the next one is a tba game prompt which is perfect because i'm going to do um oh i forgot the name hi everybody my name is kelsey and we're about to get very very nerdy with june's tbr [Music] i am so excited for june it's my favorite month of the year i mean i'm a little biased because it's my birthday month but it's also the middle of the year it's when like it really starts to get warm because it hasn't been like super warm here it's only been like partially warm like the last week is when it really started to get warm but i have lots of exciting reading plans i'm taking part in the whatever you want to spawn or whatever it's called whatever a thon for short i will leave the announcement video down below but it is hosted by maddie at book a browsing blog it's basically a month-long readathon for june where you read literally whatever you want um and you can be as involved as you want to be in it it really the only main thing you have to do with it is set a goal of how many books you want to read by the end of the month i'm setting it for eight because that's how many books i usually pick in my tbr basket it felt like a good number to go with but there are so many more aspects to which there are teams there are special points that you have to you know get there are 15 i think there are 15 prompts that you can also fill but you can quadruple up on them so like if you read one book for all 15 prompts that would work so i'll go through all of the prompts at the end of the video but we're gonna do the tbr picks first but before we get into what i'm planning on reading for the actual physical tbr basket we have to look at last month all right here's a look at the physical books that i had picked out last month i believe i had nine books yes because i did have a punishment these are quite heavy so we started off with an absent dream by seanan mcguire which was to peruse the library i did the overdrive app we had my lady jane by cynthia ann brody action and jody meadows and that was a reread then we had to read a mass market paperback which i read the she did a little bit ebook version of never level highlander by maya banks and then we had the kingdom of back by marie lu which was to read a book that started with one of my initials aka k for kelsey then we had mary b by catherine j chen which was to read a book with nature on the cover we had love at first like down here which was to read a book with a number in the title we had acotar by sarah j maas which was to read a fantasy we have death on the nile by agatha christie i did have a different book in here but i am a dummy and i realize that book was not actually written by agatha christie so we flipped it out for this one instead and then finally the girl who speaks fair by sophie anderson which was to read a book set in a cold place and of all of those with about a little over a week left in the month i have these two that i have not finished however i am planning on reading mary b in the last week of the month for a readathon so i will for sure get this one done and i have started a girl who speaks bear i'm about a fourth of the way through it so this will be the one that if i get a punishment it will be this one's fault but editing kelsey will come back and tell you at the end if i actually do need to take a punishment but for now i'm gonna say i'm gonna finish both of these because like i said i've got over a week left in the month so no punishments yet but let's get into our first pick for june pick number one for june [Applause] i match this one looks good it is oh at lowest rated on goodreads all right so the first was to pick the lowest rated book on goodreads and because i recorded my phone i couldn't show you but i'll pop it here um i went through goodreads and you know sorted my tbr by lowest rated and the one that won that i guess is the jane austen marriage manual by kim izzo this is one i've had on my shelves for a very long time i don't even remember quite what it's about it falls for my character kate and i know she loses her job but also her friends pitch in for like an estate in scotland and she's writing this like article about whether or not you can get a man based on jane austen books and so she tries it out with a lord i think i expect this to be full of jane austen goodness as well as fun romancey stuff but according to goodreads this is my lowest rated i think it was still like a three star so still not terrible we'll see what i think pick number two this one is all right read a book with a tag line the next one is to read a book with a tag line in it which helped a lot because i was able to fit a book that i want to read for the readathon and here and that is malice by heather walter as you can see it says once upon a time there was a villain i'm a little scared because this is quite a large book and there's no audiobook to help me out however the font is relatively large so i'm hoping this will i'll just be sucked up in this one but this is kind of a reimagining of the sleeping beauty tale but as if sleeping beauty and the maleficent evil character were to fall in love maybe uh but it's set in this world where our main character the kind of like maleficent i believe her name is alice she is what's called a dark graceling and there is a curse that set on the ruling family's line that basically says if you haven't fallen in love or kissed you know your soulmate by i believe it is your 18th birthday you go and die so our main character and the aurora character create this kind of maybe not a bargain but they decide that aurora's got one year left before she you know this curse is gonna come get her and so they both decide that okay you know finding your true love is not working let's see because i'm a dark grace i'm not the one who said it on you but like my ancestors are if i can help you break said curse but i think they fall for each other and i'm very excited i hauled this recently and i've been dying to pick it up so this is the month am i going to regret putting this big old thing on my tbr that is a very big possibility pick number three right oh read a paperback the next one is to read a paperback super easy very happy i'm gonna fit a manga in and that is the first volume of which hat adeliere i've heard incredible things about this manga when i mentioned that i hauled this y'all were like this is great so i'm very excited about it um it does follow our main character coco who discovers that the world she lives in is thought that you have to like born with magic but actually she thinks there's a way that she can learn how to kind learn how to be a magician and so she i think she does find a witch um who helps her out so this just sounds super fun and cute i've heard it's a really good way to get into mangas i haven't read pretty sure i haven't read any mangas that are not like contemporary since this is a fantasy this is my first step into fantasy manga and i'm excited number four here we go come on oh read a historical fiction the next one is to read historical fiction which is fantastic because i can fit in my buddy read with my lovely friend taylor i mean that is seduction of a highland last by maya banks so we did this very much out of order this is the second and the macabre trilogy we read the first one two months ago and the third one last month so we're reading this one now we've been reading maya banks books for the past few months it's been incredible we both felt like there was a few things missing when we read the third book like just a couple questions we had nothing that like really hindered the plot very much for the third book so i think you can read them out of order but there were some things that we were like they mentioned this thing i wonder what that thing is and so we're gonna go into this one but this trilogy basically follows three brothers three macabre brothers the first one follows the layered and then this one and the next the third one both follow the other brothers i don't remember which one it is but this is one of the brothers and he has been betrothed to this other clan's laird's daughter um but then he falls for another woman and so we get to see that story but i'm very excited to get back into my bank's books i love reading these books with taylor because we're so in sync about what we think about these books and it's just a lot of fun to like read them with someone so i'm excited to get into this one number five here we go come on this is oh buddy read the next pick is body read which is great because i have yet another buddy read i need to fit in and that is going to become tumbling down by seanan mcguire i have been reading this series the wayward children's series with my lovely friend teresa over at theresa love we'll leave her linked down below of course but this is the fifth one yes the fifth one in the series and this basically follows a bunch of kids who have gone through portals to other worlds and these other worlds feel like they're home but for some reason or another they have come back to like the real world i hate saying real world but like you know what i mean our world and they are on this home for wayward children where like their parents think that they have all come here to get like treatment but the woman who owns this house has been through a door and so she's there to like help them finds their doors basically um and some books take place at the home some books take place at different worlds this one is a mixture this follows my favorite character so i'm so excited but the story of jack and jill who we are introduced to in the first one and in the second book we learned their backstory as to like why they came to the home their backstory on their worlds that kind of thing this takes place after the events of the first book where they have been in their world and now they have been kicked back to our world um and so i think is a mixture of portal worlds as well as the home but i love jack she is my favorite character in the series so anything surrounding her i'm excited about i've been dying to get my hands on this book and actually start it so very excited i feel like a lot of these stories you can read out of sync however this one i feel like you definitely needed to read as a first one before you get into it because it straight up spoils the first one but i i'm very excited number six which is oh read a book as part of a series the next is to read a book that's part of a series i don't know how i've waited this long to read this but i'm going to be picking up akamath a court of mist and fury this is the second in the acotar series i read the first one last month i definitely have a vlog it's quite long i apologize of all my spoilery thoughts if you want to know that one um but i just i need to get into the second one so i had to put it on this list it is not small but i do have an audio book and also like i plowed through the first one so i'm expecting to plow through this one as well i've heard this is a lot of people's favorites so i'm very excited to see some of the things that i know are gonna happen in this book i'm excited to see how they play out i'm just very excited i just i just need to start uh so yeah that's i'm gonna do it um if you guys want another spoilery vlog of this i'm thinking about doing one for at least to this trilogy the avatar trilogy uh let me know but uh i'm excited number seven we go read a book that was gifted the next one is to read a book that has been a gifted to you and i have quite a few but for some reason my brain blanked on them and of course now that i'm looking at my shelves i'm seeing a lot more but this is the one that came to mind so i'm very excited to pick it up and that is intercepted by alexa martin i got this for christmas from my husband this is i believe an adult romance so this follows army after marley who is the perfect girlfriend um of an nfl star for 10 years and then he breaks up with her because they break up because she finds out that he's been cheating and so she's like i'm done but then she falls for a quarterback so it sounds like it's gonna be fun romance goodness but also like it has a football twist which i'm very nervous about because like i don't do sports and books but it was a gift i do like romance so that's kind of outweighing the sports aspect of this and uh you know maybe i'll love it you never know so i'm excited to give this one a try and number eight here we go read a book with a poc author and my very last pick number eight is to read a book by a poc author so i'm so excited to get this one in and that is take a hint danny brown by talia hibbert i read get a live play round last month and utterly loved it was it last month or was it the month before i don't remember i read it recently and adored it it's my new favorite like i love this author her writing is incredible i needed to get my hands on the other two in the series so i now have and i can't wait to dive in i know a lot of people say that danny brown's story is their favorite of the trilogy so i'm excited to see what this one's gonna be like because i loved the first one so much that like either this one is going to be the slightest bit of a letdown or it's going to be the best thing i've ever read because the first one was so good so this trilogy follows three sisters each book follows a different sister this one is danny brown i don't know if she's the oldest the middle i really don't know as far as like ages go but she has been through a breakup that didn't end super well she's decided she just you know wants a fling whatever um and so she has her eyes set on the sky from work after a fire drill goes horribly wrong and he has to save her and it goes viral so basically they create this bargain of she's trying to break down his walls and then he is using her relationship to like help out a charity he owns or runs or something like that and uh it's their story i'm excited uh the first one had a bargain in it as well i'm excited to see the bargain with this one and uh i'm ready for this team i'm ready for all of the steam hello editing kelsey here i am here to tell you that i did not finish the book that i needed to finish and therefore we'll need to take a punishment pick this month so uh let me get set up real quick and uh and we'll we'll see what comes up number nine my punishment pick of the month is this one and that is to read a book released in the last five years so the prompt was to pick a book that was released in the last five years which is perfect because i have a last minute addition onto this tbr and that is the evil queen by jenna show offer i got this book and my online book buying video that i did recently because it looked really good and i saw it on my friend at taylor's channel and so uh she has since reached out to me and we're gonna buddy read this in june as well so i'm very very excited about this this is a retelling of the story of the evil queen from snow white don't know much more than that but i'm excited so that is a look at the actual tbr but now i'm going to quickly go through the i think i said there was 15 i think there's actually 13 prompts that i'm planning on reading this month i was able to fit almost everything from my tbr basket onto this list but there are a few extras like for example i couldn't get jane austen's marriage manual on there and there's also a couple of extras in this list that i'm planning on reading am i gonna hate myself by the end of this that is a very big possibility but we're gonna try it anyway the very first prompt is a book that reminds you of the pride flag so i don't actually have this book yet i am going to order it but that is rick by alex gino this is a companion sequel to george by the same author this is a beautiful children's book that i read the end of last year i read read george and this is i think a couple of years later following if i remember correctly i believe it follows the bully from the first book and him kind of figuring out his sexuality and kind of what he identifies as alexion is an incredible writer i needed to fit this in i've been dying to pick it up so this is perfect and also like obviously can you tell by the very very pride ness of this cover so yeah the next one is to reread a favorite i'm not planning on doing this unless i have time in the month i don't know what i'm going to read but i'm not worrying about this prompt the next one is to read a five-star prediction so i'm going to maybe pick up aqua war now you might be questioning kelsey didn't you put aka math on this you would be correct this is also quite large akka math might sit in for this prompt if i don't get around to the third one but i have a feeling i'm going to love it so much that i'm just going to immediately like want to get into this one now they're thick but again i have the audiobooks for them so i'm not that worried but maybe i might do a spoilery vlog for this one let me know i am planning on vlogging the entire month of june so like you will see these regardless but if you want like in-depth spoiler thoughts let me know um but i'm gonna see if i can crack on with the f like with this series and uh i'm excited the next one is an author's debut and i'm gonna be picking up malice for that one next one is out of your comfort zone i'm going to be picking up the first volume of witch hat adelie for this one because it's a manga i'm still trying to figure out if i like mangas or not and also it's my first fantasy manga so lots of things with this one hello ed and kelsey here yet again because the next prompt is going to be a book that you hold within the last year so i'm actually going to be using the evil queen for this one back to regular kelsey the next one is an indie or self-published book and i've realized that there are so many self pub books that like i am so excited about that i want to get my hands on but then like i won't have any room on my shelves so i'm going to pick one that i've had on my shelf for all of 2021 i believe i believe i got it in january and that is a deal with the elf king by elise kova this is a retelling kind of based on the stories of beauty and the beast as well as hades and persephone but it takes place in this world where like 3 000 years ago there was a huge fight between the elves and the humans and then they kind of created this treaty and every year a few years i don't know elves come and claim one of the women as their wives and this year the elf king comes to claim our main character whose name is luella and she thinks she's safe but then the actual king comes to pick her out and so i'm excited about this because it looks like it's going to be glorious face steamy goodness and this cover is stunning so i'm very excited also self indie published gotta support them somehow the next one is a book with poc representation i'm going to do intercepted for that one the next one is to do a poll so i put a poll on twitter because i wanted to get another manga in so i put a poll of four mangas that i'm very interested in and as of right now there's still about a day left in the poll so i don't know the exact answer but these are the four that i put on so we've got volume one of wataki we have volume one of a dreaming sun volume one of spy family and then seven days as well which is a full on just one volume manga um and i think as of right now the winners are either gonna be spy family or dreaming sun i think when i looked last spy family is just slightly in the lead so i think this one's the one that's gonna win but i'll put the poll here where it's finalized so you can see what's actually gonna win but uh it'll be one of these i'm sure the next one is just to do a tbr game prompt which is perfect um so i'm going to be doing my buddy read with taylor which is seduction of a highland last by maya banks next one is buddy read so gonna use calm tumbling down yet again because buddy read body read makes sense to me the next one is a mental health or disability representation so for this one i'm going to go with take a hint danny brown um this author is incredible at putting trigger warnings at the beginning of all of the books so this one says please be aware the story involves sensitive topics such as dealing with the death of a close family member and handling general anxiety disorder um so our main character i believe it's gonna be danny but i'm not entirely sure one of our characters is gonna have anxiety the next one is a bookish creator's favorite so what maddie has done is taken all of the hosts of this read-a-thon and put like their favorites in a graphic however this is not in one of the graphics but i know it's a favorite of one of the hosts which is ashley from follow through fiction so i'm gonna count it anyway because like even though it's not on that graphic i know for a fact this is a favorite and that is the ren hunt by mary watson i just hauled this recently and my comebook online shopping with me so you can go check that video i love this uk cover it's stunning but it follows irish mythology i mean it follows our main character ren who is part of this game where every winter she's chased through the woods and each year it gets more dangerous i think and it's supposed to be this game but actually turns like deadly very quickly no idea what it's really about but the cover of stunning actually loves it we have very similar tastes in books this is my pick the next one is to pick a book with your team color in it i am doing the like drama queens i believe is what it's called but it's the one that both maddie and ashley for boxing fiction are posting together it's kind of the like fantasy fantastical things that are not high fantasy books for the color it's going to be a green color so for this one i'm gonna go with ekamath yes i have both of these big old books on my tbr i'm crazy i've accepted that but our color is like a green so like even though this is minty green i'm counting it and the very last one is a little confusing it's the last letter of the previous book that you read is the first letter of this book this took a lot of figuring out i guess is the best way to describe it and uh i've decided that if i read this book immediately after i finish seduction of a highland last this will work and i'm going to read spy family i don't know if this is going to be picks the poll or not i think it will but even if it's not it's another short manga so like i just get to add another manga on top of it but highland lass ends with an s this starts with an s i may change my mind this is a very like i feel like mood reader type of prompt but uh this is my plan okay so here's my dvr from uh what month will be in june i'm crazy anyway um stay tuned i'll be vlogging all of june um for said read-a-thon but i hope you enjoyed this video let me know if you were also participating in whatever-a-thon down below i'd love to know what some of the books that you're planning on or reading are are you going full-on full competitive mode or are you kind of just like going with the flow let me know i'm kind of in between like i have a plan to go full-on but like if i don't reach said plan i'll be okay we'll see what happens i'm going to be vlogging all of june so stay tuned for those vlogs coming out every single week to see how i'm doing or if i'm stressing because i think the answer is going to be yes but if you liked this video and i very much hope that you did don't forget to give it a big thumbs up and subscribe down below if you want to be part of this awesome growing family i've also got all my social media as well as other fun bookish links in the description so don't forget to go check all of those out and i'll see you guys in my
