and i really haven't stopped since and then i took a three-year break from it and to come back and not only win nationals but to be just like welcome back into the community and like be around the people and remember how much i love the controlled chaos of it all like it feels like home and to be able to share it not only with daniel my teammate who's also one of my best friends but my dad and so many familiar faces i just love it i absolutely do
