hey everybody it's time for a would you rather video in that video series today we're going to be talking about the kawasaki kx 250x versus the yamaha yz250fx i've had a lot of people ask me which one of these bikes i would rather own because i had the yamaha last year and i have the kawasaki this year yamaha was a 2020 version this is the 2021 version both bikes are actually really really amazing and i put both of them in my top 10 list bikes of all time so i'm gonna split some hairs here and it as i go to the end of this thing and kind of announce a winner of which one i'd rather own just know that we are splitting hairs and both of these bikes are amazing and they're both in my top 10. i want to highlight five areas where we're going to compare the two bikes first is motors then we'll go to suspension then chassis then transmission and then i want to talk about the air boxes on both bikes hey super quick if you want to get entered to win this bike i'm actually giving it away if you go to my website dirtbikechannel.com before june 30th of this year you can enter to win this bike and my ktm 125xc and my ktm 1290 super adventure s no purchase is necessary the details are on my website the link is in the description go over there click that thing and get entered to win this bike okay let's talk motors both the kx and the yz2 for the fx have amazing motors they pull so hard they're very peppy and actually they remind me a lot of one another they're just freaking amazing motors and most the time i ride them i'm like why would you ever want a bigger motor than this this thing is light playful snappy and all that stuff so both of them are awesome however i would give the slight edge to the yamaha and that's because of how tunable it is see with yamaha they actually give you a power tuner app where you can connect connect your phone to the ecu on the bike and you can change maps and you can change a lot of stuff with that bike on kawasaki they give you these little these little clip in modules they give you three different three different modules over here you get a black module a green module and a white module and i've switched them out and backwards and left and right and i honestly don't even know which one i like sometimes i felt like i knew what they were doing a lot of times i didn't feel like i knew what they were doing and so i've just kind of left with one of the modules in for most of my testing because i can't really tell what's happening on the yamaha i could always tell what was happening with that engine mapping on the app super slick and so i give the edge on the motor over to the yamaha next up let's talk suspension now i almost feel like the yamaha and the kawasaki boys were doing a little bit of like looking at the other person for what to do here because they both went with a kyb fork and actually they remind me a lot of one another similar to the motors how the motors reminded me a lot of one another the suspension reminds me at quite a bit from one bike to the next both kyb both valved really quite versatile i do both of them are valve for a little bit more for going fast this isn't like a slow uh hard or soft enduro style valving but neither was the yamaha i almost feel like this one is a little bit plusher than the yamaha but i'm not 100 sure on that i just know that both of the front forks gave me a ton of confidence and i thought they were valved exceptionally well i really really liked what they did on the forks for both the yamaha and the kawasaki and so i'm giving that a push that one is a tie okay so now let's talk about the chassis both chassis gave me a lot of confidence but i did notice that there were some things about the about the kawasaki that i really really liked number one is it's got a really really narrow thin feeling to that chassis another thing to note is that you have adjustable foot pegs you can move the position of the foot pegs down here on the bike which is kind of a nice thing both bikes had kickstands both bikes suck i replaced the yamaha's kickstand i should have done it on this kawasaki but i just haven't gotten around to it yet it kind of tips over too much it sticks out making it look like it it just sticks way too far out so you've got to get an aftermarket kit and you don't have to but it'd be nice to get an aftermarket kickstand for both of the bikes kawasaki uses these thin little brake lever and clutch levers it feels kind of weird the first time that you grab on to them and i thought i was going to hate them but you kind of it kind of like melds into the whole thing of the bike and you don't really notice it that much when you're riding it but it is something to note both bikes use nissan brakes and i think that they're fine i don't like them quite as much as the brembo brakes but both of the nissan brakes front and rear on the yamaha and the kawasaki actually worked pretty well so for chassis even though i kind of like the uh thin nature of this bike and i kind of like where you know you can adjust the foot pegs i do think that it's kind of a push i might give the edge slightly to the kawasaki on this one but i think it's mostly a tie on your main chassis components let's talk about the transmissions see the kawasaki still has a five-speed close ratio motocross style gearbox whereas the yamaha yz250 fx has the wr transmission which is a six-speed wide ratio transmission the winner there is the yamaha for sure for the type of riding that we're doing off-road riding in dural style riding five speeds is okay for some of the stuff but you are definitely missing out on some of the top end speed and being able to like you know connect trails together and everything so that was a whiff they should have put a six-speed transmission on this bike that is where the yamaha yz250 fx smokes this one it wins on the transmission hands down normally i wouldn't include an air box discussion if we're going to go head-to-head on two different bikes but because the kawasaki has the worst air box of any air box that i've had on a bike i have to bring it up here and give the edge to the yamaha see on the kawasaki you need a 10 mil 10 millimeter socket here an 8 millimeter socket here then you get this off and then the air box in here is too tight you're wiggling and finagling it's easy to tear your air filter it's easy to get a bunch of dirt falling down in the air in into the air boot into your intake and as you're putting the filter back in it's easy to tear the filter off the little filter cage and have it installed improperly and suck a ton of air through your motor that's a crappy design i'm not saying i full-on love the design for the yamaha which is like the toaster style air box up here i'll roll in some shots of that not saying that's the best design in the world it isn't but in this case we have to give the edge solely over to the yamaha because kawasaki screwed this one up there's not enough room in here and this airbox design sucks so out of the five things that i just highlighted i picked the kawasaki for only two of the five things and i picked the yamaha for four of the five things now again we are splitting hairs on this and yes i would rather own and rather ride the yamaha yz250fx because of some of those things another thing i didn't even mention is that i believe the yamaha even has a bigger gas tank so i'm gonna do a full review on this bike later it is one of my favorite bikes of all time but if i'm picking between the blue one or the green one i'm gonna be forced to pick the blue one right now because of some of those things we talked about engine mapping transmission and so on and so forth so both awesome bikes but i take the blue one if i'm gonna pick between them another thing i will say is you can always trust that i'm telling you the exact thing i think it would be in my best interest to tell you that this is the most amazing bike ever because i'm giving this away and i'm selling t-shirts for it and you know hats and hoodies and fender kits it would be in my best interest to pub this thing up but i want to always give you guys the honest truth my honest opinion be able to look directly into the camera and say i paid full price for this thing and here's what i think about it and i do really love this bike but i think i love the yamaha
