[Music] so it's time to change things up as we reach the end of the Kirby marathon now while most of the games in this series are those fun and charming colorful adventures that we all love so much nearly half of the games in this franchise are actually spin-offs pretty much all of the main games in this franchise have like two sub games within them and if you've watched the entire marathon you've seen them all but sometimes developers take these smallest of ideas and make full titles out of them and I'm going to talk about most of them today in order of release and these three are going to get their own video after this I think there's enough in these games to warrant that it's sort of similar to Epic Yarn in that aspect which was a spinoff but it was so fleshed out that I managed to get a full video out of it anyway and there are a couple of oddities here and there like Kirby's toy box for the Super Nintendo to tell of you if anyone out there even knows what that means but we have plenty games to look at today anyway seven in total so let's waste little time and get right into the first one Kirby's pinball and for the Game Boy its pinball with the Kirby theme well alrighty then that's one down next up we have kirby's dream course for the ahright ahright fine that's not entirely fair but really there's just not much to this one Kirby plays the role of the pinball and across three different pinball tables it is your goal to make it to the top and take on that tables boss you defeat whispy woods crack oh and poppy brother senior yeah fight King Dedede and once you're done you continue on and start the game over to get the highest score possible but this is virtual pinball on the Gameboy we're talking about here sometimes the physics can be a little bit wonky your pass to DDD could take twenty minutes or it could take two hours expects to fall to the bottom and frustratingly reset the game often but if you do sit down and play it with the intention of completing it it can be a fun ride each table has a few gimmicks here there on top of the three bosses are also three mini-games one for each table and the music is as expected super catchy this would also begin Nintendo's absurd trend of making pinball games with their mascots they did that a lot and I really don't know light you remember Mario pinball land yes I try not to where Zelda a link to the pinball is my question and hey if you are in the mood for more Game Boy pinball goodness by Hell there's a revenge of the Gator which came out first and it's kind of neat as well and really now when else is anybody going to talk about this game next up we jump to the Super Nintendo with Kirby's Dream course taking the form of a ball once again dream course is a bit of a mini golf game by adjusting the power of your shot as well as any bit of additional roll or curve you can give it it is your goal to hit all of the enemies on the course then the last remaining enemy becomes the hole you get Kirby in there and about a bing bada boom you move on to the next course there are a bunch of copy abilities as well each playing vital roles in getting the best score possible adding a good bit of variety there but honestly single-player isn't that much fun each course has a precise path to get the best score and if you don't know it it can be frustrating being any more than a pixel off of your mark there are eight worlds in total each getting progressively more difficult and to be honest with you I simply don't have the patience to get through it funnily enough there's even a story as well though only in the Japanese version it's weird the evil King Dedede has stolen all of the stars in the sky and Kirby sets off to stop them well okay then that was simple however now in multiplayer things change completely the whole precise path thing is still there but screwing up with your buddy is way more fun than screwing up alone it's a it's a metaphor on life really especially since now it is a battle to get the most stars you can for finishing the course and you can even directly bump into them just causing the most enjoyable of fight that can cause risk in friendships this is not really my multiplayer game of choice but if you're up to it dream course does a pretty good job just don't play single-player it's really it's really not that good next up on the Super Nintendo is Kirby's Avalanche oh hey wait sorry sorry Kirby's Avalanche mimimi mimimi beatiful now this one's going to be pretty easy to describe this is just an entry in the popular puzzle game series poyo poyo color blobs fall you rotate and move the group's to your liking and once a group of four or more of the same color touch they disappear and then he blobs above them will fall potentially creating combos and since you're basically always against an opponent the higher the combo the more trash blobs show up on the opponent's side the single-player mode pits you against a row of different characters and for the first and only time ever Kirby actually speaks proper English huh Raja Bert why why did she yell it Bronto part Bronto Bert now this is a tried and true puzzle game if you like games like Tetris or dr. Mario this basically falls in that same boat and hey you ever play dr. Robotnik's mean bean machine because hey look at that it's the same game this is actually very similar to Tetris attack a game that received a yoshi team when they got localized because a puzzle game featuring tiny fairy girls probably wouldn't have gone over all that well west out of japan and lo and behold would you look at that super poyo poyo on the Super Famicom was what even what even is this this is terrifying okay the Kirby change was for the best so I mean Avalanche is kind of fun I guess poyo poyo is a fun puzzle game but it's not really one of my favorites the Kirby theme certainly kind of helped but aside from a couple sprites and very twangy sounding remix a Kirby game this isn't now we're taking a trip back to the Gameboy with Kirby block ball on hey look at that we got a super Gameboy border for the first time cool this is a breakout style game where Kirby plays the role of the ball once again for each stage destroy every block and then move on to the next one ending off with a boss fight for copy abilities show up as well allowing you to manipulate the ball at any time with the press of a button instead of just bouncing him around endlessly there are 11 worlds in total with the main difference in each really just being the color palette the boss and once again excellent music you know they really didn't need to make music this good for a breakout game but hey more power to the composers I guess there's some replayability to with the final world only being accessible after surpassing the top score in the initial 10 which can actually be kind of difficult to time but once you do that you can finally take on King Dedede and once he's defeated he explodes why and then Kirby rides atop of fountain as the credits roll adorable as a breakout game it is naturally kind of repetitive but for an arcade style game on the Gameboy it's actually pretty enjoyable I only first played this game a couple years ago but it's already become my favorite of the Gameboy spin-off for sure and speaking of the final Gameboy game is kirby star stacker it's a puzzle game so there's not much to say about this one either right off the bat it is very easy to compare this to avalanche however this puzzle system is pretty unique to block pieces full and it's up to you to make rows or columns of matching animal buddies either right next to each other or with star blocks in between by doing so you accumulate a bunch of stars and once you get enough you beat the stage you move on to the next one and really you just keep doing that until you decide to stop there's a couple of extra modes here like a score attack and a challenge mode but more importantly the expected Kirby charm that was kind of lacking in avalanche is here the music is catchy surprise surprise the dancing scene as expected is adorable and upon playing really well you are treated to these great looking pictures of Kirby with his animal buddies that's like my favorite part of the game right there not great not bad just sort of alright and in fact this is the perfect way to transition back to the Super Nintendo because star stacker actually got a Japanese only remake slash sequel called Kirby no kita kita kazoo so for the sake of not butchering the Japanese language in the future I'm just going to refer to this as kirby superstar stacker that makes sense it rolls off the tongue superstar is the thing we call cool the most notable improvement here are of course the graphics using that same crayon coloring book art style as Dream Land 3 and it looks pretty good the music has all been remixed too which is nice however in terms of gameplay it is exactly the same as the predecessor although there is a brand new story mode pitting you against a bunch of characters in a row again like Avalanche in order to protect this star thing or something I really don't know I can't tell why all of these characters have it out for you because I can't read Japanese but no chef Kawasaki you can't have him time to fight fun facts though as you would anticipate the final battle is against King Dedede but did you know that the awesome masked d2d theme from Super Star Ultra is actually a remix of this game's DD theme I'm glad I finally get a chance to show off this bit of useless Kirby knowledge that I've had in my head for nearly a decade there's actually a secret final boss if you play through the single player mode perfectly named grill a little witch character she shows up out of nowhere you fight her she said that's that's it and now the cool thing is some of you probably didn't even know this game existed and really you're not missing much if you are just clamoring for more star stacker check it out otherwise your best bet for a spinoff on a Super Nintendo probably dream course now we move on to the final game of this video we jump to the Game Boy Color only on Game Boy Color get into it man the 90s were weird only one single kirby game made it to this console that being yay now this game works on one simple gimmick the cartridge has a tilt sensor built into it meaning the game is controlled by tilting the entire console and kirby rolls accordingly look at that Nintendo doing motion controls all the way back in the year 2000 although he doesn't play the role of a ball this time around he just sort of tucks his feet in and he goes that that distinction just clearly had to be made technology aside when it comes to the gameplay itself it's super simple you just roll around collect stars and make it to the end in one piece you can also flick the Gameboy upwards to get kirby to jump which is actually super satisfying there's some decent variety in terms of level gimmicks doing the best it can to change things up without making the game more complicated than it needed to be there are also these special mini games that you can play by finding a special colored star within the level there's five in total naturally all using the tilt sensor and they're pretty neat as well really though this is kind of an instance to where if you played one or two of the levels you've kind of played the entire game it's perfectly fine though and the only weird thing about it is a majority of the bosses are these colored eyeball things called observer they're not the only bosses in the game of course but it's just weird how five of them are just these things and they never show up in the series again but the thing that sucks the most about this game is that it's basically impossible to play now the cartridge sticks out upside down in a Gameboy Advance SP reversing all of the tilt controls and yes it's pretty tough that way the same goes for the Gameboy player not like it'd be that great controlling the game that way anyway and actually for the purpose of good footage I've been emulating this game on the Wii which is nice because I can play the game with proper tilt control as intended but it's just not the same if you do have access to a gameboy color or an original Game Boy Advance then go for it totally worth it then but otherwise you may as well just skip it there was actually a cancelled sequel for this game too on the Gamecube that would have used 2d Game Boy Advance link cable but think that's a topic for another time as well crew at seven games in roughly 15 minutes or so that's a job well done if I do say so myself now there was one more Kirby spin-off that released after this and that's Kirby air ride for the Gamecube and it is a fantastic game city trial is amazing I would go on about it more but I've already done that shameless self plug and with that there is only one final video in this Kirby marathon the last three spin-offs and as I like to call MV Kirby touch games I hope you're looking forward to it but of course that's next time so until then bronze over why is that a thing [Music] [Music]
