Junko Furuta: Japan's Most INFAMOUS Murder

to many people japan seems like the coolest country in the world despite its incredibly dark colonial past especially the heinous acts committed by the japanese army under the orders of the high command and emperor hirohito during world war ii the country has kind of redeemed itself by becoming a sort of mecca of pop culture food video games anime manga and in relation to the last two hentai it also boasts one of the lowest crime rates in the world with it having the lowest number of intentional homicides out of any country that said crime does still exist in japan the yakuza are one of the world's largest criminal organizations and have existed in one form or another for over 400 years there's also the biker gangs groups of violent young men who ride around on modded motorcycles terrorizing the public japan was also home to om shinrikyo originally founded by shelko asahara as a peaceful religion it quickly expanded into a cult with thousands of members many of them being highly educated scientists and engineers eventually it became a terrorist group responsible for an anthrax attack on the tokyo subway system that was the most devastating attack on japanese soil since world war ii however in recent years one crime has attracted a huge amount of attention on the internet for how violent depraved and purely horrific it was it took place over 44 days and involved five people four perpetrators and one victim one of the most shocking details about this crime is that none of the parties involved were over the age of 18. this crime proved that adults are not the only people capable of committing acts that could be considered pure evil the incident would go on to be one of the most infamous in japanese history and today we'll be discussing it this is the story of junko furata and her killers junko furita was born on january 18 1971 in the city of misato in the saitama prefecture of japan she was the middle child of three children having one older and one younger brother almost everyone who knew her described her as a very kind friendly and pretty girl who was very popular at school she attended yashio minami high school where she was a straight a student and was very rarely absent from school she also had a job at a plastics molding factory to raise money to attend college after graduating from high school junka was obviously quite popular with the boys at yashiyami nami hai due to her looks and intelligence one boy who had his eyes on her was hiroshi miano unlike junko miano was a bully and a delinquent who was known to have ties to the yakuza it's believed that he had already engaged in crimes ranging from pickpocketing and extortion to rape miano most likely had no actual feelings for junko and merely wanted to have the most popular girl at school as a sort of trophy to have at his side further establishing himself as the big man on campus miano asked junko out believing she'd know better than to turn him down however she politely declined miano enraged that junko would turn him down knowing full well of his yakuza connections would not take no for an answer a few days later he would launch a plan to make her pay for rejecting him on november 25th 1988 miano and his friend and fellow low ranking yakuza 16 year old shinji minato were hanging around in a park searching for women to prey upon at around 8 30 p.m they spotted junko riding home from work on her bicycle on miyano's orders minato kicked junko off her bike and ran away miano acting as if he was just passing by ran over to help her up he asked if she'd like for him to walk her home to which she accepted sadly she would never make it home miano led her to an abandoned warehouse after dragging her inside he threatened to kill her and her family if she made a sound he then took her to a hotel where he called minato and his other friends joe ogura and yasushi watanabe and bragged about what he had just done ogra told miano that they should keep junko captive at 3am miano took her to a park where his friends were waiting after finding out her home address from her notebook the boys told her that they knew where she lived and if she attempted to escape the yakuza would kill her family the boys then took her to a house owned by shinji benato's parents which became their main hideout two days after her disappearance junko's parents filed a missing persons report with the police after learning about this the boys forced junko to call her parents and tell them that she had run away but was safe and staying with friends because of this the boys knew the police would stop looking for her with her parents and the police out of the way the boys were now free to put junko through an experience which would reach new levels of depravity whenever shinji minato's parents were present in the home he would pretend junker was his girlfriend they knew he was lying but feared what he would do if they attempted to intervene due to his yakuza affiliation and because he was already violent towards them when he and the other boys knew his parents wouldn't report them to the police he stopped pretending junko was his girlfriend the boys would keep jungkook captive in minato's house for 40 days they informed other yakuza and their friends that they had a girl who they could all use for their sick pleasures when she wasn't being tortured she was forced to sleep outside in sub-zero december temperatures on january 4th 40 days after she was kidnapped junko was beaten to death after miano lost a game of mahjong and decided to take his frustrations out on her the next day the boys wrapped her body in blankets and stuffed it into a travel bag they then dumped the body into an oil drum and filled it with cement before disposing of the drum in a cement truck in koto tokyo on january 23rd almost three weeks after junko's death hiroshi miano and joe ogura were arrested for the rape of a 19 year old girl whom they kidnapped in december during the time when junko was being held captive two months later the police came to question them about another crime after they had found women's underwear while searching both of their addresses miano was convinced that the police had figured out that he was involved in the murder of junko furita and believing that ogre had already confessed to the crime told the police where to find the body however the police were actually interrogating him over the murder of a woman and her seven-year-old son that had actually occurred over a week before the boys kidnapped junko that case has reportedly never been solved the next day the police found the oil drum containing junko's body and identified her by her fingerprints on april 1st the four boys were arrested and charged for the kidnapping assault and murder of junko furita upon their arrest the boys names were with help from the public due to them being minors as such they were referred to as a b c and d however some journalists discovered their names and believing the boys did not deserve anonymity published them in newspapers and magazines for whatever reason joe ogre's eyes appear to have never been covered in any of the images i've found perhaps maybe even the police didn't think he deserved to have his identity completely hidden rather than confess to murder the boys pled guilty to committing bodily injury that resulted in death hiroshimiano the boy who had been turned down by junko had initiated the attack on her kidnapped her and who was considered to be the leader of the four boys was sentenced to 17 years in prison he attempted to appeal this sentence but was unsuccessful and received an extra three years bringing the total to 20 years the maximum sentence for a minor shinji minato was originally only given a four to six year sentence but the judge extended this to five to nine years after a failed appeal his parents and brother despite knowing what was going on in their home and never attempting to contact the police were not charged yasushi watanabe who was originally sentenced to three to four years in prison received an upgraded sentence of five to seven years after a failed appeal joe ogura was sentenced to eight years in prison naturally the public were outraged by the sentences given to the boys believing that they were far too light and that the boys should have all been jailed for the rest of their lives junko's parents filed a civil suit against the parents of the four boys which they successfully won hiroshima's parents were ordered to pay 50 million yen leading to them having to sell their home furita's funeral was held on april 2nd 1989 one of her friends wrote this memorial for her oh [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] presented her with a high school diploma which was given to her parents hiroshima spent 20 years behind bars finally being released in 2009 at the age of 38. upon his release he changed his name to yokoyama and it would seem he returned to the yakuza as he apparently lives a rather lavish lifestyle regularly taking his friends to parties and strip clubs owns a bmw and wears expensive brand name clothing and frequently brags about his ties to organize crime he has also taken up kickboxing however at every gym he attends he refers to himself simply as k and uses that pseudonym in private with his friends in this magazine article it's revealed that he tries to hide his involvement with what happened to junko the person being interviewed stated that he suspected k was really hiroshimiano after seeing the resemblance between him and this photo this suspicion was reinforced by kay's sudden two-week disappearance after it was reported that miano was arrested for fraud in 2013 but released due to lack of evidence the interviewee also stated that he had asked k outright if he was hiroshimiano and said that he immediately went pale upon being asked this the following day they lost all contact with kaye and he completely vanished there's been no word on him since 2013 but it would seem that despite boasting about his yakuza ties he's afraid of people finding out about his past joe ogura was released from prison in 1999 and apparently found a job at a computer firm after learning some i.t skills however he was fired after his co-workers learned of his involvement with junko's death realizing that he would never escape his violent past he joined a gang and would regularly brag about what he did to junko when i was a boy i went to jail for 10 years i had put a girl in confinement and one day when i came back to the house from when i went out to play the girl was dead so i lit a cigarette and put it next to her nose and the smoke didn't move at all that's how i knew she was dead a year after this quote ogre would go on to kidnap and beat one of the gang members he bragged about this too on may 19 2004 ogre beat takatoshi isono one of the members of his gang on the street and threatened him with a bat he then kidnapped disono and drove 40 minutes away to misato city where he said the following while beating the man you're the one who took my woman i'll kill you i have killed before he allegedly beat isono for four hours he was arrested for the attack and sentenced to seven years in prison it's also been reported that he squandered his father's savings which was meant to be paid to junko's family as part of the civil suit spending it on luxury items for himself his mother had also vandalized junko's grave saying that she had ruined her son's life shinji monato was released between 1994 and 1998 since his release he has lived with his mother and has never worked for many years he remained out of the spotlight but in 2018 he was arrested after assaulting and attempting to kill a man after being arrested he had the following to say about his former life in prison for junko's murder prison is nothing but hardships and is not an environment where i can confront my past crimes even after being released from prison society is just too difficult so of course i couldn't face my past crimes in various articles written about me they say that i am beyond rehabilitation these people have never met or spoken with me so they have no idea of how i live my life so why do they arbitrarily write these things about me idiots yasushi watanabe was released in 1996 and immediately withdrew from public life a reporter contacted his mother and managed to get an interview with watanabe and his family the contents of this interview were released in 2001 while this interview appears to be lost i managed to find out that the response to it was mixed with some feeling sympathetic towards watanabe and the rest feeling that the interview painted him in too much of a sympathetic light it's believed that watanabe showed regret for his involvement in junko's death the fact that he's the only one of the four boys who hasn't been arrested again since being released certainly does suggest that he chose to leave his criminal past behind and tried to live something resembling a normal life it goes without saying that the boys should have all received life sentences for what they did the court obviously felt that because of their age that would be too harsh of a sentence and to that i say [ __ ] in 1994 eric smith was jailed for a truly horrific murder that he committed the year before he was 13 at the time he was sentenced to nine years to life in prison and has been denied parole 10 times since 2002. he's going to be eligible again in october of this year and mark my words he'll be denied again he's spent his entire adult life in prison do i believe he deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life yes and if you haven't read his story then i recommend you go and do so now because trust me after reading about what he did you'll see why i believe he deserves to be in prison for the rest of his life the situation surrounding junco's killers is actually kind of similar to that of john benneballs and robert thompson who murdered james bulger when they were only 10 years old again it was absolutely horrific what they did yet they only spent eight years in prison and they've been under the protection of the british government ever since they were released the courts even passed a global injunction that prohibits anyone from sharing any private information about the two including their appearance meaning it's illegal for me to show you any pictures of what they look like now john venables is currently in prison again for possession of child pornography and yet he's still protected by this injunction so it would seem america has a better justice system than the uk and japan because they've actually kept their child murderer behind bars apart from yasushi watanabe junko's killers have clearly learned nothing from their time in prison hiroshimiano is still a criminal but is afraid people will find out who he really is and runs for the hills when they do shinji benato pretends the crime is none of his business and blames the prison system for him reoffending and joe ogra seems to believe that his involvement in junko's death is his greatest achievement in life and brags about it to anyone who'll listen there was never any real justice for what was done to junko it was one of if not the most violent crime in japanese history yet the ones responsible are all free and all but one of them are still out there committing crimes i suppose all we can do now is hope that the four men don't commit another crime that is so horrific that they actually do end up facing the punishment that they should have received all those years ago as the thought them committing another act like this is truly horrifying and that's the end of the video folks i already know there's going to be comments lamenting the fact that i didn't show any graphic imagery or go into any graphic detail well lamenting is a nice way of saying it i suppose if you want to know exactly what the boys did to junko google it there's plenty of places where you'll get to read all about the horrible things they did just beware however that the acts they performed on junko are basically the very definition of horrific and you really should not look it up if you're squeamish anyway thank you very much for watching the video
