they open welcome to last cast today we're gonna look at arms and other specialist angling subjects which is fight jinx we've brought Andy back to to give us some advice on these and I think we're going to spend a little bit of time talking about what the what the benefits are how to use them and I'm basically out Samir corn which you'll be good it's a little bit specialized I know you're going to be talking about first of all the materials that you need Samir corn applesauce the material so where to get them from and then take your soup step by step just argued make one and really it take gather the bank side so without further ado will they're willing to do something to you bill yeah right um they're amazing again I mean we've talked a couple of times on the bank side and I'm sure some of the viewers of well they'll probably know your face now but we've talked before about some of those amazing bylaws that you you can to put together and we've talked in detail about those but these these last time we got together these back jigs real they've caught me I they're just such an unusual thing and I've never seen anybody fishing we won but I know you really like fishing with these and I've never even seen one for sale so it'd be good to show us basic layout to make one yeah obviously if you can maybe start back telling there's some weird and wonderful mix of material in front of us I'd like to know what where do you even start looking for things like this someday well they're all materials that people use for tiny flies right Pike fly fishing is quite popular a lot of people are doing it now but you need specialist tackle you need a lot of space as well because when you've got thirty for all I know you know it can't be up against a hedge or a tree yeah so what these are these are basically flies but they've got added weight so you can cast them on like spinning set up right I cast mine on a six-foot rod which has got a casting weight of between 3 and 18 grams these weigh in about 7 grams when dry custom easily right he was thirty pound bread yeah and forty pound dress right and that's sufficient for Tim in most Bank you come across yeah for sure for sure is so I'm just thinking about you set up really obviously you've got a fight you get the end and then you got this fight bound why your tryst what size is that the usual sort of 20 inch tag no nice about 18 inch y-axis and that's obviously been connected to you've read we've talked about your rod was it using the same sort of real tactics like a little multiplier on his inner no she's a little fix but all right because that's the things I've always seen you using a more than you know your real right and you write about the spirits and a lot of pike they do like to sort of congregate around snaggy areas but this technique is going to make that a little bit difficult but you just saw pitch yaw which is Evangeline against some of the some of the you know the HMDA graph if you like a sort of ethical situations that you've got to find yourself in using these yeah can you just take you through the steps in on the overhead way stuff thanks for information on their on sourcing and it feels I guess they're all available on any sort of fly fishing side web I mean these are specifically and really for pike flies just because of the size of the right and the length of the fiber and it's also it's a synthetic fiber so it doesn't hold water right and they're just a lot easier to use I get mine from Pike Trek which if you search on the internet he's got lots of different fibers lots of different eyes yeah that sort of thing does some packs where you can buy them in bulk and it's almost stuff days out for a while and it'll do you a lot cheap you can get ten packs of these for a tenner alright so if you just wanted to get into it I don't want that splash out I mean these normally self about two pound fifty that stuff's nearly pocket blend in there too time flies by millions it cannot be really that's it but that seven pack sounds like he's the good real star kid a bit of everything in I'm sure with you tutorial a bit later on people be pretty eager to get going so no formulating their own flying railway so yeah well we'll let you get started look like you've got quite a big up there unlit to seek out with yes I'll just a bit manikin right there we go no I did this one to try look like a chill it's a lot of the rivers off-the-shelf juban right and this has proved deadly it's accounted for a lot of Pike up to around the sixteen pound mark down to little Jack's and some days I've taken it and this is all the tech the one tech spinners the won't take plugs as you call them the one tech soft rubber base I took anything but obviously you've got a lot of lovely colors in there that don't look as attractive who maybe as some of these in the box but I think the key to in the clue is in you try to emulate some of the fish that year on the waters are you fishing so you've tried to sort of get this to throw me lecture but maybe that's why you have that much successful you don't would that be fair this be fair to say but on the other hand I've taken it some days and not a touch owner wanting things like the green is just something I'm going to start off with a whole kit set it's a size six or so it's a big hook yeah but in why does it need to be that big um because that's always got me thinking etz big book so you hope right so Hawking poly you've got a lot of fluff there yeah and you want a strong hook cold yeah and it's only a thin hook so it normally gets them in the in the scissors or in the lower jaw to keep hold yeah right looks a strong walk it is it's say the virus big mouth extra I think they used for bus 7-pound for 30 so we put there cooking the Vice yeah where would I buy this buy some because it looks I've seen fly again I've seen fly anglers with somewhat similar and there's a lot of different types of these these devices around would I be right in saying that is like maybe again similar from a fly-fishing shop yeah I can't remember where I got this one from but it's it's a bit of a taffy want to be honest yeah I'm liking cloth spec she won't be after when she sees you've got laws on that I don't think wash you know she took her own hair clips days all right you don't need I mean this one would about fifty pounds you don't need to spend that much you can get off of ebay yeah and they're just as good yeah maybe not as robust yeah again for a beginning and Odyssey layout and you're on your way out yeah I'm gonna start with that one I'm gonna start with this it's just a bobbin and the thread I'm using it's a monofilament thread it it's basically invisible mending thread right and that you'd buy for teching pumps or stuff like yeah can I ask you another question because I've not seen any of this before but their little gadget that's holding there Bobby yeah does that come with their with the fly by so as a separate I mean you could probably buy a kit for about 15 pounds of these I got my first kit for 15 all right is he going along if you're enjoying it and you catch you you can obviously you just said about what gradient equipment that's right billion right so our star of this star by whipping some thread onto your hook to get a base to tie your fibers to know I'm gonna set this thread all the way back so that can I'll show you why in a minute normally I just tie it up to about there yeah so basically you started from the I end in your wits and they all shank if you like yeah yeah so get rid of that down now I've got some it's fly makers varnish and we don't have to buy fly America's varnish I just don't it's a bit cheap you can use clear nail varnish yeah if you've got none of this and all this does is it glows it and it makes they thread a bit more tooth proof right gives it a bit of stability yeah use this now some of you may in a second basically it's just like a chenille it's a piece of string basically with lots of little bits of flush oh yeah yeah I'm just bring now to about the halfway of the shank again yeah but halfway aware of come on wrap this round know this is going to be under the fiber and you won't really see it but when it's in the water the fish will see it yeah and it acts as a strike point so the fish sees the red which it or perceive as either an injury or maybe the cover the fish like when the breeding fish collar up they get really bright to attract mates yeah this is just an extra an extra point on it spell until pounds of puck is this and you don't use a lot and it's like you said earlier just these little tweets can just have the edge you make the edge on the deck out that they come dumbbell now basically a slow little way in the shape of the dumbbell it's made out songster and chrome-plated right and just dance the way today fly so you can cast it so move the thread back up to about there maybe four or five mil behind the eye yeah and just go around too fast if you can say ball back round again yeah all the way yeah so you can dilash it on there with a cross technique and pencil ease and the dumb perfectly silly for scene of check its right and then it's just a matter of going around a few turns with a figure of eight yeah just to make sure it's secure and then what I always do is go around just like that yeah just tighten the thread Yeah right we can go back down silver they will put a bit longer on the show yeah I can smell it cure in sick probably under sex notes I wanted to go off I suspect that you know I don't take them to go on yeah right next next caller we're gonna use some of this which is it's a gold color right don't need a lot less is more they always say with this right so I forget see how much you've got there yeah cuts it off and just get the ends and tease them out so it's a tapered you don't want it flat like it cuts off right great then look and we'll check it so we've got you see there I was two different lengths yeah the shorter length which I on the first this will get help give the shape of a the fly I'm slightly we've got a few more times yeah then bring this one Shh and give you the full length of the fly sighs yeah about seven eight inches long yeah and I can see what you've done there is clear in a cantar the fiber all the way down from the back to the front yeah that's it and then we spread it round the hook not all the way around just tie it on Wow no shouldn't need to add any more varnish at this stage because it will still be drying I can sake not throw just check another bit of this do the serve again just easy ow yep measure up against it you want about the same length as the last one so spread that around the whole bring in the thread slightly whoops slightly forward this time so come in a bit nearer they don't mind off the whole yeah then you've got your tip you got your pace so what I normally do at this stage you split it so put it down on the sides just to give a bit of body yep it on again just get rid of all these little bits tidy up all better right we're finished with that we'll know so you know you don't need a lot like these pucks is it automatic oh I can see that's being popular when it's in your house right when I deal with the belly now this one's another pinefibre pike fiber and this one's pearl so it's not quite white it's more than off why yeah and we're gonna do the belly so tick should be enough there I go tease it out I want to fold this one exactly in half so guys I'm just turn there the flyover yeah so this is for the belly so we've got it in half so this on the underside yeah and again we just whipping up by the dumbbell in the eye again yeah well we're not top window this space goes down this side of the hook yeah get the other pace yeah I'm good on the other side of the hook back up you can see there so start another brush as well all right so the way I was starting to get a feel what struggles tidy them off from on the boy he's just given to sweep my bladder and we're starting at the bit fishy profile there you can see in a minute now we're gonna put some flashing just to give it a bit of a spark of just to replicate skills i i've used a squirrel I don't do a course as well themselves and it's just basically it's all the fire button now you don't need a lot of this you only need a tiny amount maybe maybe 10 strands if yeah so this was tease it out so it's all different when and it doesn't stick together a little no better in the water as well right so I want to get that in half again no I'll tie this sock down the lateral line in between the gold and the pearl what will you say to real beginners when I'm new with this because it's a bit like the innovation game I don't think I could just click straight over and i'ma go on making one what were you like when you first it's all practice practice you have to put fiber in you can if I took that fly now as it is that catch fish right right it's just adding that little bit of extra yeah they say if you don't learn my tackle shop and you're looking at nice laws and nice tackle the majority of the market made to catch fish that meant to catch fishermen and I say you know so there we are we've got us flushing yeah smooth and again you split and right now a bit more on the back we're gonna use this which is a dark brown just to make it darker on the back a lighter on the belly and on the back right yeah so we'll get about the serum again as we use before I did bit worse actually our fairly robust and these big fire surprise when you get them back after catching a fish they're like a right mess all over the place Oh Decker a carbonyl brush along give them a comb and a brush and they come up yeah that one no that's probably about five or six fish yeah so you know this one maybe not quite the full length of the fly itself and just roll it around the hook so it it's you know sort of across the back so it's not straight down the middle but it's covered in yeah the back then you next one bring that up I'm straight down the middle well it goes extra extra extra better definition yeah yeah turn it over again and we'll do a little bit more of the pearl but not as much this time only only a small small amount yeah just to ship it really so so I think I think today under you can't give in y'all your views on on what you think the ideal fight fight genius buffing knees down a preference against a star a star preference step jump flies for instance how many different sharp flies is the different people of the wrong parts and art yeah the odd catch fish some people think there is a better not necessary not really they all catch fish they all work yeah put those away right now the next corner of meals is a very pink of something this way and this is just to give the ballet a bit of a tinge of pink yeah use very little in fact for this goes as known as you come to the center just kept you on cups cups right this woman he likes a mixture of voix and the dark brown just four down the back laughs you know it's on a lot of fish there on the rarely dark dorsal down the back of the fish yeah so this Williams in hardly in there maybe a dozen a dozen strands if that John sensor yeah and that they just followed that straight back down the center as well there you go what we do with this one is another little bit more flush like on that one just to give it that extra little bit of obstruction and this is the one I'm gonna nose it's called natural scales and can you see it's textured so it really shimmers and good oh yeah others in the line I'm gonna use just two pieces of this so I've got me two pieces half them again and just tie these in just along the lateral line yeah they just gives it up well extra something yeah I can see that it's not wanting to play there we go so do it on this side so these are on the other side I should tilt a bit so I can see we've got that on no would you sneak to whip it off make it nice and Nate come by whip finishes to do this but I just are doing it mounds on such big big flies yeah just do it again so again you're using there is the dumbbells as a little anchor behind the loops and it's done now just doesn't finishing talks just to tidy up and maybe add just a little bit of extra I've got some bright orange-red thread here this is a pike thread it's fine orange big fly fish from thread and I'll just tidy up and just cover up all that clear that out whipping yeah do you get many comments cough backside walkers or backside anglers when you're using these again I said earlier it's such an unusual technique demand you get many people asking you what you use you know look it's going mommy's car a fish yeah there we go now it's just a matter of give it a good coat of varnish just to protect it yeah so I'm just buying it all together just cloudy waters well it'll soak in and bind it all together this always do this blends the fibers together yeah and yeah just pull it back yeah is that the finished article I don't know what we're gonna do now is we're gonna put some eyes on it hey that catch fish yeah look thought just to make it look that little bit more fish like yeah we're gonna put some eyes and some gills on it all right now the girls is just the sequins the big sequins shell sequins and get them from sequin shops anywhere that sells sewing supplies yeah yeah these are the pearl ones so they have a bit of a shimmer yeah and the eyes these are use to fly fishing are they what people put on those my expensive pen sage can we stick about just stick it onto the fish use it I'm sorry on that fly using that yeah yeah as you know I'm the on this show we talk about pike pike preservation and what you do is obviously any of these bits of plastic falling off here off um jig when you're not many fishes I guess they'll be aware making a bit more secure I'll be nice yes stick these on I use a two-part epoxy oh yeah dries quickly so this epoxy said dry and they usually take just a little just a little blob of each yeah when you get to the end of the tube you never love the sermon I don't know I start before cocktail stick just mix it yeah sois nice and he's not so active it really stands up to that yeah I've got flying on the back of this we put half of it yeah she want it to soak into the fibers I've got a few fibers in that we need to soak it the fibers and really really stick yeah that's not coming off easy I'm the horse at sound and so this one we pull there yeah now when you're putting these on always put the bottom of the the Gill the sequin if you like level with the shank of the hook yeah so it doesn't know all the gear for the hawk so you still got all that hook there oh yeah I see what he's saying yeah yeah yeah yeah next one the steerer pops a lot remember make sure you get some on the eye as well now if you don't not to come off and that goes on the opposite side yeah just squeeze it in and his that keeps drying just keep going back to it just give me a good squeeze just to make sure it's on cuz it'll it'll starting over where the fiber I'll push it out right and also what you can do is when this is on you can see how that flash is coming down from the center of the Gill yeah just check on the other side you got set say a few final adjustments watch the distance going on can also push you up and he'll help hold the fiber up to give it more blood all right and we just need to let that dry now right from then we can go on to the UV adhesive all right okay yeah yeah that's nearly laughing device yeah squeeze how long would that take then under to start going up would you say ten minutes fiber tomorrow at seven minutes she'll be totally drive the now for no upright and properly cured overnight and I know you could be fishing with up tomorrow right good right underneath it's been about seven minutes and there and I think we've that epoxies finally cured and we've got the gills on we've got the eyes on I think we're just about to finish out with this yes this jig fly yeah yeah we're going to give it a carton off it's a UV cured acrylic glue which will make it the head nice and shiny and it also protect it I've got a UV light oh yeah right I can't get torches little there's as things like that I use one of those because it's easier right you can plug it in you need after buy batteries just explain why why we need to use any UV glue on any UV lighting for the Sun because to me that looks like it's ready to go fish it's just to protect it just to make sure that the bit stop come off right Ernie it just makes it look nicer right right so we've got our UV glue yeah yep I want the first off to do is we've got a gap between the eye so I want to fill that end so we'll get some glue just brush it on fill up that little gap between the eyes now they just put it under under the UV light for a few seconds just to harden make sure you keep this away from UV light or they'll go hard in the ball I say right I get it now no you can see it oh yes gone hard yeah yeah I'm just a matter of just keep filling no till you get it flush yeah go over all that all the thread yeah I just helps protect that as well yeah back under the light for a little bit now the top bit that small s dot underneath should fill fill it all again we could do this using epoxy resin but you just have to keep rotating it so it doesn't sag yeah drip yeah and I guess using the UV glue and the UVs quick as well as you stand of being at your project for 20-25 minutes you don't wanna be waiting much longer for a lot of flight tires who use epoxies the other wheel which is a lot more on it and they just put it on the little wheel with these terms yeah overnight or however long yeah yeah it takes to cure I'm just on the front of it just to cover up all that thread so just to recap learn and adjust for beginners you'd probably you'd need to start with it with a bit of equipment you're gonna need a hook sire you going to need some Hawks you're going to need all the little knickknacks up now you're sure does early the dumbbells and you know the different types of glue that you've got and obviously the materials fly fly materials bit of nylon you know some of the fancy stranding materials and I need on you air so how many flies with all the bugs that you're sure there's army flags but you probably get probably 10 15 maybe out with maybe mom or more it's so in essence is good value for money yeah unleash a hobby and it allows you also a custom ensuite you know fit fit for different scenarios and situations so Ollie knowledge certainly worth the invest in a little bit and basically just getting yourself started really yeah not so difficult and I reckon I could probably probably make well it won't be as as nice as yours to start with but certainly other golf wear with the with the instructions that you'd give them out certainly have no other gods of keep sucking me time and making a couple last for sure it's like anything is practice yeah yeah it's practice you first won't I'll probably you'll think it a lot Ruby yeah yeah so what I'm doing now which I've done with that one is I'm just cutting the eyes in this right acrylic just just for that added protection from the points spiky teeth yeah so what again what you do when you told them you got a glue back but you just saw bonding all that together yeah yeah nothing Keeley proof really just making sure nothing falls off it through its its life time if you like so I want you to be expecting a pair for a UV light that um day they quit off number it's neither in there then is there a little bit yeah billion so see and obviously there's the the fulfillment and enjoyment if you're catching fish on shore or something that you've made you know and worse than that if you're going out with a group of people and there's all your Yahya jig fly catching he sent me to real achievement and a real good sense of achievement hum day it says it they always fish on something you've caught yourself verse three on something you've bought yeah so that's that's finished what I would tend to do now is just leave it under the lungs from every twenty minutes yeah just uh fully cure it just to make sure it's cured yeah but that's ready to go catch fish now so and we'll keep a track on that one as the shields go on under Oh we'll see if we're kicking what our songs nice one a little present for us cast billion go catch some fish yeah I've got to buy a new rod yeah well somebody's the cameraman is actually dominated a little a little six-foot spinning rod and a multiplier and I think the next time we get together and the obvious issue with you come here be sure what the show was a few lot techniques and all of that this will be the right environment for where we're fishing but if it is I'll give this a go and I'll certainly like to try and catch a pike on this before the season finishes really nice fabulous exam ok thanks for your time today I'm sure I've learnt all this from it as I always do I'm sure some of the view was a little big picking some gray store coffee with all your experience if we've got if anyone's got any questions or queries that can pour something maybe below the video and I'm yeah and I won't mind of just asking for your advice things got any queries are questions I'm sure there'll be a few of them yeah yeah ok I think we'll call that idea then right nice well thanks very much said on bit and we'll catch you next time on last cast you
