today we're making an LED moon with a flying witch that'll look perfect hung on a tree your house or a wall this prop is rated for indoor or outdoor use so join me for this super simple [Music] tutorial to begin we need insulation foam board now I recommend buying the 2-in thick board that measures 4et by 8 ft next we need to either freehand it or trace it since I am making a circular figure I will probably just freehand the circle now I always use the Tracer to do more complex tracings on foam board so I'm definitely going to link that in in the description of the video but once we trace it out let's get our jigsaw and let's start cutting it out so to make a circular shape for the moon I'm not really gifted with drawing circles so we're going to do the string and screw method I'm putting a screw in the approximate Center then I'm just going to tie a simple knot right here then what you want to do is see how far out the edge is like that like that looks good okay that looks good good you can make it any size you want but I'm just going to use as much of the board as possible so it's going to come up to like this so I'm just going to cut it right over here and tie it to my marker and then we're going to go just like that keeping it nice and tight we're going to go all the way around and that's how we make our Circle to cut it out we're just going to use my jigsaw I have a regular size wood blade on it it's going to be long enough to go through the 2 in and we're just going to cut it out nicely I wanted to take a quick moment to mention the first book I've written it's called Little Olive and the Wally bat and it's available on Amazon via paperback or Kindle it's rated for kids ages 2 to 6 years old and it follows a brave little Olive that gets lost and is found by a very helpful brown bat if anyone wants to support me or read it to their little ones go check it out little Olive and the Wally bat on Amazon now let's get back back to this amazing tutorial for the witch I'm using this white sanded plywood this comes in 4T by 8 ft it is half an inch thick and now I have the print out so this is only about 4 in by 4 in I'm going to link this file right here in the description of this video so if you want to use the same one you can just click the link and then print it out and lastly we're using this easy Tracer so you put the image whatever image it is put it on the bottom and then it projects it onto whatever is in front of you so I'm going to turn off the lights we're going to project this then we're going to trace it with a marker then we're going to cut it [Music] out and this is what you should have it looks perfect it's ready to be cut out with our jigsaw so now that we've cut out our witch it's going to go like this over are soon to be moon this board is a piece of the witch that we cut out a piece of wood that we didn't use it's irregular but what I'm going to do is I'm going to use it as a backing on the back side so that this is going to be underneath it like this this is going to go like this and then we have our carriage bolts they're going to go through the witch in several different areas and it's going to be held up with this which is an expanding foam cap we have three of these caps we're simply going to go like this the Bolt's going to go through through the cap through the insulation foam board and through the plywood that's in the back so that it can all attach very nicely so we have a nut and a washer and these carriage bolts are 6 in I'm going to link everything I use with the link to where you can purchase them in the description of the video so let's start doing a hole to put the carriage bolts through so I have a 38 of an inch drill tip that we're going to do a hole and I'm going to do a hole right over here and as you can see I've put the backer board underneath it so we can just drill all the way through so that we know exactly where the carriage bolts are going to go but before I do this actually I don't want to drill into the table so I'm just putting a spare piece of plywood or OSB board that I have right under here so we don't drill into the table and now let's drill right on through now let's make a hole on these caps right in the middle there's a little Dent right there so again here's our cap we put the hole on the top we get our Carriage bolt we're going to go through it like that we're going to go through the cap underneath we're going to go through the insulation foam board all the way to the other side we'll do the same thing right over here and these are all going to go down so it'll be held like this and we can put an LED light under it so that's the last part we actually have to do cuz now we have to paint both of these I have to paint this one black I have to paint this one like a moon but before we attach them permanently we need to attach the LED strip lights underneath here so it gives that nice glow effect so I just wanted to show you all how it's going to eventually end up with these carriage bolts and why we needed the backer board and this is what the backside should look remember our regular piece then we put our washer and then we put our nut right here and Bam we'll do it to all of them we'll tighten them up really nicely and now when we turn it around this is what we should [Music] have and all of this is going to be painted going to be painted a probably a matte black so you won't even be able to see it but that's how we lift her up and just wanted to show you that part so like I said we need to paint it first before we do all of this take off the carriage bolt paint it attach the led to the back and then we can permanently do that and maybe put a hook in the back so we can attach it to the wall so let's paint this now [Music] to finish we need to apply LED strip lights I have these in white but you could use them in yellow purple whatever color you want these are 16 ft long and we're simply going to tape it to the back of it in various different POS positions this is super flexible I'm probably going to use maybe I'll use some glue this has a sticky back on it so you could just stick it but I'll probably use some glue or some cocking to hold it down and we'll be good to [Music] go one of the last things you want to do is drill a hole through the board and foam board so that you can hide the cable and have it go through it if this is going to go on a wall you want to put a saw too picture hanger make sure it's one that holds at least 50 lbs um or higher because this weighs just a little bit and I'm actually going to try to put mine on a tree branch over my garage we're going to see how that's going to go I'm not entirely sure if it's going to work but I'm going to try putting a a ubolt right over here and then put a nylon rope up to the tree to see if we can hang it this part is option two if you wanted to hang it from a tree limb or something that hangs versus Clips onto a wall we have these UB bolts over here we drove it right through I made two holes right over here and we drove it right through to the other side let me see if I can bend the camera really quickly look at that right there it went right through it has a plate on the inside and it's really being hidden by the actual witch itself and that's it now we can put a nylon rope or 550 cord and attach it to our tree I'll be using 550 cord to hoist this up to the tree and this is perfect this is has enough strength to hold so much and let's lift it up so some of you may want to know how to attach it to a tree now honestly this part is really complicated ated because my tree is over 60 ft tall and the branch that I put it on is around 45 to 50 ft off the ground so it's very high up there but I've always wanted to put something on that Branch so what I did is a lot of steps I got a baseball I got fishing wire I attached the fishing wire with some tape to the baseball I got on the Second Story of my roof and I threw that baseball as hard as I could over one of the branches once it went over I have the fishing line I got a uh rope and I attached the Rope to the fishing line I pulled it over the branch now that I have an ability to pull something over so once the Rope goes over the branch then I have two ends of the Rope I hold on to one of them and then I attach the Rope the other side of the Rope to a black extension cord that extension cord needs to go over the branch as well so once again I pull it over once I have both sides of the extension cord one is going to go plugged in and the other one is going to go attach to the back of the Moon remember we attached a ubalt and that ubt bolt is going to be the anchor so I grab the extension cord and I wrap it around the ubolt and do a simple knot with the extension cord I plug in the LED lights and the extension cord is actually going to be what you see me pulling up on the video all the way to the top and that's the way I keep my moon up there but like I said this is a little bit complicated it is risky cuz it does get windy here so I don't recommend it for everybody to do it this way if you have a smaller tree or a low hanging branch that you can reach with a ladder go that route better or attach it to your home or a wall or a fence but I just wanted to show you how I did mine not everyone's going to be able to do it but remember safety first don't do anything too [Music] crazy [Music] SP
