guys this electric aircraft from Joby Aviation is probably the safest investment in the e-vitol market right now and you need to know why let's give you a quick counter through the company history just to give you a bit of context so 2009 startup company around seven people exploring an r d and things like electric motors flight software Lithium-ion batteries in 2012 they've got a pretty big big break and they were selected to partner up with NASA and work with them on several electric aircraft projects like the x57 leap Tech that sort of thing and then they started to bring the Joby aircraft to life so 2015 subscale demonstrator 2017 full size demonstrator 2019 they hit a pre-production prototype that's at the same time they've got big investment from Toyota and I'll cover a little bit more of the investment in collaborative history in a few minutes and that's when the whole program started to get a little bit supercharged so in 2020 U.S Air Force approval that means they could use the facilities to test it's a big win 2020 also they partner up with Uber for more investment then in 2020 as well they started the certification process which they've now achieved stage two not before 2021 and the company floated on the New York Stock Exchange now from this first page you can see in the history of Yogi Aviation they have had eight funding rounds away and raised 1.7 billion dollars with six main investors 24 sort of subsidiary investors if you like I think it's worth looking at this in 2017 the defense Innovation unit experimentation uh invested with them and it also invested in Kitty Hawk about a million dollars each because they saw some usage for modularized small sort of electric quiet Aviation units so the dod is taking an interest in what Joby Aviation is doing no doubt helped by you know the work they did with NASA rail relationship there I suppose you've then got quite a large investment 100 million dollars from this Intel Capital portfolio now they basically support startups and companies with this particular flavor for future technology so AI uh autonomous robotics silicon Computing that sort of thing and then of course you've got a huge investment from Toyota but not just money this is people expertise infrastructure and you know brand reliability incredibility more than anything else you know there's a brand that's known for the most reliable vehicles on the planet then arguably it's Toyota I mean they sent a bloody truck to the North Pole and back again it drove back as well then you've got a not modest investment from Uber I've already spoken about the collaboration that's going on with Uber there but you know this was a you know put their hands in their pocket and they've really decided to support this evil company over any others and then finally Delta Airlines so now they've got a large uh investment and you know again the people the expertise um the the knowledge in the industry especially when it comes to certification that comes with Delta Airlines well you know that for me that completes that package now finally and rather interestingly that they're obviously got the financial capacity in Headroom do some Acquisitions of this of themselves so avionics the first company they acquired software flying Control Systems that's that's what they were into so this is this acquired that company has consumed their knowledge and expertise and then finally Uber elevates now this is very interesting the Elevate part of uber were designing effectively a um a small vertical takeoff and Landing uh aircraft infrastructure mainly based around the sort of helicopter helicopter landing sites in and around cities and that sort of thing but not exclusively so they were connecting all of that together and building sort of Transport network and infrastructure specifically designed for Ev tolls that is now part of the OB Aviation so really quickly to summarize a small company seven people 2009 it started out of a bomb in the United States quickly got a contract that was selected by NASA to work on two projects they got investment from the usdod they got to use USD infrastructure and they still do that's good for testing they've got a large investment and support from people like uber that's about the transport infrastructure and network and massive investment from Toyota that's about expertise sharing credibility reliability and brand awareness all that sort of stuff there's a whole load of other investors there was about 850 million quiz worth of stuff I didn't even talk about right but those are the main players including Delta Airlines so you've got to think about this as a as a race between the amount of money a company like this has got and how quickly it's going to get to certification you can come up with a fantastic Mega futuristic design that you know will be able to be achieved requires a real Innovative thought processes and some new technologies that you have to design before that can be the case so it's going to take a lot of money but crucially it's going to take a long time to certify because you're developing something that is more removed further removed from a traditional helicopter or a plane so it's going to take more safety protocols and process that could be a company like Lillian I think they've got a great product right but it's going to be difficult for them to get to certification I hope they do but they might not Adobe Aviation has taken a relatively traditional design that they know that they can get to certification quite quickly they've also been Savvy about the investors I know you can't always choose right but they've got decent investors they've got us DOD backing they've got infrastructure that they can test very quickly on and they've got certification expertise now in the company in the form of support from people like Delta Airlines and other people that they've recruited into their company so I think Joby Aviation is winning the funding to certification race that doesn't mean that I think it's the best Aviation evitel platform out there I don't I think they've played it relatively safe I think it's a little bit boring if I'm honest you know I think it's a great airplane of course I do but there's some more there's some other companies out there that are really trying to push the boundaries they may not succeed okay they may not succeed and that might be sad but for me I always I always prefer you know those people in those companies that are gonna you know try and go that one step further because the end product generally is more exciting but if you want to hear more about what I'm actually going to think about the aircraft itself then you've got to like And subscribe a video will be coming soon about all of that
