- Imagine that you're going
into a trance right now. Just like that, very good. (laughs) Yep, exactly, just like that. - My name's Ethan. - I'm Jim, nice to meet you, Ethan. - My name's Helena. - Helena, nice to meet you, I'm Jim. - I'm Ernie. - Nice to meet you, Ernie. - My name is Sienna, and also
what kind of person are you? An office man? - An office man? - Like a principal or a manager? - Nope, I'm not those. - You're a businessman. - No. - A tooth fairy.
(laughter) - Nope, I don't fly.
(laughs) - Okay, how about this? Are you ready? You're getting sleepy. (laughs) I'm thinking they've
never heard of what I do. (laughs) I'm a hypnotist!
- What's a hypnotist? - That's what I assumed was gonna happen. (laughs) - I watched a movie about a penguin who hypnotized this guy
to do all his bidding. - Yes, and so you know what? Everything you've ever seen in a movie about hypnosis is wrong. - [Ethan] Really?
- It is, sorry. - Can you make me act
like a chicken right now? - Probably not. - Have you ever hypnotized any animals? - I have not. - Have you made anyone poop their pants? - I have not. - What can you make people do? - Well, I can make people
quit smoking or lose weight or get better at video games. - How do make them lose weight? - Well, I put them in
hypnosis and then I tell them that they should eat
healthy foods and exercise. - I think my dad needs
to lose some weight. - Does he?
(laughing) Ouch. - How many people have you hypnotized? - Oh, thousands. How about you? - Even more than thousands.
- Really? - Yeah, mostly I stare into a kid's eyes if they're being mean. They usually get creeped out. (laughs) - Let's look in each others' eyes. Ooh, it is creepy. (laughing)
Whoa! (laughs)
- Yep! - Can you hypnotize me? - Absolutely, do you
want to be hypnotized? - Yes.
- Okay. - I think I already know
how to hypnotize you. - Oh.
- Close your eyes. - No you don't know what
you're talking about. - Pretend right now that all the muscles in your head and neck
are just totally relaxed. Take a moment and just open
your eyes nice and wide and then close them right down. Then open them up again and close 'em right down. And then you can just feel
like you're wrapped up in a warm and comfortable
blanket of total relaxation. (blows raspberry)
Good. Imagine that you're going
into a trance right now. Just like that, very good. (laughs) Very good, Miko, you're doing perfectly. You're gonna lift up
your wrist one more time. Relax, sleep. Just relax. Just let go completely. Good, perfect, just like that. And the deeper you go the better you feel, the better you feel the deeper you go. And the sound of my
voice is the only sound you need to pay attention to. All outside sounds and distractions
simply guide you deeper and even deeper now, perfect. Good, you're doing perfectly. Just like that. You're doing good, too. (laughs)
- You woke. - Why didn't it actually
make me hypnotized? - Oh, you know what?
Everybody has different ideas about what they think hypnosis feels like. - But you didn't make me do anything. - Some people it just takes longer, so you might just take a
little bit longer, that's all. Might have to use different
strategies for you 'cause you're pretty hyper. - Yeah I am.
- Yeah? (laughs) In a moment, I'm gonna
count from one to three. The moment that I say
three, you'll realize that you've forgotten the number two. No matter how hard you try
to think of the number two, it's totally gone, it's totally vanished. One, two, three, eyes open,
wide aware, feeling really good. Do you feel pretty relaxed right now? - What is this? - One, three, four, five, six? - How many fingers did you come with? - Apparently six.
(laughs) - I want to hypnotize you. - Sounds good. - Close your eyes, plug
your nose, and close. Okay. Touch your ears. - Touch my ears? Like this? - Yeah.
- Okay. - Now you're hypnotized. (snaps fingers) (laughs) - Relax those arms, relax
those legs, relax those feet. And wake up! - (laughs) You're doing great. - Sleep!
(laughing) - Every time that I say your
name, you bark like a dog. One, two, three, eyes open, wide aware. So I just want to tell you I
really appreciate you coming in voluntarily to do this with me, Miko. - Bork, bork. - What was that? - What was what? - You just said "Bark, bark." - Huh? - Sleep, just relax, good boy. - Have you ever tried to
hypnotize your enemies? - I have not, but I'm gonna start trying. - Instead of hypnotizing people, can you hypnotize computers? - No I cannot hypnotize computers. - It's not alive. - Dang it.
- It's not alive. It can only work with people. - Miko, what I want you to
do is I want you to focus on one thing in your life
that you'd like to change, something that you'd like to be better at or maybe something that
you'd like to get rid of if it's a bad habit. Now as I say one, you start to come back feeling more confident, more successful in everything that you do. Two, feeling more
motivated, more determined. Three, wiggling your
fingers and toes a bit as you come out of the hypnotic state. Four, maybe stretching,
moving a little bit. And five, eyes open, wide awake, all the way back feeling really good. What was that like for you? - Fun.
- Yeah? Good. Because people, when they're
dancing around and stuff on stage for a common hypnosis show, a lot of times afterwards they say they don't remember anything. - Well. - Do you remember your
experience with the hypnosis? - A little. I remember I couldn't count two. I kept on saying bork. - Uh huh, why were you saying "Bork"? - I don't know.
(laughs) - See, that's the same
thing that happens to them. - Okay.
(laughs) - When you grow up, do you think you might want to be a hypnotist? - Yeah. - You know what you would be perfect for? Being a stage hypnotist because then you can look in people's eyes and go "Now bark like a dog." (laughing) Now do you think you'll want
to hypnotize other people? - Yes, very much yes. - Thank you for teaching
me all that stuff. - Well thanks for being
such a good student. Now remember, though, when
you're hypnotizing people only use that power for good. - Dang it.
