oh hello there I am Kristy glass of Kristy glass nets I am about as surprised as you that I have another Caitlyn hunter Boylan networks fo I had no idea this sweater was in my future many times I'm thinking about a sweater a pattern yarns for months and months maybe years in advance of knitting them because I have so many ideas and not enough time to knit them but this one just took me by storm I attended the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in May of 2019 it was May I guess four five six something like that yeah and I went to the knot house yarn shop in Frederick Maryland and I noticed that during their indie pop up with all of these different indeed iers that almost every single Dyer had a sample of the Soldotna crop by Caitlin hunter now Soldotna I know if I'm saying that right because Caitlyn always has some names that I'm not familiar with but it is a small town in Alaska with a population of about 4,000 people I wonder if they know that thousands of knitters know about their town now I don't know but all of these beautiful samples were just drawing me in and I thought mmm I really need to knit that I wasn't thinking about it ahead of time sometimes her patterns just go by my face I don't even realize they're out even though I see them on my feet it's the nature of sort of mindless scrolling on Instagram sometimes things don't sink in there but seeing them in person over and over again finally got buried in there and I thought yes I'm gonna make that no he didn't realize how fast I was going to make this I saw that Lizzie of mermaids pearl put on her instace Tori I finished my Sultana crop just in time for Christy coming and I thought oh hey you know that would be a great challenge for myself could I get this done before I go next weekend so that I could add the Boylan Network's trunk show that I bring with me when I visit yard shops now while I was at the indeed pop-up at not house I was talking to the nice and Nick rolls and I decided to pick out my sold out in a crop from them and they very very generously gifted me the yarn so I wanted to start there by showing you the yarn that I got so this beautiful color I believe this is called harvest I'm not even going to take the tag Oaks I think it's called harvest and you can see it here right here you see that in here it's also one of the little polka spots in the body of the crop sweater so this is the one you used the least amount and then I have oil this is royal love this color so much we really decided on these colors pretty quickly they had a beautiful bright sample that I was interested in but I didn't have that yarn at the time so we went off and figured out a different combination for me and I love how mine turned out I wasn't sure about this very dark yoke but I kept saying to myself don't worry the body is gonna be like the pie is gonna be light and I just adore the contrast okay this one is called deep blue sea tiki now something I wasn't sure about was having to almost completely solid plus one semi solid plus one sort of indeed i speckle a look I wasn't sure how that was going to work out but I chose to really trust the nice and Nick rose and I'm so glad I did because I love the result of my sweater I feel like it's very Caitlin Hunter I feel like she is a master of taking these indeed irons that we have all of this access to and putting them in to sort of a traditional box with a twist you know this one's this one has this twist of no sleeves and it's cropped so let me tell you about how I approach this pattern I had the yarn it was just staring at me going knit me we knit me and it was Mother's Day and all I want to do on Mother's Day is just knit whatever I want because sometimes I'm knitting things that are specifically for a job you don't always know that I'm doing that I have a few secrets out there but sometimes I am knitting for work and I knew I did not want to knit anything that was associated with any job I just wanted to do completely selfish knitting which is what I do most of the time but when I have some deadlines happening I just need to take a break from that so I knew I wanted to cast this on on Mother's Day I knew that I did not want to swatch so what I was thinking is okay whenever I'm doing a Kaitlyn pattern I usually have to go up or down a needle size let me think about this well let's see the taenia I had to go way up way up and a lot of the other ones I kind of stayed right right where she suggested so knowing what I knew I didn't think about it too long cuz now that I'm saying it out loud I feel like maybe I'm wrong about what I did but knowing what I know I thought you know what I'm just going to cast on in the needle that she says and instead of doing an extra small like I normally might do I'm going to do a small and that way if I'm off gauge it will either fit like the extra small or it will fit with the positive ease of the medium which is really what I should be going forward because Kaitlyn always wants you to have positive ease in her sweater well I'm sure Kaitlyn just wants to knit what we want to knit but she will always say when there is positive ease she'll she'll note it she'll say this is 4 inches of positive YZ or something like that so I thought well I can't really go wrong if the sizing is off plus it's a crop plus there's no sleeves plus a superwash merino which means it's gonna grow plus I have children in my life who could wear it if it's really really too small so I just thought going for it so I cast on on Saturday night and I just got a little bit done on this collar and then I went crazy and I got to about here on Sunday and then on Monday I got to about I think it was row 6 so there's in the pattern she says 6 repeats of body which is about an inch long pervy Pete but I thought you know I have the yarn and I am not sure how this is gonna block out so I think I'd like to do a few more repeats I did a little poll on my insta story and after hearing from some people I decided to go for eight repeats so on Tuesday I finished up the eight repeat added the ribbed cuff on the sleeves and the bottom the bottom of the sweater here oh you can see right here and then I quickly quickly washed it I didn't give it a proper soak because it was very late but I just got it all wet put it on my blocking boards went to sleep and by Wednesday I had a sweater I can't believe it either but here's the thing DK weights flies for me color work flies off my needles it's just a rhythm that I get into because I account a lot like my my you know neutral brain I count I don't know what other people do maybe they spell sometimes I spell but a lot of times I'm counting so if I'm if I'm walking about in the city I will be one two three four I get up to like to the 200s before something will interrupt my puff so that's just where my brain goes and so it's really easy for me to figure out tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-tu and I just will it's just like almost meditative it's like this crazy brain place brain space that I get in to so that's why it's so fast for me and I did do some math I wrote down how much of each skein I used and how much I had left to see if I could actually make a second one with the exact yarn and I might be able to cast on an extra small and like go down a couple needle size and have enough but it's too much of a risk I don't want to do it but there is plenty left over for maybe a D stash I have coming up if you want to use one of the colors in your sold out in a crop and in the yoke means one of the ones that has a lot left because that harvest is such a gorgeous color I had such a great time knitting this I have seen on the hashtags sold out in a crop that a lot of people are knitting more than one and I do think there's some that alongs happening at least right now when I'm shooting in May 2019 I think there are some middle unk's happening for the cropped sweater or for the Soldotna crop sweater it's I cannot recommend this in enough for me it was forced gains so depending on your size I think the the main color that you'll need more of is this main body color which I believe is color too so when you're looking at the pattern because you can see color one color to color two repeats in the body you could also just kind of use more than four so if you have a stash of all these random decays you could put them together and see what happens do you like how that looks or maybe you could double up some fingering weights games I think doubling a fingering like skein is equal to a DK weight you just experiment I bet you already have the yarn for this crop so head on over to Boylan networks you can check that out on her rivalry page I will link it underneath this video so you can find it easily and I want to say thank you again to those beautiful ladies for gifting me this yarn I hope I served it well because I just love how my crop turned out so much and I've had fun trying to style this crop so today I'm wearing a dress that has a navy and white stripe I love combining prints I'll just stand up one more time so you can see that I'm loving that as a transition of season look especially the stripes I think are very springy so I'm hoping that this coldish weather that we're having in New York City this may will hang on a little longer so I can wear myself out in a crop as we transition into summer and then as I transition out I may have just a different look for this sold on the crop you never know thank you so much as always for checking in here at Kristy glass knits it is my pleasure and joy to bring you information and passion and joy about knitting and crocheting and fiber arts I just love it all and so happy to share it with you yeah [Music]
