[Music] for you it's called the ranunculus I don't know if I said that right I think it's a flower and I can see the flowers in here so maybe that's right it's ranunculus by Nick cafe Midori I'll just show you see that random Gil with its ranunculus I'll spell it - I'll spell it out I've been watching my friend Melissa Otis bust Rico make several versions of this and then I think it was oh yes I know I was at the indeed I pop up and not house yarns in Frederick Maryland when I saw Cristina of Chelsea yarns ranunculus and I grabbed it off the rack and put it on my body and Warren around I fell in love with it it's so much fun and I had some skeins of yarn from her I have been eyeing pink peony forever I got this at the niddy City pop-up and look I had this much left over and I went to trade it in to make a second ranunculus I went to trade it for this which is the chocolate chip mint which I've also had my eye on forever and Christina said just keep these which I had purchased and give them away so if you're one of my patrons I have a patreon account in case you didn't know it's underneath this video a link patreon.com slash Kristy glass mint so you can support my channel monetarily monthly if you're one of my patrons you're going to be eligible for this as a giveaway which is what I'm wearing now it's supposed to be one in one I went a little bit over I went a little bit over into my second skein so I used the rest of my second skein to make minis for the stitch up Brooklyn Yarn Crawl ladies I don't think there were any gentlemen there like there were any gentlemen so the ladies and so I had because I had quite a bit extra and I wanted you to be able to make a little flower for your flower crown or whatever with the extra but apparently if you meet gage you won't go into a second skein of this this should be enough which is why I just got these two for a second ranunculus if I ever get to it I will it's so beautiful the reason is I I did like a very short gauge swatch situation and then I just went up a needle size so I knit this one a ten and a half and I knit a knitted exactly to pattern I thought when I bound off these sleeves I would come back and do a little judging for the short sleeves but no when you bind off you bind off there's a little curl in it it's fine and I knit to be for I think it's four inches here and around three inches here I did it all to pattern and I just ran out of mohair literally on the last maybe eight stitches of bind off but because it's the bind off it doesn't matter so you have enough in this project to make it I believe it's one size only let me just double check that yes it is one size and you can either do the short or the long sleeve you can also choose two different necklines so I chose the smaller neckline as opposed to the wider and I was a little thrown because it's a tubular cast on you have this provisional cast on with the with the crochet and then you follow the instructions exactly and I was a little confused at first because it said do this instructions and then take out the crochet lifeline now I've only done a provisional lifeline when I come back to it and join other live stitches and keep going so I was very nervous and I actually did a story about it and I'll see if I can add it to my highlights but I was nervous that it wouldn't even go over my head because it was so tight and it was very comical but I figured out that by following the instructions in the pattern I had been doing the tubular cast on all along can you see can you see it there it kind of looks like it starts from nothing so if you just follow exactly what it says to do oh look that's a nice close-up of the yoke look at all of these fun stitches I learned it was so much fun but if you just follow the instructions exactly have confidence in it just rip that provisional cast on right out now if you do a provisional cast on with the crochet correctly it should just unzip I've never been able to do it that way so I don't know if I'm just unzipping from the wrong end or making some sort of mistake but it doesn't matter you just can't like snip it and pull it out as you go and wow it's so beautiful so I learned that this this was a sweater of learning up to this point and then you're just smooth sailing because you're stocking netting and you're ribbing this is the is a special rib it's not a normal rib but I've done that rib before - it can't remember what it's called but this had all sorts of new stitches in it look at that check this out it kind of from far away looks like a cable situation but it's like a fake cable because it has this special sort of stretchy stitch and then this openness here it's so much fun and it goes so fast because once you're done with the concentration part you're just smooth sailing I was singing about the term med nutation today I was in the car for about three hours today and I was thinking about that and I thought you know how can you describe someone to someone you know knitting and and the the different ways it serves you and so I was thinking about this sweater because it's a yoke that you have to concentrate on if you're not used to these new stitches or this turbulent tube tubular cast on if you're not used to that you have to concentrate and even concentrating on that as a meditation because it's focusing you in on a task and because you're focusing concentrating so much on getting it right you leave other things behind you leave other troubles at the table at the door and you focus in on one thing you focus in on the tactile nature of it touching the yarn holding it making sure you're getting that stitch right and then it switches gears because after you split for the sleeves whether it be long or short you're doing the stockinette which is just something you you know that might be coming easy to you now because you've no knitting if you're new to knitting you might still be concentrating quite a lot but even so it's just the focus of the task at hand it really serves a purpose for us in our lives so anyway I love this sweater I feel like it pairs really well with these high-waisted jeans that I have on today you can see that there it's about an 11 inch seam here so it hits right on my natural waist and then this barely covers it this is my hip right here so that's a nice high waisted Jean pairing I feel like it could also go great with a romper a high-waisted skirt a flowy perhaps linen dress underneath or just a flowy knit dress underneath I feel like you can toss it on top toss it off whatever you want now pattern calls for a lace weight yarn and I use these two together so this is a fingering weight this is pink peony by Chelsea luxe its 80/10/10 superwash merino cashmere nylon and this one and this is I use the full 400 yards plus more and then this is the mohair silk which is 459 yards and I ran out with maybe less than a yard to go and again I did not meet gage so I think you'll be good to go with this the other thing is I didn't have time to properly give this a wash in a block because I wanted to wear it for today and for an interview I did at Chelsea yarn so what I did is I used a spray bottle and I just went down the parts that I knew I wanted to open up which was this yoke and I wanted it to grow a little bit in length because superwash really does grow then I took my hot iron and I filled it with water put it on the steamed wool setting and I ironed it so I think that it I open really well I tried to pull it down a little bit it might it might grow a little bit more with a proper proper block but I'm really happy with the way it fits me just as a reminder I'm about a thirty to a 27 inch waist so the one size fits all and me knitting it a little bit bigger it looks like this on on this body so I think that you can probably alter it with maybe adding a few stitches maybe adding a pattern repeat you can play with the math and maybe make it bigger or if you want to make it smaller you can I would suggest going down a needle size or two and maybe trying it on as you go that's why those cocoa knits leather straps are really good straps there are leather needles are really good because you can put your work on that and try it on as you go for lengths and things like that keeping in mind depending on the fiber you're using superwash grows non superwash doesn't grow as much so if you've done a proper swatch like you should which I didn't then you'll know more in Meishan about your garment I know it can be frustrating when something is just one size but I'm just I just wanted to let you know this is the information that I have you can see there's plenty of room in these sleeves I have particularly skinny arms so make a note of that mohair is warm it's deceptively warm so it is the spring right now in New York City we're having about a 60 degree day and I have been comfortable wearing this all day so I do think it's a wonderful transition piece I do think it would be super super cozy with the long sleeve I did not get enough yarn to make this long-sleeve version but I think I'm going to be loving these little popovers because I want to wear a hand every day no matter what the weather is so I'm really excited to add this one to my collection as well I would suggest going over to a spas treecko's Instagram feed it's probably on their YouTube channel as well just to see the different versions that Melissa has made and the way she has styled it she styles it with little cropped jeans and boots and linen dresses and skirts she's really good at styling her oversized croppie sweaters so if you want some style inspiration I would head on over there to see what she's up to with her ranunculus but for now I just love sharing mine I have been waiting to knit with this yarn and I finally did I cannot I cannot brag about it enough it is I'm bragging something I earn it's just so so plump so squishy it blooms so beautifully it wears so well and apparently this is her highest selling color pink peony so I'm happy to give away those to one of my patrons and an upcoming giveaway and thank you as always for checking in to Kristy glass myths I will link underneath this video to this Chelsea luxe yarn to the pattern and to a spa streak Oh as well as my patreon account if you are interested in becoming a patron so you can be eligible for the giveaway and thank you so much for checking in here Kristy glass knits I'll see you next time bye [Music]
