this morning as I was preparing to teach I was planning to teach in our series that we've been doing on the wonderful types and shadows of the presence of God in the story of Exodus and how God used Israel to teach us about his own presence and his desire to live in and among us and as I was studying along I kept running into these three very important people in the story and the Spirit of God just kind of spoke to me and said you know they were remarkable because they had an amazing mother and so I just thought would you know who was Moses's mother and I went back and you know I could I couldn't remember so today I'm going to teach you a message that just came hot off the press from the Lord for you for today it's not so much plan to teach it just literally came from the Lord for me to share with you about a person that you probably never heard their name and yet they're one of the most important women in the history of the world and one of the most important women in the Bible and that woman's name was Jack Abed Jack Abed did you know Moses's mom was named Jack Abed and she didn't just raise Moses she raised three type-a personalities who together as a team were unstoppable and because of the kids she raised they gave birth to a nation and it's amazing what God can do through one woman who's willing to let God use her so let's take a look at this amazing story this woman named Jackie bed or Yaakov ed as you would say it in Hebrew you got to spit a little bit yeah of it the bees and the bees are little interesting in Hebrew so we spell it jakka bed it's probably pronounced Yaakov a anyway it's kind of a tough name isn't it Jack a bed this is a tough woman now in the Bible there are many women we can celebrate and God's book tells the story of these men and women as well who were anointed some of them who are leaders devoted husbands and wives and many of these women extraordinary moms but today I want to talk to you about this one woman whose life is often forgotten as so many woman's are you know sometimes a woman makes a humongous tremendous impact on the entire world because not because even of what she did in her own career which is fine if she has a career and she makes an impact but because of the one thing that a woman can provide that no man can provide and that is motherhood it's often these unsung heroes is women who take the responsibility of giving birth to a new life and then nurturing that life to such an extent that that boy that girl those children grow up to become world changers very often great families that change the world came from great moms great moms and I'm going to talk to you about this one mother because of the incredible result that her parenting had and we're going to learn some keys about the greatness of this woman Jacques Abed first of all it's interesting that as we read her story in the book of Exodus we don't even have her name and Moses doesn't even mention her name directly in the book of Exodus we find out about her name much later in fact we can kind of get the the basic summary the bio from numbers 2659 and numbers 2659 says this the name of AMRAAMs wife was Jacques Abed the daughter of Levi who was born to Levi in Egypt and to Omron she bore Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam a very simple summary of a woman and really she's defined in this particular instance by who she came from and who she was married to and who came from her and so often in life women in history had been defined by well where they fit in genealogies and often their actual contributions and how they creates legacies is neglected but the Bible doesn't neglect Xhaka bed though she's not called by name her story is powerful and it will speak to us today so I want you to open your Bible to Exodus and chapter 2 I'm sorry Exodus chapter 1 and we're going to get the back story of this woman and this young family and we're going to find that it was not an easy life in Exodus chapter 1 we find that there was a period of time in the history of Israel where the Jewish people who had originally moved to Egypt because it was well it was a influential wealthy and the prospering Empire four hundred years before the descendants of Abraham had just kind of settled down there and it became comfortable and because one of the descendants of Abraham Joseph was second-in-command to Pharaoh they got special favour and treatment so they just stayed and prospered but the Bible tells us there came a point where Joseph passed on and the children of Israel continued to live among the Egyptians as foreign nationals and they became nervous the Egyptians that is you know it's amazing a majority culture likes diversity until there's more than fifteen or twenty percent of the minority culture present and then they start to feel like hey there's too many of them around here and that's exactly what happened it kicked up their prejudice and we see that Satan use this to try to bring destruction to the descendants of Abraham it says in verse eight of Exodus one eventually a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph for what he had done and he said to his people look the people of Israel now outnumber us and are stronger than we are now historically that was not true the Egyptians were probably 10 times more numerous than the Hebrews at least but as I said prejudice tends to extenuate and exaggerated things and so they were exaggerating to create a fearful environment of these foreigners among them and so in verse 10 they said we must make a plan to keep them from growing even more make sure that your plans are not planning against the plan of God because they will fail he said if we don't and if war breaks out they will join our enemies and fight against us and they will escape from the country so in other words we want them here don't want them here and powerful you'll see why verse 11 so the Egyptians made the Israelites their slaves now this this language is very clear it wasn't indemnified slavery the kind of thing where you hire yourself out for a period of time there were different kinds of slavery in antiquity this was forced labor and it goes on to say they appointed notice brutal slave drivers over them hoping to wear them down with crushing labor notice a language they forced them to build the cities of Pithom or piped them and Rameses as supply centers for the king but the more the Egyptians oppress them the more the Israelites multiplied and spread and the more alarmed the Egyptians became I love that the devil tries to knock Christians down but you know very often when that real oppression comes it just serves to just increase and multiply what God is doing right now the enemy has tried to wipe out Christians in the Middle East it's a terrible reality there's been huge Christian genocide in the Middle East and what was once twenty to thirty percent Christian is now less than ten percent Christian but those Christians are spreading and I'm going to tell you something you watch and see every time God the enemy tries to wipe out God's people it just is like taking a taking a fan and put it or taking a pillow with feathers in it and throwing it off of a building it just spreads everywhere it just multiplies it feeds persecutions seeds faith and so it just caused the faith of the believers to increase now notice it goes on to say but the more it says in verse 13 so the Egyptians work the people of Israel without mercy they made their lives bitter forcing them to mix mortar and make bricks and do all the work in the fields and they were ruthless in all their demands this was not an easy life this was a tough life and then it says in verse 15 the king of Egypt came up with another plan and he spoke to the Hebrew midwives and whom the name of one was ship romney a name of the other was Pula and he said when you do the duties of a midwife or a Hebrew woman and see them on their birth stools if it's a son that's then you shall kill him but if it's a daughter then she shall live but the midwives feared God and did not do the thing that the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the male children alive thank God for people that love life and will save them and in verse 18 it says so the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them why have you done this thing and saved the male children and the midwives said to Pharaoh because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women for their lively and give birth before the midwives come to them now there's one thought in reading the Hebrew comment sorry and this one thought is that they were kind of lying but to lie to a liar isn't such a big lie right especially when they're planning to kill so that was kind of an honourable act evident there is this other idea that there was truth in it because we read that they were multiplying so quickly it was overwhelming the Egyptians because when God's blessing is on you you multiply one of the signs of the blessing of God off of the Bible are children the Bible said children are a heritage from the Lord and the fruit of the womb is his reward our culture today almost acts like children are a curse something we should avoid as long as possible we have a generation of young people that want to stay teenagers into their 30s and avoid having children or if they have children they don't want to take responsibility for them we have a generations of moms and grand moms and dads that are doing second duty raising our kids kids because our kids don't want to be dads and moms and adults I'm not saying you but you might know somebody like this and don't get so mad at our kids because we raised those spoiled indulgent brats we raised them that way we gave them too much God has a way of bringing it full circle one way or the other every generation learns the responsibility of life one way or the other and so at any rate these these families were growing they were blessed they were multiplying quickly and so because the midwives honored the Lord he provided houses for them these women got married and they had families that's the thing when you do good things for God God blesses you and so I want you to notice it says in chapter 2 and verse 1 the very next verse about this time a man and a woman from the tribe of Levi got married notice they're not even mentioned jakka bet is we've seen her name is only given to us later we don't even know her name but we know that it was a couple a Jewish couple they were slave couple and they got married what does that tell us about Jacque Abed listen number one Jacque Abed lived in a culture of injustice poverty and fear but she had faith for a family and it's very easy for us today I talked to a lot of young people who say listen the world is so bad culture is so bad there's so much evil out there the drugs that the violence and let's face it you know no matter who you are this world is a little out of control right now it is become a scary place there was a time where you can send your kids out to ride their bikes and you wouldn't have to worry about somebody abducting them and killing them or raping them or selling them that those days unfortunately have passed in many neighborhoods in this country and in most places around the world we have to watch over our kids carefully but I want you to notice that even though it was a difficult time and it was a dark time they could easily have said you know why get married what's the purpose of that why had children were slaves why bring up another child in this generation all of those things can be very reasonable thoughts but I want you to know God has called people who know him who aren't covenant with him to find their life partners to come together and to raise kids why why does God want us to have families and raise kids in a difficult and dark generation because the only way to deal with the darkness is to raise up strong men and women and children of faith because listen greater is He that is in the Christian family than he that is in the world the God that is in your kid is greater and if you train them right and you raise them right they're not they may go a little to the right of the left but you have the opportunity to raise world changers that are getting in front of their culture and call them to repentance hallelujah they had faith even in a dark time to start a family now this is important we know that they had three kids the first child was Miriam the second child was Aaron and then the baby came along you see Jacques Abed had two children but she knew her family wasn't complete and so Jacque Abed had a third son and she had this third son in the midst of the season where the Egyptian midwives were commanded to till the Hebrew boys it was dangerous yet she knew she wasn't done sometimes it doesn't make sense to have another child it doesn't make sense to move forward with the family but you know something if in your heart God puts a child in your heart if God puts a husband or a wife in our it's better to go forward with that and do it in the will of God because God will bless you some people we find today they find their life partner I'm going to say some gentlemen you find a woman that is a good woman that makes you a better man that you want to you just know in your heart this is the woman I need to live this is a woman I need spent not not live with spend my life with I need to be in a covenant with you need to take that girl off the market you need to put a ring on it before you put anything else in her you need to put something on her that says you are not just my plaything you are my partner ladies if you want to be a plaything that's your business but God wants you to find a partner and a partner is a man is willing to control himself until he gets the real deal and ladies you need to be strong and hold out that's so old-fashioned I thought you were a real contemporary eunuch listen I'm telling you right now we get a generation of young people that very often are not being raised in ideal environments and we all have challenges this culture is difficult we know that but we have to reach for the ideal even as we deal with the realities that sometimes we don't we don't have the ideal God makes up the difference but we still need to hold God's ideal up there there's some I just feel like I'm supposed to say this or sometimes a couple and they know they're supposed to be together but they can't afford the dream wedding because weddings are so darn expensive and I get that one of my son's is about to get married and you know mark it's just expensive right but I'm gonna tell you something it is better for you if you know that's your life part it's better for you to start life together with a kind with a small ceremony we do this all the time in the light chapel with a couple of families and witnesses and you start your life together and you start it right and I want the dream ceremony with the veil I want to be bridezilla listen all that stuff that doesn't make it great a lot of couples start out with just a very small sermon justice of the peace they don't have a big great big party but you know it they'd also don't start out with a bunch of debt and they start their family together and God will provide for you what you need later if you're living with somebody and you have a baby you either need to make a commitment and get married and raise that children and love each other together or you need to separate and sir help her raise that baby and do it but but don't do the fake thing put a ring on it get into covenant bring God into that marriage and make it right I'm happily old-fashioned in that regard and not to make anybody feel bad not to make anybody feel bad no folks are in that situation but God wants you to have enough faith to start a real family and move forward now it says in verse 2 the woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son and she saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months everybody said the phrase special baby the word saw in the Hebrew is raaaah which means to do more than just see it it means to proceed it can mean to have a vision or to see the purpose of a thing to perceive not just what's there but what's behind there so she saw not just her baby's face she saw into him she had a vision for who he was she saw his destiny notice it says in your Bible it might say a beautiful child a fair child actually it's a very interesting Hebrew word that refers to a child who is with a very high and noble purpose and we find that in Hebrews 11 in the New Testament this woman Jacques Abed is mentioned and her husband notice it says in Hebrews 11 23 it was by faith that Moses parents that would be shocked Abed and her husband hid him for three months while he was born they saw that God had given them an unusual child and they were not afraid to disobey the king's command the word here in Greek unusual as sto sore Asti us and it means of the city urban elegant refined it's basically you've got to understand in those days there were people of the fields people of the farms and then there were some that were just born people of the city they were STS they had a highly there were folks that had the intellectual hunger they had perhaps the talents they might be entertainers they might be politicians they might be business leaders these are people people who were highly successful outside of farming communities would go to this city and when you said that somebody was an osteon you were saying they were kind of Metro they were kind of there was you know there was how many know there's City mice and there's country mice right and this in Moses was a city mouse he was destined for big things City things he was destined to do world shaking things and they saw that about him what I want you to see is that Jacque Abed perceived the destiny in her son and there's something about a mom you can look into her boy and she sees in that boy or that girl something far beyond a milk consuming breast biting pooping and burping and mucus distributing organism she sees this precious beautiful child with a destiny there's something about a mom's heart sometimes dads don't even see them I guess but I'm telling you when a mom sees a baby her baby there's this thing that goes to that child and she has hopes she has dreams often intuitions about how that child is going to grow and what it's going to become I'm gonna say to you moms don't let go of the dreams that you have for your children don't let go of them they may wander they may go Moses Moses you know she got him started in the right direction and he said he went 40 years for the wrong place the backside of desert because he got he screwed up he lost his temper and missed god but God got ahold of him on the other side of his world bled off a burning bush and brought him right back to the will of God don't give up on your kids it turn to somebody and say God not finished with my babies praise the Lord thank God for a mother's love jock Abed saw the destiny in her son and was willing to do all that's necessary to bring it forth that's the reason that we have very sacred dedication services more than most of angelical churches there's nothing wrong with calling all the moms up and praying the corporate blessing and that's fine but we follow more ancient tradition of dedication we have the parents come with the child we have a special sanctuary service after our main service we ask the family and friends to come we speak the word we make vows parents take vows to raise the children in the house of the Lord and then we lay hands on them and anoint them christen them of the oil which separate represents the Holy Spirit we anoint their minds and their eyes to see their ears to hear we anoint their mouths that it would sing the praises of God they're hard to be sensitive to people and we anoint their hands to produce the works of God their feet to be bounded the pads of the Lord and then we speak by this spirit o as the Lord leads us scriptures and even prophecies / children and it's an important element of what we do because we find it in the scripture and there's something about having children born and start right start right sometimes I've seen some of those children prophetic words I gave those children are grown now they come back and say you know we had the tape from when pastor u prophesied over us and we're and it's all come to pass this is happening it's helped me to make decisions that's why we believe in the anointing of the Holy Spirit and the power of families in the church committing and dedicating these precious lives to God amen it's more than just a biological entity that is a destiny that you gave birth to praise the Lord the third thing we learned about jakka bed is that she kept her son from real danger it says the woman became pregnant and she saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months there were threats against children she was supposed to not hide him but she was willing to like the unjust law of the time to watch over her kid now listen she wasn't a helicopter mom you know watching over every little thing but she was there making sure he didn't get exposed sometimes parents were so concerned that they're going to be we today's parents especially exposed to you know too much UV this or you know have a drop of gluten here or a touch of lactose there and God forbid you know I think sometimes parenting it's important to be strategic and careful but you can be overly I don't know there's nothing I can say that's not going to get me letters I'm just going to leave it there you kid I'm gonna say something there's real dangers for your kids and the real dangers aren't that they don't get the shoes that the other kids are getting in school the real dangers aren't that they don't get into the end of the sports programs that the other kids get here's the dangers they're friends you need to watch over who they associate with you need to watch over who's influencing them and I'm going to say something else this little screen right here is the gateway to the knowledge of good and evil there's a reason it's got an Apple bite on the back it is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and until you know how to filter out the evil do not put this in the hands of a child until you're certain they can't find the evil and if they demonstrate that they have a tendency to bite the Apple take the Apple away you got to love them enough to handle their I hate use you're so unjust everybody else does how many turns out everybody else all my friends have you ever heard that yeah you say well that's great for your friends but you live in this house and I can't wait to get out don't go oh no I ain't going nowhere honey you've given them food these kids especially they don't ever want to leave the house they just want to run it and you pay for everything that's all and all my junior high and senior high kids love me so much right now all right so what am I talking about [Music] she protected her child another point I got to give you a quick Jacque Abed used what she had to launch her son into his destiny she was poor she was a slave woman but the bible says that when she could no longer hide him she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with torn pitch and she put her baby in the basket and ladies among the reeds along the bank of the Nile she used what she could she knew that she couldn't protect him so she had to use her faith to launch him into his destiny and sometimes you have to release your child you have to use what you have to help make a way for your child to get where they need to go not only that Jacque Abed was strategic with her children you see the Bible says in verse 4 that the baby sister stood in a distance watching to see what would happen to him and soon Pharaoh's daughter came to bathe in the river and her attendants walked along the riverbank and when the princess saw the basket among the reeds she sent her maid to get it for her and when the princess opened it she saw the baby and the little boy was crying and she felt sorry for him this must be one of the Hebrew children she said and she knew that her father was killing Hebrew baby boys then the baby sister approached the princess should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you she asked how timely yes please do the princess replied so the girl went and called for Moses mother take this baby a nurse informing the princess told the baby's mother I will pay you for your help she got a job so the woman took her baby home a nursery I noticed this jakka bed was strategic with her children she was strategic she knew it was dangerous but you know what she also knew that the Egyptians believed the Nile was a God that gave life and she knew that if you put a baby in the Nile and she had her sister make sure kind of help it along to make sure it got to the princess's house she believed that princess would see that baby and her mother's heart would kick in and that she'd want to take care of that baby and she had Miriam already to say I know a woman who can nurse him and so mister teaching I'm not sure the Giacobbe ever knew all the way happened but she was I think she was guiding that she had an idea I love crafting women not not not too insidious manipulative but just crack she had a plan for her baby and for her family because of that God gave her a job and she was able to get paid to nurse her own baby now notice this this is the next point and it's so important Jacque Abed loved her son enough to let him go even when it felt like it was too soon in verse 10 it says later when the boy was older his mother brought him back to Pharaoh's daughter who adopted him as her own son and the princess named him Moses for she explained I lifted him from the water there is no instinct so strong as the instinct to hold on to our children especially if you have had a close and abiding relationship with your kids now there are those kids that when it's time for them to go you're like I felt like this needed to happen a long time ago sometimes it's like sixteen and you're like isn't it time yet to let them go but but you know a lot of times it's still an emotional difficult time when you release your kids and yet she was able to do it because of her faith in God and God's protection burner and the last principle is this Jacques Abed ended up raising three children who would go on to give birth to a nation Miriam she joined her brother years later 480 years later and became the first prophetess when they crossed the Red Sea Exodus 15 is all about her prophesying and dancing before the Lord and she became a leader and a prophetess to Israel she was a powerful anointed woman of God by Moses aside Moses cried out to the Lord and said how can I do this and God said I'm going to send your brother Aaron with you he'll talk for you so Aaron was the silver tongue middle kid who could talk his way out of anything he was the one who's got fits with Moses and he's the one that spoke to Pharaoh and when they came out and they got to that mountain of God we've been talking about God used all three of the Moses Aaron and he used Miriam to lead a nation into its destiny Aaron became the head of the priesthood which we'll talk about problem next week how God anointed him Miriam became a helper to her brother now there were moments where she kind of you know had some situations you know families had challenges sometimes especially when you got a bunch of type a leader type people and they're all wanting to lead you can have some challenges but you know what God anointed those three and those siblings turned a group of tortured slaves into a nation that would change the world and Jacque Abed Jacque Abed gets the credit praise the Lord let's thank God for good mothers praise the name of Jesus hallelujah Oh Lord you're looking for some men and women that are willing to be men and women you're looking father for some young people are willing to take responsibility to start families and raise kids and Lord take the adventure with you Lord to raise up a generation of young people and raise up families Lord that will be Lord they will be countered the culture they will be the children that will lead the people of God into the future father make us a congregation that gives birth to children who change destiny who changed the world in Jesus name and bless these moms give them grace these single moms father my hats off to them Lord my heart goes out to them give them grace to raise their children no matter why father if their husbands have abandoned them Lord if they're divorced separate whatever the situation father I just prayed that you give them grace let them not live in guilt let them live in grace to raise the children to know you and to walk with you and made a church this church be a community of support to families who are raising children with destiny in Jesus name Amen praise the Lord you've been blessed by the word today thank you so much god is so good
