so FSR 3 frame generation has been a pretty hot topic recently as it tries to go up against nvidia's dlss 3 frame generation it originally launched with only like two games for spoken in Immortals of AVM and the list of officially supported games is still relatively small but it is slowly growing and luckily FSR 3 frame generation is open source so it can be modded into games and real quick if you don't know how frame generation Works what it essentially does is it inserts a generated frame in between two normal frames and that's how it boosts the FPS it's pretty much frame interpolation and honestly it's pretty dang cool and in today's video we're going to be testing FSR 3 frame generation on the legion go and RG Ally in a couple demanding games such as Avatar frontiers of Pandora and Immortals of AVM Modern Warfare 3 just added FSR 3 into multiplayer including frame generation so we're definitely going to have to check that out and see how it performs in that game and it'll definitely be interesting because of the online competitive aspect of it and we've got two other games that are more on the Indie side that have added frame generation as well a stencil which is a Souls like game and farming simulator 22 and for the system settings we're using the latest AMD driver which is 24.11 6 GB of vram and all testing was done at 30 watt CDP now that we have all our bases covered let's get straight into it so starting off with Modern Warfare 3 I Ed the 24/7 shipment playlist to try and keep the map consistent because it's pretty hard to try and do that while playing multiplayer and for the base settings I use the basic preset with FSR 3.0 sets to balance and at 720p both systems handle this game pretty great if you don't know mod Warfare 3 has already been very playable especially with all the driver updates but here on the legion go we're averaging about 122 to 124 frames which is beyond playable and our 1% low is really good as well sitting at around 89 to 90 FPS so really great performance on the legion go without frame Generation The Ally on the other hand handles this game like a champ as well but it does trail behind the legion go as it averages 116 to 118 frames so at the highest values it's down by like six frames there is a bigger difference in the 1% low here on the Ally as it sits somewhere around the mid-60s to the low 7s so like I said earlier this game is pretty playable on both systems at 720p without frame Generation Now turning on frame generation wow we see massive improvements I did have the game cap at 144 Herz using rever sooner but as you can see we're definitely getting above 144 frames because this thing is not dropping at all on both systems when I saw this I was pretty shocked and happy I mean the fact that this technology gives us this much of an FPS boost with just a flip of a switch is absolutely insane now while using this I did feel like there was some sort of lag or delay while using mouse and keyboard especially while making Fast adjustments but I can't even really get mad at it because I know this Tech is still new and it's not going to be perfect but I mean just imagine this technology in the future it's just going to get better okay moving on to 900p with frame generation turned off once again both systems handle this with no problem the legion go does have the edge though averaging around 110 to 111 FPS and it has a higher 1% low of 76 the Ally Trails behind with an average of 99 to 100 FPS so the go is ahead by like 10 or so frames and our 1% low value is much lower here sitting around the low to mid-50s but it's still very playable on the Ally as well okay now turning on the VD magic of frame generation at 900p we gain a massive performance once again as we jump to an average of 144 frames for the legion go with a 1% low of 140 FPS and the FPS numbers are not moving so we're pretty much getting a locked 144 FPS experience here so pretty impressive for the Allies same thing great performance on the average FPS side it's pretty much on par with the legion go sitting at around 143 to 144 FPS however there is a pretty big difference in the 1% low value as we're getting a 1% low that fluctuates from around 117 to the mid to low 120 FPS now you probably won't notice that in game but I'm just pointing it out okay moving on to our highest resolution at 1080p we drop into the high 80s for the legion go as we get average FPS that hovers around 87 to 90 FPS and we have a really good 1% low of 63 FPS so very playable on the legion go without frame generation at 1080p on the Ally we're averaging an FPS of 84 to 85 FPS and our 1% low is fluctuating in the low 50s so the legion go does take the cake here at 1080p but the Ally is still performing pretty great here as well activating frame generation the legion go jumps an average FPS of 127 to 128 FPS so a massive Improvement as opposed to without frame generation we're getting about 38 frames more with it on at the highest values for the Ali we're gaining an average of 115 to 117 frames so a massive Improvement here as well for the Ally so the difference in the average FPS is about 11 frames so that is well outside the margin of error and there is about a 10 or so frame difference in the 1% low value as well the go has a better value of about 94 FPS while the Ally gets a value of 81 to 82 FPS so great performance on both systems at pretty much all the resolutions with or without frame generation here on mod Warfare 3 up next we have a stencil this is the souls like game I mentioned earlier it has some pretty cool gameplay set in a dark gritty world I use medium settings with FSR 3.0 set to balance and I just walked around this pathway and at 720p with frame gen turned off on the legion go we got an average of around 110 to 112 frames per second and our 1% low is pretty good as well sitting at around 76 to 77 FPS and for the Ally we got an average around 109 to 111 FPS with a pretty similar 1% low around 78 to 80 FPS so pretty good performance numbers for both systems without frame gen here in this scene turning on frame generation we get a massive performance boost shooting us up to 144 FPS for both systems and our 1% lows are pretty identical as well the Ally is just off by like four frames but man look at that frame time graph it's literally Flawless there's like no spikes on that thing at all moving on to 900p with frame generation turned off we're averaging about 88 to 90 FPS on the legion go and the Ally Trails behind with an average around 84 to 86 FPS and the one % lows are pretty similar here sitting around 66 FPS so nice performance here with frame gen turned off at 900p enabling frame generation we gain nice beuse in performance for both systems the legion go went from an average in the high 80s to an average around 128 to 130 FPS and the 1% low is much better here as well sitting around 103 to 104 FPS where previously sat at 66 FPS the Ally is averaging around 126 to 128 frames per second and the 1% low is a lot better here as well hovering around 98 to 99 FPS s so really nice performance numbers with fren turned on at 900p at 1080p we drop into the 70s for the legion go as we gain average FPS around 70 to 72 frames per second and our 1% low Drop to the low 50 sitting around 52 to 53 frames the Ally Trails behind here with an average of 6769 FPS and it has a pretty identical 1% low of 52 FPS I'd say these are pretty impressive numbers at 1080p without frame generation enabling frame generation at 1080p as expected we getting nice boost in performance the legion go is getting an FPS average of 100 101 to 103 frames and the 1% low value is pretty good sitting around 82 to 84 FPS the alies is giving us pretty similar numbers in the average as well getting about 101 to 102 frames the 1% low is a tad bit better here sitting around 86 to 87 FPS so with frame generation turned on we got almost 33 extra frames so yeah we gained some pretty impressive numbers with frame generation turned on here on a stencil now moving on to Avatar frontiers of Pandora this is a game I'm not expecting to run well on either of these systems because it is a very very demanding game this this is a game that you're going to want to play on your actual desktop PC but nonetheless I think it's still worth it to see what kind of performance B frame generation can net us with a taxing game like this so for the base settings I use the low preset and fsar 3 sets of performance because we're going to need as much performance help as possible and for the test I just use the in-game Benchmark tool now I wasn't able to use MSI afterburner to record the FPS because for some reason with it on the game would not activate frame generation so I just had to use the numbers from The Benchmark and right away even at 720p with all the help these systems can get with FSR 3 on performance and at low settings you can see they're really struggling it's pretty much a slideshow we're getting dips and FPS like crazy on both systems with frame gen turned off so I would say for me at least this would not be a playable experience on both systems at the end of The Benchmark we got an average FPS of 37 in a really poor 1% low of 6 FPS for the go and the Ally isn't much better either as it gets an average FPS of 35 and we got the same 1% low of 6 FPS now with frame gen turned on we do see a pretty big performance boost we're now somewhere between the mid-40s and 60s and FPS for both systems with frames and turned on as opposed to with the off we were getting somewhere in the 30s in this scene here and at the end of The Benchmark we got an FPS average of 62 for the legion go and a 1% low of 26 which is a rather poor 1% low value for this FPS when compared to the test we did with frame gen turned off which gave us an FPS average of 37 we're getting 25 frames extra with frame gen turned on which is pretty incredible giving that this game is very demanding as for the Ally we got an average FPS of 59 and once again a rather poor 1% low value of 28 FPS for this frame rate now although these numbers seem very promising and it might even make you think that it's playable the stuttering issues are still present and you can literally see it in the benchmark test that we're skipping frames and stuttering and all of that stuff but I don't blame the game it's just that obviously the hardware we're playing this game at is very limited we don't have a dedicated GPU moving on to 900p with frame gen turned off things obviously don't get better we still have the stuttering issues and we're still having around that 30 FPS mark So at the end of this Benchmark we ended up getting an average of 30 FPS for Legion go and 28 for the Ally and it has a really bad 1% low of 2 FPS enabling frame generation does give us a nice basent performance once again for the legion go we're getting about 19 extra frames and our 1% low is much better as well sitting at 27 FPS without frame gen it was sitting at 7 FPS the RG Ally got an average of 46 frames per second but its 1% low is down by almost 11 frames when compared to Legion go moving on to 1080p with Fram and turned off we do lose a lot of performance at this resolution for the legion go we got an average of 23 FPS and for the Ally we got an average of 22 FPS turning on frame generation we gained some really good performance in the averages and the 1% lows for the legion go we got an average of 40 FPS and a much improved 1% low of 21 and the Ally Trails behind with an average of 37 FPS and once again a much improved 1% low of 21 as well so yeah turning on frame generation did give us some nice performance numbers particularly for a game that is this demanding unfortunately this is one of those games that's out of the league of the r Ally and Legion go but it is still very impressive and promising to see improvements like this with frame generation because in the future as this technology gets better better we can probably begin to play demanding games like this on future handhelds and Motors of avum is up next this is another game that I didn't really expect for it to run well on either of these systems because it is one of those really demanding games but I'd say it performed better than I expected I just used the low preset with fsar 3 sets of performance and I just used the beginning part of the game where you just follow the character named Luna and at 720p the legion go gave us an average of 54 frames and a 1% low around 31 FPS the Ally on the other hand is actually outperforming the legion go here averaging around 62 FPS and the 1% low is better here as well sitting around 34 to 35 FPS turning on frame generation we get a performance boost that puts us in the mid to high 9s for both systems the legion goes averaging 98 to 100 FPS but the 1% low I would say is disappointing sitting in the low 40s the Ally is pretty similar as well getting about 95 to 96 FPS and the 1% low hovers from the high 30s to the low 40s so we did gain some good performance one thing that is really weird though is that that frame time graph is very oddl looking I'm actually not sure what's going on with it moving on to 900p with frame generation turned off the legion go is averaging around 53 FPS with a 1% low around 32 to 33 FPS on the allly we're getting a bit more performance as we're averaging 55 FPS with a pretty similar 1% low turning on frame generation we jump into the low 80s for the go averaging 81 FPS and our 1% low actually got worse dropping to about 25 to 30 FPS the Allies is delivering pretty similar performance as well giving us an average around 80 FPS and the 1% low hovers between 24 to 27 FPS so we did see a nice Improvement in the average FPS but the 1% lows took a slight dip and as you can see we still have that weird looking frame time graph moving on to 1080p the game is looking really sharp and we're getting an average FPS of 43 frames for the legion go and the 1% lows are pretty much identical sitting mostly at 25 to 26 FPS for both systems with frame gen turned on we jump into the mid-60s for both systems and the 1% lows are pretty identical here as well so we got 22 extra frames for the go and 20 for the Ally with frame generation turned on at 1080p so I would say that's pretty impressive here we have Farming Simulator 22 a cozy looking game I use the medium preset with FSR 3 sets to to balance and for this test I just walked around my farm and at 720p the legion goes averaging 136 to 137 frames per second with a really good 1% low of 92 FPS the Ally Trails behind with an average FPS of 133 to 134 frames and a lower 1% low that hovers around 82 to 84 frames so pretty good performance without frame Generation Now turning on frame generation we get an FPS average of 144 frames per second for both systems and the 1% lows are pretty identical as well so pretty nice performance boost here for both systems moving on to 900p with fr generation turned off we're getting an average FPS of 125 and the 1% low around 87 FPS for the legion go as for the Ally we're averaging 126 frames per second with a 1% low of 81 turning on frame generation at 900p the legion go is averaging 143 frames and the Allies is doing about the same averaging 143 to 144 frames the 1% low values are pretty different though the Ally has the edge here with a 1% low in the mid to high 30s at 1080p we're still getting really good frame rates on both systems for Legion go we're averaging 117 to 118 FPS s with a 1% low of 82 and for the Ally we again an average FPS of 116 the 1% low is slightly lower at 77 FPS turning on frame generation we gain almost like 16 frames for the go as we're averaging 134 frames per second now and for the Ally we get an average FPS of 133 netting us about 17 extra frames so pretty decent performance boost here at 1080p it's definitely going to be interesting to see how FSR 3 frame generation influences handheld it's definitely an exciting time right now for PC handheld gaming if you're interested in watching a recent review of the Legion go 2 and months later you can watch that right here
