other example sentences so that you can master those expressions [Music] you will meet a young man named Michael I went to an exciting event in downtown Los Angeles every year the Los Angeles Times newspaper announces the 101 best restaurants of Los Angeles in Los Angeles there are almost 8,000 different restaurants and in this magazine they have the 101 best restaurants according to the Los Angeles Times many of those restaurants came to the event and they had samples of their food I decided to ask questions to some of those restaurant owners and chefs and I filmed our conversations some of those restaurants were fancy elegant expensive restaurants but many of them were casual neighborhood restaurants that serve very good food I filmed a lot of different conversations but it was very noisy inside because there was a DJ playing music so we decided for the first interview that we would go outside and by the way if you like these types of videos where I'm talking to native speakers of Los Angeles and I'm teaching you the expressions please subscribe to my channel I'm planning to post more videos and I want to make sure that you know when they're released the first person you will meet is Michael he is actually my videographer he was filming the interviews at the event he will tell you about his experience at the event I'm about to interview my friend and my videographer tell me about your experience tonight so we're here at the LA Times list of 101 best restaurants in LA they are debuting their new list tonight and they have a sampling of restaurants here some of which are the best that I've tried in a very very long time the first word that Michael used that may be difficult for you is the word debut and he said debuting they are debuting their new list tonight they are debuting their new list tonight that's a difficult word because the T is silent it's actually a French word so we kind of keep the French pronunciation we don't pronounce that final T we say debut listen to the way Michael used it with an ing ending debuting they are debuting their new list tonight to debut means to introduce something to the public for the first time it's the first public appearance debut you can use it as a noun or as a verb the director will attend the debut of his film the director will attend the debut of his film they will be debuting the new car model at the car show they will be debuting the new car model at the car show the next expression Michael used is out of this world Nobu is known for their sushi but there's this one restaurant here called Kato that had a sushi that I've never tried before and it was absolutely out of this world Nobu is known for their sushi but there's this one restaurant here called Kato that had a sushi that I've never tried before and it was absolutely out of this world he said it was absolutely out of this world and it was absolutely out of this world and it was absolutely out of this world it was absolutely out of this world and out of this world means amazing fantastic the food at that new restaurant is out of this world the food at that new restaurant is out of this world the next expression Michael used is to check out to check something out I think that's like my new favorite I got to go check them out for sure I think that I like my new favorite I got to go check them out for sure he said I gotta go check them out for sure I got to go check them out for sure I got to go check them out for sure to check something out means to look at something that you're interested in to investigate it to examine something further to check it out let's go check out the new restaurant that everyone's talking about let's go check out the new restaurant that everyone's talking about thanks for telling me about it I'll definitely have to check it out thanks for telling me about it I'll definitely have to check it out the next expression that he used is I got to try so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before and that was amazing cuz I'm like kind of a beer snob so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before and that was amazing cuz I'm like kind of a beer snob and the present tense is to get to to get to do something if you say I got to do something it means I had an opportunity to do something I had the chance to do something and usually it's something really good he said I got to try some local brews that I've never tried before so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before I got to try some local brews that I've never tried before that means I had the opportunity to try them and I was happy I did I love my job because I get to meet a lot of interesting people I love my job because I get to meet a lot of interesting people and let's use it in the past tense when they visited Egypt they got to ride a camel when they visited Egypt they got to ride a camel we went to the mountains but we didn't get to ski because the snow had already melted we went to the mountains but we didn't get to ski because the snow had already melted and by the way don't confuse I've got to with I got to I've got to is I have got to and that means I must I have to but I got to means I had the opportunity to do it Michael said that he got to try some local brews so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before so I got to try some new local brews that I never tried before and local brews means regional beer the beer that is produced in Los Angeles or around the Los Angeles area it's local the verb to brew is the process used for making beer and people often use it as a noun and they say I like those brews I like the brews of that region and a place where they make beer is called brewery brewery he has a job working at the brewery he has a job working at the brewery and Michael used the expression beer snob he says that he's a bit of a beer snob and that was amazing cuz I'm like kind of a beer snob and that was amazing cuz I'm like kind of a beer snob and the word snob generally has a negative meaning if someone is a snob they think they're better than other people they feel they're more special than other people they're a snob but if you use the expression this way beer snob or chocolate snob or wine snob that has a different meaning that means that you really like something and you know a lot about it and you like to have the best quality of that specific thing so you can be a beer snob you can be a chocolate snob you can be a music snob or wine snob and Michael recognizes good beer when he tastes it so he said that he's a beer snob and that was amazing cuz I'm like kind of a beer snob she only buys high-quality imported chocolates because she's a chocolate snob she only buys high-quality imported chocolates because she's a chocolate snob what kind of snob are you the next expression that Mikael used is to stick with nice to try this nice like Belgium style quadruple ale it just had like a really nice like kind of fruity but like dark and mellow taste it was yeah that's gonna stick with me for a while nice to try this nice like Belgium style quadruple ale just had like a really nice like kind of fruity but like dark and mellow taste it was yeah that's gonna stick with me for a while he said that's going to stick with me for awhile that's gonna stick with me for awhile that's gonna stick with me for a while to stick with me means to stay with me to continue to remain we decided to stick with our original plans we decided to stick with our original plans those words will stick with me for a long time those words will stick with me for a long time they will not be easy to forget you know the meaning of the word seen right but listen to the way that I use the word seen in a question that I asked Michael what do you think of the LA food scene in general what do you think of the LA food scene in general I asked him what do you think of the LA food scene in general the LA food scene when you use the word scene this way it means something that's happening in the community in the city in the area for example we can talk about the music scene of a city or the art scene I love the current food scene in LA I love the current food scene in LA he's part of the music scene in Austin Texas he's part of the music scene in Austin Texas to be part of the music scene means to be a musician in that city listen to the way that Michael used the words background and upbringing what do you think of the LA food scene in general I think the LA food scene is very diverse I think any culture that you could possibly think of you will find their food here in LA and not just one restaurant you will find a pocket of that culture here in LA and that's what makes it so diverse and so you need and then there's so many fusion styles to where people will take something from their background something from their upbringing infuse it with something else from their life for something unique to LA and you get to such a unique cultural mishmash here in LA that you don't see anywhere else your background is your past your history where people will take something from their background something from their upbringing where people will take something from their background something from their upbringing tell me about your professional background tell me about your professional background I have a background in sales I have a background in sales you could talk about your professional background your work history but your background can also be your childhood or where you're originally from and your upbringing is the way your parents raised you how you grew up and how that influenced you where people will take something from their background something from their upbringing where people will take something from their background something from their upbringing he
