I remember landing my first kick flip and totally being taken back by excitement.

Like I didn’t think I’d ever do it, and then boom, the board flipped under my feet and I was still on it.

Unreal feeling.

After that, I chased that euphoria of landing tricks after hours of attempts. I really miss skating. Haven’t touched a board since high school :(

its amazing how much coaching + the right mindset can help. took me months to kickflip practicing hours a day, but i was really negative and didnt have anyone to help.

good shit. not a lot of people are able to keep shit up like this.

That coach has the patience of a god. My hats off to him.

Damn, he would have landed the grind if the metal pad didn't end. He kept wiping out when his kingpin hit the wood

That's honestly pretty amazing progression for one month. What would have helped him a little more I think would be just getting comfortable riding. That's the one skill people don't master before they start trying more advanced stuff, just being comfortable riding with speed and turning. He looked a little too wobbly on his board for a safe drop in.

The thing that is bothering in the video is the shoes. Especially the lady put her foot with the shoes on in the couch.

Overall great video

Most impressed by the drop kick. Well done. What was the hardest?

Pretty cool, but clearly this guys been on a board before. Probably a long board, but he has the balance and the turning of the trucks down right away.

Thats actually the hardest part of learning to skate. just being able to stand on a board. This dude was doing foot high carpet ollies "day 1".

it's day one of the new challenge and this month I'm trying to learn how to skateboard I've got four goals to achieve for the month which is number one ollie which is a jump on the skateboard number two kickflip which is a really cool spinning trick on the skateboard number three is to drop into a quarter pipe and number four is to do a grind which is gonna be by far the hardest because it's not only a nollie on the move but involves coordination and a lot of kind of skateboarding skills to get by I should add that I have no idea what I'm doing on a skateboard right now I'm on my way to buy a skateboard I'm pretty excited for this one I'm hoping I don't get injured getting something that's gonna be easy to flip around so this is Ben who sold me my skateboard and he's a total legend because he also happened to become my coach for the month and it was super helpful so the first thing that I needed to do was buy the right skateboard and so Ben helped me choose the right deck the riot trucks the right wheels head bearings and then he pieced it all together so now I have my full use made skateboard and I'm ready to start my challenge if you want to see me do future challenges like stand-up comedy in a month or learn a language in a month hit that subscribe button and hit the bell to be notified for future updates alright let's get into it skateboarding challenge [Music] so my first goal for the month was to do an ollie which is a jump on a skateboard and a foundation for a lot of different tricks and moves on a skateboard so with a friend I started practicing so what I've learned about an ollie is the motion is popping your back foot with your toes and then jumping up and sliding up your front foot forward to level out that board and on day one I was having some trouble with popping a little bit too hard and slamming the board down a little bit too quickly the more I practice the better I got in terms of controlling the board in the air and leveling out the board actually in the air the next challenge was I try to do an ollie on the move and started doing some baby little Ollie's on the move it's definitely a different experience doing it on the move it's a little scarier and it's harder to kick the board stable as you're moving forward so then I had my first lesson with Ben my skateboarding teacher and he could do some pretty impressive tricks I'll let they speak for themselves [Applause] having a teacher was super useful and I started learning the proper technique and I started getting feedback as to what I was doing wrong whether if I wasn't using my tippy toe or I was leaning in the wrong position and that feedback is so important when learning something new so then I was on to Alling over my first object and so we picked a little piece of fun and started practice trying alling over it and although it seems like nothing was pretty scary and after a while I finally uh laid over my first object ever which was actually really exciting and epic thrill so now it's time to move on to bigger objects to try it all over so now one of my favorite objects Ollie over was this room which I practiced on all mine and you can see these are me starting to get it and then starting to clear it a little bit cleaner at this point my flat ground always were getting a lot cleaner and I could consistently level out the board and finally I started rolling over other objects like water bottles and at this point there were no problem [Music] so then I was on to the second part of my challenge which is trying to learn how to land a kickflip and it Clips quite tricky because not only are you ollie and popping up the board but then you're flicking out your front foot over the nose of the board to get that spinning motion and then you've got to get both feet back onto the board and it's really tricky so you can see although I started to get the spinning motion going I was finding it really hard to stay above the board and if I ever did start to land on the board it would be right at the back of the board some of the key things I learned was definitely now your ollie before going for your kickflip you really want to get that pop and front foot action really working for you before you go ready to tackle that kickflip I also learned that you want to be sliding right at the nose and right off at the right angle if you flick your front foot out too quickly then the board's gonna go in a different direction and it's not going to stay on your feet really one of the trickiest parts once you do start getting the motion down is to keep the board underneath your feet after hours and hours of practice finally this happened [Music] and it's a funny thing when you're building a new skill that sometimes just things click and so my next attempt went like this [Music] it was a real rush finally landing a kickflip and as the night went on I started getting them cleaner and clean up [Music] [Applause] [Music] so the next challenge was to drop into a quarter pipe and I had to change my environment so I went to a skate park and the first thing that I needed to do was getting comfortable picking up some speed and so I started going down these ramps to start getting used to having some speed on a skateboard so the next step was to practice dropping in on this ramp and the kids are dropping in is all about confidence so you want to push down on your front foot you want to lead with your front shoulder and actually drop in and put your weight down you can see I was getting my coach to help me so I could get comfortable with this but all of these times I wasn't committing and I was falling backwards and so you can see here I leaned back and totally stacked to drop it really isn't that hard but it's all in your head and it's one of those things that the more you do it the more comfortable you get actually going through that motion so going through it just time and time again and getting that repetition and it was really useful for me and finally I did the big ramp with no help and started to feel comfortable so the next progression was the quarter pipe and this was a lot tricky because he got a lot faster a lot quicker so the progression was starting by holding two hands with my coach and then holding one hand and then going no hand and letting my coat to catch me and finally just keep going through that motion so that the coach would go further them four other way and I could pick up more and more confident actually dropping in on that quarter pipe after building up my confidence and going through the motions I was able to successfully drop into the quarter pipe with no help you [Music] I knew from the start that grinding was going to be the toughest challenge for the month because there's just so many different skills that are at play you need to have the coordination of the board and your body and there's a jump and there's speed involved and so to get things started I started practicing by actually rolling onto a grind and so you can see in this attempt I successfully roll and pop off a grind the next stage was to actually ollie onto the grind and although it's a very little box it still takes a lot of coordination speed and then all hang high enough controlled enough to actually be able to ollie onto the object a lot of skateboarding is actually getting over the fear of falling and it's just something that's gonna happen when you skate it's about getting up and dealing with those knots when they happen but it would definitely shake me up every time these happened and sometimes even end my sessions so that brings me to day 13 my last day of the challenge and my last day to land a kind [Music] after so many super close attempts I had this big stack and that ended my session I was winded I was tired this is a three hour session that I'd had trying to now this grind I had had a really fun month and I was really proud of myself dealing with the falls and rolling with the punches skateboarding was super fun and on highly recommended for anyone interested in giving it a go so if you like what I'm doing and want to see future challenges please hit the subscribe button next month I'll be doing stand-up comedy in one month and I've already booked my gig which is pretty scary also check out some of my older videos like learning to juggle five balls a backflip or salsa dance in a month as always thanks for watching and happy learning
