hi everybody today on belaruari we are going to be making over this little secretary desk i'm going to zoom out just a little bit so you can see it i guess i got it back up so it's it's cute it's missing a few handles it is solid wood i do want to show you this part so i have to use a screwdriver to open it this is kind of cute let's get a little bit closer isn't that cute these open i don't know what this reminds me of but i just really like it we're going to be making this over today so stay tuned and we're going to get [Applause] started so i'm going to do something with you guys that i haven't done on any videos before but before we start i just want to say if you're not subscribed hit the subscribe button and then hit the bell and you'll get the videos before anybody else does you'll get a little notification that pops up i do try to do videos at least once a week i think i'm going to try to do something i'm almost at 10 000 subscribers and once i get there i think i'm going to try to put out more content maybe a quick tip a smaller one like um maybe like a home decor thing and then a piece of furniture i'm not really sure but we're gonna revamp the channel at 10 000 subscribers so hopefully i can give you guys more content but until then hit the subscribe button and then remember everything we use will be in the description below so we're going to be doing something today that i have not done with you guys i got a request the request was to go through my design process with you guys so i have no idea what i'm going to be doing with this piece honestly we're going to do it together i do know that i want to mix some colors so i think we'll go over how to mix some colors together or i'm gonna mix colors with you and it may turn out good it may not i don't know so we're gonna mix a custom color for this it's a smaller piece i envisioned that it would be you know a little like a statement piece or maybe something for an entryway that when someone walks in your house it's a pop of color obviously you guys know me you like color if you are here and you don't like color you are in the wrong place so i love color and i was thinking i wanted to do something bright pink okay so i'm either thinking in my head bright pink or a coral color for this i don't even know what we're gonna do with the knobs i've got two missing knobs we're gonna have to do new knobs i honestly i'm not sure what we're gonna do we could do stripes on this piece we could do a transfer on this piece we could do wax i don't know we're going to do this together but you know the first thing that we have to do is prep our piece it is a little bit shiny so it is solid wood and with solid wood i like to scuff sand first of all i like to use my dixie belt white lightning to clean it and that does act as a deglosser but when the piece is really shiny i also like to do a scuff sand after i clean because it just adds an extra insurance policy i guess is the way to way to think about it so i it is shiny like i said it's it's solid wood but it's got that factory shiny finish on it so we want to make sure that we degloss it and unjoin it as much as we can so the first step will be to remove all the hardware and to clean it and then scuff sand and then we'll come back and we'll really dig deep into what we want to do we want to mix colors do we want to i don't know we're going to figure it out together we're going to do this together we have not let you in my brain today it could get a little crazy so stay tuned because we are gonna get started i know we had the right intentions but somehow it came to an end [Music] [Music] remember the first time i met you between us [Music] foreign [Music] i get unstable [Music] i get unstable [Music] i'm almost finished cleaning this piece but before i finish cleaning it what i like to do i'm going to take the drawers out i like to clean the drawers assess if they need some big mama's butter or if they need sanding but here is a tip for you so i'm going to take this drawer out and even though this piece isn't antique it's probably not even vintage sometimes drawers don't go back the way that they came in and that's when that's because you have your drawers all mixed up so what i like to do is i like to on the very bottom i like to just number my drawer i stole my kids markers but i like to number the drawer and then i set this aside and you can put your other number right here so you know that the one drawer the one drawer goes into the one spot so that's what i like to do too i like to number my drawers and number the areas that way i know each drawer goes in i like to do that because when people are building furniture they don't always especially if it's hand built and even machines you know they're not perfect so sometimes it could be even just a millimeter off and maybe drawer number one would be a slightly bigger or smaller than drawer number two and so this way it's kind of like when you paint cabinets and you number your cabinets and you make sure that the cabinets go back where they came from whether it's because it shifted or maybe weather you know got hot and so it expanded or cold or whatever wood is expands and it gets when it's hot it expands when it's cold it shrinks and so it's not unreasonable to think that maybe drawer number one won't fit in the same place door number three is so it's just kind of help you that way if you've ever had problems with your drawers not going back in make sure you number them and then you know where they now go i'm looking back i can see all the [Music] means the signs had afforded just like a [Music] vibe we are done prepping this piece and cleaning it now i i'm actually gonna go work out and take a shower and i'll be back i'm going to kind of think in my head i think of inspiration so some of the inspiration that i look at is i think about clothes i know it sounds really crazy but a lot of clothes have really cool colors and designs on them i actually had an inspiration from a few videos ago actually i'll lock it up here and that was from a dress that i just was scrolling through facebook and i saw the stress i think was from like wish.com or something but anyways so i'm going to think about some of the colors that i like um i'm going to think about some of the things that i've seen outside maybe some of the nature that i've been around and i'm gonna try to pull some inspiration from that while i'm working out showering hopefully i'll have something for you when i come back if not you guys tell me if you have something for me you know because we're doing this together right right so we're back i worked out and took a shower i wanted to say something that really has nothing to do with this piece of furniture but it does have something to do with what we do so if you're an artist and let's say that you're working from home it's really hard to self-care it's it's you get so wrapped up in doing the furniture and taking care of the furniture and getting customs done or pumping out pieces and this is our art right this is something that's supposed to be our release but sometimes it's really hard to walk away and one thing that i have learned over the years is don't let your self-care take a back seat so i used to be really into fitness and running and i also am a living kidney donor and so i have to make sure that i stay healthy that my heart stays healthy for my one kidney that's left and that's something that i really need to make sure that i do take care of myself and self-care and so i just wanted to take a note and say that because i did pop out of this video and go work out took a shower and now i'm back so don't forget to take care of yourself when you are knee-deep in a project or doing this for a job so now that i've shared that with you i wanted to show you something so redesign of prima has these new decor paper or new decoupage papers and this is a coral color right like a salmony coral color and i was cleaning my paint room earlier i don't know yesterday or something like that i remembered i had these cute little knobs these cute little knobs i got them from amazon months ago and i haven't used them and so i thought let's try to put coral and blue together those go together right i mean we're about to find out but remember i said we're gonna mix color and so i came into this project intending to mix a color i just wasn't sure which one we're gonna do coral because like i said i wanted to do a bright pink color or a coral color and so that's what we're gonna do i'm gonna mix we're gonna mix a coral color all right so we have four colors this is how it's gonna go all right so it's two parts of a white we are going to use cotton for that one part of a bright yellow a lemony yellow we're gonna use daisy and then half a part of orange so we're going to use florida orange don't mind that and then half a part of a magenta so we're going to use peony because it's the brighter magenta and i have a mixing cup and it has all the measurements on here and so what i'm going to do maybe i think i'm going to go get a mixing cup or a measuring cup so we're gonna do i'm gonna use a measuring cup because i feel like that's probably the best way to do it if we did all right now that i have rambled on much more than i should have about the measurements we are going to before you ever mix any color you want to test it first so before you go in using a bunch of cups and all that other stuff and the things i was rambling about earlier and trying to figure it out in my head use tablespoons or teaspoons first so i have one tablespoon and then i have a half of a tablespoon so what we're gonna do is we're gonna put one tablespoon of cotton so you're gonna need two parts let's do this so i can put it on the thing so what you're gonna need for this is you're gonna need two parts of cotton so we're gonna do a tablespoon to test it you're going to need one part of the daisy one part of daisy so we're going to do a half a tablespoon of the daisy and then you're going to need half a part of the orange and the magenta so we're going to do a quarter tablespoon so i'm just going to fill this up halfway with orange and then halfway with magenta and we're going to mix that in so hopefully that makes sense sounds like rambling i know so let's mix up our paint so first we're going to do the cotton all right let's try this out we're going to do one tablespoon of the cotton and i have a tongue depressor right here so i'm just going to kind of clean that off we're going to pour that in try to scrape it out i'm gonna set this aside there's a piece of paper right there all right let's close up our cotton so we're gonna get in this angle so we can see it really work so we have two parts of yellow which would be one tablespoon of yellow or we have one part two parts of white which is one tablespoon of cotton and now we need one part of yellow so we're going to take half of what we did so it's going to be a half a tablespoon and we're going to go ahead and put that in there so we're going to do a half a tablespoon of daisy because it needs to be a bright yellow so bright white bright yellow depending on what paint line you're using these are dixie belt colors so it's cotton and daisy peony and florida orange if you're using a different paint line just make sure you're using a bright yellow a magenta bright orange and a bright white so i'm going to clean this really quick and then we'll add the other two colors okay so i've cleaned this up i'm actually going to just do fill a half here with the florida orange in half right here let's set this aside i'm gonna set fill it up half with the florida orange and then half with the peony peony however you say it because i need a half a tablespoon so we did half a tablespoon so now i need half parts so we did one tablespoon of cotton half a tablespoon of daisy and now we're going to do a quarter tablespoon of florida orange and quarter tablespoon of peony so i'm going to go ahead and just kind of pour that in there and it's literally probably a little glop okay now we're gonna do peony okay there we go so now we have those two colors now we're going to oops now we're going to drop them in here and let's hope for the best we're going to mix these up and see what we get so okay so my personal opinion is that it needs a little bit more of the peony so i'm actually going to just do a dab of it in there and let's see if that brightens it up just a little bit that's pretty so what i would do to adjust it remember we're doing this together i would do two parts of the white one part yellow a half a part of orange and one part of the peony so a tablespoon of i would do a tablespoon of cotton i would do a half a tablespoon of yellow half a tablespoon of peony and a quarter tablespoon of orange this is really pretty guys this is perfect let's look at it compared to those are going to look really nice together don't you think look that's going to look really pretty there we go it's a little bit see-through that's gonna look really pretty so that's what i would do final recipe is on the screen [Music] [Applause] [Music] i have two ideas for this one is to use redesign with prima's chalk paste so they have a chalk paste okay and this one is hubbard squash and it's kind of a warm peach like an off-white peach color and i have this stencil and this stencil is from finna bears collection who is a designer for prima marketing and it's kind of a lace look so i was thinking what if i set this on here and use the hovered squash and use a spread you know just a um a plastic spatula and spread it on there because this is super super thick so it's almost it's like a paste it's not it's not a it's a chalk paste but it's not a paint so look it so you see how thick that is it's a really pretty color so i'm thinking that it'll look really nice and it's permanent as well so that was one of my ideas i had another idea to i have a little bit left of this color i was thinking maybe i should add just a little bit more peony so let's keep some of this color together and pour some in a different uh pour some in a different tupperware container or pour some in a different mixing bowl add a little bit more peony and then blend at the bottom with that color up into this color just to add a little bit more character so i wish you guys were here with me so you can tell me what you think and you're probably behind the screen going no don't do that yes do that i think it would fit my personality and my style more if i added another color and i blended this because one color styles are not really my thing i do do them but if i have to choose and i have creative freedom i use more than one color so i don't think although this is a beautiful color you guys see this seriously my favorite i hope you guys use this so it really is a really beautiful color but i think we could create another color using this color by just adding a little bit more pink and i think it would look really good if we just if we just went from the bottom and kind of went up just a little bit just to add that character i think we're gonna do that we're gonna do it let's do it we're gonna add a little bit of the peony in here just a little at a time guys so it's better to start with a little and then work our way up so let's put this right here it kind of looks it looks darker that one looks darker than this one probably because there's so much in it but anyways we're going to mix this bad boy up and see what we can get i would like to stick with a coral color but just slightly different just to give it a little bit of a different shade so that when we do blend it's kind of subtle but you can tell does that even make sense i don't even know if that makes sense all right so there was a little bit let's look you got the different colors so you can see this one's more pink than this one let's just add a tiny bit more okay i think that's going to be winner winner chicken dinner oops winner winner chicken dinner okay let's mix this so i guess really if you wanted more of a pink coral color you could add some more peony to it if that was your goal in the first place if you didn't want the coral color that we made this is more of a salmon almost so we're making salmon now okay all right so those two colors are different all right so this one is gonna go on the bottom of here and we are going to blend these we are down at the bottom i don't want to call this an ombre this is not an ombre this is almost like a baillage isn't that bail isn't balage when you have like just one color going into another color all my hairdressers correct me if i'm wrong i'm pretty sure so i've got a brush for the color that i'm already using i've got a brush for the new color that we had i've got a clean dry neutral brush paper towel and my mister bottle now this already has the coats it needs so we're going to blend a color into this color the first thing that i'm going to do is i'm actually going to lay down a base coat of this pink almost salmon color that we made let's look at the difference so it's not too different okay there is a slight difference but not enough to where it's i mean it's probably going to be kind of dramatic but i don't know we'll see i wanted to do something subtle first so i do like i would like to kind of push it maybe up to here okay like maybe the middle of this drawer so we'll go up to the middle of this drawer right here and i'm going to do a base coat of this color first before we do any blending so that's what the first step is is to do a base coat of this color kind of up to about here i'm going to do it on the front and i'm going to do it on the sides i had one more idea what if i put a little bit of peony down on the very bottom i think i'm gonna do it sorry if you're screaming at me from your house i'm gonna do it [Music] all right so we added some peony i think it's going to look good so what we're going to do first is i am going to go ahead and put a little bit more peony down here because we want to make sure that our paint is wet so i'm going to add a little bit more what i like about this is when i go like this it kind of pulls this color and i'm not going to mess with that it's almost like i'm wet distressing without having to actually wet distress who knows i might want to stress this not sure so you want wet paint on your peony first so i'm just kind of wetting it and hopefully we're at a good angle here so you guys can see going to go ahead and dab make sure it's all wet all right now we want to take the color that we made earlier and we want to wet that also at that transition line so we're just going to wet it right here we don't need to go all the way up we're just going to wet it right at that transition line where the peony is so we probably have to go up right here just because let's see let's back up we'll have to go up right here just because i kind of went up at an angle on this i don't know i just thought it was going to look cute like that so let's back up a little bit we've got our wet paint right here i'm gonna go up now what i'm gonna do is i'm going to miss the peony and the transition line with the other color now i'm going to just put a tiny tiny bit of peony on my brush you can't even really see it and i'm going to start down at the bottom and i'm going to do some circles okay i'm just going to first start with my circles these colors obviously are very similar they're actually made with each other so we're going to do some circles you can kind of go up what i like about blending is you can pull this up up to here to add more peony just to add more character some shading if you guys have followed any of my other videos you know that i like to pull my colors up sometimes so we're going to do some circles make sure that you keep this misted i'm gonna add just a little tiny tiny bit more peony start from here kind of work my way up do some circle circles go up here do some circles okay so here's our color that we made i'm going to just put a little bit i'm going to start at the bottom and kind of circle it down over top of that peony where we circled before don't worry about it being perfect right now what's going to smooth this out will be our neutral brush so we're going to mist it start up here kind of go down a little bit go like this okay now i'm going to take my clean dry neutral brush and i'm going to mist this don't get too much you don't want it dripping but just enough so i'm going to go ahead and start going horizontal first just to kind of get it going and then see i missed it you can go in circles if you want you can go vertical if you'd like you can go vertical right here vertical you can go diagonal and this is helping to blend these two colors into each other so i'm going to do that over here and do my circles circles right here go vertical go horizontal okay over here do some circles go vertical horizontal diagonal you can take my neutral brush and kind of go up and around okay and that is looking pretty good that is looking blended let's back up i'm gonna back up a little bit and look at that so that looks really nice so we're gonna move on to the next color the next part will be the salmon color that we mixed and the coral color we mixed so we want to make sure that the salmon like color is wet okay let's go over to here also okay now we're going to use the coral color and we're going to wet this and go from up here kind of go down okay so now what we're going to do is we're going to take the little salmon color that we mix we're going to put just a teeny tiny bit on the paint brush we're going to mist this i'm going to start down here and i'm just going to do circles okay we're going to miss that kind of do some circles some circles up to there i'm going all the way out of view okay now i'm going to take the coral color that we made we're going to mist it start up here and just kind of do some circles all right now we have our neutral brush and we're going to take our neutral brush and i'm going to mist it i'm going to start going horizontal look that way do some horizontal we can go vertical you can take your brush and go like this do some circles with those two now just kind of work it like this and voila it's blended back to the chalk paste idea now that we have blended so we've got redesign with primo's chalk paste in hubbard squash and i showed you before it's pretty thick so it's very thick it's not it's not something that you would paint with i guess is what i'm trying to say so i'm going to set this aside and i have my stencil and i'm going to go ahead and i'm going to line this up so here is the edge of this part and then i'm going to line this up with the edge the bottom and i'm going to just spread it and i'm going to spread it and hope i'm hoping that it'll look almost like distressed stencil so let's see we've got our chalk paste so what i'm going to do actually let's let's take this i'm going to go ahead and tape this on here that way i don't have to hold the stencil so i'm going to go ahead and i'm going to tape it right here because that's even if i taped it right there it would pop this up so we're going to tape it right there and i'll probably go ahead and take this lip right here hold that down and just kind of tape it so that it doesn't nah believe it that's messing with it okay i'm going to take my chalk paste and i'm going to dip my this is actually a mud spatula by dixie bell and i'm going to go ahead not have too too much i'm going to do this and i'm going to start from here and i'm going to take it and just kind of drag this along and you can scrape it off if you don't want it to be super 3d i'm gonna drag it drag it fill in these areas now if you didn't have so i have where it ends right here and so the paint is not going to go down there but if you didn't have that then you could tape off the area so that way you don't get the chalk paste on the other areas so we're just kind of pushing that chalk base into there [Applause] okay i'm gonna get down lower i'm gonna start right here and kind of push my way down [Music] you could tape that off too i didn't tape it off i'm being brave right now start right there and kind of just push it i don't want a ton of paint to stay on here it is going to be slightly 3d like a raised stencil but i don't want it super raised so i'm actually going to scrape off sorry stop scraping first i'm going to scrape off all the excess first then i'm going to pull it up so fingers crossed pull that tape gently i'm going to go ahead and pull it up and voila i think that looks really nice don't you so i'll probably wipe this off with a paper towel before i relay it down on the other areas but that's what i'm gonna do if you have some so like i got some right here take your paper towel take a wet paper towel or baby wipe and wipe that off around the edges and then you'll have nice clean lines we head for the sky it's all right our wings wouldn't fly it's all right if we are crashing down again [Music] i need to redo my hair on pink and then we're pretty much done i'll probably put some decor wax in the corners and things like that i might distress it not totally sure but that's it guys this piece is pretty much done [Music] people [Music] no you don't mind the way [Music] um [Music] i wish but now it's so hard to breathe
