This episode is the reason I love the show and love Joe. He plays devil's advocate very well without being closed minded. I listened to the Peter Schiff episode recently and Joe was in prime devil's advocate mode throughout that show but recently I heard him repeat some of the stuff Schiff taught him verbatim as fact in a recent episode.
So like I said in another comment, Gavin is basically hunkering down in a position and publicly performing mental masturbation, getting off by getting a reaction. Joe is using the podcast to develop a well rounded worldview. Whether it is a string of hunting guests or recently the string of Milo, Crowder and now Gavin...obviously the anti-feminism thing fascinates him and as a viewer you can go along for the ride and watch him learn to articulate how he thinks about this subject in real time.
Its a great characteristic to be able to be a blank slate while at the same time aggressively questioning concepts that don't intuitively make sense to you for whatever reason.
Never heard of a "pro drunk driving" advocate before.
He is the ULTIMATE hipster. Raised religious. Turned atheist when everyone around him was religious. Then turned back religious when he realized everyone was an atheist.
"I don't pause for queefs."
Their numbers on teacher hourly wages didn't make any sense. Gavin's may have been high, but the same site has numbers on average salary for teachers that at least leaned more his way (though still not nearly that high)
Payscale says elementary school teachers make $15.91 per hour but $42,570 per year. That means they work about 2,675 hours per year. That would be 51 hour weeks year round. Factor in that they have at least some portion of the summer off and it gets even crazier.
This is a great interview and gavin is kinda cunty, but joe arguing with the infinite monkey theory is cringe inducing.
I dislike this guy for the same reasons I dislike Milo the gay republican. As Rogan pointed out, he muddies the water with disguising his trolls as legitimate arguments and there is almost no qualitative difference between the two. You can't take anything the guy says seriously, yet he wants you to take some of the things he says seriously. I find that exhausting and annoying.
This whole podcast was an emotional rollercoaster. I went from wanting to slap Gavin in the face, to finding his trolly-ness hilarious, to wanting to slap Joe because he let Gavin get away with something, to wanting to choke Gavin, all the way to finally respecting Gavin for being so committed to what he believes and being a joker at the same time.
Can't wait to hear this. I don't agree with all of Gavins opinions but I find him to be a entertaining and satirical wise-ass.
