just good it seemed like every week to see people you've never seen before that are coming in and it's just good and we pray that god when in due time touch those hearts that those people that's what it is that they must do in order to obtain salvation for themselves because at the end of the day our souls need to be saved and at the end of the day all of us have a god that we're going to have to stand for one of these days and guess what you may not have to account for anything else but one day you're going to have to account to god for the deeds for the action for the things that we've done in this life and i don't know about you but i want to be in a place where i can hear him say well you know what well done uh thou good and our faithful servant amen um on this afternoon we'll be in numbers chapter number 33. i will be mentioning a couple of different passages from numbers but this is what we'll be basing out of today in numbers chapter 33 verses one and two um we know we'll consider uh continuing this series of lessons that we've been doing um on sunday evenings and we've made it through genesis and what was after that all right what was after that all right now we had no was they bad amen now we at doubles come a long way in a short period of time hey man look i i know the children of israel wish it would have took them a shorter time for us to get through it as it was for them amen but we're here now we're here now number chapter 33 verses one and two as i journey through this land singing as i go i'm pointing souls to calvary and to the crimson flow will lend me the aerospeed my soul in front without with him but my law he leads me on and through him i must and we'll sing it now i want to see him and look upon his faith and you know i'm there to sing forever [Applause] of his saving grace on the streets of glory let me lift the mambo and you know that cares all i'll be home at last and then the two and we'll sing it now i want to see him and look upon his faith and you know i'm there to sing forever office saving of his saving grace on the streets of glory let me lift up my more and you know that cares all i'll be home at last and ever [Music] amen amen number chapter 33 verses 1 and 2 and the bible says these are the journeys of the sons of israel by which they came out of the land of egypt by their armies under the leadership of moses and aaron moses recorded their starting places according to their journeys by the command of the lord notice with everything that you see moses doing he doesn't do it by his own command but he does it by the command of the lord and these are their journeys according to their starting places and then it goes on to list various places that they visited but we're beginning our journey in the book of numbers and there are many interesting things that you'll find in this book and there's several lessons that we can learn from the book of numbers and first we'll take a look at the name of the book actually it has two names and first we'll start at the one that we already know which is numbers and this comes from the greek and it's a fitting title of the book because a census is done or rather a numbering accounting of the people is done in chapter one and then following at mount sinai and then another is taken when they reach moab over in chapter number 26 and in the hebrew bible the book is named in the wilderness i think that's a fitting title because they spent most of their time out there in the wilderness and again this is another good name for it and well it says now moses wrote down the starting points of their journeys as the lord commanded him and we go to chapter 14 verses 22 and 23 it says because all these men who had seen my glory and the signs which i did in egypt and in the wilderness and have put me to the test now these ten times and have not heeded my voice you would think after they had 10 opportunities that something would have clicked in somebody's mind somebody would have tried to grab a hold of this stuff but he said and they have not heeded my voice they certainly shall not see the land which i swore to their fathers nor shall any of those that rejected me see it now you know this is really sad in chapter number 14. the children of israel has seen y'all you know not like us they seen firsthand the power of god and how he dealt with the egyptian army i mean drowning folk in the same place where you just walked through with ease i mean and god was ready to give the children of israel the land that was flowing with milk and honey less than a month after they departed from mount sinai and they sent out 12 spies you remember that and it said that they had 10 that came back and what did they say they said there's no way we cannot do this there is no way that we are able to defeat them and why because of their unbelief all those 20 years and older would not have been allowed to enter the promised land except for who caleb and joshua who were the only two spies who came back and basically said you know what let's go and take the land that is flowing with milk and honey and why are we gonna be able to do that he said because god is on our side and let me tell y'all you always need somebody around you that even when you don't know how this thing is going to work out you know well man i don't know how it's going to work out either but i know that the guard we serve would not have brought us here and he's not going to deliver us out of it so i know after a while god is going to do something about this thing and then in verse number 34 it says according to the number of the days in which you spied out the land 40 days god says for each day you shall bear your guilt one year that's a tough sentence man that's a hard sentence he said you shall bear your gift for one year namely 40 years and you shall know my rejection god said you know what y'all ain't gonna be worried or wondering why y'all out here you're gonna know why you're out here and that is because y'all have not heeded my voice you have not done what it is that i have commanded you and don't we find ourselves like that sometimes well we're wondering man why is this going on why is this happening and we recognize hey god is saying you know what you haven't been doing what it is that i've been trying to get you to do so i had to get you out here by yourself maybe in a wilderness experience in order for you to get what it is that i'm trying to tell you so i think the main lesson that the book of numbers teaches us is that unbelief church and disobedience will keep us from being who it is that god has called us to be and it will keep us from having the hope of heaven now notice what the hebrew writer says let's go to hebrews chapter number three and um beginning at verse number seven it says therefore as the holy spirit says today if you will hear his voice do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion in the day of trial in the wilderness where your fathers tested me tried me and saw my words for 40 years therefore i was angry with that generation and said they always go astray in their hearts and they have not known my ways so i swore in my wrath they shall not enter my rest beware brethren least there be any of any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living god but exhort one another daily while it is called today least any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin for we have become partakers of christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end while it is said today if you will hear his voice do not harden your hearts as in rebellion for who having heard rebelled indeed was it not all who came out of egypt led by moses now with whom he was angry forty years was it not with those who sinned whose corpse fell in the wilderness and whom did he swear that they were not either interest but to those who did not obey so we see that they could not enter in because of what unbelief you see what unbelief can do for you i i i don't know of any of us here trying to find us a property with some milk and honey on it but you know i mean these individuals they weren't able to get there simply because they were not believing god they were not trusting god and i don't know about y'all but after he then brought me through a river i believe i believed god and after he got frogs hipping and hopping and jumping everywhere i think i believed god after he then took the water and turned it in the blood i think i'd believe god after every firstborn child of the family that did not have the blood over their doorpost after god killed all of those people i would think i would believe god and we think that that sounds you know what hey why wouldn't they believe but look at ourselves look at ourselves how many times have we found ourselves and you know god you believe in god you have faith in god you've seen god do stuff for you before you have prayed and god has answered prayers but then you find yourself in a place where you're dealing with unbelief what you're struggling with your faith what doubt has crept in and let me tell you child of god greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world there's nothing in this world that we face that our god cannot fix he is great and greatly to be praised so unbelief unbelief is a dangerous thing and and we can learn a lesson from the book of numbers and that is to beware of unbelief and beware not only of unbelief but beware of disobeying the will of god we always want to be in the will of god not against the will of god and because of the children of israel's unbelief listen at this an 11-day trip to canaan turned into a 40-year journey 11 days y'all turned into 40 years in which listen only their children and grandchildren would get to finish so they just spent the time out there wondering and someone wasn't even going to be able to get there but he says that your children and your grandchildren are going to fail and again i want to point out the importance for us as christians to study the old testament because there are a lot of references in the new testament scripture to the old testament scripture for example let's look at what paul writes let's go to first corinthians chapter 10 beginning at verse number one first corinthians chapter 10 beginning at verse number one paul writes like this he says moreover brethren i do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud all passed through the sea all were baptized into moses in the cloud and in the sea all ate the same spiritual food all drank the same spiritual drink for they drank of that spiritual rock that followed them and that rock was christ but with most of them god was not well pleased for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness now these things became our examples to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted and do not become idolaters as some of them were as it is written the people sat down to eat and drink and they rose up to play nor let us commit sexual immorality as some of them did and in one day 23 000 failed nor let us tempt christ as some of them also tempted and we're destroyed by serpents nor complain we do a lot of that and nor complain and some of them also complain and we're destroyed by the destroyer now all these things happened to them as examples and they were written for our admonition upon whom the end of the ages has come therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed unless he falls now church as christians we got to always not sometimes we got to always be careful that we don't stop paying attention to how we are living our lives for god some may become confident and when you become too confident you think there's no way that you can sit against god i do everything right there's no way that i can fall there's no way that i can stumble i cross all my teeth i doubt all my i got it all right sound good don't it people who get to this point are not really much different than the children of israel why do i say that if you recall they made a promise to god that they would obey his commands and not sin against him and what did they do not obey his commands and they said against him and we see god's mercy and god's grace even with the children of israel in the fact that he allowed them to mess up ten times before he borrowed them from canaan today we live under a system of grace but we must be careful not to abuse god's grace because we can get to a point to where we can fall from grace we can fall from grace church and well in chapter number six we learn about something where it calls the nazarite vow you heard of that the nazarite vow and how you remember both samson and john the baptist were nazirites and one of the sins that led israel to that destruction was the leading astray of the nazarites we read about that in amos chapter 2 verse 11 and 12 he said i raised up some of your sons as prophets and some of your young men as nazarites it is not so old children of israel says the lord but you gave the nazarites wine to drink and command it to prophets saying do not prophesy and then we got the grasshopper complex that we read about him in numbers chapter 13 verse number 33 it says there we saw giants which were the descendants of anac came from giants and we were like grasshoppers they say in our own sight and we were in their sight now you see this is what the ten spies told the children of israel and they believed it let me show me the giants i want to see them show me somebody show me that grandson and they felt insecure and they didn't see any possible way that they could do anything with such big people we're such huge people and what you will notice is that the spies felt like they were grasshoppers but what they did not know was that the canaanites were afraid of the children of israel and we learned this from joshua and joshua chapter two beginning at verse number eight it says now before they lay down she came up to them on the roof and said to the men i know that the lord has given you the land that the terror of you has fallen on us and that all the inhabitants of the land are faint-hearted because of you for we have heard how the lord dried up the water of the red sea for you when you came out of egypt and what you did to the two kings of the amorites who were on the other side of the jordan cehan and ark whom you utterly destroyed and as soon as we heard these things our hearts melted neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you for the lord your god he is god in heaven above and on the earth beneath what it is these folk had these people shaking in their boots but they were afraid of them they were afraid to go over and get what it was that god has promised them because when they looked over what they saw looked like they couldn't win but the people they didn't even know the people say you know what man we might be big but guess what we are afraid of y'all because we heard how your god drowned them folk in the red see we heard how your god did this and how your god did that any good to know that we got a guard that's fighting for us a god that goes before us that before we get to a trap we already have a god that's standing right there making sure that it's not going to be something that's going to take us out so that he can remain true to his word where he said he never put more on us than we are able to bear the hebrew writer says therefore do not cast away your confidence which has a great reward we're going to get a reward for our confidence church with god on our side we should be the most confident people in the world who can be more confident other than somebody that has the lord god almighty on their side the lord god almighty fighting for them she said like this in philippians chapter 4 not that i speak in regard to need for i have learned in whatever state i am to be content i know how to be a base i know how to be about everywhere and all things i have learned both to be full and to be hungry both to abound and to suffer need i can do some things a couple of things i can do some things all things everything through jesus christ that gives me the strength and another passage i don't know about you that really encourages me about god and what jesus does for us is found in hebrews chapter 4 verses 14 through 16. he said see him then that we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens jesus the son of god let us hold fast our confession for we do not have a high priest that cannot sympathize without look at god know what you're going through he cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points some verses say all manners tempted just as we are but he did it without sin he said let us therefore now because of that come boldly before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in the time of our need any of y'all ever been in need of god's grace and in need of god's mercy every second every minute every hour of the day we are in need of god's grace and we are in need of god's mercy and it's so good to know church that when we wake up in the morning that we have a god that we have a savior we have a lord in jesus that can relate to us that can understand the things that we're going through and the things that we're dealing with and guess what he knows all about your troubles and we can truly draw strength from jesus and from his word so let us do our best not to become grasshoppers in our own eyes amen amen and i love this in numbers chapter 6 verses 24 through 27 for our final text it says the lord bless you and keep you the lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you the lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace so they shall put my name on the children of israel and i will bless them god is a good god church and it's so good to know that he wants to bless us that he wants to do good for us but guess what we got to be ready to do good for god and we got to be ready to live for him i'm sure i'm sure we would have been just like some of the people with the children of israel i know i'm tired of eating this stuff we've been out here all this time we should have been there by now why we got why we got man we passed that mound of dirt yesterday i left a stick right there i know i saw that last week we already been through this i'm tired of hearing moses those both talking about this aaron talking about this time about that i will we going to get there are we there yet are we done where are we going to do this that would have been some of us especially a lot of us sometimes have faith for overnight situations when we pack an overnight bag but it's a different thing when you're having to deal with that thing for a long extended period of time and i'm sure some of those folks are like you know what okay god on day one all right i'm gonna trust you day two all right you on the way after about a week then pass okay what's going on now live man it's hot out here my shoes they got hole what what's going on what are we gonna do and you saw because of their unbelief because they could not trust god so god said you know what i did all this stuff out of y'all have been crying to me for all these years i came and got you i brought you out i heard your cries by reason of your task masters i delivered you i've done all of these great miracles to show people that i was on your side and y'all still not gonna trust me you ain't gonna go into the promised land i know how to fix that i'm gonna leave y'all right out of here you're going to die and you're not going to enter into the promised land because they did not believe god because they did not trust him let us not allow unbelief to cause us to miss heaven let us not allow the doubts and things that arise let me tell you i don't care how hard times get i don't care how rough things may get for you specifically individually god is still good god is still worthy to be praised and at the end of the day no matter what we're dealing with no matter what we are going through we ought to be willing to give god the glory and thank him because it is him that brought each and every single one of us out of our own egypt he brought us out of our own bondage place and it has us where we are right now so every opportunity that we get we ought to be grateful for that and thankful for that and be willing to at the best of our ability to be obedient to what it is that god has called us to do and when we find ourselves in areas not able to be obedient we feel or not able to be able to keep the commandments that god has given us pray believe in god trust in him you trust you read his word you study his word and i trust you god will give you the strength to be able to make it through those things that sometimes you think are just a little bit too hard for you to bear so i thank all of you for uh listening on tonight with um at this time maybe there's someone that is in our midst maybe there's someone um that is
